Los Jaliscienses is legit Mexican food and you get the full experience with the occasional mariachi band on the weekends. Their al pastor tacos are out of this world. Pair that with their green salsa and it's amazing. I also like their asada tacos too but I believe the al pastor is their specialty. Everything else on the menu is pretty good too but I come here mainly for the tacos. Yes they have chips and salsa and yes you can get horchata (which is really good btw) but this isn't your typical boring Tex Mex place. I've passed by this place many times over the last 6 months and finally ordered from the through DD. I got the Jalisco Special that came with a choice of meat, rice, beans, and nopales. I opted for the carne asada which was a thinly cut skirt steak but extremely flavorful and well seasoned. There was enough grill char too. The rice and beans were delicious and the nopales was tasty. The salsas were great both green and red - could be spicier. The tortillas were pretty standard but the seasonings were in point so they were just a vessel to get the food in my mouth. I would say they rank equally with other restaurants that serve these type of plates maybe a little more beef would've been great but still 4 stars. read more

The food has really gone downhill over the last 2 years and I don't think this restaurant is long for this world. The enchiladas were obviously assembled and microwaved on-the-fly as it had that tough, chewy consistency the happens when you over-microwave something and it bubbles and solidifies. You could barely cut through these enchiladas with a knife... you had to drag/pull the knife across to pull them apart. My kid got the child's plate which was one small street taco sized taco and small amount of rice and beans for $9.99. They only gave me 1/3 of my order and it was over $70 for two plates and I didn't get any sides. It was just the entrée I didn't get no rise. My husband and I stopped in here for breakfast on our way out of Austin, and it was a pleasant surprise. A coffee, chilaquiles plate and one other plate (forgot the name) cost only $10. People are right when they say how cheap it is here! I had the chilaquiles and wow, that was tasty. I had the green salsa, which was tomatillo. There was delicious melted cheese, and some beans which appeared runny, but were actually great to dip the potatoes in, although they were a little skimpy on the potatoes. The coffee had a nice light flavor (not bitter), and my husband's plate of scrambled eggs mixed with jalapenos, onions, bacon on the side, and fresh corn tortillas, was yummy as well. I loved the three little salsa they brought out, especially the spicy, creamy green one...yum! Service was great, and they spoke perfect English. My girlfriend and I came in here for lunch, ordered two enchilada plates with waters and our lunch was almost $40...for a few enchiladas with a side of rice and beans...seriously!? Nothing on their menu was reasonably priced. Everything was overpriced for even the most basic Mexican plates. The refied beans were also watered down and gross. I'm Mexican ethnicity and have never seen soupy refied beans like this. The beans has no substance and no texture which also contributes to the complaints about the price. They get two stars because the service was good and the enchiladas themselves were ok, but this price point for a hole-in-the-wall taqueria means I'll be looking for better options in the future and probably won't be coming back. read more

Still in search of finding some really good mexican food in Austin. The enchiladas with beef fajita meat were pretty good! Was not a fan of their tortilla soup at all though. It was 95% chicken and soggy tortilla chips and 5% broth. Never have seen it like that. My friend had the menudo and said it also wasn't very good. Just wow. As traditional as you can get , it's a restaurant with more than 17 years of service. The mini tacos are the real deal, the carne asada is sooo good! I'm not gonna lie, this place is off on the side of the road next to a motel looking area, so I was a little apprehensive. Even after looking at a swimming pool near it with murky green water that hadn't been cleaned for years, we decided to check out this restaurant to try and get some authentic Mexican food. Man, was I glad we did. The store itself is super clean and cute, with a nice Mexican flair to it. After we sat down we were given chips with three different dipping sauces (all of them were absolutely delicious). We ended up ordering the super burrito and the burrito special. My mouth almost couldn't handle the awesomeness of this food. The super burrito was about the size of a small baby and was packed full of rice cheese chickens and lord know what other delicious spices. The chicken in both burritos was perfectly seasoned and incredibly juicy. The burrito special had a gravy that came on top and was also smothered with bright orange cheddar cheese. I couldn't have asked for a better sauce! This place is awesome. It's completely authentic Mexican food that is out of this world. Also, if you're lucky like us, you may get to see a live Mariachi band perform as well. Please check this place out. It's so worth it. While apartment hunting in Austin, my friend and I were staying at the Rodeway Inn & Suites hotel that is next door to Los Jaliscienses. Apparently the hotel and the restaurant had a partnership because there was a menu available in our room. So after driving around the city all day, we've decided to check out the restaurant since we were too tired to search for anywhere else to eat. We didn't expect too much from this restaurant, since we were the only ones parked in their parking lot. However, after we tried their food, we were very satisfied! First let me describe the atmosphere. The restaurant was very roomy. Maybe it felt that way since we were the only ones eating there at the time. It was also really quiet. There was no music playing in the background at all. The only ambiance in the place was the two women making your order. I'm not saying this is bad or anything, it was just a little awkward. The service was friendly. They were very straight to the point. They took your order and got right to it, which was all we wanted really. I decided to try the Carne Asada. The picture in the menu made it look delicious. Also, I was craving a steak in my belly. When we were finally served our food, everything tasted great! From the appetizers to the meal. My steak was charred just right and the inside was juicy. The onions, peppers, beans, tomatoes, and chopped avocados complimented each other nicely. For a meal that was around $10, they definitely offered more than enough food to fill you up. I'm sure there are other Mexican restaurants in Austin that is just as good or better. However, if you're staying at the Rodeway Inn, Los Jaliscienses is definitely worth a visit while you're there. read more

