I stopped in for lunch because I wanted to try their seafood. I got the Filete a la Diabla which was marked as one of the spiciest menu items. It didn't start out as spicy but really built up as I ate and got me sniffling by the end. It was pretty good and felt rather healthy with the variety of veggies. The chips came with salsa and queso. The salsa had a little bit of kick, but the queso isn't spicy at all. Thankfully they have a box with like a dozen hot sauces at every table, so I had a bit of fun looking through for a sauce to add to the queso. The decor and atmosphere is nice too. The place has a nautical theme but doesn't overdo it. It's unassuming from the outside but really comfy inside. read more

I remember stopping by at this place years ago, so when I stepped in earlier today, it was a nostalgic homey feeling. The service was great and welcoming, she spoke Spanish with us which was perfectly fine! I got a michelada which was flavorful and refreshing at a great price. The chips and salsa provided are okay, I would say it was my least favorite part of the visit. The chips taste store bought and cold and the salsas were very mild. I ordered the camaron tequila to try something new, and I was intrigued when I read it came with rice and fries- a little different than the normal rice and beans. The sauce was delicious and spicy with a hint of butter, and the mushrooms bell peppers and onion complimented the shrimps very well. It was a great portion and really great flavor for the price. My wife and i went to Porto Penasco last night and the service was Bad, and the food was gross. when we sat down to order, the waitresses didn't come near our table, i had to get their attention to come to our table. when the food arrived, we were not given anything to eat it, i had to call someone to give us a means to eat the food. the menu items that we ordered was gross and unappealing. my wife and i won't be returning to this restaurant anytime soon. nor should anyone else! it sucked! read more

Came back a second time, but this time, I ordered the Mole Poblano. It was very tasty, and I enjoyed it immensely. My favorite thing about this place is the rice with corn that they make here as a side. It's something that I have not had at any other Mexican restaurant. They also offer fries as a side, but on this visit, I chose the pinto beans instead. The service is very friendly, quick, and responsive. The ambiance looks like a traditional American seafood restaurant, but it definitely serves good Mexican food. read more

Loved the food, the service, the staff. A big plus is that not only do they have excellent food, but they are one of the few (maybe only one not a bar) sit down restaurants open after 9:00pm in Santa Fe (or at least in this area). After reading an article in the Santa Fe Reporter about Puerto Peñasco we decided to give a try on a snowy February afternoon. I ordered the Camaron Crema Chipotle and it was one of the best seafood dishes I have eaten. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the crema chipotle sauce was delicious with just a hint of heat. I would certainly return to this restaurant for a repeat meal. Also, the young woman who served us was terrific. All around very nice experience. read more

Nice, clean restaurant. I had the beef taco platter & it was pretty yummy. However, I didn't care for the beans, there were chunks of hotdog in them. The meat was seasoned nicely for the carne asada tacos, which is unusual for a New Mexican restaurant, usually New Mexicans only use salt & pepper, this place actually used seasoning. Prices weren't bad. The parking sucks where the restaurant is located though. A lot of law enforcement officers were coming & going for their dinner breaks, so you know the food is good. read more

I would like to give some constructive criticism to the manager of this place into hiring waiting staff that's capable of at least understand some English and be able to communicate in a more concrete way with the costumers, because I went in yesterday and not only they barely went to check on our table but when I went to the restroom there was not any toilet paper, I told one of the girls that were working and I don't know if they did not understand what I said but they just laughed. This place is not good at all. Service and food are bad . The staff should reconsider their career paths. The restaurant manager has been told of their unsatisfactory service. They don't care. Food is gross. People only go there because the other mariscos place is always packed and parking is bad. I left the place after paying and bought some sweet bread from the bakery next door . Way better and less expensive . They also have meals there . Save money by going there instead. Or stay there and get sick from food and dirty building . read more

I tried this place almost by accident and have returned multiple times. The carnie asada tacos are very tasty and the staff are nice. I have seen several tables of law enforcement eating, so I feel safe and you know the staff are most likely good citizens. The staff are always friendly and they support veterans. read more

The food is very good, excellent in fact, the reason for this review is the SLOW service. Fifteen minutes to take our order, then 20-25 minutes to receive our food. The restaurant was not very busy because we go early to lunch. They either need to train their servers or the kitchen, maybe both. This is the second time we've gone and the same problem. read more

After my brother insisting that we NEED to hit this place up, we finally did. A great place to have some beer and eat some good food! If you want MEXICAN food in Santa Fe, don't be shy drop in this place. They had soccer going, in spanish of course and there staff speaks fluent spanish and english. Let's just say there weren't any Gringos on the staff ha. Excellent service with an emphasis on Seafood and the salsa was on point as you wait for your food. Warnings: I'm originally from El Paso so I tend to lean towards authentic Mexican food, not New Mexican. If you're like me then this place won't disappoint you. There are a couple of things that give you indicators that it is authentic. First, the menu is primarily in Spanish. That's a good thing. Second, there is some sort of border music blaring. (I'm too much of an ignoramus to know the exact type) I had the Shrimp Tequila which had three little red warning chiles next to it. That turned out to be a good warning as it was pretty hot. I like my food to taste like I've been sprayed with mace and this did not disappoint. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the overall plate was really well presented. My guess is that anything that anything with seafood in it is going to be good. The non-seafood items were ok, but nothing like their seafood. Stay away from the margaritas, I think they were wine based and not very good. There were lots of tables drinking sangria so maybe that's better. read more

