Wonderful people to work with and they are doing amazing work! I recently adopted my first pet. The process is quite different than other rescues and shelters: you are fostering for a trial period of two weeks and then if all works out well you proceed to adopt. During the entire two weeks the foster parent & Keri check up on you and your pet and serve as resources for you both. It truly has made the transition for Coco so smooth and they all have been great resources to me.

Next Chance Rescue did an amazing job of helping our sweet Hercules find his forever home with us! We immediately fell in love with Hercules but after working through this process with Keri we were also confident that we were the right fit for him. Next Chance Rescue is doing such important work finding these overlooked animals loving and adequate homes. Can't recommend them enough for anyone looking to foster or adopt and give them the chance they deserve. Hercules was dumped at an inner city shelter and we can't wait to give him everything he deserves and more.

Erin is caring for our fur friends. I can tell she truly wants the best for them. I have found my home buddy through Next Chance Rescue. I am grateful for what they have done for these animals.

Keri is simply amazing, her love for the cats is undoubtedly shown trough her dedication to go above and beyond for their rescues. She responded to my post about a kitty my family have been feeding but couldn't keep, she came to the rescue as soon as possible. They took such good care of the kitten and got her placed in a loving home. What amazes me is, she kept me in the loop with updates of pitcures and videos which brought me to tears to see the kitten so well taken care of. Thank you Next Chance Rescue.

I am so glad i found Next Chance Rescue. My boyfriend and I adopted 2 amazing kittens from them. While i was a nervous new cat mom at first, Keri helped me with every single question and worry i had and always answered fast! As the reviews mentioned, they are truly full of love. I couldn't of had a better experience for my first time adopting 2 kittens. Thank you Next Chance Rescue !!

I adopted my amazing cat Birdie from Next Chance Rescue in the middle of quarantine and they could not have made the process any smoother. Keri was completely up front with me about Birdies "eccentricities" and made me feel really comfortable about my first pet adoption process. I could tell they truly cared about the rescues and wanted the best for them!

I adopted the sweetest boy from Next Chance Rescue. Keri is absolutely amazing. She checked in with me almost everyday to see how my little guy was doing (he is recovering from surgery to remove one of his eyes). Her enthusiasm and warmth throughout the process made it a no brainer for Bradley to have his forever home with me. If and when he needs a brother, I know I'll come back to Keri and the team at next chance rescue.

I love sleeping on mom's lap

Michelle set up a meeting with Dagny, where I met Dagny, Mary, and Dagny's foster. It was a match made in heaven. I am forever grateful. Thank you!

Wow. Where do I begin? I never thought a dog rescue could illicit such a poor taste for humanity…read more These people are absolutely wild. But I digress...adopting a dog is a huge commitment and it requires time, money, and significant thought about the lifestyle changes that such a commitment will make. My sister recently reached out to SSR regarding several dogs after researching extensively and having several chats with the team: she was advised to submit an application, so she did. She reached out to her landlord, references, and local vet to have them on standby because all previous interaction implied the dogs were available and in desperate need of homes. Ironically, 10 days later: no response from the rescue. After following up a 2nd time, we received a very short and dismissive email summarized as saying "sorry dogs aren't available. Best of luck in your search". Since the tone of the entire email was so cold and rude and unlike any previous experience we had with the rescue, we followed up saying in the nicest way possible, that it would have been nice to be looped in sooner and while we understand that they're busy and that the dogs may have happily been adopted, it would have been nice to be informed in a timely fashion so that we could plan accordingly. Apparently, that struck a nerve with SSR (unsure who since no one signs their names). What proceeded was was a series of the most unprofessional and disgusting emails I have ever seen from an organization claiming to do good for the world. It is ironic that they have had time to send multiple hateful, ridiculing, and childish emails when feeling accused of poor business practice and rude tones, but could not even reply to an application in a timely manner with something as simple as "Received. Thank You!" For more than 10 days. In said emails, the "representative" of SSR mocked my sister immediately , called her names, told her she was mentally unstable and that she should consider an emotional support pup (with the implication of good luck to the dog you bring home), as well as telling her that she would be forwarding her personal information to all other rescues in the area so that she would be unable to adopt elsewhere. I have never in my life encountered such a threatening and bullying tone from an organization who is supposedly looking out for the well being of dogs and potential adopters. Aside from mocking mental illness as a whole (which should never be used as a bullying tactic regardless of the situation), this organization threatened to send out HER PERSONAL INFORMATION and email to unauthorized parties simply because she asked them to be more considerate of future adopters time and efforts. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!?! As a quick sidebar...Let me also summarize our family dog history so you do not think we are a family of psychos who do not understand the dog adoption process. We have grown up with rescues our entire life, namely focusing on challenging dispositions and behavior issues. Our father is a trainer for rescues with behavioral and socialization problems so we have spent plenty of time loving the scared, timid, food aggressive biters, escape artists, etc, etc. I currently have a rescue from an amazing org in NYC and she is becoming a therapy dog and is now being used as a socialization pup for dogs who are struggling with adjustment and dog reactivity. We are a family that knows and loves dogs immensely. We have worked with tons of rescues and rescue dogs of all shapes, sizes and personalities, and never in my life, personal or professional, have I encountered a group of people (or simply one...tough to tell since no one takes personal ownership at SSR), more unkind, combative or rude than these. As I said, adopting a dog is a commitment and a two way street. It is work and it is incredibly rewarding. It's also a huge shame that people like this can so readily ruin an experience that is supposed to be memorable only in the most positive way. Shame on you, SSR. Especially when the world is just needing some kindness and human compassion. PS..I would love to share the entire email chain. It would be wildly funny if it wasn't so alarming that people like this actually exist.

