We decided to have dinner here on night. We have passed this place many times before, but never stopped. Grand rapids has so many other Authentic places to eat at and to us most Mexican restaurants are typically the same, catering to more of the American version of mexican food. This place is kinda a mixture of that. I had El pastor tacos, good flavor, huge portion. The husband had a pork burrito, smothered in red sauce and pork on top. Very good flavor as well. It was huge. If you come here bring your appetite, the portions are huge and you will definitely have a late night snack or lunch for the next day. The servers are very friendly and attentive. I believe it is the most authentic Mexican food you can get in the whole city, sort of cheesy decor but food was pretty satisfactory for me. The meat was a bit dry, but I'll let that pass, over all good time and will be going again. read more

Major improvements from previous owners. Much more professional looking and the wait staff was excellent. Food is a "B". A little bland for my tastes with the caveat that it was a dish I don't normally get. Beers are huge! Overall happy and certainly will return. Very disappointed. They had a very loud machine for birthdays and blew it off right in my ear. It was meant for the table behind us. My ear is still ringing after we got home. When we first sat down a guy came up to our table and threw a basket of chips on it. Never said hi or hello. Very poor customer service. read more

I love Mexican food and continue to try this place. The chips, salsa, drinks are always on point. My only complaint is that the food is never super hot- and sometimes it's even cold. This isn't a one time experience, it's been a very common experience. I'll keep going back, but will always ask for my food to be extra hot (temperature wise). read more

Have never been disappointed before, we have eaten here at least once a week for the last two years. Hubby got a burrito with only 4 pieces of steak in the entire burry, portions were ridiculously small and when we asked for a manager he laughed at us. Won't be back! . read more

My wife and I had lunch here this afternoon. Service was great as expected. My wife had the Taco Lunch and I had No. 6 on the menu, which consisted of two Tacos and a delicious burrito. Was recommended by a local. Outstanding lunch. Far superior to chain food. Will likely visit again if time permits. Had carne asada lunch. More food than I could eat. Food is really good but the service is not. We stopped going to this restaurant when it was Los Amigos. But It changed ownership and got a facelift. We heard good things recently and saw the the parking lot was frequently full. So we gave it a try. We've been there four times in the past six weeks. The food is definitely really good. We've tried various dishes and like them al. Prices are reasonable. Service is.... The service is just not good. Something has been wrong each time we visited. Wrong drinks, wrong sizes. Meals delivered to the wrong table. Example, my partner ordered a 12ounce margarita. They brought a 32 Oz. Why complain? Well, it was not what she ordered. She did not want 32 ounces. We made sure that we got charged for a 12 Oz. Another time they brought corn tortillas when I asked for flour tortillas. Chicken in with my shrimp salad, and the menu says nothing about chicken in that salad. I can understand a mistake every once in a while. But not every visit. It's unfortunate because the food is really good. But we'll be heading to other restaurants in the area. read more

I have lived in Texas for many years after leaving Michigan. There are many Mexican restruant in Texas and few around Michigan. This place equals the best in Texas. Quick service, large portions, good Texmex food. Margaritas are good and reasonably priced. Price are very reasonable. read more

If you are looking for American/Mexican food, this is the place to go. Huge portions of beans and rice...enormous burritos. Absolutely quantity over quality. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce with a little jalepeno for heat. It was very bland with no cilantro or seasoning. The enchiladas had processed cheese and the tortillas were drenched in a slightly sweet red bbq flavor sauce. The tortilla chips were tasty though. If you are looking for anything resembling authentic Mexican food go elsewhere. If you want a large amount of food for a reasonable price this is the place to go. Will never go back here. Waited ten mins with zero service. 8 mins into waiting for someone to take a drink order or acknowledge our existence when they seat an 8 top. At the ten minute marker they take the drink order for the 8 top. We promptly left completely angry. I would say we had horrible service, but zero service is more accurate. Don't waste your time. Wow! What a mess! The phone never works for carry out orders and if you go in and wait, it can be an hour. I really like the salsa, but it isn't worth the frustration. I waited so long that I went to the restroom, what a mess and out of TP. They use the excuse that they are busy for everything, yet, the wait staff has time to stand around and play on their phones. By the time I left, the parking lot was so dark (it was light outside when I went in) and I had parked my car in the very back. I could not see where I was walking, so I used my iPhone flashlight, but still tripped and fell. Just some bruises and a cracked iPhone screen and not worth the salsa as it didn't make it home. In two trips, I have noted that the place is very chaotic so if I go for a 3rd, it will be awhile. They seem to have plenty of staff looking at the ratio of tables to staff. read more

