Good 'old Tex Mex! If you are looking for delicious and typical Tex Mex you should definitely come to the Los Tios on San Felipe. The interior is very well done, very cute touches from metal cactus sculptures when you enter, to a 2 level bar. High top seats at the entrance and a lower bar seating in the main dining room. There is also a large enclosed sun room adjacent to the main dining room. Our server Emily was absolutely wonderful, sweet & attentive. I would definitely ask for her again. We ordered a $5 "create your own" puffy queso. We added beef fajita meat and guacamole on top. It was yummy. Then I got the Meatless Special (queso puff, guacamole and 2 cheese enchiladas) and my mom ordered the Acapulco meal (crispy taco, queso puff, tamale and 1 cheese enchilada) both came out hot and tasty. As if that wasnt enough we also ordered the sopapillas. They were hot and fresh and served with honey and caramel. They are crispy and chewy and dusted lightly with cinnamon and powdered sugar. YUM! Some of the worst texmex you can find here in Houston. I live nearby and decided to give this place a second chance after the first time was less than satisfactory. What a mistake. Ordered to go last night and the first red flag, that we did not notice till we got home, was the smallest bag of chips they gave us for a queso and two enchilada entrees. My bf had to leave again and go to the store to buy more tortilla chips so we could have a proper meal. Secondly is the food poising this place gave us. My bf woke up throwing up like crazy, and I doubted him saying he had just not let his food go down before laying down. That was until I was throwing up at work within the next few hours, and had to leave and go home for the day. I am now here typing this as I am running to the restroom every hour to puke. There are so many better, affordable texmex places in Houston; please do yourself a favor and go there instead. read more

I was expecting a better meal and a better experience. We were visiting Houston from LA and searching for a good Mexican restaurant. Los Tios seemed like a nice place with great food. However, it was not a good experience. The salsa was watered downed and flavorless. My food was cold. The waiter was absolutely awful. She literally threw our plates down and had a nasty attitude. We tried to talk to her and cheer her up to change the negative energy we were sensing but nothing helped. We also heard her arguing with her coworker over which tables they were each waiting. Were in The Galleria & decided to stop & eat at Los Tios on San Felipe. We were able to sit by the window in the enclosed patio area. It has been over 20-years since we ate at a Los Tios...too easy to eat at a nearby spot. We had a great waiter! Ordered Margaritas & you could taste the Tequila! They were delish! Went to pick up takeout during quarantine and ordered a lb of fajitas. They said it would be enough for 4. It a was not. They also did not leave any tortillas in the bag that I didn't figure out until I got home. So I called to let them know I was on my way back to pick up the tortillas which they said they would tell the manager and meet me there. I get there and nothing was offered to me I need another half a pound of meat because the fajitas were not enough for four. I fully expected them to comp the meat for me having to come all the way back for the tortillas and they did not. Keep in mind that we tipped the waitress very well due to the circumstances. LOs Tíos is right next to my work and is so much fun! Full of young people. Love the decoration inside it really makes you feel like you're in Mexico. The parking is a little hard but it didn't bother me . The service is excellent. The MARGARITAS on the Rock or frozen are the best! I used to go to Los Tios , years ago, in Meyerland a lot. It is1- Tex Mex. i was surprised when they took over their new location, as it was so upscale. The new atmosphere was nice . We had a party of 8, for lunch, and I was told it was a 15 minute wait. No big deal. I had wanted to make a reservation, but I couldn't find where to make one online. We waited and waited, watching parties of 4 and 5 get seated. Our 15 minutes turned into 45 minutes. Not fun with 3 four year olds. And a 93 year old! Finally , after several nudges from me, we were seated. We had good service , but the famous chile con queso came out cold , for those of us that ordered it. We sent it back, and we got our meals about 15 minutes later. It was room temperature, but i was not sending it back again. As i was leaving, the hostess asked how it was- i said ok, but some food items were cold. She asked if a manager checked on us- he was supposed to. I answered "no". If i had been told a 30-45 minute wait- i could have gone somewhere else. I had not planned on spending almost two hours at Los Tios. We were offered chips and salsa while we waited. read more

