Interesting little place...it definitely is reminiscent of Texas BBQ, where little to no focus is on convenience of ordering or seating, but instead focus is on the food. If you're not a fan of communal style eating, you're definitely going to have to hit this at the right time. BBQ is in short supply in general up in this area and this is proving to be a massively popular spot. Staff is extraordinarily nice and seem to genuinely care. I dig all of that. There is also a rewards program, if you're into those. As for me, Texas BBQ means one thing and that's beef. So, when I saw they had burnt ends, that was a damn deal done instantly. They were not among the best I've ever had, but were instead much more like tender, well-cooked brisket, not quite making it to the burnt part of the equation but unquestionably delicious. Less so was the pulled pork, which is not something I would ever get again. Ribs were also not on the docket at all, probably a wise choice until they get more space. Most of the sides were not appealing, either, though the beans I had were definitely solid. This is not what I would call a destination spot yet, but if in the area and with a hankerin' for BBQ...not a bad bet. Word to the wise, try to get the sauce on the side. There are 4 sauces and 2 variations, so hot or mild and Texas BBQ or Carolina style. The Carolina style was a huge miss for me and cemented me not wanting to go near the pulled pork again. The Texas BBQ, while better, is best used more sparingly. I didn't find either particularly spicy, but if you get the burnt ends, you could easily skip the sauce entirely, which is my plan, should I go there again. Not only very friendly, in fact, it is probably the best customer service in town, but the food matches the greatness of the employees! I had the pulled pork regular sandwich with mild sauce and Mac and cheese! So good. I also tried the potato side and, in my opinion, that is the best side. I saw a slice of apple pie but I didn't try it-I'm just glad that is an option. It's a nice hometown feel, exotically with the many regulars that come in. Amazing brisket. Highly recommend this place. They did forget our BBQ for dipping but the food was so good we let that one slid. I had to stop and try some of this barbecue that I have heard about this new place by the far west train station. So I stopped by today the minute I walked in the door I was greeted with the amazing smell of barbecue and a kind hello from the gentleman behind the counter. He told me what the specials were and the different meats he had all of it look so good I ended up doing a couple three meat dinner plates and his side dishes were amazing as well. Well dishing up my order he talked with me and made me feel right at home in his establishment. As I was checking out I noticed a row of bottles and asked him about them to find out that it was another local company down the road that makes root beer that he sells as well. He told me his favorite of vanilla root beer and so I also added two bottles of root beer to my order. I got my order I paid and was told about a loyalty program that they have that he says you buy a few dinners and once you reach a certain number he buys you one. I gladly signed up paid for my meal and was so excited to eat I ran out of the door without grabbing my bottles of root beer but once I got home to eat them the dinners were worth it. I would highly recommend this barbecue to anyone and my favorite was the pulled pork with the hot spicy Texas sauce. With the due diligence and the response by the great people of the Lost Texan BBQ about those very important root beers I am altering my rating from four stars to five stars and I would gladly take any of my friends into this establishment to have dinner lunch or just a fun get together. Do not be scared away by the new mall setting or the cafeteria line ordering. That really is how the best places in Texas serve BBQ ! Mr ordered the sliced brisket, great bark, smoked flavor. He had a side of pinto beans, which benefit from addling some barbecue sauce. He wished he had two rolls and could have eaten more meat because it was delicious. Mrs ordered the shredded chicken and you could really taste the slow wood cooked flavor. They have Carolina and Texas styles of sauce with a spicy if both, so four to pick from for your meal. This is really more like 3 and half stars for me. I had the One Meat Plate with the chopped brisket, mashed potatoes and green beans and a side of cornbread. My husband had the Texas Size Sliced Beef Brisket Sandwich with a size of mashed potatoes. The brisket wasn't bad but I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce that was on it -- it tasted a little too tomato saucy. The mashed potatoes were full of cheese and bacon and were really delicious! The green beans were full of bacon and onions and had real flavor -- delicious! Cornbread was good. The Texas Size Sandwich was huge and my husband had to take half home. There are only about six tables so the seating is limited. The restaurant was clean and the décor was fun. The service was fast and friendly. The owner was there and came to check and see how we liked our food. The experience was good for us but the sauce on the chopped brisket was disappointing for me. I recommend the shredded chicken BBQ sandwich with the Spicy Carolina sauce. The chicken is moist and I always get it with the pickles and onions. The mashed potatoes are amazing! If you are looking for authentic Texas bbq you will be greatly disappointed. I lived in Texas (Arlington) for several months and enjoyed a variety of Texas bbq. Real Texas bbq is amazing. I finally had my first experience with Lost Texan since they opened up a brick and mortar location. I had their great food awhile back from their setup at the Ogden Farmer's Market. Having recently moved near their restaurant, we decided to order take out last night and give them a try. Needless to say, the food was as good as ever. Super tender, flavorful meats, great sauce and sides and the best damn coleslaw I've had in a long time. Their location is a bit out of the way of the other centers of business in North Ogden and Farr West, but I was happy to see people inside eating and lined up for food. The food is really good, but not great. The brisket was dry but the sauce was good. My wife really enjoyed the sides as did I. The store was clean and the owner and staff were very kind and interactive. I love that this is a family owned and operated establishment, we need more of them. I think what disappointed me a bit was that the food was all kept in a cafeteria style warmer then served on Styrofoam with plastic silverware. Like a fast-food BBQ joint. You know those songs that take you back in time and space to experiences remembered as vividly as if they happened yesterday? That song for me was the Lost Texan BBQ. This restaurant in so many ways took me back to great eating experiences I haven't had all over the southern U.S., especially Texas. The wife and I just happened to be in Ogden for lunch. We always search out local BBQ places and we were not disappointed to find this Ogden gem. As soon as we walked in I was reminded of so many southern restaurants where you come in, take a tray, and pick out the dishes you want buffet style. Since it was our first time there we each got three meat plates so we could maximize our variety. I wish I had taken pictures but my hands and mouth were a bit busy. The sausages had that crunchy casing that once it was breached exploded with a perfectly done burst of juice. The pulled pork was extremely moist, something a lot of local pit masters get wrong. You should never need sauce on your pulled pork. The brisket was likewise juicy and very tender with a fantastic au jus that had a delightful smoky roasted flavor. The ribs were done exactly like my wife's grandmother, a wonderful woman who had a restaurant in Texas, used to make. So similar in fact that my wife was in tears remembering her. The Mac and cheese should be called crack and cheese and don't forget the desserts. Home baked pecan crumble and Texas sheet cake like my momma used to make. All in all it looks like our friends in Ogden are going to see us a little more often as we return to enjoy this fantastic mom and pop. read more