Really excellent Mexican style seafood., at an affordable price. Not a "tourist trap, very friendly and genuine. Four of us met for dinner, and each of us was well satisfied. Salmon was grilled just to point of "perfect", with a nice pico de gallo sauce; ceviche was excellent, and a huge portion (yes, it was the large size, but we all shared it, and there was some to take home!)... shrimp looked amazing, and the fourth dish, seafood in a chile sauce, was very good. Dinners come with rice, fries and a lettuce/tomato salad. Mmmm! Chips and salsa (tasty starters!) are complementary, a rarity in Santa Fe! Puerto Peñasco is well worth a visit. read more

Loved this little strip mall restaurant. Unfortunately the ambiance was lacking since we were the only diners in the entire restaurant, and it was between 6 and 7pm. Service was the best, but it should be when you're the only customers. This was a week night and the day after a major holiday so maybe people were just staying in this evening. The chips, salsa and guacamole sauce were great as starters. The shrimp cocktail was to die for. Big shrimp with bits of tomato, onion, celery, avocado in a nice tomato juice. The small size came with 7 large shrimp. The Shrimp Enchiladas were perfect, served on a beautiful Mexican looking plate. The shrimp had been chopped up, but were still flavorful and the green chili was top notch. Price was great and the dinner was enough to split, unless you're over-the-top hungry! Very well-prepared authentic Mexican food. Their salsa is outstanding and very spicy, which my husband and I enjoy. We both had the tacos (my husband the fish and I had the pork). They were both delicious. The fish was not overcooked..kudos to the chef! The plates are very large in portion and the prices were more than reasonable. I hit this place once or twice a month. Totally decent Mexican food, and I emphasize Mexican, not New Mexican. This California native typically thinks the Mexican food in Santa Fe has been so "New Mexicanized" with all the green chilie B.S. that most of it is terrible. Puerto Peñasco is one of the few exceptions. If you're more accustomed to the type of Mexican food you'd find in the Los Angeles area, you'll probably like this place. They have a taco plate that has a great mixture of steak, shrimp, and bacon in each taco... it's fantastic! I'm not a huge fan of their rice. It's more of a plain old white rice as opposed to Spanish rice. Their pinto / charro beans are good, but I prefer refried bean... which they will make you upon request. This is clearly a family owned operation as the kids are often taking orders and serving the customers... and they do a pretty good job of it too! read more

Don't bother! I asked the server if the enchiladas were flat or rolled. She said they had both. I specifically asked for rolled enchilada's. The server told me that she was eating at the moment and her enchiladas were made rolled. When my plate came the enchiladas were flat. We called the server over. Her explanation was "my enchiladas were rolled, sorry". I let it go but the more I thought about it the more upset I became. I asked twice when placing the order for rolled. She took my plate back. It took approx. 10 min. before she came back out with my corrected plate with rolled enchiladas. (There was only one other table occupied in the restaurant with two people at the table). My plate was incomplete! It was missing the rice. The server was sitting at a booth with the hostess, another employee and a person we thought to be the cook. They couldn't see the floor well. My husband had to get up to get the waitress's attention. We let them know the the rice was missing. They did offer to bring a side of rice but by this time I was done. The restaurant was quiet except for the employees at the booth. They were very loud. This was our first time at this restaurant and we wanted to look over the menu. Our waitress told us to wave her down when we were ready. Really? The waitress told us that sometimes things like this happen (WHAT?)as we were checking out, (which took a while because the credit card machine ran out of paper and the hostess was having trouble changing it) The food wasn't that great. To their credit they did discount my husband's meal, which was the more expensive of the two. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

This place is close to where I live so my spouse and I come here pretty frequently. Very authentic Mexican seafood for those times when NEW Mexican food (which we do love) feels tired. Very similar menu to Marisco's La Playa, also a favorite, which means Micheladas (salty beer with Clamato and lime); spicy shrimp dishes served over buttery, salty rice (heck yes!); seafood cocktail appetizers, awesome fish tacos, great thick-cut wedge fries, and that greenish avocado mayonnaise dip served with tortilla chips. Family-friendly atmosphere that always seems to include a HUGE Spanish-speaking family with a million kids and a happy, fat baby throwing food on the floor (which would be annoying in certain environments but somehow works with the ambience here). Quite generous portions to the extent that the prices feel fair. Spicy means truly spicy which is good in my book. Great service every time we've been there. A wonderful spot for a casual, delicious dinner that really feels authentic, for those who want to experience a true "south-side" gastronomic experience. read more
