We originally came over here for Los Molcajetes but they've moved. We decided to give Maria Del Mar a try, I'm so glad we did. They have seating on the enclosed patio and indoor seating. The music wasn't too loud to carry a conversation and decor was tasteful. Our food was spectacular! I ordered the beef fajita quesadillas which came with guac and sour cream, homemade refries beans and rice. However, the table chips and salsa were fantastic! My husband who doesn't eat salsa that has any kind of spice even dipped into the salsa, it was fresh and flavorful. I poured some onto my quesadillas as well. We went on a Friday night at about 5pm. The restaurant was not very busy at all, it was clean and well kept. Customer Service: The people there were very nice, but not super attentive. It took a while to get the server over to take our order. We were not give a drink menu when we first sat down. When we finally did, our drinks came out halfway through our meal. Food: I ordered the birria tacos and my wife ordered the tlayuda. We also got the queso dip. The chips for the queso and salsa were warm and tasted fresh, but we ran out of salsa, and were never asked to bring more out. The queso was ok, nothing really special about it, wasnt spicy or seasoned very well. The birria tacos were way to expensive for what you get. It was $15 for 3 tacos and they were very small and even felt smaller compared to the plate they were on. The tacos were tender, but not very crispy. The consome was very oily and lacked seasoning. the tlayuda was VERY hard to cut through, which may be just how it is, but it was not something you could easily pick up and eat either. I'll break this up into 2 paragraphs since both the Maria Del Mar and the Oven Story Pizza restaurants are there. 1. For as long as I've been going to the Maria Del Mar, it has always been really damn solid, as from maybe 1 or 2 bad experiences, the restaurant itself is still one of my personal favorites. The atmosphere is solid, as well as customer service (wait staff, etc), and of course the food as well. The only thing that in my opinion is a bit of an issue is price, usually going up 15-30 dollars depending what you get such as their ribeye or some of their specials. Other than that, it is a pretty solid place. 2. The newly opened Oven Story Pizza is one of my favorite pizza restaurants I have stumbled across. The wait time usually isn't that long, around 15-30 minutes, and the food is also great. My personal favorite is the butter chicken pizza, and their tikka paneer pizza. However, like the Maria Del Mar, I feel like the price is a bit uppened for what you're getting ( S, M, X or XL ). However, I would still go to either one despite that. I'm an extremely picky person when it comes to Mexican. There's good Mexican and then there's bad Mexican. Maria Del Mar, I would consider, is Great Mexican. I would call their menu a fusion between Authentic & Tex Mex. So many great flavors on the menu. We eat here a lot and we love it. I would consider this hands down, the best Mexican restaurant in the Keller, Alliance, Roanoke, TC area. In my opinion it's not even close and I like quite a few places in the area. Name me a place, I've been there and Maria Del Mar tops them all. I don't understand why it doesn't ever have a wait, because it's delicious food. Can't complain because we always sit down immediately and the food comes out hot & fresh, quickly. If you're looking for truly tasty Mexican with authentic flavors, this is a place you need to try. I'm not sure what all of the hoopla is about because I really did not enjoy this place. I got the beef enchiladas and I thought the meat was a little mealy? Anyway, I didn't enjoy the green sauce either. The cheese sauce was pretty good. It was spicy and I enjoyed that. I don't think I'll come back and I don't recommend it. Y'all already know, this restaurant keeps getting better and better every visit. Tamales were on point lots of meat with the right amount of masa. They were moist with the mole sauce (chefs kiss!) Chicken mole was perfect, taste like how grandma made it.. I do recommend an extra side of rice to soak up the sauce... don't waste that sauce yall!!! Visited on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was not busy. I've been here before and it under new management or revamped... the inside is still the same. The staff is courteous, but short staffed and there is definitely a cultural difference in service. When ordering you better be specific what you want and don't want. Bc the wait staff isn't going to ask you. The food tasted good. My margarita was too sweet ... I don't think they have a dedicated bartender. But I would definitely come by again. read more

We recently tried this place out for the first time, and the food and the service were simply amazing! My wife ordered the birria tacos, and I ordered the birria enchiladas with diabla sauce, and both were excellent! The beef in both entrees was so tender and juicy without all the fat that some places serve. For desert, we ordered the flan, which was some of the best we've ever had. All of the staff were so warm and friendly and frequently checked on us for refills on beverages, chips, salsa, and the black bean dip, which rivaled Glorias! Their menu is huge, and there were so many choices that it was hard to decide, so we will definitely be back to try other things! read more

