So pay attention to your change. So tonight I went through the drive thru and my total at the ordering box was 39.04 so I pulled out 39.05 and gave that to her at the window. Then she gives me a handful of change so I knew something was off so I check my receipt and they do a chash discount so my actually total was 37.66 so my change should have been 1.74 so basically she gave me .74 cents and shorted me a dollar and yes I know it's only a dollar but if she is shorting every single customer who pays cash 1$ and pockets. It at the end of the night she is walking out with a pretty penny after work. I work in the service industry and I'm privy to that shit that is how people steal. This was my second time coming here and i'm never coming back again. The first time i ordered a torta and it was pretty bland and tasteless. i decided to give the place another chance after a night out with my roommates. The line is kinda long which isn't a issue for me because i get it it's 2:00 am on a friday night and everyone got munchies or wants comfort food. I tried to place two orders but who ever on the mic was really rude about it. Los Jilbertos is as close as you're going to get to an LA style taco shop burrito in GJ. I eat here or do takeout about once a week. I usually get the chile verde burrito with extra cheese inside (al dentro por favor!) or fish tacos. My informal yet highly scientific survey of two real Mexicans found that 100% (both) consider Los Jilbertos the best restaurant in town. Coming in a close second is the roach coach near the workforce center (that was my Mexican friends' assessment, not mine, I've never eaten there). The Super Nachos and Super Fries are really good and huge, and the tortas are excellent. The salsas are spot on. The pico de gallo always tastes fresh and the red and green come close to Juanita's in Pomona CA, my reference standard. My one negative is that I don't think the salsas are set up properly from a sanitation point of view. When you hold your little container over the bowl and pour into it with the huge dipper, it's almost impossible to avoid getting some on your fingers which then drips back into the bowl. I'll be honest, this is one of those places that looks like eating there involves some risk. It's "divey" but absolutely delicious. So, the reward has (so far) outweighed the risk. Breakfast, lunch & dinner can all be found on their vast menu of Mexican standards--along with tasty oddities like an Arizona burrito and a Flying Saucer tostada. The lady behind the register completely made my food the exact opposite of what my daughter specifically ordered. My daughter made it VERY clear that we didn't want onions and when the food came it had onions. When I took it back inside to get it corrected the lady was EXTREMELY RUDE, rolled her eyes and started telling me that "it's not my problem" and pointed at my daughter saying "it's her problem!" I told her "I don't care whose problem it is, let's just fix it". She was so angry at me and made it very clear when she hurled the food in the trash. I saw this and told her that she "could just give me my money back then", she refused to give me my money back and instead remade the food but charged me for the two more expensive items instead of adjusting the total to reflect the food we actually order. I've been eating here since moving to Grand Junction in 2007. I have to admit that the food quantity and quality has declined a bit over the years but it's still great tasting Mexican for the price and there are quite a variety of "authentic" food choices. I almost always use the Drive Up now and that's where things go wrong. I've mentioned the below several times to the girls at the window but it doesn't seem to get through to the owners. Their drive-up is abysmally SLOW! Many times when I REALLY want the food I just pull out because my engine is running hot waiting. There is a SIMPLE fix for this. The ordering speaker is TOO CLOSE to the pick-up window. This often means the food ISN'T READY when a large order is placed. This in turn holds up the entire line. The fix is SIMPLE. Just move the ordering speaker to the East side of the building. That would give the kitchen a 4 car jump start on having the order ready to go when customers get to the window even if it is a big one! read more

This is an amazing place- friendly staff and the food is incredibly delicious and affordable! It is on a busy road and yet is quite accessible for bus, cars, and foot traffic. Stayed in Grand Junction overnight and found this restaurant open early and selling burritos. When I walked in it had that great feel of many of the awesome authentic Mexican restaurants in California. I ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon, potatoes and eggs - I was not disappointed. It was big and full of flavor. I ate half for breakfast and finished the rest when I got to my destination. If I'm ever passing through again, this will be my stop for eats! read more

I had menudo. If you've never had menudo, you are missing one of the most disgustingly awesome things ever. It's tripe aka beef stomach in a broth with onions, chili peppers, cilantro, and hominy then seasoned with oregano. It's fatty and greasy and yummy. Best food for a hangover and this place makes a pretty good one. My other favorite thing is it served in a styrofoam bowl with plastic utensils so In my own head I can avoid the germs. I went to Los J's for the first time last night because I was craving some tacos. Overall the experience was pretty good, I really liked the selection of tacos. Pictured from left to right are the Carnitas, Carne Asada, and the Adobada tacos. All three of the tacos that I tried were much larger than I expected, with about six ounces of meat per taco they were more like burritos with tiny corn tortillas. The toppings and tortillas were very good, and the only problem I found with the food was that the meat was dry and over cooked like it had been sitting on the grill pre-prepared rather than cooked fresh. Other than that I was disappointed that the tacos were individually packed in styrofoam boxes even though I was eating there just because of the waste it causes. read more

I like the food here, but just not quite as much as the Clifton location. I think their burritos are the way to go and really like the machaca version. Tacos, like too many Grand Junction tacos, are a little structurally unsound. I hate when I pick it up, after one bite, the filling falls out the bottom. Salsa bar is very good. Prices are very good. A vegetarian can get a good meal here as can an omnivore. Good eats. read more
