I'm not sure when, but there was a change in either ownership and/or management since my first review, so it was time for an updated review. Los Ranchos has become our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, it's been our "go to" spot for the last year or two. The food is great and the margaritas are fantastic! The only "bad" thing is that they no longer have my favorite item on the menu - "queso fundido" :-( The quesabirria tacos are a favorite, as well as the tamales. We've never had a bad meal here. Last, but not least, the service - all of the servers we've had have been great, very polite and attentive. A great example of service for other restaurants in the area to follow. read more

Since my initial review, much has changed. There is new ownership/management (originally was Los Amigos). The service is great with a very attentive waitstaff. Service is good and quick. Ambiance is typical Mexican restaurant. Food is hit or miss. We went with a group of 6. Two of us got enchiladas which were a miss. They hardly came with any meat in them. More shell than anything. When you're paying $17 that's disappointing. On the other hand, 2 shared fajitas and still left with 2 to-go boxes. We came and it was busy but we were seated promptly. The waiter was very attentive and checked on us many times even though there was a birthday party there and three different people were sung to by the staff because they had birthdays. The one guy they brought a flaming drink to him even. Some People wearing sombreros I think provided by the restaurant. The food was very good and came out fast and hot. Plus, we always complain that they never give you enough napkins....we were only part way through and he slid more napkins on the table for us and we didn't ask. I got a margarita and wow!!! One of my top favorite places to visit for Mexican food in Hudsonville and Jenison. This place has authentic food and drinks. I strongly suggest birthday parties for those turning 21. Went for lunch today with my mom and husband. Friday at noon. We all had a jumbo margarita those were delicious. My mom and I ordered taco salads. She had chicken and loved it. I had beef and think taco bells meat tastes better, also my she'll want as fried as it could be. My husband had the quesadilla especial and he was very happy with it. I love having this place in Jenison. The food is great, drinks are great, and we never have to wait long. My only negative is that they advertise half off appetizers for happy hour. In my experience, if I don't specifically mention this, my bill shows full price. The last time I was there I asked them about it, and instead of 1/2 price, they took $5 off each app. I had to show the website and finally they corrected it on the 3rd try. First visit here and we were quite impressed with everything. Multiple booths and table options are great and they have nice marble-like table tops. We liked the framed paintings all around. The chips and salsa were delivered promptly and the waiter followed up quickly and did a good job with order and checked backed to make sure all was good. We ordered the special fajitas for two and wow, it was cooked perfectly and they didn't overcook meats as many Mexican eateries do. Steak & chicken had no grizzle, and was tender and tasty and nice size shrimp were a hit too. Plenty of food and asked for a to-go container because we both were full. We were seated promptly at 8:30pm on a Monday evening, waited an excessive amount of time for chips and salsa, then we were rushed directly into our food order. Our food came out promptly, so our compliments to the kitchen team. However, our server didn't provide silverware for either of us or tortillas for fajitas. We waited five minutes for him to bring silverware, then another two for the tortillas. When we were done eating, the server was nowhere to be found. Wait! I found him...lounging out on the couch, scrolling through his phone. I'm not joking or exaggerating when I say this, but I watched him sit there for a length of time equal to me writing this review. As a Mexican restaurant, it's the perfect complement to The Win across the street, which incidentally operates in the old Pizza Hut building. We love this place. Any dish you choose will be a delicious experience. I personally love the shrimp tacos. Lots of medium size shrimp, not those tiny cavity fillers many places use. We discovered this restaurant in 2020 before the lockdown and came back once we were able to sit and dine. The chips are just the perfect balance of warm and salty. The lunch specials are very good and I consider them just enough and not feel like a glutton! There is one drawback though. They need to have the host get the server right away. I had a strange dining experience here. I ordered enchiladas and they weren't good. They weren't cooked long so the favors didn't meld and there wasn't much favor there to start. The food came out luke warm and overall unappetizing. When the waiter came by to check on my order, I let him know if wasn't good. He replied that I should've ordered something else. I thought to myself how strange. Later on he came with my bill and it didn't have a reduction for the entree I didn't eat much of which was disconcerting and when I stated I wasn't paying full price he gave me grief. This is just like the Los Amigos locations in Kalamazoo MI down to the menus, which is a good thing since all of their locations are great. This is an especially good place for Jenison since there honestly isn't much going on in that town (and I grew up there so I'd know). Waitstaff is kind and the atmosphere is great. read more