I love this place!!!! Best Mexican around. You must try. The regular tacos were excellent, but the top shelf margaritas are the best around. Blows Beltline and Lindo out of the water. I go twice a week and am never disappointed. A hidden gem that is really satisfying. I love this joint!!!! We just placed a To Go Order, said would be ready in 10-15 minutes. Picked it up in that time frame. When we arrived home to dole out the meals we found the tacos ordered with only cheese had lettuce on them and the steak was mostly fat and burnt. The burritos were slimy and cold had hardly any meat, mostly sour cream and like soup inside, not good at all. So far, not impressed. Attempted to place a To Go order over the phone. Had to call three times before anyone answered. After I finally reached someone, the phone was handed off to another person. i began to place my order when I was asked to hold on for a minute. Five minutes later I hung up. I could hear restaurant background noise the entire time I was on hold. I attempted to call back two more times but the line was busy. have eaten here twice the first time was 2 weeks ago, there was a very large crowd waiting so we figured the food would be good after an hour I went to check 5 our name out! They made up for this and seated us right away overall the resturant was not that clean the staff was not knowledgeable about gluten free products that they claim to have offered and the service was slow however I gave them a 2 because the value of the food was very good we got out of there the two of us for less than $20. We went there again today later in the evening so we wouldn't have such a wait and we got seated right away however it took a very long time for the waitress to come snd greet us and take our drink order, it took even longer for us to get the free chips and salsa the restaurant was again very dirty the service again very slow as a matter of fact my food was warm when it arrived not hot like if you just been freshly prepared again no knowledge of gluten free and you could see traces of lettuce in the chips and cheese that my wife had ordered which leads me to believe they probably have a lot of cross-contamination if you are celiac gluten free I'm not sure that would recommend this place however I will say so far my wife has had no reaction to the food. Unfortunately due to the slow service and the cleanliness of both the general restaurant and the restroom I do not feel comfortable recommending this restaurant to anyone. Diner beware! read more

The parking lot was full so we anticipated a little wait, however we were seated right away. Chips and salsa were brought to our table before we had our coats off. Server was very nice and attentive. We placed our order and in less than 10 minutes we had our food. Food was excellent, portions were huge. My kids both had kids meals, my wife and I both had burritos and a cocktail and our bill was 38 dollars. All around great service and great food, we will be going back. read more

We went here for lunch. They were not real busy but service was slow and sloppy. We ordered diet cokes and were brought water. After telling the server about the mistake it took awhile to correct his mistake and bring us what we ordered. My wife ordered chicken taco's and when they came out they were beef. They replaced them with chicken and did it fairly quickly. I had a burrito and it was good, no problems. The server just not seem to pay attention to what he was doing or what we were telling him so that the main reason for 2 stars. Food was ok, not great. read more

We have been a big supporter of this local establishment and I have given them a great review in the past. We have heard very negative comments from local friends and have had one bad dining experience in the past but we had eaten at Los Amigos no less than 8 times since they opened and continued to support them and speak highly of them. Tonight we had a dining experience that left us not sure if we will ever return. We normally split one of the VERY large burritos and tonight did the same. The burrito was served on a very hot plate and much to our disappointment and concern was actually cold inside we sent it back to the kitchen. The second was hot as we should expect but was a very disappointing sloppy mess with all of the vegetables on one end of the burrito and all of the beef on the other. I said that it was sloppy and by no means was this a positive. It was not like anything we have been served at this restaurant. Our server was very attentive and did his best to take care of us, he was tipped as he should be as the problem was from the kitchen. We hope that Los Amigos gets their issues taken care of before we have another empty restaurant in our community. read more
