Stopped here on my road trip and now I'm frustrated that this place was so good because it's an hour drive from me. The staff was so sweet, and when other patrons walked in, the knew most by name. We stopped in for lunch while staying at a nearby Airbnb for the weekend after many of the shop owners had suggested going! The restaurant itself was cute and filled with locals which we loved and the staff was very warm and welcoming. While there, we ordered a sandwich, chicken fried steak and a pie as that was their specialty. Unfortunately, it was all good but we didn't love any of it and weren't inclined to go back the next day. If I were to go back, I'd definitely try another pie though! read more

Had the best chicken fried steak here. Seems like the building is an old house and the layout is quaint and unique. Definitely recommend if you're visiting Brenham and looking for a short trip out of town to a historical spot - there's a winery and a museum near the restaurant. read more

What a great place to get some homemade food. Wife and I stopped in here today to try it out. I had the hamburger steak and wife had meat loaf. Both had mash potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes were real homemade mashed and the green beans were the real deal. It was just like mom used to make. The ice tea was brewed fresh and it was ice tea, not water with a little color. We topped it off with a slice of key lime pie and pecan pie. The key lime pie was light and fluffy and had a wonderful lime flavor. The pecan pie was like mom made with real homemade crust. Definitely stop in if you're in the area. Such a cute spot!!!! We were on our way to Houston and we found this place on Yelp. The restaurant is such a cute spot! It was super clean and we felt right at home. The waitress was super sweet and answered all of the questions we had about the menu. She even brought us out a sample of the chili, which was delicious! We were having a hard time deciding what pie to choose, but she suggested the meringue Keylime pie and it was an absolute hit. I would definitely drive to Chapel Hill for some pie! Went there today for lunch with a friend it was busy with people waiting for tables.The gentleman behind us told us we had to sign in they didn't greet you there's a stand that says wait to be seated so we didn't know. We waited about 15minutes to get seated not bad. Waitress was really good and got drinks out quick then we ordered. I got meatloaf my friend got a chicken salad sandwich. Took a little bit to get our food but she finally came with it. My meatloaf was really good fresh green beans good mashed potatoes. The only complaint I have is the food wasn't hot it was lukewarm and I didnt get a roll with it They gave my friend a tuna fish sandwich instead of chicken salad . She was disappointed and didn't want to complain so she ate half and took the other half home. I got a slice of apple pie with ice cream it was delicious only again pie was not warm it was cold. It also was expensive $18 bucks for meatloaf. I won't be going back sorry. read more

The Chicken Fried Steak was just okay, especially for $18.50. The breading was too crunchy (think hard) and the meat was thin and oddly flavored. The meatloaf was very good. The wild rice was pretty tasty and the homemade chips were nice and crispy but the flavor was a little bland. Some people might like the green beans but neither my wife nor I were impressed. We came here for a late lunch on a Friday based on a 'Visit Brenham' brochure - the allure of homemade pie sold us! Plus of course the homestyle food. It is hard to pass up chicken fried anything, so my friend and I both opted for the chicken fried chicken, half portion, that came with 2 sides (I went with mashed potatoes and fried okra, how can you beat that combo). Food was out very fast, but clearly it is homemade in-house, everything was piping hot and delicious. I loved how their okra was not too breading-heavy - heavenly. Service here was also so friendly, they made you feel like a familiar friend eating here. We were so stuffed that we took pie to-go, but I wish I had bought more once I got home and ate it! This is not the food that I remember from years ago, it was much better before the new ownership, I can't believe what happened to the chicken spaghetti dish. Adorable little spot! With great service. Easy to find and not too far in. My husband loved their brisket sandwich and I went with a chicken salad sandwich on sourdough. It was good and more like something you would make at home, which is always great. It was served on homemade sourdough, which wasn't bad, but not the best sourdough I've had. Tried the mimosa's and wow great taste and reasonably priced. Tiffany our server was spot on when giving us a top notch dining experience. Restaurant in a designated Texas Historical house. When there be sure to explore the gift shop and check out all the pies available for purchase...dropped 1 star because I felt they skimped a bit on the amount of breakfast potatoes they served with the meal, but other than that we will be back again.... I would go back to pick up a pie for a special occasion (they really are beautiful creations), but our brunch experience was a little lackluster. We drove out after an overnight stay in Brenham because it sounded like my kind of place -intimate, unique and historical. And yes, it was all that, but our two-top table was sticky and crammed in between a couple other two toppers so closely that there was no privacy for anyone. I felt like I was intruding in the other tables' space if I so much as wiggled in my chair or got up to wash my hands. But, it was a nice view out the front window. The food was good enough, but not amazing. I saw several folks struggling to cut the English muffin or whatever the base was on the Eggs Benedict. Our server didn't check on us very often but she got our order right so rhat"s a win. Maybe? I guess I'm glad to say I've eaten there because I like to support local, long-standing eateries, but I don't plan a return trip (unless I get a hankering for pie and coffee)! What a wonderful and cozy homestyle kitchen in the countryside. I loved it here and loved everything about Bevers Kitchen & Gifts. Arrived here close to one hour before closing and had enough time to snack on some pie and a bit of savory food. Had decent leftovers because I just wanted a light bite to eat that mid-afternoon. I loved their beef chili! I typically can't stand chili without beans, I don't want to eat beef bolognese! But theirs? Even without the beans the chili was darn good. Lots of savory and deep earthy spices. I decided to pair my chili with a side of wild rice. The wild rice was great! Earthy as well, with a tone of ground thyme and diced celery as well as carrot. Paired well with the spicy beef chili. Yum. I liked their beef brisket sandwich as well, which I got to try a bite from my partner. The service was friendly and chill, so was the environment. It's also nestled within a cozy street full of little shops that are unique to the area. Having a sweet tooth, I was impressed with the pies at Bevers kitchen. Hadn't had buttermilk pie in eons. Coconut cream pie with meringue.. good stuff. I was afraid the meringue would be sickly sweet. Nope. The meringue was piled high and cut well with the creaminess of the coconut cream. The pie crust? Absolute crisp. They shine with their sweets and I'll definitely revisit to try another pie when in the area. This spot is recommended by Sara the pastry gal. Go! read more

