Los Mocajetes is one of those places I have probably never said no to. It's been one of our favorite spots for years. Sometimes it's just my husband and me grabbing a seat at the bar, and every single time the service is great and the food is consistently delicious. It's comfortable, welcoming, and always hits the spot. My husband always orders the beef fajitas--every single time--and my younger son does the same. My older son is all about the brisket tacos and swears by them. I usually go for the veggie fajitas, but sometimes I keep it simple with the bean and cheese nachos, which are oddly comforting and always so good. We've been coming here since the original location off 377, and when they moved to the bigger location, we happily followed. That alone says a lot. The quality has stayed consistent, and it still feels like a place you can count on. Like I said... I truly don't think I've ever said no to Los Mocajetes--and I don't see that changing anytime soon. read more

I can only comment on the drinks, service and atmosphere. Unfortunately I was there for a going away party for a coworker. I got a skinny margarita with some spice and it was fantastic. Good food. Service was fast & friendly. Place appeared clean. Breakfast on the weekends from 9am to noon. weekday lunch & manager specials likely make it better price for many items for what you get. I enjoy their chips & salsa. Salsa is mild in heat but good flavor. Salsa verde is medium heat and good flavor. Queso with ground beef is average. My Mom and sister enjoyed their sour cream chicken enchiladas. Large portion (3 enchiladas + rice & beans). My brother in law got the bacon & mushroom quesadillas. He added spinach which ended up being an additional $3. There was sooooo much spinach the ratios were off and made the tortillas soggy. I imagine their spinach quesadillas would not be like that so there was a disconnect. Kids could have split their bean & cheese burritos with rice & beans. My Dad enjoyed his enchiladas. He wanted a few pickled jalapeños and they brought him some which was additional $1.25. I got the appetizer beef quesadillas which were good. The restaurant is called Los Molcajetes but do not have anything on the menu that comes in a molcajete. Service is slow and it is not very busy, many empty tables. Prices are high for the quality of food. Red salsa with the chips they give is also lacking, it's watery and just tastes like cilantro nothing else. Also, it's supposedly a Mexican restaurant but do not offer aguas frescas. If you want authentic Mexican, look elsewhere. read more

Ok...love this place. We went for brunch on a Sunday at 10:30. Not super busy, yet oh so tasty!! We shared the chilaquiles (green sauce) and added shredded beef (highly recommend adding a protein); we also added a side of corn tortillas because that was the right move. We drank mimosas and michiladas and tequila. The bar was super chill, the service was exceptional, and the food was just what we were looking for: breakfast tacos done right! While the food is good, the service is terrible. Our waiter dropped off the food and we never saw him again. I had to flag somebody down to get a tea refill. He only came back at the end to give us our check. There are many great places in the area so choose wisely. While the restaurant is big and there is plenty of seating, that means nothing if I have to shoot off a flare to get a simple tea refill. There were several staff members who were just standing around and it seems that anyone could have jumped in to help out, but they can't be bothered to do anything. We went there on cinco De Mayo ,, they had one little bannister outside so we thought we can celebrate it here. Wrong not one special not one drink special food was blah!!! I have to say their other location is so good but they apparently could care less on this location!!! She sat us down in the back near the kitchen and had to view all the workers standing around,,it was dark and there was plenty of seating elsewhere....food was not good and very disappointing! I ate here earlier for work with colleagues. I got one of their manager specials, I've attached a picture for it. I forgot to take a picture of the food because I ate it too fast. We got some decent chips with salsa and a green sauce while waiting, and the food came relatively fast. If you use apple pay, I think it's much faster to go ahead and leave. The manager specials are really good price value, it filled me up for the day and it felt fairly cheap compared to other places I've been around. Roanoke has a cozy vibe in general, this place feels similarly. read more

