    If you're looking for classic New Mexican comfort food in Santa Fe, Tomasita's absolutely delivers. We grabbed a table on the patio and started with their fresh sopapillas, which came out warm, fluffy, and perfect for tearing apart and dipping in honey. For my husband's meal, he ordered green chile enchiladas, smothered in their famous hatch green chile and melted cheese. The sauce had that perfect New Mexican balance -- flavorful, a little smoky, and with just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the dish. I went with chicken tacos, served with Spanish rice and all the fresh toppings. The tacos were loaded with shredded chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa, and the rice on the side was fluffy and well seasoned. To drink, I tried a layered frozen margarita, which was as fun to look at as it was to drink -- icy, refreshing, and perfect for a sunny afternoon on the patio. My husband had a cold beer, it made for the ultimate Santa Fe lunch combo. Between the flavorful food, the relaxed patio atmosphere, and the classic New Mexican dishes done right, Tomasita's is one of those spots that reminds you why Santa Fe's food scene is so special. Definitely a place I'd come back to anytime I'm in town.

    After a long day of adventuring back and forth to Albuquerque for a football game and other sightseeing, it was pretty late and I had just arrived back into Santa Fe on the railrunner. I started to agonize over all the dinner choices I had, but ultimately, convenience won out and I ended up just wandering into Tomasita's. Literally the closest thing to where the train dropped me off. It had a ton of reviews, and looks like it had been around for quite some time, so I went in. The place is massive, and the joint was jumping. They actually had a short wait. Upon being seated I was asked if I wanted chips and salsa... leading to my main complaint. Where I come from, and at every other place in NM I visited for similar cuisine, that is provided for free. They charge for it here. Listed on the menu... but I had not seen it at that point. I felt this was deceptive. That said, it was just a few bucks, and maybe the chips and salsa would be awesome. That was not the case. My chips were overcooked and stale tasting, and the salsa did nothing to help. A flat waste, and not a good first impression. From there things were better, and actually, my carne asada was way better than I expected... in the realm of cheap steaks, this was certainly one of the better ones. It was a combination that also came with a cheese chile relleno that I thought was great, and a chimichanga which was not. I was pretty full after that, didn't eat much on the rice and beans, but found them just fine. Interestingly, chips and salsa not free, but a wonderful puffed up sopapilla with a sweet cinnamon butter was. This, the sirloin, and the chile relleno helped save the meal. All in all, this felt like a pretty touristy place, but one with a long history. I thought it was fine, but should mention, it was my least favorite meal of the trip where just about everything else was a culinary delight.

    It was... meh. We waited almost two hours for a table, and after all that buildup the food ended up being pretty mediocre. Not really sure what all the hype is about when there are definitely better spots to eat around Santa Fe. I ordered the carne adovada. The red chile sauce felt pretty one-note and the pork was on the tough side, which was disappointing given how popular the dish is there. Honestly, the chips and salsa were the highlight of the meal. The salsa definitely has some heat to it too . Overall, between the long wait and average food, it just didn't live up to the reputation.

    I came in on a lazy and cold night, no wait required. We sat by the bar in a cozy booth. We ordered margaritas, I actually was surprised that they served frozen margaritas, I thought that they were gone with the wind like piña coladas. We ordered a regular margarita and a frozen one, and both were delicious. We also ordered a tortilla soup, a carne adovada burrito, and a mix platter. That gave us a good sample of New Mexico food and Tomasita's as well. We enjoyed the food a lot. The mix platter was good, the carne adovada was amazing, the soup was good, and the sopapillas stole the show. I loved those fried things. To summarize, we had a good meal, we tried several items, we got a good idea of New Mexico cuisine, and we ate at a somewhat upscale restaurant with great service.

    Cute little spot right by the rail yard. Went for a late lunch and had a wonderful experience. Great service and great atmosphere. Ordered a couple dishes beef sopapillas and chicken enchilada. Really big portion sizes and staff was so friendly (helped with sauce levels). We also had pine cheesecake- different but really good as well as they start you off will sopapillas and butter/honey (IN house honey) aka SOO GOOD- the combo was amazing. Overall great experience and a must for sopapillas

    Being from out of town we decided to try out the Rail Runner and right by the depot in Santa Fe is Tomasita's! Relatives suggested we give it a try and I was glad we did. Our waitress was so friendly and gave fantastic suggestions. We enjoyed our margaritas, meals, and sopaipillas. Definitely a must-stop in Santa Fe!

    This spot was on my list of restaurants provided by Pack Up and Go for my bday trip so of course I had to stop by since it was listed as one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe! It was a nice easy stroll from my hotel right by the Santa Fe Plaza. I got a very delicious margarita as well as the chili rellenos with Christmas sauce. It totally hit the spot! The portion was huge for me so I definitely had leftovers. The fry bread that came with it was also very yummy! Definitely a good stop on my first visit to Santa Fe! One weird thing, I was sitting at the bar and it seemed this group of older people had come in for whatever special they were having and they basically just hovered around me at the bar trying to get me to leave so that they could sit there. I was near the end of my meal so it wasn't a huge deal (and not the restaurant's fault) - just made me feel awkward and like I had to quickly finish up to get out of their way.

