Great food, really like the mashed potatoes for a side. Never thought about smoking a meatloaf. Daily specials that give you a chance to check the menu at a reduced price. Would have given 5, but sometimes when you go in later they have been more attentive to their conversation than the just walked in customer. Had this restaurant recommended to us and we are so glad we listened! Had the pulled pork and chicken, so tender and juicy. The spicy Texas BBQ sauce, so good. Twice smashed potatoes good, beans were pretty average for a BBQ side, But add enough of the sauce and who cares. Coming back on Friday for the ribs. A lot of flies and dry sausage. We went here because of the yelp reviews. I should have turned out when we walked in with how hot it was and the sides were crusty looking in the tins. I tried this place 2 years ago and wasn't blown away, but I thought the BBQ was pretty good. This visit, however, was different. I ordered one of my favorite things: a pulled pork sandwich. Unfortunately, meat was bland, so I tried a bite with all of the sauces at the table and was disappointed that none of the sauces were good to me... each sauce was way too sweet and didn't taste like any style of BBQ sauce I've ever had (I'm from a place where BBQ is almost a religion the way people take it so seriously). I found that none of the sauces enhanced the bland pulled pork sandwich enough to taste like good BBQ. Additionally, I had the mac&cheese, which was so overdone that the noodles were mush. Have to say I was very happy I made the Walk over here for lunch. I tried to 3 meat combo and I have the spicy sausage, sliced brisket, and pulled pork. And for the sides I picked, the mac and cheese and twice mashed potatoes. And of course it came with a slice of white bread. The brisket was on point the pulled pork was very moist and had a nice flavor but I have to say the sausage was a bit dry but still a very good taste with just enough spice and not overpowering. I would have loved to have tried the burnt ends but like any good barbecue place if you're not there early you are left out. Service was good I was there at lunchtime and it was very busy so I can't complain about the little bit of a wait. The owner at the register still had time to make small talk with you and yet not hold up the line. Very good customer service. I will be back next time I'm in town. read more

Outstanding! I will be back again. If you don't like all the fat on the brisket, definitely get the sliced brisket instead of the cubed. The sliced brisket was huge and outstanding. I gave four stars purely because I'm a little picky with my Mac and Cheese and I felt like the flour in the roux (white sauce) could have been cooked out a little bit more and just a little bit more cheddar to add a little more flavor. I give this restaurant three stars but due to the economy, i don't want the lower the Yelp reviews. The food is just sitting behind a plastic shield. We came in at 5:30 PM on a Friday night. This place is one of my favorites in Utah. I always stop here for lunch when I'm in the neighborhood. Brisket and burnt ends are always perfect and all their sides are delicious as well. You don't get any sweeter than the girls working the counter and the owner is usually there making friendly conversation and showing genuine hospitality. Their green beans will make any kid eat his veggies! Also I know they support lots of good causes through their business and they have diet Mountain Dew on tap! Every option was delicious and flavorful. The sauces at the table are the best. I prefer the Mild Texan sauce. Came here for lunch on a weekday. They were pretty busy which was a good sign. I decided to go with the one meat plate and ordered on the regular sausage. For the sides I did the mashed potatoes and the green beans. I loved both the sides. The sausage however was really dry. I was not even able to squeeze much juice out of it. The flavor of the sausage was ok. I'm glad they gave me some sauce to dip it in to help it slide down the pipes. I got the Carolina sauce and the other spicy one which I think she called Texan hot sauce. The second one I loved and could have drank it. I'm not a huge fan of vinegar based sauces though so the Carolina could have been great for that type. I'll give it a second try and get the chicken or brisket. The staff was friendly. read more

Sorry but this BBQ deserves to be lost and I wish I never would have found it. Smoked turkey was chewy and fatty I flavor. Pulled pork probably sat in water all day before they slipped it to me. The premium sliced brisket didn't taste smoked at all it tasted like it was from the deli not the smoke pit. Sauce was bad, beans were bad, bread was dry and stale not toasted or anything. What a fun little find while diverting 5 o'clock traffic on our way through Salt Lake! I'm not a big BBQ fan but I couldn't help but love the down home cookin and Southern hospitality! We had the BBQ Pork and BBQ Chicken with the green beans, mac n cheese and a side of cornbread! All delish and the owner(who sounds like Sam Elliott when he talks) made sure everyone was doing okay and offered to go boxes and water refills! Love this place. We have been here half a dozen times or more and I have never had a bad meal. The sliced brisket is my fave, but I really like the sausage too, but it's usually too spicy for me to eat much at a time (and I like spicy food). My husband always gets the pulled pork sandwich. My fave hot sides are green beans, smashed potatoes, Mac & cheese (in that order). Fave cold side is the cole slaw. It's so good! The cole slaw is a great sweet balance to all the salt in the meat and the hot sides. Service is also excellent; owner is super-friendly and helpful. Great beverage selection, too. Pepsi fountain with the usual stuff, plus a cooler of speciality soft drinks. read more

Interesting little place...it definitely is reminiscent of Texas BBQ, where little to no focus is on convenience of ordering or seating, but instead focus is on the food. If you're not a fan of communal style eating, you're definitely going to have to hit this at the right time. BBQ is in short supply in general up in this area and this is proving to be a massively popular spot. Staff is extraordinarily nice and seem to genuinely care. I dig all of that. There is also a rewards program, if you're into those. As for me, Texas BBQ means one thing and that's beef. So, when I saw they had burnt ends, that was a damn deal done instantly. They were not among the best I've ever had, but were instead much more like tender, well-cooked brisket, not quite making it to the burnt part of the equation but unquestionably delicious. Less so was the pulled pork, which is not something I would ever get again. Ribs were also not on the docket at all, probably a wise choice until they get more space. Most of the sides were not appealing, either, though the beans I had were definitely solid. This is not what I would call a destination spot yet, but if in the area and with a hankerin' for BBQ...not a bad bet. Word to the wise, try to get the sauce on the side. There are 4 sauces and 2 variations, so hot or mild and Texas BBQ or Carolina style. The Carolina style was a huge miss for me and cemented me not wanting to go near the pulled pork again. The Texas BBQ, while better, is best used more sparingly. I didn't find either particularly spicy, but if you get the burnt ends, you could easily skip the sauce entirely, which is my plan, should I go there again. Not only very friendly, in fact, it is probably the best customer service in town, but the food matches the greatness of the employees! I had the pulled pork regular sandwich with mild sauce and Mac and cheese! So good. I also tried the potato side and, in my opinion, that is the best side. I saw a slice of apple pie but I didn't try it-I'm just glad that is an option. It's a nice hometown feel, exotically with the many regulars that come in. If I come in town again, I would definitely come back. read more
