Considering the out of the way location, having a good fish taco in your hand whilst enjoying a freshly pulled pint of beer is a very appreciated thing to have. They had a truck outside of the brewing layer in Portola. We waited about 15 minutes for our food. It was piping hot. We ordered the fried fish & twisted fried comes with a side of lime cilantro sauce, we added a side of chipotle sauce. The fish was crispy, light & delicious. My wife and I headed over to Sierra City, but before we got there, we needed to find a place to eat and have a drink. Of course, my go to in finding places to stop is Yelp. This place is the definition of why you use Yelp. We saw that it got 5-stars and after having their fish and chips, we can see why. Based on the first picture we saw, we thought it was a building with a restaurant. It was actually a food truck nestled near some trees. Oh, and what a food truck it was. Fish and chips are my typical go to when I try a new place. I can honestly say that their version matches up to any sit down restaurant I've been to. It was excellent. Four pieces of wild caught cod, along with some uniquely shaped thick curl fries with some awesome and different tartar sauce. Add to the phenomenal setting in the woods in Graegal, the service was quick and with a smile. Pricing was reasonable, especially with the large serving size. I think I'll take the 1 hour and change trip from Reno again to try some of their tacos. read more

Located inside the historic Blackbird Inn, this little eatery packs a biggo punch! Also, super safe COVID practices in place. Also, as an aside - I LOVE texting in my order! I totally mis-ordered my husband's plate (sorry honey!) but he was totally happy with it so no issues there. I guess I ordered the fish plate instead of the fish TACOS plate... oops! But we had some tortillas at the cabin and I shared cabbage from my gorgeous salad with him, so all was well. While driving around the area and after a short hike we were starving and looking for a place to grab a quick bite- that time when it's too late for lunch and too early for dinner. Ricochet Cafe showed up in my Yelp search and had excellent reviews. Being a vegetarian myself and kids that are picky when it comes to meat, I really have to pay attention to the menu and was happy to find that they offer vegetarian and vegan options. We drove there and the location wasn't difficult to find at all, we were able to park and order our food. The lady taking our order was very friendly. We were given the option to dine in the side yard. The cafe is part of an inn which is a converted historic general store. There was a picnic style bench and a couple tables. The sun was at a perfect angle in the horizon and we enjoyed a fresh, beautiful meal of vegan tacos, fish tacos, beer from the neighboring The Brewing Lair and ginger beer. We finished off the meal with a lemon bar and a flourless chocolate cake. The lemon bar was hands down the best I have had in my life and I usually don't like lemon bars. [ Tip: Do get the dessert]. Highly recommend this quaint, friendly little cafe with excellent food if you happen to be in the area. It's as local as it gets. read more

They seem to be closed whenever they want to be closed, which is fine, but they don't tell anybody. It makes it hard when you look at the website and it says that they're open and you count on that, and get there and they are closed. Then there are no reservations to be had anywhere else. Furthermore, they won't give you salt if you need it. How stupid is that? Everybody wants their food to taste exactly the same so if you ask for salt, you don't need it, and you cannot have any. The chef knows exactly how much salt everybody would like to have on their food. I watched three car loads of people come in only to discover that the trailer is closed. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our order, and we got: Chipotle Chicken Tacos BBQ Pork Tacos The meat was tasty, but the tortillas were cold. The inside restaurant is not currently open. You order on the front porch and either take it to go or out to their rustic and charming outdoor seating. It's mostly tacos, fish and chips or a couple of salads to choose from. We had ahi tacos - a the sauce is little spicy - and everyone's favorite fish tacos. Both were fantastic. We find ourselves grabbing a beer and food from Ricochet a couple times a month. The fish and fries are my go to. I love the batter on the fish and the fries are pretty good half moon shape starting to curl. I have had the ahi tacos (this last time menu said they were out). I prefer a bit more sauce to cabbage ratio but they were quality ingredients. The service has always been fast and friendly, even when they are slammed as they are the only food truck at the brewery. read more