I would almost go as far as to say eating Mexican food is the sole reason for my existence... and this is seriously some of the very best Mexican food I've had in my whole life. The beans and rice were so F***ING good. I ordered the fajitas mixtas, and I don't think I've ever had a larger serving of food. I seriously would have taken a picture, but I was way too excited. Also, there are a ton of people in here, and they're all singing karaoke (in Spanish). It's a super fun atmostphere, and clearly everyone is having a great time! I'm so glad we decided to give this place a shot, every plate that passed by our table looked amazing. If ever in this area of Austin again, I will definitely be back. Ok. So our family had 4 meals that consisted of the #6 enchiladas and 3 huevos ranchero plates. The food for the price was not what I would consider justified. $12.49 for the enchiladas and $7.49 for the huevos rancheros. As we ate everything, we had complaints as we progressed through the towards the end of our meals. Our waitress wasn't knowledgeable of what kind of ham we were being served neither. Later we found out it was sliced sandwich ham. What a rip-off. The restaurant was clean but my assumption for the cleanliness was due to COVID-19. I have a head cold or major allergies and am in desperate need of a very spicy soup loaded with garlic to open up my sinuses. I am not up for shopping for all the raw fix ins and cooking. So, I am sitting here day dreaming about my second favorite Chicken Tortilla Soup outside my kitchen and Taqueria Los Jaliscienses wins hands down. I sooo wish they delivered. If I were feeling better I would get in the car and drive here as fast as I could. It was originally a Chinese restaurant which explains the Lotus Flower shaped building - my friends and I refer to it as the "funny shaped taqueria" when we can't remember the name. The first time I ate Mex food in this location it was El Rancho Grande and it did not taste as good as the current incarnation.. The Mexican Seafood here is very good. I also recommend the Tostada De Fajhita. And I must add the Super Burrito can feed 2 teenage boys or a family of 4... I have eaten here about 15 times and the food is consistently good... May I have your attention please? Can you say "Mexican breakfast for $2.50"? Can you say, "GOOD Mexcian breakfast for $2.50"? Migas, huevos mexicanas, etc. along with grilled potatoes, refried beans that rival Las Manitas', bacon or ham, and tortillas. For $2.50 if you get there before 11 am. I almost hate to share this secret. But damn. It's good. Get your lazy butts out of bed and eat a Mexican breakfast for $2.50 once in a while. You'll be glad you did. Please note that much of the staff does not speak a lot of English, as the clientele is heavily Latino. If you try out your Spanish on them, or are polite enough to ask what the proper term is, they will treat you well. Show respect and ye shall be rewarded. (In general, when visiting any genuinely ethnic restaurant, it's wise to keep in mind that they, not you, are the boss, and that they will be serving you a meal, so it's in your best interest to be polite and to communicate in a language they understand to the best of your ability.) This place should win an award for VALUE. Seriously, they serve huge portions at awesome prices. That wouldn't mean much if the food weren't tasty, but it's consistently pretty good. Love the fresh red salsa. The roasted/smoky one is pretty good too, and I'm not usually a fan of the roasted salsa taste. The green salsa is different and delicious, but their traditional red is my first love. I've had burritos and chimichangas, and next I'm definitely going to try the tortilla soup and something a little more traditional... a seafood dish, probably.. they also have mole that I'd like to try. I'll write an update once I give a few things on their menu a try. Service is good and the people are nice, even in spite of language barriers. :) And they have huge water glasses! EVER. love love love this place. honest to god, they have the best green sauce in town. we actually bought a gallon of the stuff for our wedding (which confused the servers greatly when we get asking for "mas para llevar," but that's another story). anyway, this is your typical dive mexican food place. fairly inexpensive, killer breakfast tacos, and the aforementioned salsa. the nachos are disappointing (just chips with queso on them, not melted cheese), and the enchiladas are just ok. but everything else on the menu kicks some major butt. and this location in particular rocks the free world. the service is spot on. i feel like i'm eating at fancy restaurant. well, not fine dining or anything, but the waitresses are friendly, always smile, and are on top of their game. that's a rare commodity at some of the dive mexican food places. and more importantly, this location has the best bacon you will ever have. i kid you not. the bacon egg and cheese tacos (with some green sauce) are the best breakfast tacos on the planet. seriously. gigantic chunks of bacon like god herself crumbled up the pig. i'm usually the only white person in the place, and not all of the servers speak english, so if that sort of thing freaks you out, then, well, i'd tell you to avoid the restaurant, but maybe you should just consider moving to nebraska. and honest to god, the green salsa is like crack. god speed. read more
