After spending one night in Sierraville, we came to Smithneck Farms for a quick bit of breakfast and caffeine fix before heading home. There aren't a ton of options in Sierraville for breakfast and this one is more of a grab and go. There is no indoor seating and only two small tables outside. My husband and I both ordered the breakfast burrito which came with eggs, cheese, sausage, and potatoes. My dad ordered the breakfast sandwich which came on an English muffin and his choice of sausage or bacon. My husband ordered a plain latte while I ordered a vanilla latte with oat milk. There were some breakfast, pastries, and other items, but we did not partake. All in all for a quick bite of breakfast and caffeine fix, it's not bad. If you are looking for more of a sit down breakfast spot, I would recommend the place next-door. read more

Stopped here for breakfast on a drive. The staff were friendly enough. The breakfast item I got was premade and reheated/under a heat lamp. I got the breakfast sandwich, which was an English muffin, egg, sausage, and cheese. I was kind of bummed about that and was hoping it was freshly made food. Wife and I headed up to Sierraville after our first choice in Truckee did not open on Friday morning, for reasons which were concealed from all the eager eaters waiting out front. Oh well. Good thing because Smithneck rocks!! Our biscuits and gravy could have been slightly warmer but were otherwise perfect, with tasty biscuits and meaty sausage gravy. My wife ordered a cinnamon roll (more carbs?!?) and I ended up being very glad she did. Coffee was fresh, hot, very flavorful and powerful! Service was prompt, prices were reasonable. After we finished the B and G's I asked the waitress to heat up the cinnamon roll for us, and it was delivered back cheerfully and promptly. It was excellent. We will be back up this way to camp at Sierra Hot Springs and will definitely return to Smithneck! Highly recommended. read more

Came here on a road trip coming back toward the 80 from Quincy and saw it had good reviews. I was not let down. The breakfast sandwich sitting in the warmer was hot and fresh on a fresh muffin with great chew and flavor. The cheese was slightly sharp and crisply melted and the egg was cooked nicely. Also had a cinnamon bun which was a delight of brown sugar and layered dough and a latte which tasted wonderful. It was very busy and the staff seemed frazzled but not enough to take off a star. Love this place. We go birding in Sierra Valley every spring and plan our day around going to Smithneck Farms for lunch. When with a friend we share a salami sandwich. So yummy! Was so excited to visit Sierraville but this place ruined the visit. We had our poodle leashed at our table at the end of the patio to keep him out of the of the sun and out of the way of other customers. I didn't see a loose, pit bull type dog with no collar or tags go under the table and start fighting with our dog. He was hitting the table legs and the hot coffee was spilling on the patio table. My husband was wearing shorts. Luckily he didn't get burnt. The loose dog stepped on my sandalled foot during the fight and injured my toe. I immediately put our dog in our car. The staff witnessed this and said it was the owners dog and that he was always there, that he was the gentlest dog in the world and would never attack anyone. The woman pointed a finger at my face and said "your dog is aggressive, that is why it's on a leash and you are aggressive because you are from the city." She didn't know anything about me. I asked them if they could refill the spilled coffee and they refused. The dog came back and sat at my feet. Another employee came out with a snide look on her face. I asked if they would put the dog inside and they said no, that they would do nothing for us and stormed away. The breakfast sandwiches we ordered were pre-heated, dry with too spicy sausage and thin strange looking cheese. The coffee was not hot. Most bizarre experience I have ever had at an eatery. I come from three generations of restaurant owners and we were always gracious to guests. If there was any incident we immediately would look to the safety and comfort of the customer. read more

After coming down the windy mountain, we stopped by because my nephew was feeling nausea. We saw a sign of fresh pies and an outside patio, so we stopped. Though my chai was made from a powder mix, my husband's drip coffee was strong and sufficient. And those muffins! Bran, blueberry, almond poppyseed, all made from scratch. The cook, dishwasher and cashier shared the kitchen's square yard of food preparation area amazingly harmoniously. Melissa and I were on a cross country road trip when the sun suddenly decided to commence the setting process and the hour had hit when each of us were in need of an uplifting beverage. After all, we still had much driving to do! It was the 30th of June. We stumbled upon the unsuspecting town of Sierraville along the scenic route CA 89 and saw the sign for a cafe. Smithneck Cafe, in fact. What luck! I feared that it might have already been closed but you see, that was simply not the case. I stepped inside and behind the cash register stood a friendly man in a funny mustache who was full of confidence and merriment. This added to the positive atmosphere in the welcoming, nicely festooned and well maintained cafe. I asked the guy if he could make an iced mocha, and he said "certainly!" Happy about his work, he made one with excellence, and success. I stepped out to fetch Melissa so she came inside and ordered one herself. The drink itself was amazingly good and I was happy for two reasons: 1) I preferred supporting an independent business instead of Starbucks where I always go, and 2) it was BETTER than Starbucks! Making the evening more enjoyable, Dwight asked us where we were coming from and what we were doing. He did not see us just as "a couple customers" but he treated us like people. We started to have a real conversation about where he had come from, traveling, and even music. We sat outside on the front porch to enjoy our drinks and we brought out the pooch, who then interacted with the local dogs and they all got along. Other locals were also spending the evening in front and it seemed like this Dwight was a really popular guy. We all saw the sun set together as Dwight came outside to play us a tune on his guitar. It was a beautiful sunny day, we heard good live music, hung out with cool people and our dog hung out with cool dogs and it all happened in front of this Smithneck Cafe place. We could not ask for a happier way to spend an evening! On our next trip I'll make it a point to come back here. read more

Best latte, and in the heart of supposedly nowhere. Better than even most of the lattes I get in Marin - and I'm picky! The pumpkin muffins we had one morning were top notch, and the next morning we came back and Dwight, the owner, made us up his breakfast potatoes deluxe with sunny side up eggs - yum!! Dwight will even play his guitar, sing and yodel for you, which is even better than the latte, if that's possible. Next time you're through Sierraville, be sure you stop at Smithneck Farms Cafe.
