I wish they had given me more background information on the beautiful Siamese I adopted in April, other than she was from Puerto Rico I didn't see that her ear was tipped until after I adopted her. But I just kept telling myself there was no way this beautiful cat that adored my husband and I and never left out sides could have been part of a colony. And why would no one want her for 11 months She was doing fine until November when she suddenly was not herself. An emergency vet visit and stay determined she was suffering from feline coronavirus-unfortunately there is no way to test for this, especially the fatal FIP, which can lie dormant in cats that may have been part of colony or sheltered long term. This precious beauty left us during a second emergency visit on December 9; there was nothing that could be done. When a vet gives you a "look" when asking from whom you adopted, it's not a good thing. It took 5 years for me to consider getting another cat and now, I don't think I ever will again. While the kitten we adopted through Lost Paws is wonderful, I attribute this entirely to the person who was fostering him. When it was time to get our cat neutered, which is covered by the adoption fee, the group has ghosted me. I have emailed multiple times and received zero contact from them. It was shortly after that that the woman in charge had her house raided. Approximately 50 animal were removed, in terrible condition. I had adopted the sweetest dog, yesterday from Lost Paws. The folks , were the best. I had so many questions, which were all answered. I had received proper paperwork. The dog was spayed, up to date on shots, and was taken good care of, by her foster. The staff worked with me as I had to prepare for my new baby. Getting bowls, food and such. I was approved in a timely manner and the fee was very reasonable. These folks give there time and love to these rescues. UPDATE: Took our dog to the vet and his bloodwork came back with 3x the normal amount of white blood cells. This means he has an active infection--whether it be cancer, an autoimmune disease or something else we are unsure of yet. The rescue still refuses to take responsibility or respond to me. We adopted a kitten 2 months old and he came to us Sick back in June 2025. My sister adopted the kitten same day when she went to Petco Raritan for their adoption event. My sister described the kittens were in bad condition in their feces. My kitten had an upper respiratory for 3 months as well as Giardia parasite that didn't clear up for 3 months as well. I'm really sad to have to give this rescue one star because I think anyone who dedicates their time and hearts to volunteer on behalf of homeless or sick or neglected or abused animals are doing the work of saints. Unfortunately, my experience (or lack thereof) with Lost Paws is probably one of the reasons why so many people hesitate to use rescues. Back on November 25, 2022, I saw a young Main Coon-mix cat on Petfinder that I simply adored - available for adoption through Lost Paws. I spent the next hour and a half filling out every single question on their application as honestly and thoroughly as I possibly could. When I was finally done, I submitted it and received an auto email from "Jotform" confirming that my application form had been sent to Lost Paws and attached to that email was a PDF copy of my application. As instructed in the application form, I also called my veterinarian's office to let them know Lost Paws might be calling them for a reference. And then I waited. And waited. And waited. I reached out to Lost Paws a month later in late December and attached the PDF copy of my application to my email, just in case they'd never received it or it had fallen through the cracks. I asked if I'd been rejected or if something had happened to prevent my application from moving forward but I got NO response at all from anyone. Not a phone call, not an email, I got absolutely NOTHING. I even joined their Facebook page and sent a message to the admins asking how to find out whether my application was rejected or not, but no one ever answered me. It's now almost 2 months from the day I filled out the application and whenever I see a cat on Petfinder that I'm excited to apply for, it always seems to end up being THIS rescue which means it's a disappointing dead end. I'm amazed to see that they do update their listings all the time on Petfinder - cats I used to see in my searches are gone, and I see new babies available at Lost Paws almost every day, so someone is taking the time to update their listings. I just wonder who is adopting all these cats or dogs since they seem to be blowing off everyone who tries to adopt from them through Petfinder.org. Oh well, I tried. read more

I think they are just a puppy mill pipeline. We actually adopted a puppy from them in September, randomly coming across him at a petsmart adoption event, and then I followed the rescue on FB. It is sooo unlikely that that are consistently "rescuing" purebred desirable breed puppies like Goldens and Bernese. We paid way more for our pup than I expected to for a rescue ($800), and then they never followed up AT ALL. Most rescues are incessantly checking in to make sure the pup is ok, making sure you get them neutered/spayed, etc. I reached out to them about neutering because they told me that was part of his adoption fee and they said their vet is too busy to do it but they'll give me back $150 if I want. Something very fishy going on. I swear they are buying the last picks of the litter from puppy mills, and then reselling them at or above cost under the guise of a "rescue." We were also told the puppy we rescued was dewormed x2 and had all the vaccinations needed per his age - it didn't take long to notice the GIANT worms in his stool that very quickly spread to my other dog and cat, which was a nightmare. There's no way the rescue didn't notice them while he was in their care. Additionally, I don't like to over-vaxx my animals so I had him titer tested and he had no evidence of having had the vaccinations they said he did. read more

DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE- this is going to be long, but it's worth the read. I have been working through one of the most difficult times in my life these past few weeks because of this pet "rescue." In December, my husband and I adopted a kitten from this organization. Immediately upon seeing him at the Bridegwater Petsmart, we knew he was in poor health. He was so skinny that I could count his ribs while his tiny belly was incredibly bloated. He smelled of smoke and was wheezing with each breath. He was covered in small bald spots. When we got him home, I gave him a bath with dawn dish soap and literally peeled and picked countless fleas off of his tiny body. I left work early to rush him to our vet the following day. Our kitten Killua (FKA Geezer) had a severe case of ringworm. He was also COVERED in fleas. He had roundworm, ear mites, and respiratory issues that our vet explained were likely attributed to living with people who smoked indoors or just kept such a filthy home that it impacted his health so strongly. I was disgusted and heartbroken to hear that he had been suffering so much- especially because we tried contacting this organization to adopt him for OVER A MONTH before they got back to us. Our vet said he definitely would have died within the next few weeks had we not gotten to him. He was in disbelief that we had gotten Killua from a rescue. After the vet visit, I emailed Lost Paws to explain the situation. My husband reached out to Killua's foster father RICH BOLT with photos of the 5-inch long worms that were visible in his feces. The organization never responded to my email. Rich replied to my husband with a veterinarian's contact information. How would the parasites have been expelled from Killua's system had we not already taken him to get treated at the vet???? Why did his paperwork say he had recieved flea and Parasite treatment within the past two weeks if he was in such a state???? Over the next two months, I gave him weekly lime sulfur dips and medicated baths. I applied ointment and spray to his affected areas. He was cleared of ringworm after two months and finally ready to meet our other cats and he was so excited! Within a month, though, Killua suddenly became incredibly lethargic. His breathing was very labored and he constantly had discharge coming from his eyes and nose. He had became quite skinny in a very short period of time. We scheduled a vet appointment right away Our vet prescribed medication to treat a respiratory infection and treated him for parasites due to his weight loss. After not seeing any changes for three days, we brought him back to our vet. The vet gave him a chest x-ray, fearing that Killua might be suffering from FIP. His x-ray shattered me. There was so much fluid in his little chest that you could not see his lungs. Our vet explained that Killua likely contracted feline coronavirus, which is highly common and innocent. However- because of Killua's decimated immune system as a result of the lack of care he received from his foster father RICH BOLT and Lost Paws as an organization, he did not have the strength to fight off the disease when it began to mutate into FIP. Our vet explained that Killua was going to die in our home as FIP is so aggressive and incurable. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him to sleep after only getting to spend 4 short months with him. After his passing, I emailed Lost Paws again explaining everything that happened. I even asked for our adoption photo as it was never posted to social media likely because they knew Killua was sick and didn't want to post about a cat they knew was going to die soon. I, at the very least, expected a response apologizing for our loss and sending the photo but I did not even get that. I have still not gotten a response. This organization does not care properly for their animals and they definitely do not appropriately screen their foster families. I have adopted cats from all backgrounds and have never seen one in such poor health. I've rescued cats from animal hoarders, other pet rescues, and as 5-week old strays whose mother had been killed. NONE of this should have ever happened. This place knowingly adopts out sick animals and does not care enough to screen fosters. Several people handled Killua when we picked him up at Bridgewater Petsmart. None of them noticed his wheezing? His bloated belly? His visible ribs and spine? His multiple bald spots? His smell? I miss him so much. All I can say is that this shouldn't have happened. Please do not adopt from this rescue. They do not care about their animals and they do not care about the families who adopt their animals. I miss my sweet, beautiful Killua. I wish I could hold him just one last time. read more