    Misrahin provided excellent customer service! The decor is amazing, the musicians serenaded tables, the margaritas are potent (that's according to my colleagues, I had a soft drink), and at the entrance is a warning that their chiles are the HOTTEST (also according to my colleagues, because I avoid spicy). Everyone loved their food! Misrahan provided good recommendations, so I enjoyed my grilled veggie quesadilla, sans the green chile which was on the side;). We couldn't fit their famous dessert (being fully stuffed) sopapilla with ice cream, but if their sopapilla with dinner was any indication, that famous dessert must be yummy!!! A wonderful place to enjoy dinner with colleagues, so do visit and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

    We have eaten here in the past when we lived in Santa Fe and always have had very good experiences. This particular time we dined out on the patio since we had our dog Henry with us. We were told the wait was about 20 minutes and we got seated in about 35 minutes. Our server was friendly and attentive for being as busy as the were. The ground beef stuffed sopapilla and beef tamale both smoothered with green chille, and the ground beef taco were all great. The salsa with our salsa and chip side was very good, and the sopapilla with honey butter was great. Overall, we had a nice dinner amd some great food.

    Nice little place close to the hotel. Many people at the agency we were visiting suggested this place. Now, I am a looker. I look at what other people are eating to see if something catches my eye. Things I was seeing didn't really entice my taste buds. I was in the mood for chips and salsa but you had to pay for chips and salsa. I wasn't going to pay for chips and salsa. I decided on the Tuesday special plate. It was a taco, enchilada, and chile relleno. I asked for a ground beef taco. It was okay. The meat had a taste I wasn't used to. It tasted gamey, like venison. One of my coworkers said they may use very lean meat. I dowsed it with salsa and salt and ate it. The enchilada was a blue corn tortilla with chicken. It was okay, I cannot believe I'm saying this, the chile was a little too spicy for me. The relleno was good. The sauce was a little too chunky for me but had a good flavor. Now, I really wanted some rice. The rice was underdone. Someone told me they serve their rice al dente. Sorry, it was underdone. I did not eat it. The sopapillas and beans were good. I asked for a drink to go, and it was a huge cup. I don't think I took any leftovers with me. I had planned to and even asked for a to-go container, but I changed my mind. I think there are other places I would like to try if I am ever in the area again.

    Tuesday, our last lunch in Santa Fe at Tomasitas in the rail yard district. Tomasitas was not on our radar screen, but they must have been for half of Santa Fe. We were just checking out the rail yard district and looking for a place to have lunch. There was no line outside the restaurant, but it was jammed packed inside, elbow to elbow waiting to be called. The bar area is small and it was packed. Once checked in the wait was just shy of 30 minutes. They seated us at a two top in what I'll call the sun room. No charm here. The only problem is that we were next to a group of six that were having a really good time and were extremely noisy. Luck of the draw! We started with chips, salsa, quacomole, salsa and margaritas. The chips were thick and a bit hard. The quacolome was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The salsa was run of the mill. I ordered flat chicken enchiladas with green chili sauce. They were very good. When Jan serves these at home she calls them stacked enchiladas. Jan ordered the tamale plate and said they were excellent. In summary, the food is very good and that's the most important thing when dining out. The restaurant was slammed and very noisy. The service was OK, the prices moderate.

    Save your time and money. This is overhyped. We waited almost 2 hours, so bland Tex-Mex. As someone from Texas, I was shocked at how horrible this food is passed off for such a long wait. I literally could find this food in 20 different spots across one Houston neighborhood. I think hype is really playing this place up. The temale reminded me of an Amy's frozen meal. I eat them often and was like this tastes soooo familiar. Their beef tacos was the saving grace. Amazing, flavorful, crunchy. If I were Tomasita's, I'd be pushing these tacos!! They taste way better than that green chile sauce they are pushing.

    Came to Sante Fe for a day trip with my friend on my birthday and ended up having my birthday lunch here. We didn't have a reservation and though the place was packed for a weekday, we didn't have to wait at Al. Service was quick and polite and yes they ask you if you want them to sing happy birthday to you on your day :) As a Mexican coming from Los Angeles, I am very practiced with both Mexican cuisine + spicy foods. All this to say; I'm still confused how they advertise their chili as spicy (in fact, quite spicy!) when their chili was a 2/10 spice level at best (think... Chipotle's pico de gallo sauce). Mexican plate (lighter meal) 2/5 this was ,, just okay and more plain / bland than anything. It is definitely a lighter meal but I wasn't super hungry so this was perfect for me.

The food is always flavorful, quick and excellent.

If you're looking for the classic Santa Fe food experience I'd say this is the place to go! And you truly can't beat the cost, for a table of four we were shocked at how low the cost was. I also ordered an agua Fresca watermelon and it wasn't made of real watermelon but flavor syrup from the bar. I wished I had known that it wasn't real melon. 2.5 stars for the food and 2 for service. Again food wasn't terrible, but certainly wasn't close to be the best.
