Popped into Lotus on a whim during a recent trip to San Fran! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was with a friend and we were seated right away and offered a host of nail colors to look through.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Shockingly, there were no tables whatsoever - never seen this before at a nail salon! Instead they have big comfy chairs, and they rest pillows on your lap for a manicure. It worked all the same to us! Since we didn't have an appointment, we waited maybe 10-15 minutes until the other customers were all finished getting taken care of. I had a gel manicure done, which also involved removing old gel polish I had on. In the end it was $50 which I thought was a really good price, especially as I figured prices in CA would be much higher. My thumb nail did start chipping a little bit the next day, but the rest of my nails have been perfectly intact since then. All in all, a good mani experience and I'd return! read more

Went on a Saturday during 1 pm and it wasn't too busy. This spot is located in the heart of FiDi and is located in an alley way where it can be easily missed. I did a walk in appointment for a gel mani & pedi. Service was great - this is not a chop shop. They take their time cutting cuticles, massage (with a hot stone too), and scrubbing. I unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience with Lotus Nail Salon. I called in for a dip nail appointment and still had to wait 30 minutes before a technician saw me. I was then informed that I would be charged $10 to remove my prior dip nails, even though most salons I've been to in SF include the removal fee in the service. I also needed extensions on just two of my fingers, since I had chipped them and wanted them to match the length of the rest of my nails. The technician told me it would be $15 to add extensions onto two fingers, which seemed to be a pretty expensive rate, given that extensions for all 10 fingers is $20. It would make sense that they charge per finger and not some arbitrary amount. [[HIGHLIGHT]]None of the technicians in the salon could seem to answer or understand my questions with the rate, so they had me speak with the owner of the phone on speaker in front of the whole salon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She was very blunt and still pretty confusing to understand.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since I couldn't seem to find a reasonable answer as to how they came up with $15, I decided not to get the two extensions to avoid further frustration. Later, I noticed technician had grabbed the wrong color that I initially selected. She also poorly removed a hangnail on my finger, which left a wound on my finger. While the dip nail ended up of decent quality, I ended up paying the salon $73 for a manicure with two nails that are noticeably shorter lengths than the rest of my hand and an open cut on my finger. read more

I ABSOLUTELY this place!!! The staff is attentive, kind, and detailed oriented. They offer ALL of the latest in nail art. I happened upon this gem while leaving the hair salon down the street. I popped in and was able to get a gel cat eye manicure and a regular pedicure. Their exquisite service was honestly the best I've ever had. It was raining, and I was wearing boots. I was hesitant to get a pedicure as the end of the night was approaching and I wasn't sure my pedicure would dry? I decided to give it a shot. They dried my toenails with a fan and heat. Afterwards they put oil on my toenails and wrapped them to avoid damage to the fresh coat of nail polish. Again, I was skeptical. Once, I left I felt like I was walking on clouds because of the way my nails had been wrapped by them. Eager to see if my toenails survived the journey home I unwrapped them and they were perfect! Simply put "Amazing!" Moving right along, my gel cat eye manicure was the best! A lot of times salons can make your nails look nice but the quality work is subpar. Not here, my nails are fire and they are evenly shaped, no jagged edges, no bubbles, and sealed at the edges (cuticles and ends of nails) perfectly. I live thirty miles away. Overall, good result. I requested their top tier pedicure, the Lotus Callus Treatment ($70). It felt like not many request this. I found out at the end that I had the Lotus Signature Pedicure ($65). As my feet are nice and smooth, I'm happy. My nail technician was super sweet, but I have a feeling she is new to the salon, and hadn't done this type of pedicure before. I was really looking forward to the massage part of the pedicure, which included a warm stone. It wasn't very thorough (kind of haphazard). The scrub and mask were the best part. I could still feel the cool mint from the mask even after I left the salon. I also had an excellent eyebrow wax. My eyebrows look great. As others have mentioned, they soak your feet in a bowl on the floor, which to me is fine as it's sanitary. The only concern for me was that even though the nail technician is primarily sitting on a low stool, sometimes she's required to crouch down (like a baseball catcher), which can't be very comfortable. Lastly, it's in a really cool location. It was fun walking down Maiden Lane, from our near by hotel, and looking in all of the high end shop windows. read more

I've never seen a nail tech work so efficiently and confidently through an extension set. The polish I chose needed 5 coats and she didn't stop until it was perfect. No cutting corners. I was going on a beachy vacation and needed a manicure and pedicure. Found Lotus when I was yelping for reasonably priced mani pedis. Made an appointment using Yelp about a week prior for Wednesday, February 27th at 1pm. I just got a regular / classic mani pedi, so it was no frills. For my feet, I did the color Purple Palazzo Pants by OPI. It was a nice, kind of lilac-y type color. I wanted something light and kinda neutral, so this color fit the bill. For my hands, I ended up just getting my nails buffed as I always ruin any kind of polish I get on my nails. For both services, I paid $48, which is definitely not bad considering the area. My usual spot charges $60+, so I'm glad I hit up Lotus instead. Nice affordable spot to get my nails did. read more

Ouch! She literally broke my little toe nail! This was the most painful pedicure ever. The lady was super rough. I couldn't even relax during the massage portion since that was also harsh. The location is convenient and they are open a little later than most nail salons so it's easy to swing by after work. That's the only reason I'm giving two stars. I had a gel manicure last week and I would not come back. The technician rushed through my nails and didn't even let the gel dry properly. The UV lamp kept turning off and I politely told her the machine turned off and my nails were not dry. She gave me an attitude and continued to rush through the rest of my manicure. It hasn't even been five days and my nails are already chipped and one of them is broken which never happens to my nails after a gel manicure. read more

Very average place for a mani/pedi. It's conveniently located in SOMA and they generally have openings if you call ahead. But not worth the $ IMO. I've come here about 5-6x and it's always a very rushed job - uneven nail filing, sloppy paint job, nail techs using their bare fingernails to wipe off excess polish (vom). The last time I came in for a mani/pedi almost every fingernail had an uneven coat of polish on it (pictures attached). Pretty disheartening given they charge $55 for a regular mani/pedi. They do a decent gel mani/pedi if that's what you're looking for. read more

My nails were perfectly shapped when i sat in the chair. When I left , i have 1/4 less nails and they looked at best average. Also, the owner is passage aggressive and had bad energy. They even let me stay as long as I wanted to ensure the polished dried. They also provided those heated fans for both my hands and feet. When ever I don't get gel it always ends up chipping almost as soon as I leave, but they made sure that wouldn't happen. They even put plastic wrap around my toes!
