This is one of the many typical small neighborhood Mexcan restaurants that are all over Houston. I stopped by for dinner this past week. Parking is limited in the small lot out front. Walking in I had to wait a few minutes to be seated not because they were full but because the waitresses were busy and kind of ignored me. Finally after being seated I ordered the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. The waitress spoke little English but we got through it. The chips and salsa arrived and I thought they were ok (3). The chips were warm. About 10 minutes later the entree arrived. I noticed that the chicken was cut up already like I have seen at a few other places. I graded this meal at a 3. The charro beans were a little better 3.5. The waitress came by and knew that I was finished as I asked for my check. She went back to clearing tables. No one made any attempt to get me my bill. I waited and waited and waited. It's as if I wasn't there. Then I went to the register and stood there for 5 more minutes. This was getting frustrating and I felt like leaving without paying. Finally, after asking for help they presented my bill and I paid and left. I did leave a tip but they didn't deserve it. I believe very little English is spoken here. Obviously, I won't be returning. Come here maybe once every other month and never have felt welcomed. Came here today & walked right past all 3 ladies behind the counter & went to the register. Nobody acknowledged me until the (most likely) owner had to tell them to take my order. 2 minutes later a Hispanic woman came thru the door & as soon as it opened they spoke to her in Spanish & went to get her order. coworker picked us breakfast from there ine morning for a team meeting and we were all disappointed with our food. chilaquiles were not chilaquiles and they were bad and dry. my "tostadas" were beans slapped on a soggy tostada, a mountain of lettuce and reheated dry shredded chicken, NOTHING ELSE. not ever salsa. and another two people got enchiladas and they mentioned they were bad. Stop in for Sunday morning breakfast. This is a nice mom and pop establishment that serves good food at reasonable prices. The only negative thing I've ever said about this place has nothing to do with the food or service. Parking is a bit challenging when coming to dine here. The parking lot is small and they're next to a "gaming" room that usually monitors the parking lot to make sure people aren't parking in their spots to go to the restaurant. Other than that, we've never had a problem with our food or service. I always order the bowl of menudo and my wife orders her huevos a la mexicana. I have been going to this restaurant for the past 25 years, a little old place but had the best food here lately I have stopped going. The food has changed drastically the manudo is to light the color is almost clear the barbacoa and chorizo tasts as if they got pots and pans the flavor is not all there. read more

Love Jacales, been coming for years. The rice and beans are always good and their enchiladas are great! The tacos are good as well. I wouldn't recommend the tortas as they fall short on that. The breakfast was ok but I thought it was strange how they serve fries instead of papas. This is always the place to go to at night too. Overall good and will continue to go. read more

The food here is not all that. The staff and owner are very standoffish, no smiles or greetings from any one. They keep a bin of chips with no lid on it on top of the chip oven. I saw a worker throw some chips in with her bare hands without washing her hands before doing it and she put the bin back on top without putting a lid on it. I grew up in Denver harbor eating jacales and the previous owners were much nicer , food was better too . And I have never ever been charged a to go charge from any other establishment for food that I picked up smh. There are much better nicer restaurants. read more

Sad I have to leave negative review. Was shopping in this area and the neighboring store I was in did not have a restroom. I stopped here to ask to use. There were no signs of no public restroom. Was told "customers only". Am trying to imagine being so stingy that would not let someone use restroom. There were only 1 or 2 people there. Would have been interested in leaving a good review or getting food here as well, but not anymore if you can't even have basic decency in helping others. Sad case. read more

They claim to have a burrito on their menu. So disappointed. Their "burrito" is an 8 inch "flour" tortilla with meat. That's it. No beans, no rice. Just a large taco with lettuce and guacamole on the side. I gave them 3 stars since I feel like because of the price point of 2.75 I can't complain too much. Great unique red tortillia cheese enchiladas. The salsa is a hot sauce with the right amount of spice, unique to itself. The beans and rice is your standard fare, and the tea is fresh tasting in a large glass. The service is friendly and a little slow at times, but the place is generally busy. From their infamous salsa to their incredible caldo. Their fajitas to their tacos and enchiladas... Even their cheeseburgers. I can go on and on, but now with their homeade flour tortillas-WOW!! First I must say, I had been a patron for 20 + years....I absolutely love the salsa it is like no other. However, I cannot go there again. About 3 years ago I went for lunch and had the crispy chicken tacos. They were my favorite. Well I offered my significant other one of my tacos and he accepted... He takes one bite, he suddenly spits and I literally see his face turn as white as a ghost and his eyes were huge. ... IT WAS A WORM! He saw a worm fall from the taco. Oh we were so disgusted. We then tell our waitress and she calls one of the managers... You know I wasn't expecting for her to fall to her knees and beg for forgiveness, but I didn't expect her to shrug her shoulders and look at me like "So what" either. That infuriated me! So we get up and she looks at us like ok so now what? We proceed to walk out, and she says "are you not going to pay?" SERIOUSLY? She then waved her hand as if to "shoo" us off.
