Delicious dinner for our last night in Santa Fe!! I got a Pacifico and my husband a Limeade! We shared chips and salsa. I got the Veggie Enchiladas Suiza and my husband got the Veggie Santa Fe Enchiladas! Both were delicious and fit our individual tastes. The restaurant has really cool decor! Bob, Laurie, Gayle, and I had dinner here on our first evening in Santa Fe. I picked this place as it was walking distance from our VRBO and the Plaza, and I was jonesing for a New Mexican Mexican order that asked me whether I wanted red, green, or Christmas. I also used Open Table had no idea how crowded the Plaza area might be going into the weekend. La Fogata was nice, well decorated, and comfortable. We all enjoyed the ambiance and service, although Bob and Laurie's food restrictions prevented a full appreciation of the cuisine. However, their choices of Carne Asada and a plain burrito suited them just fine. Gayle and I carried on with her choice of Camarones a la Plancha and Mole Enchiladas for me. The adult beverages consisted of a glass of Chardonnay (Gayle) and Margarites for the rest of us. Pricing was good, service was attentive, and it was a very good start to the weekend. read more

I hardly ever write bad reviews: but..... From the moment we walked in, the service was a mess, slow, inattentive, and borderline dismissive. We waited way too long just to get drinks ordered, and it didn't get any better from there. To make things worse, we ordered empanadas and they brought out the wrong ones, but at that point we had already been waiting so long that it didn't even feel worth sending them back. That pretty much sums up the experience: just settle for whatever you get because getting it fixed would probably take forever. The food itself wasn't even the issue of temperature, it just wasn't good. The flavors fell flat, nothing stood out, and it definitely didn't live up to expectations, especially for the price. The only redeeming part of the entire experience was the drinks, they were actually solid and probably the only reason this review isn't even worse. Overall, between the terrible service, wrong order, and underwhelming food, I wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. We ordered a handful of apps and 2 entrees. They brought out the chips and "salsa" which was so watery calling it soup would be an overstatement. 1/10. Then, nothing came out for 40 minutes, and me and my son had to leave because we had a ghost tour. Not even the other appetizers. Such horrible service. Tried the food later was inedible. Had to pay for a second dinner because the service at this restaurant was so horrible. read more

Cozy ambiance. Drinks were delicious. I had the Mexican Margarita and it was just the right amount of spicy. Hubby started with the Oaxiacan Old Fashioned. Pricey but he enjoyed it. I had the Sante Fe Enchiladas with red and green sauce on the side. Hard to explain why it was so good, it just tasted super fresh and the cilantro rice and black beans were perfect. Hubby had the Barbacoa plate. He loved it. 4 stars only as we had to grab server for drinks. Would definitely come back again. PS sat at the bar since we didn't have reservations. read more

We were doing some shopping Im Santa Fe and needed a place for lunch. This place was fantastic. My wife ordered an old fashioned and it came out in a container with smoke. My pina colada was inside a pineapple. They just dug put the pineapple and put a drink on there. I ordered the chili relleno and it was hot, fresh and very cheesy. We stopped in last night around 8pm and ordered chips and salsa, a tamale with mole, the sopés and the carne asada. I loved my carne asada and everything that came with it. The beans, rice and flour tortillas were great and my husband kept stealing off my plate even though he loved his meal too. He raved about the mole on his tamale. The staff was super friendly. Service was prompt and the restaurant had some fun art on the walls. We enjoyed our meal and will be back again for their Tuesday night mariachi music. read more

Stopped in for a michelada, and the La Dona didn't disappoint. The crispy thin beef jerkey and shrimp was a nice touch. A bit expensive at $15, but for the size it was worth it. Service was friendly. read more

He jotted down some notes, looked up, and kept on looking down at his notes. When he was finally ready to do his job, he asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't, and proceeded to inform us that it would be a 45 minute wait. But then threw in that they'd be closing at 9 sooo, mind you it was 7:30. He quite literally indirectly turned us away. Mind you, they were several dirty tables with no guests at. Mole Chicken enchiladas were bland and not very warm, chicken empanadas were also bland and it seemed like the deep fryer oil needed to be changed. Black beans were ok but not very warm. The green rice was instant rice and not good at all. No beer on tap. Disappointing food, definitely for those who don't like Mexican seasoning. Milder than mild. read more