Update: As if things couldn't get worse, we have found that our cat has the Corona virus, which can and will become the almost always fatal FIP. Corona is spread through feces in multi cat environments and on surfaces like clothing. Lost Paws never tested my buddy for this. This also means that it's possible that their entire population may have this disease and can spread it to other cats in your home. They knew that we wanted to bring him into a multi cat home, they knew my girlfriend had cats, but they didn't test him. I informed them of this and have gotten nothing but "you didn't bring him back in time" and "you said you were happy after two weeks". Are you effing kidding?! Not even an "I'm sorry." No compassion. I will post some response screenshots from them. The real unfortunate reality is that this disease will eventually kill my cat, slowly and painfully. He can infect my girlfriend's and grandfather's cats and their fate could be the same as his. It really is breaking our hearts. They're sadly a nightmare. Avoid if you can. I hope their organization gets better. I'm sure on some level they mean well. But they're not considerate or understanding people in the slightest. They're very hostile and treat their animals horribly. Luckily I found a very loving animal, and me and my girlfriend are very happy. But we spent months trying to work with these people only to leave empty handed and alienated. They refused to add my girlfriend to their Facebook group and eventually kicked me out, lol. But in person they allowed us to donate a few hundred dollars worth of pet supplies and food. Creepy group if ya ask me. The staff are extraordinarily unhealthy which makes me wonder, if they can't take care of themselves how are they taking care of animals. Well the truth it, they aren't. The cat I was interested In had shit all over him, and looked miserable. He was shaking and very anxious to get out of his cage. My girlfriend and I felt so bad for him we tried everything we could to give him a loving clean home. Regardless we found a beautiful cat and we're extraordinarily happy. Lost paws should most likely be shut down, what they're doing is really counterintuitive to helping animals in need of finding good homes. I recommend the SPCA. The photo I'm attaching is of the animal with shit lodged in his nose. I wish this was the only spot where he had shit on him. But he had shit all over him, stuck in his paws, all over his coat. Also the foster person "Steffy" was showing this cat off to us in a very strange manner. To prove to us this cat was in-fact a "Himalayan" (which is obvious from just looking at him), she shoved her fingers down the cats mouth and to get the cat to open his mouth she had to squeeze its jaw open. Sure if you're a vet and have to do something for the safety of the animal this makes sense. But this foster person is not a vet, and from my understanding hordes cats. Which is probably how this animal got shit all over him. Oh and the woman who chooses what pets go to where consults animal psychics.... she literally told me that after I spent an hour with her communicating on why we have a great home for a cat. She called this process "animal communication" which I was open to at first until she told me they have animal seances with this "animal communicator" Anyways tldr: the people running this organization are unfit, I hope someone steps in and shuts them down. I recently got a kitty from Lost Paws that came from overseas. When I first got him, he was understandably a bit dirty from days of travel. The rescue bathed him, flea treated him and de-wormed him for me before I took him home. He's a feisty little guy but he's getting on great in my house. I have been to many adoption events looking for my next cat, and from what I saw of the volunteers at these events, I knew I would pick one from them. I cannot recommend Lost Paws enough! I have adopted 3 cats and a dog from Lost Paws and have had nothing but pleasant experiences with each of the application and adoption processes. I mainly worked with Lyn and Kim and cannot thank them enough for not only all that they did for my 4 munchkins but also for what they do for all of their rescue animals! They were even kind enough to help take in a kitten in need that was outside my apartment when no other rescue or animal control wanted to help and despite that little kittens poor prognosis they still did all that they could to try and help that little baby. I will continue to recommend Lost Paws to friends and family looking to adopt and if in the future I ever want to expand my furry family, I will only trust Lost Paws! read more

Don't waste your time or give them your personal information. You won't hear back. My husband & I have good jobs (I wfh), are experienced pet owners (indoor, claws intact, spayed, vetted), no reason to be denied. We've applied multiple times over a month for different cats - including ones reposted and some not publically adopted at this time (over a month ago). However, at least some of these are shown to be in high-volume homes which is dramatically unsafe for the cats, which is apparent through other reviews. So chances are, we'd end up with a very sick cat down the line regardless of what we do :( I know someone reads these, which is awesome! So please, please consider: Please contact people in event of denial. It takes 5 mins to set up an automated reply system in any email suite and a fraction of a second to click a button on applicable emails to respond with the denial automated reply. You can even group them by day or whatever and then click the button once to have them all responded to at the same time. Hell, I'll set it up for free for you, no questions asked. It's not difficult and I guarantee it would improve your reviews online (because you obviously have no regard for the applicants). Large chunk of dried fecal matter in paws and all over coats and ears, of multiple and likely countless animals. Lyn has no hot water in middle of winter to bath them nor spends the time to at least sponge bath them -NO info & wrong info given on animal due to negligence/ unprofessional management of both animal, prospective adoptive families (as well as fosters giving photos and write ups on 5 dogs curtly in state and Lost Paws/Lyn can't take the time to copy, paste/ update their info to try and find them homes; but posts over a Dz. New dogs that will are not due in Jersey for WEEKS.) -Lack of making proper introductions with adoptive families cause situations where foster dogs are getting BIT by other dogs and rapidly transporting dogs is needed for safety where pickup that night or the very next day is needed and then they want to do the SAME thing a week later when ALL other rescues policy is 'dogs MUST meet' - LACK of MEDICAL Attention for their pets, as well as not knowing what treatments have or have not been given or being untruthful about it. Not wanting to pay anything to fix excitable animals that are a year old who has been with them for almost 6 months and on 3rd foster -having and leaving dogs in kennels for months on end without making attempts to find them homes or proper listed. ... Severely mismanaged. The type of rescue that makes people give up and buy from breeders. Either they don't care to get animals into homes or they take on more animals than they can handle. Will continually ignore applications but go to PetSmart and get donations. read more