My friends and I went tonight around 9:30, the host said it was fine to come in even though the sign on the door said closed at 9. The restaurant had several occupied tables. The waiter rushed us even though the manager told us to take our time. We ordered a second round of margaritas, which came out awful, and when we asked to have them changed the waiter said he will just take it off the bill, the bar is closed. The best things that I can say about Los Tios/San Felipe is that their location and decor is nice. That's about it. That being said...the food is okay. Then again...it is only "Tex-Mex". The menu prices for this Tex-Mex was pretty $$$. C'mon! $24 for a Carne Asada plate?!?! $60 for a "1lb" of prime beef fillet fajitas?!?! BTW...some of the most prestigious steak houses serves a prime Wagyu Angus steaks for $60 and this place has the audacity to compare their "fajitas" to them in the same way?!?! The ambience has the potential to be nice, but get a group of rowdy women coworkers, a screaming toddler, 20 other patrons, and Mexican music on overhead speaker...you can't even hear yourself think or much less carry a conversation. My throat was sore and I was happy to be in parking lot after dinner. The staff was nice but lacked experience. We asked for a spicier salsa (the salsa that came with the chips was soooo weak) and it took 3x to remind the waitress about it. She was nice but not very attentive. Overall, I feel that this place was not any different than your average Tex Mex restaurant (Taco Cabana included). The menu prices were simply outrageous due to the location I'm sure. However, if I had a choice to go Los Tios/San Felipe or any other typical Tex Mex place...I'd choose any another. read more

With excitement and a bit of timidity, my husband and I joined Los Tios during their grand opening this week. Though we are avid customers at one of their sister locations, I knew Los Tios would have to be extra special for me return because, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." With that said, our visit was an exceptional one to say the least. We were instantly greeted with smiles and offered a table. We were sat instantly and our waitress brought out our complimentary chips and salsa and gave us an opportunity to look over the menu. I ordered the Supermex Bowl and my husband ordered the Enchiladas al Carbon. Both of our plates and bowls were scraped clean. This is a traditional TexMex location but has a home feel to it. Even the surrounding staff filled our tea glasses when they were starting to get low (but never empty). We will be continued loyal customers at their sister loaction but Los Tios, their staff and managment have done an outstanding job creating a resturant worth visiting at least once a week! Alejandro took such good care of me and my drunken friends on the first day I had to come back a second day . I came alone , my friends had to much fun the night before . We have been going to Los Tios for years and not only do we trust and respect the family who owns it, the food is consistently good. Moreover, I recently ordered food from Los Tios via DoorDash. The restaurant gave the driver only one of my two bags of food, and after delivery, the DoorDash driver was not interested in helping or acknowledging the problem at all. I really wanted to like them more than the meal and experience ended up being. So overall I'll start with the good. The location is Very spacious with plenty of table options and bar seating. The decor fits well and gives it an upscale feel while still being cozy. I was greeted and seated promptly and the service from the waitress was great. She was attentive offered good suggestions and overall very nice throughout. Now the issues were fairly ranging and some definitely more impactful than others. The salsas are fairly good although not much heat to either option and the really could have used a little more flavor. I tried the chicken plate and it came about close to done without being pink but the flavoring again was nothing out of the ordinary and it really needed the compliment of guac and toppings to be satisfying. Tried also a couple of the breakfast tacos which again were lacking In seasoning. The tortillas were really the best thing about the meal overall. Now the one thing that really was under par in my opinion was the facilities. Having a little in toe it's hard enough to get them to go without having to avoid spills on the floor and overall just probably could have been a bit cleaner. Forty of my PoolPeeps from the Trotter YMCA pool aerobics classes had a fantastic lunch at this location on Wed 2 Oct. We had two waitresses, Leticia and Azucena, but honestly I thought each of our four tables had a dedicated server. Lety and Susy took such great care with us, our food, hot and delicious, arrived to the right spot, our glasses were well tended for the whole almost 90 minutes, and our checks were accurate. This location is the next to the Randall's on San Felipe at Sage. We have been Los Tios fans since the 70s and are so glad to have a location near us. The restaurant decor and furniture is so nice. Along with the plates and glassware. Love the large windows in the covered atrium area. You feel the ambiance of Mexico City when you are seated. Menu has a few new items but you will find all your favorites too. The puffy taco was very fresh. The ground beef taco was a little greasy but tasty. Love the beans and rice. Our server, Olivia was very good! We enjoyed her pleasant smile. The employees are trying to get it right at this location. Love it!
