EVER. love love love this place. honest to god, they have the best green sauce in town. we actually bought a gallon of the stuff for our wedding (which confused the servers greatly when we get asking for "mas para llevar," but that's another story). anyway, this is your typical dive mexican food place. fairly inexpensive, killer breakfast tacos, and the aforementioned salsa. the nachos are disappointing (just chips with queso on them, not melted cheese), and the enchiladas are just ok. but everything else on the menu kicks some major butt. and this location in particular rocks the free world. the service is spot on. i feel like i'm eating at fancy restaurant. well, not fine dining or anything, but the waitresses are friendly, always smile, and are on top of their game. that's a rare commodity at some of the dive mexican food places. and more importantly, this location has the best bacon you will ever have. i kid you not. the bacon egg and cheese tacos (with some green sauce) are the best breakfast tacos on the planet. seriously. gigantic chunks of bacon like god herself crumbled up the pig. i'm usually the only white person in the place, and not all of the servers speak english, so if that sort of thing freaks you out, then, well, i'd tell you to avoid the restaurant, but maybe you should just consider moving to nebraska. and honest to god, the green salsa is like crack. god speed. read more

My God is all I have to say...I finally feel fulfilled! I'm not being dramatic the super chicken burrito was damn good. Every bite was pure unadulterated heaven. Sooooo authentic just like my favorite place in California! I FINALLY found a place that wasn't Tex Mex. The chicken was seasoned to absolute perfection and it was SO tender!!!! Oh heck freaking YES! Had their Tuesday special which was a marinated chicken breast, eve, beans and corn tortillas. I tore into it not because I was hungry but because it was delicious af! Typically the rice at places is bland. Not here! Sooo good! The rice was the first to go followed by the beans. Those beans were spot on. The chicken breast was lean, flavorful and tender! Not something I get at all Mexican cuisine spots. Seems like they make their own tortillas and boy were they warm and delicious! I went here for lunch and ordered and obscene quantity of breakfast food. I got the migas plate with carne asada which was more than enough for a meal and completely delicious. Foolishly, having not seen the size of the breakfast plate, I also got a chorizo/egg/cheese taco which was completely unnecessary for two reasons: in addition to being more food than I needed, it wasn't that great. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't get it again. We also got chips and queso which, while good for a Mexican (as opposed to tex-mex) restaurant, is also totally skippable. The big con is that, despite the very reasonable menu prices, the numbers the cashier typed into the registered made absolutely no sense. My friend just ordered migas with meat which was supposed to be $9.99 but his total was somehow $13. I got that plus a taco and my total was $15 and change. My other friend got migas without meat ($6.50) and queso and paid $15 and change. Maybe we were paying the gringo tax? read more

This was my first time trying Los Jaliscienses. This is a great place for lunch and the food is very fresh. I really enjoyed it...chips, salsa, everything! a.k.a. "Funny shape tacos" for the shape of the building, not the shape of the tacos. Excellent, generous portions. I love the salsas, the tacos al pastor, the shrimp parillada, and the pollo empanizada. I'm not a lifelong Texan so I don't have much to compare it to, but I will say that judging from the busy lunch clientele it is probably just the way they do things in Jalisco, when they do it right. Cold beer, hot salsa, central location, cheap good eats. Open pretty erarly and pretty late. I can't imagine a better down-to-earth little Mexican dive, and the lotus shaped building (a leftover from when it was a Chinese restaurant, I am told) is a hoot. Usually my table is the only gringos there. These guys need to be better discovered. read more

Looking at it from outside I had mixed reactions since it looked fancy from outside but also was attached to a motel and swimming pool of that motel. i had read pretty good reviews of this place so went inside anyways. The inside is not that great either, just a regular not so fancy place. You can pick any empty spot and sit unlike other places where they come and seat you. Service was pretty fast. And as they say, don't judge a book by its cover, you can say that for this restaurant. The food was amazing. I guess the one that I ordered was Pechunga...something. Basically Chicken breast covered in their specialty Chipotle sauce and with beans, avacado and salad. The Sauce is very hot and if you are not used to hot stuff, then be careful while trying this. I am used to eating level 4 and 5 of 5 hotness and hence I didn't mind this. The taste was amazing in spite of the hotness unlike many restaurants who just add the spicy hotness for the sake of it. I had also ordered the Cocktail Shrimp which I feel was not great as I have had better ones before and hence my rating of 4. If you are around, I would definitely suggest you to try this again. they had a karaoke going on on Sunday evening so if you want to hear the spanish songs and sing them, this is the place too. read more