I wish I could give them a zero-star rating. Please be cautious of this "rescue" organization. They do not perform vet checks before making animals available for adoption, which violates the New Jersey Pet Purchase Protection Law. It's crucial that any animal be seen by a vet, especially if they have no medical records. I was informed that my pup came with no records and didn't initially think much of it, but I should have done more research. I want to make sure others are aware. The way this "rescue" operates is very concerning; it seems like they're primarily focused on collecting as much money as possible. After filling out the application and multiple follow ups - no response, the cat I was very interested in adopting is still listed on the website. This organization is either a scam or needs to be removed off the Petfinder since they appear to be confused about their mission. Do not waste your time filling out application or reaching out to your vet or ever dealing with them. Every single review here is warranted and absolutely accurate based on my personal experience. This review of Lostpaws is not to get you not to adopt - believe me, if any pet needs adoption, it's these pets. From all the reviews I read and my own experience and the experience of a foster, these people do not seem to take care of the animals as well as they should. If you are a potential adopter be aware that you will likely get a pet that is not spayed, may or may not be up to date on vaccinations, may or may not be tested for illnesses, and not- dewormed, and may even be pregnant, which is what happened when I adopted my cat. Granted, I don't expect them to know everything about every animal they take it but they absolutely should know if one is pregnant. On my papers where it said pregnant with a question mark... the answer was NO. When we saw her in the cage, she was at eye level and we picked her up and were holding her the whole time. It was not until we got her home and were standing over her that we saw she was bulging at her sides. I should have known something was up when they said she was not spayed even though she was over 1 yr. old. That should have been a red flag. The adoption fee was $250.00 which is supposed to include spaying. Which they say "give us a call and we will pick up the cat and take it to some South Jersey vet for spaying" - I knew that was not happening. As soon as I could, I got her to my vet who confirmed that she was indeed pregnant and had worms despite having been given worm meds. I had to treat her and my other cat for worms. I had her tested for everything and we were lucky enough that the vet had an opening on Monday to get her spayed- yes, don't judge me, there are too many unwanted kittens and I was not about to give this cat back. Turns out on Saturday, the vet called me to say she was anemic and we had to do more testing and she will not be able to be spayed, as she was already high risk due to pregnancy. All those tests came back negative and she is making red blood cells so it might just be that she had some previous blood loss from worms or other parasites or just from the pregnancy and possibly malnourished. So now my only option is to let her have these kittens. Once again I had to bring her back to vet to do an x-ray to see how many so that I know what to expect. She has 6 kittens. They also said they think she was good with other cats. So far she attacked my other cat twice. We have been keeping them separate now for over 2 weeks and we will continue to keep them separate until her kittens are weaned and she is spayed, which is super stressful for everyone. Hopefully after she has these kittens and is spayed, her hormones will level off and she may be more receptive to an introduction. They can see each other through a cat door that has a screen and they smell each other when we switch rooms for them to have time with us. My resident cat is very skittish so it's hard for him to even be near her. I had to buy more litter boxes and kitten food and other supplies I was not prepared for. Thankfully, I am in a position financially to totally support my pets because I work full time and now I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to manage monitoring her and all these kittens. All in all- I've spent over $1000.00 dollars so far and have not reached out to LostPaws yet. I don't care about the money. I don't want a refund. I want them to be held accountable for proper care of the animals they take in and be honest and fair with adopters. I read all the reviews (after I adopted unfortunately) and it truly seems like most of the money does not go back to the animals. Maybe they need more fund raisers, but they need to be investigated and held up to some standard and accountability. How can we hold them accountable? read more

My experience with this shelter was awful. They do not reach out to you or get back to your inquiries. It was frustrating to never get a response and had to take going in to Petsmart to speak to someone. When I was finally able to speak to someone about my application i was told my Vet would not give out enough information about my cat at home. I understand that most of the people who work at the shelter are volunteers, it was just a frustrating experience. In the end i gave up on this shelter (and the puppy I had my heart set on to give a nice loving home). We found a different shelter and the process was much smoother! read more

My family and I decided we needed a kitten so my husband and I filled out an application with lost paws in person at the bridgwater pet smart and online. We waited and never received a response. I guess there just isn't enough rescue pets to go around. We were lucky though because we got a sweet little girl from a couple in our community instead. read more

I've seen so many bad reviews for this place and decided to still contact them when I saw a dog that I loved. I got lucky as someone responded to a comment on Facebook but otherwise they would've never responded to any emails. I messaged Elaine lacarrubba, spoke about the dog I wanted to rescue and she said my application was being looked over and they would be in contact, then radio silence. Reached out again and no response. Then saw a post a few weeks later that the dog was adopted. This place sucks and they are in it for the money, sick dogs and cats. I thought rescues actually cared about the animals but they just care about the money. I feel bad for all the dogs and cats that are in these peoples care read more
