The food and drinks are great. The bartenders fantastic. The problem is there is no AC in the front where you wait for a table, so on busy nights it's extremely hot inside. The sizzling fajitas need to be toned WAY down, I don't enjoy the smoke of them from across the room. The biggest problem is the smoke rolling out of the kitchen into the bar area. If you are sitting there when this happens, you leave smelling terrible. I can't believe it can be healthy for the patrons to be breathing this. Where is the health department? Anytime we have gone here, the wait to get in is around an hour. When we finally did get seated the food was subpar and did not meet the hype, I personally experienced an upset stomach almost immediately after eating . As with many other places, the food prices were higher now than in some of the other Yelp photos. The service was great. Fast and friendly. The decor was typical of many Mexican restaurants and the restaurant was very clean. My cheese enchilada was lukewarm. The cheese inside wasn't fully melted and it had very little cheese on top. I had asked for extra cheese when I ordered it. I didn't get that but it's okay. The refried beans didn't have any cheese on them. I would have specifically asked for melted cheese on them if I had known this but they were still good. The rice was also flavorful but also not super hot. The steak street tacos were wonderful-but again, no cheese. Maybe street tacos aren't served with cheese. I don't know. Either way, they were great. Free chips and salsa. The chips were served warm, which was great since not all of the food was. The free salsa was spicy to me but still good. Overall, I would give it another chance. read more

First time here, we were in town from Seattle. Didn't know it was a known spot with a story behind it. The food was good. Family told us they get a lot of celebrity athletes in here I guess. Our go to place for the best Mexican food in Denver! We have been patronizing this place for at least 7 years and have never been disappointed. We enjoy the number 10 combination ( crispy rellano, cheese enchilada and smothered bean & beef burrito). It's a lot of food and we usually share or each get our own and have another meal a day or two days later. The chips are homemade and come out warm with a great salsa, (ask for the milder if you aren't into spicy). Ambiance is pretty basic and they have a good selection of beer and delicious variety of margaritas. Our favorite server is Antonio who knows what we need before WE know what we need! We really enjoyed ourselves! I got the steak picada and my husband got the steak fajitas. My plate didn't come out looking cute but SO much flavor and just the right amount of spice. And I love spice. We both got the frozen passionfruit margarita, it was alright. I think I just got the wrong flavor for my liking (even though I LOVE passionfruit), but it was still drank able. The service was just okay. I wasn't impressed with it. Our server seemed all over the place to give us friendly service but we got our food in a timely manner. The only thing is that we got flour tortitas instead of the corn tortillas as requested but not a big deal. This is place gets packed! So make sure you plan for an hour wait time at least. read more

I don't make it down to the 'burbs all that much. However, I've had multiple reasons as of late. Los Dos Potrillos has been on my foodie hit list since moving to Denver. Lo and behold, my taste buds are now fully aware of their major success across the Front Range. The family owned spot is like walking into your grandmother's house, a big one at that. The dining room is massive with booths and long tables. Waiters are dressed nicely, very old school. There's Spanish music playing and artwork on the walls. It honestly reminded me of all the Italian restaurants I used to frequent as a kid, but you know the Mexican version! Chips and salsa are brought out in full force. A slight bite from the salsa with very crispy and salty chips. What's not to love? The menu is gigantic, probably 100 items to choose from. I'm not even joking. Here's the one thing you should know: there will be leftovers. Their portions are ginormous. Factor that into the price! I landed on the Salsa Verde Enchiladas. These were smothered in a green jalapeño sauce, a warm lingering flavor I quite enjoyed. The tortillas has a nice chew to them, while the shredded chicken was moist and fairly tender. Not to be outdone on the plate (more like a platter) were their house rice and beans. You can tell if a Mexican restaurant is legit based on their rice and beans. Yep, Los Dos is LEGIT. For a busy Sunday afternoon, servers were working hard running food, bussing tables and rolling silverware. I really don't have too many complaints, I just need to experience more of it! Here's the deal, Los Dos Portrillos never disappoints! Don't mind the pictures of the half eaten food, it was so good I forgot to take a picture before digging in. Our wait was only about 20mins for a party of 4. The 27 ounce strawberry margarita is delicious and gets the job done (strong)! We started with guacamole for the table and it was tasty and fresh! Then for My meal I had the Barbacoa Quesa tacos! These tacos reminded me a lot like a birria style taco and were so delicious I could eat them every day! Two people from our party shared the Taquiza which was a massive build your own taco deal. Zero complaints about anything! They had a mariachi band playing as well which created a lively atmosphere. The chips and salsa delicious ships were definitely freshly made and they were hot when it arrived at my table. A little pricey but the inside is fabulous What type of pleasure take a date to. The service was excellent Too Notch! It kinda reminded me of the O'l School:"ElTorito's" Restaurant that my parents used to take me to in Marina del Rey California back in the 80's. Worst service ever!!! We came in about a month ago and the server never came around to take our order after the chips and salsa were dropped at the table. Took over an hour to pay for our one drink and chips and salsa. Today, we are here and thought the bar top would provide better service. Tons of staff running here looking busy with the 5 patrons that are currently dining in. It is impossible to get anyone to the bar to get any service. We will NEVER come back to this place again. Very popular Mexican restaurant in the Southern burbs of Denver. They have 3 other locations around the area. I really like their food, my only complaint is their salsa and green chili can be too hot at times. I know heat and spice is a personal preference but they can take it too far at times. Having said that, good authentic Mexican food. My husband got the combo that included Chile rellenos, a crispy taco with beans and rice. I got a beef and bean burrito smothered with Rojo Sauce with a side of rice. We started with the queso dip and it was very good with just a little kick. We live in Colorado Springs and often times make the trek up to Centennial just to eat at Los Dos! We have come at all times of the day/night, both week days and weekends and it is ALWAYS so full of people.... That's when you know the food is good! Big disappointment, you walked in and its the same building as Hacienda but painted white, and same floorplan. I felt like i was at a Mexican Restaurant in Ogalala Nebraska. No character , flavor or ambiance. The Marg came out in a glass that one would get a Marg in if one was in Key West , Florida...just kitschy The skinny Marg was awful and super sour and hurt my throat. The queso Raja was a bunch of grease and couple fajita veggies on it. It was so bright in there, i felt i was at a retirement home and the buffet line was right around the bar. I understand they're busy, but the service was unfriendly and it was difficult to wave down our server. We even received an eye-roll at a request for a milder salsa. The food was greasy, sloppy and way overpriced. The server lied to us that the tortillas were corn; they were clearly a blend with wheat and inedible. All of the meat was tough, grisly and tasteless; the veggies weren't cut up properly or grilled as needed, and the meal is on the expensive side. This chain started out really well with good meals and good value. However, as with all places that are doing well, they eventually start buying cheaper meat because they think they can. I have never complained about food but when I pay 70$ for something that says it's for 4 people and it's not enough to feed 2 it really bothers me especially because I'm at work and went to get food but after spending over 30 min waiting for my order and spending over $100 70 on the food and 30 on drinks while I waited and I had to go and get more food from some where else.
