Chips And Salsa. Spicy salsa.
Bob R.

I have to say we were pleasantly surprised by Los Huaraches. We stopped here on a whim while craving Tacos. This is not a fancy place and it's location, nestled In a small strip mall, can be easily missed. But finding this gem is well worth it. We arrived after 6 PM on a Sunday evening. There are about seven tables and only two were taken. As we watched, they do a lot of take out business. Football (soccer) was playing on the television. And the few people there were with their children. Ordering was hard. It all looked so good. We ended up ordering much more than we could eat so we could sample as much as we could. Chips and Salsa: the salsa (red) was excellent. It was fresh and somewhat spicy. Guacamole: Avocados are expensive right now. It's difficult to know what you're getting when the menu says "market price." You can get a 4 ounce or an 8 ounce order. We opted for the small. They served more chips with it. It was very fresh. There was very little onions or tomatoes. We could see and taste the cilantro. Mostly, it was fresh avocado that tasted great. Tamales: some one told us we had to try these. There was one pork tamale in red sauce, and a chicken tamale in green sauce. We've had a hard finding good tamales in the area. We'll, we found them. Taco and Tostada dinners: we each had one. They come with refried beans and rice. I had one Al pastor taco and a Carne Asada tostada. Kerrie had an Al Pastor taco and an Avocado tostada. They use double corn tortillas for the tacos. The base for the tostada was crisp and flaky. The flakiness was a nice touch. This rounded out our meal, after which we rolled out the door. For the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the ambiance, I give my highest rating and a strong recommendation for anyone who enjoys good Mexican street food to try it out.

Carne asada tacos on the left and right. Flank steak tacos in the middle

This is one of the few Mexican restaurants in Prospect Heights and it does not make my list of good taco restaurants. I ordered carne asada tacos and a flank steak tacos and the tacos were not very filled, flavorful, or juicy. The most difficult taco to eat was the flank steak taco. It was dry and lacked beef flavor. I wouldn't recommend that one. For $3 each, none of the tacos were worth it to me. I want to give them another try, but my first impression of the everything was just not great. Maybe another day in the future...?

The food is amazing. We travel for the huaraches alone, but the enchiladas are great, salsas are beyond good. Take cash to leave a tip, but otherwise worth the trip.

Torta de milanesa

The service was fast! The chips were hot and the sauce they provided as a dip was great! I ordered 1 asada and 1 chorizo taco. The asada was a 10/10 The chorizo a 9/10 in my opinion it was just a little too greasy, but was good! The green sauce was the spiciest in compares to the red. My husband ordered the burrito suizo with mole the mole was sweet. He loved it so much he finished it! The torta de milanesa was a 9/10 The meat was a bit hard to pull apart, but the bread was nice and crispy and warm and it had avocado and had jalapeños on the side for an extra kick!

9.50 lengua burrito

I was not a big fan of this place. I came for lunch and ordered a burrito with lengua. Most places will allow you to substitute their tomatoes and lettuce for rice without a charge, this place decides to charge without even letting you know their going to charge more. The burrito itself wasn't bad but I will most definitely not be returning. To be very honest, I don't think I should ever be paying more at a Mexican place than a burrito from Chipotle. $9.50 is just way to much for a burrito. The waitress was also eating her food in the back but still visible while she can watch the front entrance. And I want to believe it was the owner who just sat behind the counter where the register is just charging the customers. Whenever a customer would walk on, he would just stare at the waitress. Completely unprofessional and that is not how business is supposed to be run.

Pork tostada so good!

Delicious, authentic Mexican food! Very good customer service. I had the pork tostada and chicken tinga taco. Both hit the spot! Highly recommend!

Steak tacos

The food was delicious. Steak tacos were amazing. The staff was very nice! Would definitely come back

I got a sopes here and it was ok. I have had better sopes. This one was a little soggy, not fresh and the flavor profile was a bit bland.

Competent, slightly dry chicken burrito. Nothing to write home about. A little on the small side.

They have one of the best chicken Tamales! It's one of my favorites. I have not found any restaurant that makes it as good and fresh!

Really good food. Plain and simple. I had the quesadilla with al pastor meat, and home made large corn tortilla. Yum....

Cabo had been on my list for a while, so I was excited to finally visit, that's less than two miles…read morefrom home. I stopped in on a Wednesday around 7:15 pm; it was comfortably busy, and parking was easy in the large parking lot. I accidentally entered through the back door that was right by where I parked, but was warmly welcomed by Jimena, who explained it was table service and she would be my server. I chose a standard table and was seated at a cozy two-top facing a beautiful, full-length bar and two TVs. The colorful Mexican décor and warm vibe made it feel like dining among neighbors and friends. I started with a refreshing Jamaica agua fresca brewed from dried hibiscus flowers ($4.50), it's slightly sweet and floral and served in a mason jar. For food, I ordered the Baja Fish Taco ($6) and the Short Rib Taco ($7.50). The fish taco featured crispy beer-battered cod with coleslaw, cilantro, cheese, lime, and chipotle aioli on a cheese-crusted tortilla, it was delicious, but I wish the fish had been a bit thicker. The 24-hour braised short rib taco topped with pickled red onions, cilantro, and avocado was rich and flavorful. The red salsa was a bit watered down with not much flavor, but the taco was flavorful and didn't need it. I was already full but couldn't resist to order the Mexican Key Lime Pie ($8). It was beautifully presented and drew attention from the table of 4 next to me. I enjoyed a couple of bites and took the rest home. It was quite tart but was balanced well by the abundance of whipped cream. Overall, it was a lovely experience. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and satisfying food. I'm happy to have such a solid Mexican spot in the neighborhood and look forward to returning with my family to explore more of the menu.