My coworker gave Los Jalisciences as an example when trying to prove that restaurants in Austin can be as cheap as the ones in Houston. This Thursday evening, eight tables were occupied. The majority of the patrons looked Mexican so I'll add this restaurant to my list of probably-authentic Mexican restaurants in Austin. The interior was pretty big; maximum occupancy among the 22 tables of 4 chairs would be roughly 88 people. The parking lot was very puny, though. I'd guess there were maybe 13 or so parking spaces, mostly alloted along a narrow driveway between the restaurant and the Hwy 290 feeder road. That is why one star was deducted. The menu was extensive--about six pages of small lettering with some colorful photos on the sides. My coworker said this restaurant was cheap; at first glance, the menu prices seemed average for Austin restaurants but the huge portions they serve you can easily be two or three meals. They have a weekday lunch special for $5.49 running from 11 am to 3 pm, I believe. The waitresses are very kind. The architecture of the restaurant building is sort of bizarre and the interior is sparsely-decorated. This restaurant was easy to find. It's on the south side of 290 a little east of the I35 intersection, sandwiched between the Hwy 290 feeder road and an Econolodge. read more

Not bad, inexpensive, and you can get breakfast all day long. The sodas are from a can only, no refills. There are Mexican beers available. I got a breakfast burrito and it was humongous! It had eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese and of course I put salsa on it and it was really yummy and filling. I also ordered some refried beans which I wasn't really a fan of. They were pretty tasteless and runny. The chips and salsa was pretty good, and they actually had some kick to it, which was nice. To pay, you must go to the counter. A check will not be dropped off for you. We waited a long time before we went up there and figured it out. If you're staying at the attached hotel, sure, give it a try if you've been on the road all day or need a quick breakfast, but don't seek this place out. But that's just my opinion on that, the place was a full house at around 5:00PM and everyone looked pretty happy so who knows, you may love it. read more

Stopped here last night (kinda late) for some tacos. I'm already a fan of the Los Jaliscienses restaurants in general because they have good food for a decent price and awesome green sauce (not salsa verde ... or well maybe it's their version). Having just come from another location where I didn't feel as welcomed or as comfortable, I walked in to this funky-shaped structure to a blast of karaoke en Español. Thought it was a bit loud and obnoxious, I had to laugh for the exact same reason. The staff was also very nice and helpful, answered a couple questions I had and got the order in straight away. While the food took a bit longer than I would have liked, I want to believe the reason was that it's all hand made when you order - whether that's the case or it was just slow I'm not sure. So I came away with 3 tacos, 2 sopes, and 2 aguas frescas for about $18. It seemed like a decent deal at the time (mind you it was late) but maybe a bit pricier per taco/sope than I would have liked. But the food was good and my stomach was happy. I think sopes might be my new favorite above tacos! Oh also note that the parking is very limited at this location. You might be able to park at the hotel lot too but unsure. I always get a table as soon as I walk in, the food comes out fast, is hot and delicious, and they have that special green sauce few places have! I usually get enchiladas, but had the chicken fajita taco salad this time as I wanted something a little lighter since I had a several hour meeting immediately after lunch. It was great, just like all the other times. They have 3 different salsas they serve in little containers, but will bring you as much as you want if you're a salsa disposal like myself. I simply cannot get enough of that green sauce. Tip: you pay at the counter and it tends to get pretty busy during lunch, so if you want to save time, paying with cash is often easiest - especially if you're with a party and need split checks. read more

It just felt right when I walk in. Nice, comfortable atmosphere and the waitress was attentive. I had a regular size bowl of menudo and two barbacoa tacos. The tacos were good, definitely not disappointed, but the menudo was the star of the show. I'm a big fan of menudo, and I've been trying out Mexican restaurants all around town to find my favorite bowl, and this place just took the top spot for now. Until I find better, I can say this place has the BEST migas in town. It's crazy though, it's served with awesome beans, but then with a hash brown turd thing. I was kind of freaked out by that, like, wtf, but it completely blew me away. The textures work mind-blowing-ly well on this plate. The refried beans, the crunchy hash brown thing, and the migas themselves...holy jesus. I seriously had to tell one of my best friends to shut up, as I was in the middle of a tender moment with my bite. The migas are made from actual corn tortillas (this is distinct from most places that use tortilla chips, which turn soggy), and the cheese is delicious and heart-stopping. The tortillas are handmade, which makes a huge difference. They are a little thinner than I like, but still many times better than your usual restaurant tortilla. The chips are also made there, and the salsas are very good. The first time I ate here, I missed trying the salsas because I was scared to alter the taste of the migas plate any more than necessary. The second time I wised up and just threw it all in. So delicious. The staff can be a little cold, but that is forgiven quickly. I am indebted to this place. I would write love notes to this place. I have a feeling the cook who made the decisions around that plate has no idea of the culinary genius in his or her head. I have heard much on the menu is also sing-out-loud good, but I can't stop ordering the migas plate yet. And they serve breakfast all day (after 11, it is a bit more expensive)! read more

