I was amazed at the quality of the food. I had a soup that was on special- Sopa Rez, it was filled with delicious vegetables and meat. It was healthy and hearty. It came with handmade tortillas and I had rice and beans as well. Super delicious and authentic food. This is a quintessential hole in the wall restaurant, but the food won't disappoint. It's the best food I've had in Asheville. The service was particularly notable with Marta. She not only greeted us, but was completely fluent in English and Spanish. We ordered takeout from Kickback just before 8:00 PM on a Thursday. Kickback was awesome btw, and I would recommend them over all competing delivery companies. After reading some reviews, and talking to local customers, I was very unsure of this establishment. Honestly, I was prepared to completely dislike everything. I am happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised. My grilled beef burrito was HUGE. Couldn't finish it, so I had lunch leftovers. I ordered the quesadilla with only cheese, but didn't get it that way. I just took out the other fillings and put more cheese in it before popping it in the microwave. The tortillas were super fresh and delicious. The husband had the Pupusa Loco. He had nothing but compliments for it. My son ate the carne asada and said it was good. I am a little concerned as I read somewhere that this establishment's kitchen staff makes food without masks on. I hope that isn't true, but at the slightest possibility that it is, it feels appropriate to warn other potential customers. read more

I fell in love with papusas the first time I tried one and love them here just as much as that first papusa. This place is the quintessential hole in the wall. A handful of seats and a tiny kitchen space where the cooks are working hard to get the tons of orders coming through put. So far I've only tried their papusas but I definitely plan on going back for everything else on the menu. read more

HOT DAMN. That was.....oh man. DAAAMN. What did I just eat?! It was AMAZING. We ordered the Especial Patty (which came with chicken, beef ribs, shrimp, fried plantains, yucca, rice, and beans), the Platano Relleno (Plantain stuffed with beans, cheese and cream), and two Pupusas (one chicken, one jalapeno/cheese). Y'ALL. Where has this place been?! (It's attached to a gas station- so a bit of a hidden gem). Throughout our meal, my husband just kept talking about the chicken; how it was the most tender, fall of the bone chicken he had ever had, in his LIFE. That chicken, I think, is his new BFF. Me? My favorite may have been the Platano Rellenos......whew. WHEW. So. freaking good. AND the beef ribs. even the BEANS were special....like, how is that even possible?? I read about this place in an article with one of my favorite chefs Meherwan Irani of our beloved Asheville restaurant, Chai Pani. The article was about strip mall restaurants and Chef Irani really liked Pupuseria Patty. Being from California, I miss a really excellent hole-in-the-wall, mom and pop restaurant. Enter, Pupuseria Patty. The unassuming location, adjacent to a gas station might be off-putting to some. But to me, a California native, it held promise. Could this place live up to my expectations? So many of the restaurants I knew and loved back home were hole in the walls, but inside, were food treasures beyond compare. The inside of the restaurant is very small. There are maybe 7 tables. You order at the register from a menu that first is Spanish, but is followed by English if you look closely. I like that. English is the minority in this house, right? I ordered 4 pupusas - which kind? I told the friendly woman at the counter, anything, surprise me, I leave it to you. I also ordered the oven roasted chicken. At last a table opened up and I sat down. The pupusas are made fresh to order. You can watch them hand pat and fill them. The pillows of goodness were delivered to my table. Cheese, bean and cheese, some kind of seasoned corn, I have no idea what exactly I ordered - but it was divine. Craveable, warm, soft, delicate, pillows of heavenly goodness. It was the best meal I've had in a long time. I thought, nothing can live up to this now. Then I tried the oven roasted chicken. It was like a comfort food meal. Rice, beans, plantains, a salad, some cheese, tender dark meat chicken in a delicious red sauce. It was really, really good. Two meals, a Mexican Coke, a horchata = $23. I looked outside, at the snow falling and thought, "How is there not a line out the door for this place?" It was busy, but not that busy. I don't think it will last that way. My husband and I were driving down Patton Ave coming back from somewhere and he noticed Pupuseria Patty. We both love pupusas so we knew as soon as we were hungry that we'd have to check it out. We have been there twice since discovering it about a week ago. Of course we get the papusas but we've tried several other dishes now and they have not disappointed us! The restaurant is tiny, I think there are about 5 tables and you can tell is still need some cosmetic upgrades but do not let that detract from the food. It's the star here. The menu is both in Spanish in English. You pay at the front after you are done dining and they do accept credit cards! I highly recommend stopping by if you're out that way. It's in the gas station so you could easily miss it! read more

My wife and I picked up pupusas when we arrived into town. They were so good! Not as greasy as others we've had but still so tasty. The filling was heavy on the cheese and light on the bean. Food so good, I was getting emotional over it. When something is cooked with passion and devotion, you can tell. Papusas are screaming hot, the cheese stretches for inches and inches, and the salsa they give you has way more flavor than it needs to. Perfectly salted. The street corn tamales are the perfect side. Think southern corn pudding but with that classic elote flavor. *chefs kiss* Looking around the dining room, it was clear that this is a place that real people go for real lunch. We have had decent food from here. Decent, not great. I ordered the Christmas Chicken and was charged for it but it was not delivered. DoorDash refunded it. Months later, today, I ordered it again and wouldn't you know it, it's NOT IN THE BAG!!! Take it off your menu if you don't actually have the dish. Also, they put about two bites of Al Pastor on my burrito it's literally an entire burrito of rice and cheese. Hands so down the worst burrito I have ever had in my life. I'm done with this place. Sooooooo good! We stayed 2 days in Asheville and on the way out we stopped here. Best decisions! The ladies in the kitchen really do know how to cook!!! I know that I have high standards of Salvadoran food. My husband is Salvadoran and we live there. But Doña Patty needs a sabbatical in El Salvador to refresh her memory. We ordered yuca frita, two orders of pastelitos and pupusas and with all that we only received a small container of curtido. We would normally eat curtido with all those items. The tomato sauce was less like traditional tomato sauce and just spicy, watery sauce. The pastelitos were fried in old oil. Patty's is one of Asheville's best hidden gems. It's easy to miss as it shares a space with a relatively nondescript gas station on Patton Ave. It boasts a large menu of El Salvadoran food which if you haven't tried it, is fairly different from it's Latin cousins and absolutely worth eating. Portions are gigantic and reasonably priced. I'd recommend it's namesake, the pupusa, first and foremost but everything I've gotten has been good. Dust off your Spanish and go order a mess of food. A hidden gem tucked away beside a gas station, this restaurant brings latin america to west asheville. Owned by a family, they are welcoming and helpful when it comes to picking from the somewhat unfamiliar menu. Easily one of my new favorite restaurants. I was excited to try this new place and love authentic Mexican and South America food. On first glance, the food looked great. Then, I got the overwhelming smell of ketchup. I got a chicken dish with cabbage and "tomato" sauce...it was also supposed to have red onion. The chicken was supposed to be roasted (more fried).I absolutely hate ketchup.