Cozy place with fun vegan options! Vegan waffle burgers? Don't mind if I do! If you are visiting near Clio or the a Graeagle area, I definitely recommend a stop by this cafe! The portions are good sized and this is really good quality food. Organic ketchup, fancy salad dressings, unique beer options, and fresh produce. This place is dog friendly because the actual food prep is done in a food truck outside. Clever! Live music, very casual and friendly atmosphere, and the service was excellent. We were actually quite surprised how quickly our food was prepared! I enjoyed learning a bit of the history of the small town of Clio reading their plaque (see photo). Nom, nom, nom says the gluten free diner! This is truly a gem that would totally kill in a larger city. The atmosphere is perfect, the food cooked to perfection and the staff very friendly. I had no concern about cross contamination as our server was knowledgeable about celiac disease. My husband's fish taco's were excellent (according to him). But, my cheese sauce covered meat loaf on top of a gluten free waffle was divine. A little spicy , but you're talking about a person who can't eat mild salsa :) I had to order a craft cream soda. Come for the beer, and stay for the tacos! We were very happy to find these folks set up at the Brewing Lair in Blairsden, cos what goes great with beer? Tacos, that's what! We tried the pork tacos and the fish tacos and both were super delish. The pork was juicy and tender, and the toppings and slightly spicy sauce were totally on point. And the fish was crispy and equally delish. We did have one minor quibble, which was that the tortillas seemed to have been pre-toasted, and by the time we got the tacos, they were charred, but cold and a bit leathery. If they had been freshly toasted the taco would have been even more amazing. But even with that, the tacos were super tasty and satisfying. read more

I tried Richochet on the recommendation of my AirB&B host in Graeagle. The atmosphere was cool and casual, and there was plenty of seating at 6p on a Thursday. They had a very good selection of draft beers. Interestingly, the food is prepared by a food truck parked next to the hotel/restaurant. I had the pulled pork tostada salad and a Truckee Brewing Company IPA. The beer was excellent. The salad had amazingly juicy pulled pork, fresh greens, and tasty dressing. The addition of store bought corn chips around the edge of the plate cheapened the dish a bit for me. The tastes were good, though. I impulse-ordered a side of fries for dessert. They took a long time to come out - all good, I wasn't in a hurry - and were perfectly cooked and very tasty. I'd definitely come back to try the tacos or waffles. read more

This is a hidden gem in the Graeagle area. They have great outdoor seating. Didn't have the kids or dog with us BUT will DEFINITELY bring them next time. And the food! Kimchi tacos were excellent. Pulled pork tacos are smoky and just YUM. Fish tacos fried to perfection with a sauce that compliments so well. Portions are generous. Also ordered wine by the bottle and cheesecake for dessert. Even during Covid19 and the limited menu, this is definitely a place to come for food. I always stick with the vegan options and order the Kimchee tacos. They give you two good sized tortillas (freshly grilled) filled with a vegan black bean burger and topped with fresh cut cabbage and spicy kimchee. They drizzle some kind of aioli sauce over the top and it's sooo good. I usually also get a small order of their wavy cut French fries to go with it. I don't know what kind of spices they put on the fries but they're way better than any other fries I've had. Really delicious food, you should give them a try! read more

Ricochet Cafe is amazing and so is the owner. She is Sweet and personable which always makes we want to return even though we live almost two hrs away. We enjoyed a wonderful meal late April outside on the front patio. Menu is short but all with tasty unique flavors (ex: curry sweet potato salad, kimchi tacos with a vegan bean Pattie) that you would usually only find at an upscale restaurant on the coast but much more affordable! And better tasting too!! I got the meatloaf and waffle ( I held the cheese sauce( Sigh!) because I didn't need the extra dairy altho the meatloaf is made with parmesan inside but for me it's worth it, only a mild lactose intolerance. Hubby got the pulled pork and waffle. He's not a GF(GLUTEN free) fan and he still loved it! He was oohing and ahhhing at every bite. He ordered the fire brewed cream soda for fun. Not too sweet but he couldn't finish it all it's alot of sugar in a bottle, lol. Jasmine the owners dog is friendly but noninvasive and makes the whole experience feel like you're warmly welcomed with the best welcome home meal you've ever had. My husband was a huge fan of the curry sweet potato salad he said it captured the feeling of summer, light, somewhat sweet and just right creamy with a bit of spice. What to know: the menu is small, 10 to 12 items, but we haven't found an item yet anything less than exemplary. Every dish is either a taco, salad or served on a waffle. No buns here. Try the tunamelt on a waffle if you want something tangy and hearty. Loved the scallions sprinkled on top. If calories are of no concern try the meatloaf on a waffle. This well-herbed slice of moist meatloaf is served smothered in a white cheese sauce. Decadent. If you're feeling a little less adventurous, the fish tacos are among the best we've ever had. And the taco salad is rich and flavorful though you won't be able to convince yourself it's healthy just 'cus it's a salad. Please try the pulled pork curly fries layered in cheese, bbq and creamy chipotle sauce. These are the thickest cut curly fries I've ever seen.