Friendly service on arrival. Unfortunately the food service takes too long. The seating appears family-friendly and that they have booths and larger tables. They also have a kid's menu. The menu prices are relatively average or however I was surprised that they charge for chips and salsa as well as $17 for tableside guacamole. The music is a nice volume to have conversation. The interior decor is nice. They also have a full bar in people can be seen on date night as well as celebrating family events. My family really enjoyed the food. We ordered fajitas-shrimp was a little overcooked, beef was a little light on the serving but taste was good. Plenty of fresh cut peppers. The empanadas were also very tasty. Best hidden gem for Mexican food in Sante Fe. Don't want to wait, don't have a reservation and want to eat on the square but at a place the locals know then check out La Fogata. We stopped in for lunch before the crowd hit. We started with the chips and salsa for $6. The homemade chips were a little too thick for me that they were crunchy and tasty. I usually try to stay positive in my reviews but I just couldn't. We came to this place with high hopes because of all the good reviews, we were in a hurry and I guess I didn't bother to read what the bad reviews said, but our experience does somewhat mirror the experience of other bad reviews. First and foremost, they have a sign outside talking about offering a cash discount, which I thought was super tacky, but we were already there and we didn't realize what they really should have said was "we charge extra for credit cards". We found that out when we got the bill later when they added a "technology fee". Oh get this guys, they force you to tip 20% regardless of how the service was, and it gets added on top of the technology fee so you're tipping on a fee as well! A fee that they are very stealthy about and probably shouldn't be charging in the first place. So we got seated, and we ordered a couple appetizers and an entree to split. The guacamole, we were told was enough for 5 people. And we actually had 5 adults there, I graciously offered to pay for everyone's guacamole and put it on my tab thinking that the server was telling the truth. The guacamole comes out and it's such a disgrace, it's only enough for like 2 or 3 people , so I ended up having only 2 or 3 chips of dipping worth of guacamole. To make matters worse, the guacamole tasted like nothing, almost like straight up avocado. It wasn't tangy or spicy, or just tasted bland completely. So I asked if I can have more limes for the guacamole, and little did I know, I was going to get charged $2.50 for limes on top of $17 that the guacamole costed just to make their bland recipe a little more bearable. Then we got the cheese dip which we also didn't like, and apparently the server took it on himself to add an extra tortilla to our order because we were sharing it; which normally we would consider a nice gesture , but he changed us $2.00 for tortillas we never asked for. The amount of salsa we got for the table was very little; we asked for extra and of course it was $2.50 for what would be free somewhere else. They advertise as New Mexican, but where are the free sopapillas? The chile en nogada was okay, not good or bad. But it definitely was expensive! It was just okay enough to eat. $25 The Mexican margaritas were the only things that tasted good and the price wasn't a rip off. But even then, the pictures and special cup we were supposed to get it in didn't match how it was served. At the end, I asked for more chips, and I got a side of fries for which I was charged $6. Definitely never coming back here again. read more

We walked into this brightly colored and decorated dwelling and immediately felt a good vibe. I loved all the fresh flavors going on here. My favorite dish hands down was the pupusas. It was stuffed with spinach and several types of cheese and was pure heaven. My only regret was sharing them with my husband. We also tried the poblano and potato soup. The bowl was huge and our waiter brought us and extra bowl so we could share easier. We still couldn't finish it. The broth flavor was bold with a nice kick but not too spicy. Potatoes were a tad on the firm side and could have been cooked a little longer but other than that we really enjoyed this unique soup. For our main course we both tried the combo plate. It came with chille relleno, a cheese enchilada, asada taco and rice and beans. We got ours "Christmas style" with both red and green sauce (recommend). The flavors of everything were excellent, some of the best I've tried in a long time. If this is indicative of New Mexican cuisine consider me the newest fan! read more

Where to eat New Mexican food on a Monday evening in Santa Fe. We had just gotten into town with most restaurants in our price range closed for the evening. Looked specifically for this place on this address, and would not have found it except for signs directing us downstairs below ground level. Service is leisurely at best. Wife's $18 mole was on the sweet side, and not enough spice to excite her. Meal came with black beans instead of pinto beans for a change, which she liked. Also included Mexican rice, and a small salad with diced tomatoes. My $16 Santa Fe Enchiladas came with two chicken enchiladas covered with green chili sauce and cheese, black beans, Mexican rice, and a small salad with diced tomatoes. Tasty, ate everything without any problems. Pricey as similar meal at Cocina Azuma in Albuquerque with three chicken enchiladas was $17.50. Spice level if anything a bit on the bland side with the green chili sauce. Windowless restaurant in the basement with Day of the Dead pictures of decorated skulls on the wall, but painted in loud colors, so it wasn't too scary to lose my appetite. read more
