We were looking for a good, solid, Mexican restaurant. This one is okay, not great. We went on opening weekend and had enchiladas and tacos and margaritas -- and the service was slow even though they weren't all that busy, the meat was really dry in all of our dishes, and there wasn't much tequila in our drinks. Pick one: you can have mediocre food if your drinks rock. I'd focus on improving the margaritas and the food doesn't matter much. read more

After living in California for 10 years, and moving here, we were glad to see a nearby Mexican restaurant. But then after consuming the food...disappointed. I ordered a burrito that didn't come with "melted cheese," but my burrito still came with said cheese. Ok, no big deal... but WAIT A MINUTE WHAT THE HELL is this white cheese sauce!? I've been frequenting Los Tres Magueyes in their Brier Creek location for the past 8 weeks and I honestly can't complain! The service is generally excellent. They seem to go with a team approach to serving which is helpful as long as you don't mind someone approaching your table every 8 minutes. They consistently have excellent drink specials. Decent selection of tequila and beer, as well as pretty good margaritas. Their patio is a nice touch as well and there is usually plenty of space outside. As far as the food goes, I've tried a few different dishes: Chipotle chicken: hot, smoky, smothered in sauce, but definitely great. Choripollo Burrito: um...amazing. Chorizo + chicken= chicken that tastes like Chorizo. Always a good thing. Chorizo con queso: yum x10 Chips & Salsa: good, but nothing special. Steak Picado: Definitely good, but VERY spicy which the menu warns about. Enchiladas: delightful Try not to let the negative reviews turn you away. This is a second party review. My adult daughter had a Girls Night Out at Los Tres Magueyes Brier Creek on June 5, 2014. They had a group of 11, didn't share any food. They were spread out thru the group, not sitting together. Of the 11 ladies, 5 became very ill several hours later. Sick enough they either had to stay home from work the following day or their husband stayed home in order to keep the children. They truly believe it was food poisoning since it hit 5 of the 11 diners at approximately the same time. read more

Not a bad place, rather easy to find and had a good atmosphere about it. I'd met a friend there and had the chicken nachos as an appetizer and while it was there fast, it tended to be a tad bland in taste as far as I'm concerned. The staff was very attentive and right on it but I couldn't get past the taste...was it worth bringing it to their attention? I chose not to but I will come back to give it another chance. read more

I love the bar here, the drinks, the bartenders (mostly) but the food has gone south. But mostly, what the hell has happened to the guacamole??? It resembles something out of a science project test tube and is literally gross. Last 4 times we've been for afternoon beer or margarita we find the guac inedible. Seriously Los tres - at least get this one right and start making real guacamole with fresh avocados again and stop loading it with filler or squeezing from a tube. The BEST Los Tres location, hands-down. The #1 reason that this is the best location is the habanero salsa, which we love and haven't found at any other location (for some curious reason). They have very friendly staff, great food, and a fun, friendly, and relaxed environment. Add televisions playing several sporting events and their drink specials and it's no wonder we are such regulars. Definitely try the fresh guacamole made table side. read more

This Los Trey Magueyes location has always been above average for me. There are a number of Mexican restaurants in and around the Brier Creek area but this one is, by far, my favorite. I am not a picky eater when it comes to Mexican so that may play a part in this review. If you enjoy chicken enchiladas I would suggest getting them here. They are very tasty and offer a unique enchilada sauce. Their sweet tea is very strong but also very good. Let me start off by saying I used to love going to Los Tres but it seems like in the last few months they've been going downhill. The food used to be really good now it's just ok. The prices went up in their last menu change and the quality of food has gone down as well as their service. I typically order the same thing but the last two times I've been here (sadly within the same month) they switched out beans that are part of the combination I order when I ask for a combo AND a soft taco. They assume that I want my beans switched out for a soft taco which does not make any sense. Substituting an entrée type food for a side doesn't make sense in any setting unless I specifically request it. I would have just shrugged it off but it seems like this is another "cost saving" tactic. I'm sad that this nearby favorite has gone downhill. Needless to say I am not coming back on my own accord. If a group of friends are adamant on going to Los Tres, I may try them again. read more

Our shrimp were undercooked, which is genuinely hard to do, the tortillas were greasy, and the salsa had a weird sweetness that was like spaghetti sauce. The staff was kind enough trying to fix the shrimp issue, but it took a long time because we also had no clear waiter--four separate people rotated through with no discernible pattern. Wanted to come for drinks and decided to sit in a booth with 6 people. Didn't want to sit at the bar due to the fact that we had an underage person. The waiter was obviously very annoyed that we did not order food. He never said thank you and he just had a really bad attitude. I have been going to Los Tres Magueyes for at least 15 years, starting at their falls if neuse location (which is now los tres Vaqueros--same food and staff, just new name). I've always loved their food and service. My family would scarf down an order of cheese dip impressively quick. It always felt family oriented and authentic. I live a mile down the road from the brier creek location, and I've noticed a decline in quality/taste and an increase in prices over the past two years. Their margaritas (on the rocks) are good, and their table side guacamole is awesome. Really anything other than that is kind of mediocre. I'm really sad to say it too, because the staff is so great and it used to be the best spot around. Maybe I'm just getting picky, but I'm tasting more grease and less spice and freshness. Their booths are comfortable, staff is lovely, service is lightning fast, not too loud, and outdoor seating is perfect--the trees or building shield you from direct sunlight. Parking in Brierdale can be a challenge, but they usually have some spots in the back lot. I'll always visit, but I do wish the flavor factor was upped a bit. read more

I loved this location until today. Manager sent the waitress back to my table to tell me there would be a $2 up charge for my meal AFTER my food had been brought to the table. Waitress was kind and seemed embarrassed and tried to apologize. I immediately stopped eating the free chips and kindly left the establishment. Management lost a long time customer! read more
