Fun and casual dinner tonight after a long day of site seeing! Los Magueyes is a little off the beaten path, but I think the best places often are!! Tons of vegetarian options too!! Their chips and salsa are really good!! I got a Merlot to drink and my husband got a Mexican Coke. We shared the Mushroom and cheese quesadilla with Spanish rice and salad. Simple but delicious! Also got the pork tamale with red chile sauce. Interestingly here in New Mexico, neither the green nor red sauce is very spicy (good for most of us.) If you have ever been to Cocina Azul in Albuquerque, the chile relleno here is very comparable in taste and texture, which is to say The Best! Not our favorite. Los Magueyes offers a large menu which can be a little too much for those of us who keep it simple. We ordered shrimp cocktail and some tacos. Tacos were dry, very salty, bland no taco toppings other than green salsa. Something we're not used to! Shrimp cocktail had a perfect sweet and tang taste to it (we all loved). This restaurant is located in a tourist area and is very expensive for what their food is. Cute hidden little place with an outdoor patio and live music. Trying to find a casual place to eat and relax, with authentic New Mexico flavors, we went on Yelp to see what was near where we were at the time and Los Magueyes popped up, just 5 minutes away. We called, to confirm they were opened and when we got there we were immediately seated. The menu is displayed at the entrance and in the second seating area, for everyone to look at but not touch to avoid spreading Covid. On this second area I mentioned we heard a piano and asked if we could be moved there. Without any issues or delays our awesome server moved everything to our new table and we enjoyed a really nice night with live music from two very different artists. They entertained us with their music, anecdotes and even more when they decided to play a "duel". From the menu I went with their Mixed Fajitas Special. This comes with chicken, meat and shrimp grilled with onions and peppers. Warm tortillas on the side and refried beans. The dish comes out sizzling hot, spreading the delicious aroma of the grilled ingredients and the taste was amazing. Portion is generous too. The enchiladas were really good too and 100% approved by a tough critic, my boyfriend. His dish came with rice so we shared his rice and my beans to make a perfect side to our dishes. This place really surprised us and is goin on our list of "visit again" when in Santa Fe. read more

I love this place. I'm only in Santa Fe twice a year, but between the service and the food, it feels like a good neighborhood spot - even if it's in the touristy part of town. I'm always outside with a dog on the patio, but the interior looks warm and inviting. Worth a stop, for sure. read more

Walked in for dinner July 3. Looking for some place casual and good. Reviews were good so thought we'd try. Located in Burro Alley not far of the Plaza.. Nice breeze in the alley. Sat at small table on the patio. Attentive service. No liquor license so if a cool beer is desired, this is not the place. Order came quickly, but sent both dishes back as they were barely warm. Waiter was gracious and apologized and dishes were properly heated when returned. Rule 1-don't make assumptions. I assumed my 4 enchiladas came with beans and rice. No! My wife reported that women's bathroom was filthy. Food was just ok. Presentation lacking. When check was presented, I was surprised when presented the option to pay cash or pay the processing fee with credit card use. As I carry little cash, credit card was my only option. Pricing was favorable given that this is Santa Fe. Use your judgement. read more

I love love loved this place!!! Super fun restaurant and great Mexican food! The only downside was the slow service but it can be overlooked. Started off with a Virgin frozen margarita. It was delicious! Next came chips with salsa and queso. The salsa was fine could have used more cilantro. The queso was the real standout! I had the Chile verde. The Chile verde was cooked and flavored well but a little spicy for me. The rice and beans served on the side where very delicious. Lastly I finished with the churros. Some of the best I've ever had!
