This review is for their brick and mortar. They also have a truck that is parked at the back side of the parking lot which shares with an ice cream parlor and a locksmith business that operates inside of a shipping container. Look for the 1/4 Giant Burgers signage. The building itself is painted a lively orange with graphics and word advertising painted on the exterior walls. There is a wonderful mural of a food truck on the Rumrill entrance with the images of the Aztec legend Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, and the Virgin Guadalupe. Inside is a simple diner setting with counter seating where you can watch your food being cooked and prepared. There are also a couple of tables with chairs alongside the windows. I ordered a single quesabirria taco, hubby an asada super burrito that came with tortilla chips. Our food was done fairly quickly. Both came with pickled jalapeno and carrots, fresh radish slices, and little cups of hot sauce. My taco was filled with a thick layer of meat and cheese, garnished inside with cilantro and onion. I added the radish and carrots to cut the richness of the meat and nibbled on the jalapeno between bites. Delish! My hubby's burrito was filled with 2/3 meat and the other 1/3 of beans and rice. It was very filling and he ended up taking half of it home. The chips were fine. We sat at the counter, ate and watched as he was heating up a pot of something, presumably for the truck outside. Kitty corner from us, we were treated to a guy spouting off religion in Spanglish to the cars waiting for the light to change. If I'm going to comment, that guy could use a better sound system. It was so scratchy and the speakers were pretty blown out. Las Grullenses definitely deserves a return visit. read more

Whenever I crave some street tacos close by, I come to this truck. Tucked off the the corner with a few parking spots shared with what used to be a burger joint. The line get pretty long when it's lunch time but they're pretty quick for the most part. The prices are reasonable and it's good. The radishes on my taco plate was a little old today and they're not too consistent when it comes to the fixings, e.g. radishes, pickled carrots/jalapeños, and grilled onions. The grilled onion is fire. I prefer when they put grilled serrano chili peppers instead of pickled jalapeños, but that's just my preference. read more

We stopped by after a long hike at Point Pinole and had the most delicious tacos ever. I ordered a lengua and a birria taco, a carnitas burrito, and chicharron nachos. The birria taco was exceptional--a flavor bomb of perfectly stewed and seasoned beef. The lengua was tender and delicious with their spicy red sauce. We also loved the nachos. It's clear that they care about the details and flavor that goes into each dish, down to the charred Serrano pepper and the onion that came with the tacos. My only regret is not noticing that they had quesabirria, which the lovely woman behind me in line ordered. I will definitely be back for more next time. read more

I'm from Southern California so my Mexican food standards are pretty high. I came here on a Friday afternoon, where the place where I was originally going to go to looked too suspicious, so I saw this place instead because it was right in the corner. I heard about the taco trucks in the Bay Area, where people told me they're "hella good and hella authentic" plus the taco trucks here in the Bay are even referenced in rap music, so it must be good right? It definitely is. The food here at this specific taco truck is as good as the Mexican food in SoCal. I was very pleased with the menu, to the drinks, to even the feel that the taco truck had, it was "hella authentic" as the locals would say. The menu offered meats that I would only find in SoCal from the buche (pork stomach) to the cabeza (cheek meat) so I was pretty excited when I was able to come across that. I ordered: One cabeza super burrito $7.50, extra .50 cent charge for cards (it's super because it comes with sour cream and cheese) The burrito was magnificent, from the grilled tortilla which gave it a slight crunch to the dripping, oily meat which got all over my shorts, this burrito is well worth it and a bag of chips; (it came with complimentary chips and salsa). The burrito also came with complimentary grilled veggies (pepper, onion and radishes) so for 7 dollars you get 2 side orders and an entree. What took me by surprise and why I am so "juiced" about this place is the meat. The cabeza was so juicy, greasy, and tender that I needed a towel to clean myself after. I recommend to not get the rice it just got all over the place and it was so unnecessary. (I am usually not used to rice in my burrito.) I found my Mexican food gem here in San Pablo, I has taken me 3 years of living here in the Bay Area to find the next best Mexican food to SoCal.4 stars cause of the rice, I'm sure next time it will be easily 5 stars the time I order it without the rice. read more