On Day 5 of my vacation as I visited a very dear friend for the Christmas and New Year holidays, she decided to take me on a walking tour of Historic Downtown Jersey City, and our first stop was at Fussy Friends Pet Supply. Apparently, the fluffy black beast loved this place, so since he came along we had to stop in. Since it was Christmas Eve, I figured a treat or two for the little fella would be cool. I already knew he was a fan of the place, but would the same be said for me!? PURCHASE Kong Squeakair Tennis Ball ($3.99): He loved tennis balls especially ones that squeaked and he already destroyed the previous ones before his move to the east coast, so this was a no-brainer to buy as a gift. Here he was Christmas morning on my chest showing his approval of his new toy https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=PBgTVj5o1MldBroAsTKEfQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! Spot Farms Chicken Training Stix ($7.99): My friend said this was one of his favorite treats, so into my basket it went. I wasn't aware of this brand, but he liked it which was all I needed to know. Chewy Stick ($1.99): This was a purchase by default because as we walked around the shop, he grabbed this from a tray and started chopping away; you bite you buy https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0uNkvJ4hxWe1zGqsFpWigA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! SERVICE Greeted by a friendly young gentleman behind the counter, we merely planned to roam around until we checked out, so we barely needed his service. All was good. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) We walked, so this wasn't an issue. However, I didn't notice any private lots or structures but there appeared to be plenty of parking along the main drag of Newark Ave. and all surrounding streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A small store filled wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with a plethora of pet products of both well-known and small brands placed on the floor and shelves. It was a bit cramped for my liking as they definitely maximized every inch of square footage. The burning incense was a nice touch. Decent natural lighting came through the large front windows and door while minimal electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs, but chillout music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=y1uNQPunyybbD-v4KPmkfQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Temperatures were in the 40s, so I was bundled-up from head-to-toe. Otherwise, this place was totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Fussy Friends Pet Supply was cool and a nice option for your pet needs, but I felt the product inventory and selection were a bit lagging probably due to the size of the store (they were completely out of the wet food he liked). In addition, I didn't know if they provided other services such as grooming, training, and the like. I guess I was more used to the major chains of Petco and PetSmart along with some of the places in my neighborhood back in my hipsterhood. The prices and service were fine. And, it was always a pleasure to support small local mom & pop businesses like this one https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=-ENMHXDhfu0oQcQWfSt0FQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $14.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Super conveniently located off the ACE line too at Canal St. They provide all the materials and your preference and they help match you with a furry friend. They were advertising a specific pick up and drop off date for the animals for this program, but i wanted to participate for a bit longer so I called a few days before to see if they're able to accommodate. The staff who answered didn't know the answer so they took down my info and told me someone would call me back. Days passed and I didn't hear back so I had to make a trek down there to ask in-person so that was a bit inconvenient. I wanted some time to prep my home. Anyway when I let them know that I'm a beginner foster and would prefer a cat that is generally friendly with no behavior problems, they helped me match with an adorable adult cream kitty. I picked her up with no issues. They provided me with all the supplies (and more) that I'd need for my week-long foster commitment. They also provided a number that I could text with any concerns should any issues come up. My whole experience was very positive. I'm glad to see that they have now expanded their program with allowing folks to take a dog out for a walk. I've seen further Instagram posts posting about these excursion experiences, but I think you have to come early during the day as only a limited number of dogs are eligible candidates daily. I've done similar excursions at Sean Casey in Brooklyn (no appointment necessary) and ACC (booking required a few days in advance online) so I'm excited this opportunity exists here in a more centrally located place in Manhattan. The shelter also allows visitors to come and view and play with their cats. You just need to make sure you wash your hands before interacting with them. I love this but also hope this doesn't overwhelm the cats too much.

We wanted a playmate for our sweet 1 year old cat, and a friend recommended Best Friends. I came by and the staff were all so sweet and welcoming. They were super informative and encouraged me to play with the cats. During my first visit, I came across the cutest orange female (RARE!) kitten. I had dinner plans and couldn't bring her with me. I came back an hour or so later and she was in the process of getting adopted :,) happy for her but sad for me. It's ok! I just thought that maybe it wasn't meant to be. A week later, I came back to Best Friends with my boyfriend on a mission to adopt a cat. They had an additional room towards the back that housed kittens!!! There were so many to choose from. We chose Juni because she was very cuddly and had a little quirky mustache. The staff made the adoption process so quick and easy. They even provided us a care package with all the necessities (kitten litter, wet and dry food). I expressed my concerns about introducing Juni to our cat at home, and they provided a step by step guide. They even followed up 2 weeks later with our progress. The employees and volunteers here really love what they do.

They tried to say my pet needed another rabies vaccine (which lasts for 3 years) that he just got last year. I had to be the one to correct them on their false records with absolutely no veterinary experience. The vaccination he WAS due for should have been simple and to the point but of course the staff again gave me the wrong information. The woman I spoke to told me there would be no office visit fee since I had already paid for it my last visit. Two days before the appointment I get a voicemail that they made a mistake and will charge an extra $104 for an office visit on top of the vaccine. When I called to get this sorted out I was given the run around and was asked "what did the lady sound like that you spoke to"? I'm sorry do you want me to reenact her voice to you? I understand that mistakes happen but these were two big blunders on their part and the least they could have done was simply waive the office visit fee. Instead the receptionist was nasty, rude, incompetent, and unprofessional. This place is clearly going down under and hurting for money if they are trying to get you to come in a year later for a vaccine that lasts 3 years. Crooks. Avoid at all costs.