This is a hidden gem in Roanoke!! Honestly, most of the time I've passed by it doesn't appear to be packed but I could also be passing by during slow hours. We decided to swing by last minute not knowing they closed at 7 on Sundays and they were so sweet to welcome us in with no hesitation to serve us. The waitress was so inviting along with the rest of the staff. Friendly smiles, amazing authentic food, and very nice environment. Management has changed here. Food was bland, service was pretty poor. As others have pointed out you have to ask for everything. We went for lunch at 11:05am first customers. No music on, no tvs on. So, I'll premise this review by the fact that my hubs and I have been coming here religiously almost every Friday afternoon for a lunch date for the last year. After a few weeks of not coming in due to holiday travel, we returned today and entered to a very different restaurant. The initial difference was the staff; there wasn't the friendly face of the manager who always greeted us and knew our favorite appetizer of chicharrones and queso or the very kind and attentive staff. The second; was the ambiance. Instead of the Mexican conjunto, Tejano, ranchero tunes we were accustomed to, we had to listen to the likes of club music...loud, annoying and let's not forget the commercials. All the TVs were on, like we were at a sports bar with some having sound loud enough to hear. Lastly, the food...we were told the cooks hadn't changed, but I beg to differ. My husband had a combo plate the flavors weren't as before and the food wasn't hot. I had the chile relleno/cheese enchilada combo and was so disappointed. Both items were doused in a slightly spicy tomato based sauce that tasted more like pizza sauce than anything Mexican. The salsa would have made a better sauce. The enchilada was terrible, it was a rolled up corn tortilla with cheese that was cold...to be honest, I rate Mexican restaurants by how good they're cheese enchiladas are and today was an epic fail. The charro beans were cold and the rice was al dente chewy. Upon completion of our meal, it took forever to get our check...I'm so disappointed. Maria Del Mar had become our favorite place to have a lunch date, we will be looking for a new place in 2025. read more

They let us take 2 hours to set up ahead of time. They helped me clean up after. If you need a party venue, I highly recommend it. read more

Food is not authentic it's more Tex-Mex. The customer service was not it. They were not rude they simply weren't attentive. We constantly had to ask for refills which are not free. I received my queso but with no chips and by the time I got someone's attention my queso was lukewarm. At the end we received our tab and no pen. We really enjoyed our last few visits to Maria del Mar. We don't eat beef or chicken, but we love seafood. Their seafood dishes so far are excellent, though I'm not a fan of steamed veggies, only roasted. The owner came by to check on us, which was nice, and the restaurant is well-lit and clean. Quaint Mexican restaurant tucked into a shopping plaza next to my gym. Came here for my birthday and ordered a garlic shrimp dish which was delicious!! We are always on the prowl for great ceviche and Mexican seafood cocktails. Several folks on Fort Worth Foodies at FB recommended this new store, open now for just a couple of weeks. As you can see from the pics it is a rather sparsely decorated and appointed store, though comfortable enough. A cloth napkin and quality flatware is a nice, upscale touch. The menu is expansive offering dishes representing various Mexican geographical food cultures. The menu offers four ceviches including the tuna crudo. We opted for the red snapper for starters today. The portion is quite generous and quite tasty. It was more than either one of us could finish by ourselves even if it were our only dish for the meal. The offering here is prepared with a hint of sweetness which we found different but enjoyable. The other item we were pleased to find on the menu is a mixed seafood cocktail. They actually offer four or five different seafood cocktails. For us, for prolly close to 40 years now the gold standard and benchmark has been the Cocktail Siete Mare at La Calle Doce in Oak Cliff. We have yet to find a restaurant that comes close, until today! This is chock full of shrimp, octopus and red snapper, onions and avocado in a very tasty sweet and spicy cocktail sauce. We would have enjoyed a little more heat from jalapeños or Serranos, but we were quite impressed. They offer at table a red hot sauce (house made I think) but I detected a cumin flavor in the sauce that I did not think would work with the cocktail sauce. After sharing the ceviche between the two of us we were able to eat less than a fifth of the shared mixed seafood cocktail. Such is life at 72 for us. LOL. We have take-home for supper though! I ordered their top shelf margarita. I do not order margaritas when they are made with a marg mix of any kind, only when made with freshly squeezed lime juice which the bartender here said is the case. It was enjoyable enough, but just not great. I'll find out what all it is made with next visit. But, hey, the grande top shelf marg is just $11! I'll do again. My wife had a glass of sauvignon blanc, $6. We will definitely be back, and soon! Y'all give it a try. read more

Placed an order on the phone for pick up and not only were the things we ordered incorrect, but extra food was charged and put on our order as well. Fyi, street tacos are not available on the weekends apparently...very strange. Also, unlike all other Mexican restaurants in the area, chips and salsa are not included in your order to go. Pretty much all the food needed salsa or something a little extra as it was bland but we didn't have any salsa to put on it. This place has incredible food!!! The Birria quesadillas are out of this world, and the carnitas Chile rellano was easily the best Chile rellano I've had in my life. Sort of understaffed, so service can be a little slow sometimes if it's busy, but just hang out and enjoy yourself. Also definitely recommend the chicharones appetizer.