So I've been coming to 23rd street for a while..eating tacos de lengua and tacos de carne asada (tacos made of tongue and steak) and the only place where I come on a weekly basis is Los Gruellensos... though the name may be hard to pronounce for some (including me) my Mexican heritage won't let me stop coming to this place..and why should it? Do I need more reason than me and my taco burrito loving Mexican family? (maybe im being a little stereotypical!) but none-the-less we love a good taco truck. To say the least...Mexican food is NOT my favorite (too much beans rice and tortillas weigh me down!) but this taco truck never fails to please! They have some of the most delicious tacos I have ever tasted...and they will fill you up! They are not expensive (1.25 per taco) which is better than most places and they make the food fresh when you order. They are pretty fast and I've never waited more than 10 mins (when ordering for than 10 tacos) plus they have parking. If you go there you MUST try tacos de lengua (cow tongue) they are absolutely delicious they try to cut off all the fat and they grill it so it tastes just like any regular meat except more succulent... Compared to other taco trucks these tacos aren't as greasy (though of course they still got some...what can you expect?! they are taco trucks after all) Though it may not be located in the best of spots (and I seriously mean not the BEST of spots) they are always still busy, rain or shine, due to their extremely affordable and delicious food...Expect to get jalapenos, carrots, radishes etc when you get your food as well...good portion sizes and they'll give you some fresh salsa to go on your tacos, burritos as well. My wife bought burritos from this truck yesterday the burrito was 80% greasy rice 15% beans 5% meat. Not only that they put a whole bunch of salsa when my wife said no salsa. My wife threw up minutes later after eating the burrito. I will not be a returning to that truck. read more