I have only been here twice and with fairly large groups both times. The margaritas were better last year when I went. On my recent visit it was not good, which may have been a good thing, since it made me not order another. I was asked if I wanted salt on the rim, I said yes, but did not get salt. It could have been that I just said, "Margarita on the Rocks", instead of checking the menu. Maybe I ordered a better one last year. The food is good. My husband liked his shrimp fajitas. I took home his tortillas and they are wonderful. My spinach quesadilla was good. Their salsa is good, which is a must for me at a Mexican restaurant. It's loud in the restaurant. Well, we gave it another try. Boy are we regretting that! This one takes the cake... even after calling them to report the STEEL BRISTLE STABBED INTO MY SON'S GUMS from the Barbacoa tacos! We love menudo on the weekends. We also love Barbacoa tacos! But our eyes are bigger than our bellies.... So we take to-go leftovers for the day after. Well, this morning, my son was enjoying his left over barbacoa tacos when he made this excruciating face and extracted the steel brush wire from his gums! Thankfully he didn't swallow it causing even WORSE damage. When he called the restaurant he was offered ANOTHER taco, when all he asked for was a change in policy. Just don't use the steel brushes... these have been known to cause SERIOUS problems. Stabbing. Infections. Peritoneal perforations, some of these requiring SURGERY and Even causing sepsis! You need to stop using these steel brushes. They are detrimental to your health and that of your patrons! read more

Not an expert food critic like everyone else but the food was ok and decent portion/price for a lunch special. I got the quesadillas for $9.75 which were OK but I've had better at Chipotle. Went there with my mom and sister who shared the nachos, which were good, but we all had tea which ended up being $10, more than the price of one lunch special. I have a hard time just drinking water with a meal since I drink it all day at work but $3 for a glass of tea? Damn! Service was ok and the restaurant was clean. I would go back for lunch special again, without tea, but I don't think I'd eat here for dinner prices. read more

Disappointing. The service was fine. Ordered the combo fajitas. At 21 bucks they are a bit on the high side. But when you ask for grated cheese and jalapeños to go with it and they add .99 and 1.25 respectively it gets out of line. This place is great. The food was delicious and they give you huge portions. I went to the one in Ft Worth previously but I like this location better because it's bigger and the wait times were shorter. The decor is nicely done and the service was great. The Ft Worth location is in a shopping strip so they are limited on what they can do in the same regard but, still great food and service. I used to frequent the old Los Molcajetes and was curious about the new location. The food was still good and the service was very helpful. I love the layout of the new location. It's very spacious and near all of the fun Oak Street stores. The fajitas were tender and the sides were ample. I think you had to pay extra for sour cream. read more

Without a doubt, this is one of the best dining experiences you can have in the DFW area. The staff is friendly, consistent, and very accommodating. The place is decorated and adorned with traditional Mexican art and props, which becomes very appropriate when eating the food. This is not your typical Tex-mex joints, and as a pro tip any place that serves mole is legit. We ordered queso, a large guacamole, the mushroom and onion enchiladas, along with the barbacoa plate. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well presented. The barbacoa was actually beef cheek, which is traditional, so any place giving shredded beef is not "IT." We have been visiting both locations for about 10 years now, and this trend won't ever stop. It's literally up there in consistency with Chick Fila. Ordered a premium marg w patron. Got one to go. After getting home. I guarantee the one that I got to go was such cheap tequila that it burned my throat too much to drink. A lot of alcohol, but yuck. This Mexican restaurant just did not deliver on my first visit. I ordered and picked up Togo which was an easy process and is located in a cute part of Roanoke. The first disappointing aspect is there seems to be zero checks/ balances of what's being served. I ordered the large Guacamole with chips, however they forgot to put in the chips and with a 20 minute drive I didn't bother to turn back for them. Then there is the guacamole, yikes, the large guac I ordered and the guac that came with my burrito had been long into the oxidation process making it that unappealing murky green-brown. Perhaps they food prep early and then serve to customers throughout the day but it is yet another sign there is not a quality assurance or control happening. My fajita burrito was OK if you enjoy a lot of Spanish rice in your burrito, I wouldn't order it again but the meat the brisket tacos was good so that is the one thing I would recommend. This business needs someone to check bags to ensure patrons receive the items they paid for, as well as, checking for freshness of perishable items. read more