We stopped here for lunch, after visiting Chappell Hill sausage. The staff was extremely friendly, and service was great. My wife had the Chicken Salad sandwich, and I had the Burger. Both items were very good, and the Bever Chips were great. The price was reasonable for the quality of food. We also took two pieces of pie to eat at home tonight. We saw the big sign on the Freeway, and looked it up on yelp. We were not disappointed with our visit. We will be back again for lunch. read more

As I always do I start with the service and I would say it was easily 6-star. The waitress was very attentive to all the tables she was attending but not so much that it was annoying. Let's just say my tea stayed full. Whatever they pay this young lady it's not enough. I should say when I walked in there was only two other tables occupied but within a few minutes of sitting down a stream of customers began flowing in until most of the tables had occupants. A very good sign which was fortified by the fact that I was the youngest customer easily. Us old folk tend to be particular about where we spend our hard earned money to eat. The setting...my kind of place. Country comfortable is a good description here being situated inside an old house with its not so level floors and shiplap walls. Very comfortable setting indeed that could easily take someone back to your great grandmas kitchen. On to the food the most important part of any review. Being the first time visiting I decided to go with the chicken fried steak in my quest of trying to find a decent one since moving to Brenham fairly recently. I included with that as my sides mashed potato's and fried okra then followed up with a slice of sawdust pie. Overall very tasty indeed. The chicken fried steak was good with the gravy being interesting. It was a bit creamier than I was expecting and use to but still good. I would have liked a bit more pepper cooked in and whatever fat base used but that is more a personal taste then anything else. Nonetheless it was still good and I must say my bar is set to the central Texas region which tends to be along the line of tastes I'm use too. The fried okra was cooked just right being neither under or over cooked and the potatoes where good with my only negative being there could have been a little more of the potato's. Very good in totality though. The sawdust pie I should say that I should not have pushed it that far. I probably took half a day off my life. Very good but I'll have to control myself on my next visit. Overall I really like this place and will be returning maybe next time for the Sunday brunch. Came to Brenham because of power outage in Houston. Fortuitously stumbled upon Bevers Kitchen. One had sides only and one had a vegetable plate on the first visit. All was quite good and the service (Myra) was excellent. On return, one had sides only and one had the meatloaf special. Everything was spot on and the service (Dillon) was again excellent. Went here once on a Saturday and really enjoyed the ambience. There was live music on the front porch and we were seated pretty quickly. I enjoyed looking at all of the pies in the displays. They also have a small gift shop, which I thought was kind of overpriced and odd types of things for sale for a restaurant. I thought they could've use that area to put more tables. I ordered the meatloaf, which came with fried okra and mashed potatoes. I ate all of it, and then I also ordered a brownie pie and ate all of that! Then we walked off our lunch and went shopping in the small town and enjoyed the beautiful weather. I will definitely be going back! read more