1st time customer..got a $9 super chicken burrito with everything. There was a teaspoon of sour cream @ the other end & not one shred of cheese after opening it up to look inside. A good taco truck in a small part of Richmond that isn't close to many good restaurants. The truck looks like it has been recently renovated. They are most commonly located in the parking lot of food barn, though there have been somedays I have not seen them there. The burritos here are cheap; $5.50 for a regular and $6 for a super, which includes sour cream and cheese. The meat, rice and beans seem to be fresh and of good quality, perhaps not as good as Flor de Jalisco, but a better price. One thing I love about this taco truck is you get every side you could possibly want with your order without having to ask: fresh grilled onion, jalapeño, radishes, 2 kinds of salsa, and chips, something I have never seen at other trucks. In the past this truck has been in the Food Mart parking lot, but sometimes it's a bit further down the street toward the tracks. I parked in a parking lot across the street from a pick-and-pull junk yard to get my Mexican on this time. Part of my ritual for going to Annie's Nursery is to stop by here after wards. Plant selectiong and kooky 'Garden Ladies' really require a healing meal from the taco truck. I've come here with my Mum, alone, friends, etc. and they never disappoint. Usually I get tacos and stay pretty standard, but yesterday I realized the true goodness of their Carne. After years of bad taco trucks in the Mission and around the Bay, plus my digestive system getting older and wiser, I thought most taco truck meat was out of the question- but the melt in your mouth carne here made me go back on my old vows. Plus they are super sweet. Speak Spanish, it will win points. Since I got a burrito, being a greedy gringa that I am, it was especially delectable and full of Delicious Beef. They don't put onions and cilantro in the burrito, either. It was kind of a random burrito, really. But they gave me chips, the big silver log of goodness, AND a big packet of radish and lime + this really good smoky salsa that was perfectly mild but flavorful. And we've found it... THE KING OF ALL TACO TRUCKS! Maybe munching in the sketchy parking lot, fearing for our lives, made it taste SOOO MUCH better, thinking that this could very well be our potential last bite...on earth?! I was HELLA craving for taco truck after i wrote some taco truck reviews yesterday. So the bf and I decided to go on a mission to find the next taco truck in the Richmond/SanPablo area. We picked 3 truck locations (since you don't know for sure if the truck's going to be there, it's not like they have business hours or phone # to call lol), and off we went on our little adventure. With Garmin's help, we didn't get lost in the ghetto (THANK GOODNESS.) And we were lucky enough to spot this taco truck still serving a little past 7:00pm in the evening. We ordered 4 carne asada tacos, 2 al pastor tacos, 1 head taco, and 2 horchata. I wanted to be adventurous so I tried the head taco the first time. Dayam it was delicious.... And so are the other tacos. Perfectly greased on warm soooffft corn tortilla served "street" style. Perfectly seasoned salsa, perfect amount of onion, cilantro, top with a big hot jalapeno, carrots, and raddish. I FOCKING LOVE STREET STYLE TACOS.... Every bite was a piece of heaven. The bf and I didn't say a word after we started munching, all we did was starring at each other from time to time, nodding our heads, and "mmmmmmm." Yup. Carne Asada, Head, and Al Pastor are equally tasty. And the horchata was PERFECT. And what were we thinking to venture off to the ghetto near dark? Scary, yes it was very scary. This one drunk dude kept bothering the Taco chef. There were times when we thought we had to hurry our @sses up to finish up our tacos and get the FXXX out. Worth it still? oh HELL YEAH! The wait for only 4 tacos was unbelievable. I also had my ordering process interrupted by a phone order which was unprofessional in my opinion. The meat was either too dry or too wet. The chicharrones taco was so soggy and dripping it ripped in half when I picked it up. The chicken, however, was the complete opposite as it was so dry. Not wanting to break a $20 bill for another container of salsa for 25 cents, I just didn't finish it. I freakin' LOOOOOOOOOOVE taco trucks, especially this one. OK, si, it's off the beaten path... way, way, way off the beaten path for most, but so worth it... Here's my perfect Saturday... sleep in (hubby takes care of kids), get up, drink tea and read the paper while Thing 1 (the 6-year-old) quietly and happily does his Kindergarten homework as Thing 2 (the 3-year-old) plays in their room, throw some laundry in, take a long shower, pack up Things 1 and 2 in the car and head off to American Soil, then Annie's Annuals to get some new purties for the garden and visit the bunnies. To top it off, stop at Las Grullensas for the world's best carnitas soft tacos. And when I say the best, I am not kidding. The carnitas are perfectly seasoned and crispy, as they should be, on a double corn tortilla with radishes and the hottest jalapeno on the side. Kids get tasty quesadillas or awesome burritos. And the price is RIGHT! Yesterday, got 3 soft tacos, one burrito (that could feed Thing 1, who eats a lot, for a couple of days), and one quesadilla, for $11!!! My brother and I stumbled upon Los Grullensas one afternoon after we tried to get a seat at JK Giant Burgers on the corner. The wait for burgers was 30 minutes so we decided to give the taco truck a try instead. I ordered 1 lengua taco and 1 pastor taco at $1.50 each. My brother ordered a carne asada super burrito. We waited about 5 minutes for our food and I ate my tacos right away in my car. I didn't think I was that hungry, but I DEVOURED those bad boys. The tacos came on a plate with some green salsa and a juicy pepper. Each taco was flavorful and the lengua was super tender. I live in Pinole, but would definitely make the short drive over if I have a craving for some good, authentic Mexican food. read more

I love this taco truck. Grilled onions and jalapenos with every order? And chips? Cheap tortas that are bursting at the seams? Yes, please. This truck resides on the far end of the Food Barn parking lot, which also has tortas that are exactly twice the size of those at the truck. They are also twice the cost, and their chicken doesn't resemble anything like pollo de tinga, which is really the only way to go with a torta de pollo. The staff at Los Grullenses is very kind, very efficient, and clean. If I want to get my grub on while I'm at work, I'm definitely truck-bound. read more