*Spoiler Alert: The staff barely speaks English here and most of the patrons are Spanish-speaking. The only reason I attempted to come here was because the motel I was staying at says they have a deal with the restaurant for $3 breakfast. The normal breakfast price in the morning is $4.50, so you are essentially saving $1.50 per entree. Well, I showed up around 10:55 although the clock they had on the wall was three minutes fast. We asked the waitress what the price would be, and she quoted the price after 11am. I inquired about the deal with the motel, and she had no idea. She attempted to ask her more "senior" coworker, and even that person did not know what was going on. They also were seaming to be too strict about the time limit for the breakfast deal, so I just left. As a side note: the parking here is confusing and the building interior is a small hole in the wall, if you like that sort of feel. Maybe the food is okay, but the establishment does not deliver on its promises. Will not be back again. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is fantastic, it's brilliant authentic Tex-Mex, and the prices are great (you can get a burrito that will absolutely fill you up for $5 or $6). The staff has always been very friendly, and the service is impressively fast. I am always caught off guard when my food comes out at the time that it does! I love the unique design of the building and the way they decorate the interior. And just to put the cherry on top, it's not an infrequent occurrence to walk in on a mariachi band performing in the restaurant. Sounds great and adds to the experience! read more

Came here tonight based on other reviewers experiences, and my husband and I both had the nachos supreme and Cokes. The nachos were just want we wanted, smothered in queso, meat, beans. The only reason I'm leaving one star though is because our meal, which should have totaled $25, ended up being $39. I tried to ask the man who rang it up about the price and all he said was that it was right. The music was blaring and my husband didn't want to make a scene, so we left, but I'm very upset that two plates of nachos and two sodas cost what we would pay at a much nicer restaurant. My first time here. I'll rate the items individually. The Nachos Supreme were outstanding, the best nachos I've had in years. Nachos = 4.5 My wife had the enchilada trio plate with a taco. The taco was average = 3. The refried bens were so watered down they were a pale pale brown. They were nasty = 1. The cheese enchilada was not edible. My wife spit it into her napkin = 1. We love this restaurant because we love Mexican food point-blank. They had a dope breakfast omelette, though it was a little on the greasy side but we were on vacation so it was all good. you have to try it once and we also ordered the Campeche Plancha(Shrimp and grilled vegetables with rice) The shrimps were gigantic and seasoned very well. The only 2 things Ive had from here were their chicken fajita nachos, which were AMAZING, and their chicken tortilla soup. I could go on and on about how wonderful and plentiful their soup is BUT Im torn because it isnt consistent on the type of chicken used IN the soup. I LOVE shredded chicken, and the first 2 times Id gone, it was. But, the last 2 times I went, it was chunky chicken, and that turns me OFF for soup. We found ourselves driving back from downtown Austin in search of food on Christmas Day. 24 Diner has a 2 hour wait so we were headed to Waffle House when I spotted a Mexican restaurant with an open sign. I wish I hadn't. We ordered the most basic of dishes - cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. When it came out, there were blocks of unmelted cheese. The red sauce looked and tasted like watered down canned sauce. If they just used the spicy salsa given with the chips as the red sauce, they would have been golden. So I poured the red salsa on top of the rice and beans and ate tortillas with it and called it a loss. At $12 per plate, why would anyone choose to eat here on any given day? So many great Mexican restaurants in Austin to be wasting money here. read more

Do not come here if you are going in a group at night and wish to visit with your friends because the karaoke will be too loud for any of that. However, the food taste great and they have affordable daily specials for $6.99 (if I remember correctly) which is great seeing as their enchilada plate is over $10 normally. A little pricey for me if you aren't taking advantage of their specials. My boyfriend loves the salsa that comes with the chips. ( I'm a wimp and both were too spicy for me to enjoy :( ) I'm only giving three stars because each night I came here (once on Tuesday, then on a Friday) the karaoke was waaaaay too loud for the small building and because both nights my table never got drink refills. But the food is great and the location is very convenient to where I live which will keep my business!! read more

We ordered beef tacos and cheese enchiladas. The beef tacos arrived unassembled with the exception that the meat was within the shells. I had to load up the shells with lettuce tomato and cheese myself. I was unimpressed that they used cheddar which is not a traditional Mexican cheese that you would expect in this type of establishment. The shells appeared to have been previously cooked at an earlier time. The meat did have some flavor. Perhaps tacos are not a strong point here. Shockingly the cheese enchiladas also had that dreaded cheddar on top and on the inside, yuck. It clashes with the red sauce. Is using lots of cheddar in traditional mexican food what they mean by keeping Austin weird? Who knows, I suggest you skip the cheddar. Apparently they have white cheese......ask for it. I'm giving 2 stars because I'm hoping some of the other dishes are better. In the mean time let's hope they can put a little effort into making semi normal tacos and enchiladas after all this place is supposed to be mexican. P.S.