I heard about this taco truck thanks to Eye on the Bay. Delicious burritos, tacos, and more, all within driving distance from my girl's house? Sign me the hell up. I'm a big fan of carne asada, and theirs does not disappoint. A big burrito, a side of chips, and a serving of radishes, onions, and other things, not to mention salsa, all for about $5 and tax. Yummy. Only reason I gave them 4/5 is the hours. Kind of a night-owl, and when I'm up during the day I'm typically either in El Cerrito or San Francisco. They usually stick around til sundown - good in the summer, not so great in the fall and winter. I also tend not to carry much cash on me, so again, I feel like I'm missing out when it's close to nightfall and I have to drive up to Hilltop to get to an ATM. I work in Richmond so I'm in the land of mucho taco trucks. I plan to try each and every one. A co-worker heard good things about this place, so I gave it a shot. It's in an interesting part of San Pablo to say the least. Zero ambiance (unless you're into eating and hanging out in a Food Barn parking lot) but you don't go to taco trucks in Richmond/San Pablo for the ambiance anyway. As far as the food, I ordered two al pastor tacos for the low low price of $1.25 each, served with pickled vegetables and a roasted pepper. The meat was not quite as flavorful as I hoped. I've had better al pastor elsewhere but they were good for the price. I'll go back. read more

There are three separate Los Grullenses trucks that have been reviewed. I decided to write my review on this thread because the truck, while on Market rather than Rumrill, was called Los Grullenses Taco Truck and the one across the street in the mercado parking lot wasn't. Besides, my friend Jana S. reviewed this one. I was heading for Annie's Annuals about a block away and it was getting toward lunchtime. I decided to wander through Annie's before picking up lunch. Good decision. There was a taco truck in Vallejo a mile or so from my office. I went once and felt out of place and uncomfortable because the patrons seemed to be almost exclusively guys. I loved the lengua tacos, though, and so when my buddy Tom stopped by there, as he did periodically, he would bring me two or three tacos. As I drove by the Los Grullenses truck in the parking lot on the way to Annie's there was a woman standing there talking to the person working. I figured I would feel comfortable there. As I was leaving Annie's there was the Los Grullenses Taco Truck parked on the same side of the street. I pulled into the locksmith's parking lot adjacent. An employee helpfully approached me, assuming I was there for the locksmith but smiled when I told him I was there for the taco truck and went back to his shop. I walked over to the truck and a friendly woman greeted me. I told her I wanted two lengua tacos. She asked if I wanted everything on them. She explained that everything meant onions, cilantro and salsa. Yes, please! The cost was $2.50, a bargain for lunch! The window for the truck was so high I couldn't even reach the tip jar, so I handed her a quarter. A few minutes later she handed me a bag and I drove home. It took 10-15 minutes to get home and I think my meal suffered a bit for the wait. The plates had become soft and kind of soggy and the chips which came w/ it had lost some of their crispness. The food tasted wonderful, nevertheless. It just would have tasted better closer to the truck. In addition to the tacos and chips there was a spoonful of refried beans, several slices of radish and some pickled jalapeños. The tacos tasted marvelous, as did the beans, which were good scooped up on the chips. The radish added a nice, crisp freshness. I wish the truck were closer to my house, but I will suffer a little sogginess for the occasional lengua taco treat. I will time my trips to Annie's strategically in the future. read more

Okay, La Grullense is in a somewhat funky part of town, though its just low income, not hostile territory. But I never would have found it if I were coming from Annie's annuals. I agree with Gigi T. - this is the one of the best Taco trucks anywhere in the Bay Area, indeed, one of the best taquerias in the Bay Area. This truck is a hit or miss. Sometimes your order is perfect and sometimes the completely mess up your order. My last visit was a miss, I order two burritos exactly the same. Super burrito steak with no lettuce and extra sour cream and cheese. When we started eating it was mostly rice, the meat was only in the middle and the sour cream was at the bottom. So i paid for extra for both burritos and didn't get what i paid for. This is the second time it happened so might not come back to this place. Unless i have no other place to go. read more
