We were visiting Naperville from out of town and decided to have dinner at Lou Malnati's because of its great reputation. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing--not because of the food, but because of the customer service at the front host station. Since it was quite loud inside the restaurant, we requested an outdoor table. After being seated, we realized that the table directly behind us included three men who were socializing and drinking beer. While two of them were simply enjoying themselves, one gentleman appeared to have had too much to drink and became increasingly loud, making it difficult for us to enjoy our meal. I went back inside and politely asked the host--the same person who had seated us--if we could be moved to another outdoor table. Instead of showing concern or offering assistance, he immediately responded that moving us would take a while and told us to simply wait at our table. His attitude came across as dismissive, and no one ever followed up or came outside to help us relocate. As the evening continued, the situation became worse. The loud guest eventually dropped a glass, shattering it and causing beer to splash onto another customer nearby. Even after this happened, no one addressed our earlier request to move. Our waitress was pleasant and took our order, but she never mentioned the seating issue or offered an alternative. I've dined at many restaurants over the years, and this was one of the few times I've genuinely felt ignored as a customer. A simple acknowledgment, an update, or an effort to accommodate our request would have made a significant difference. I don't believe this experience reflects every Lou Malnati's location, which is why I hope management reviews how guests are treated at the front host station. The host could benefit from additional customer service and hospitality training or terminated. Guests should never feel that their concerns are an inconvenience. In today's highly competitive restaurant industry, great food alone isn't enough. Outstanding customer service is what brings guests back. When customers feel heard, respected, and valued, they become loyal patrons. When they feel ignored, they often choose to dine elsewhere. I hope this feedback is taken in the constructive spirit in which it is intended, because I would like future guests to have a much better experience than we did. read more

Deep Dish Butter Crust Pizza half veggie/ half cheese. Early Saturday morning , slowly filling up sidewalk seating, we are inside, killing time during the power outage in our neighborhood. I'm a Malnati's regular since the OG opening in Lincolnwood, A defender of Lou's in the rapidly evolving pizza culture in Chicago and the suburbs ( all directions) just had a sad slice of reality. The third time in a 12 month period. Brand recognition will still bring customers. The table behind us complained to the server about the pizza taking too long ( hence first timers ). The server was very busy,but on top of her tables, too many for one server. Great service. My favorite pizza place to have their deep dish The Lou and add crumble sausage. The Lou is spinach, mushrooms, and Roma tomatoes. Also asked to cook it well done so it isn't so watery from all the tomatoes. I love the butter crust. The waiter cuts and serves the first slice and if nearby they can help with cutting another slice. They make it look so easy, but I struggle to cut the slices. We also tried their Italian beef sandwich with fries. They offer sweet peppers and Giardiniera. Was really delicious with so much melted mozzarella. We came on a busy Friday night. Parking was difficult to find but we managed to find one along the street. Downtown Naperville is quaint. This particular Lou Malnati is the nicer one in Naperville. It's in an old firehouse. The theme is on point! The wait was going to be too long so we found a spot at the bar. Bartender was very nice. We weren't too hungry so we ordered a personal pizza to share. I got a 0%alcohol beer. The pizza took 30 minutes to come out. The crust was strange. It was like there was too much corn meal on the side. I can't place what's wrong with it except I had Giordanos deep dish pizza and the crust was really good. For the record, I love Lou's, it's probably my favorite pizza in the world, etc. But this location was a disappointment. I think they just can't handle take-out orders when it's busy. I ordered a standard "The Lou". No modifications. Website quoted 35 minutes. It was a Saturday night, so I figured it would take longer than usual. I got to the restaurant about 45 minutes later. No parking anywhere and the place was an absolute zoo. People everywhere. Entire entryway swarmed. Finally I made it to the host stand and they seemed overwhelmed. Two people worked together to find my pizza in the system. It would be another 10 minutes. No place to wait, so I just went outside and waited at the curb. (Incidentally, they have a big heated outdoor patio but I guess they don't actually use it in the winter, since it was closed off while people waited for tables inside.) 15 minutes later, I was still waiting. Went back to the host stand. "It's almost ready." Another 10 minutes of milling around awkwardly, people everywhere, no where to sit... Finally a manager brings me the pizza. I get it back to the hotel and it's soggy. Not even greasy, just wet. Barely any distinctive Lou's flavor. Obviously I ate it. A soggy Lou's is better than most other pizza. But man was it ever a disappointment. And the frustration of spending a half hour at the restaurant milling around didn't help. Plus all the feral teenagers blocking the sidewalks and the crazy parking situation... Maybe I'm just getting old but when I order a pizza, I want to pick it up exactly when it's promised, with easy parking, and I want it to be delicious. When in/ near Chicago you gotta try deep Dish pizza. The two different pizza restaurants to try were Lou Malnati's Pizzeria in downtown Naperville (which is super nice). It was packed, smelled great and looked like it was in an old firehouse which was cool ambiance. The service was friendly and we waited about 20 minutes for my wife and I to share a Chicago style deep dish pizza. The pizza was great and the cheese melted and gooey. ** Carry Out Review ** This Lou Malnati's is located in the heart of downtown Naperville. They do have a designated area for carry out orders which also has specified parking making it easier for customers. My husband ordered via the website and it was easy to navigate. Our order was ready by the estimated time and our food was correct. We had a medium deep dish Lou. It was flavorful, cheesy and oh so good. The 1 thing I wish we could change is how fast the crust begins to get soggy from being in the pizza box. Our Server came over to ask how's our food tasting, provided water and napkin refills were accessible. When The Malnati Chicago Classic arrived, we observed only one inch thick butter crust that was filled halfway. Liquid from the tomatoes saturated the top of the deep dish pizza. Italian sausage tasted bland. Chicago deep dish pizza lacked seasonings. While Lou Malnati's are known for their butter crust, I didn't experience the crispy, flakiness. The service was great and our waitress was very friendly. There are various rooms dedicated to claw machines and pin ball games and a large, clean seating area. Penne Al Malnati- Very standard pasta dish. Not much flavor or depth, just lots of cheese. The sauce was nothing special and the beef didn't stand out enough for me to notice it. The Lou- I came mainly for the famous Chicago deep dish pizza. However, the pizza slice was also mediocre and the vegetables saved the lack of flavor. The menu claimed the crust had garlic, but I did not taste any garlic either. Despite the kind waitress, I would not come back. We have been bringing out-of-town guests here for the past 15 years, at least. It's our favorite branch of all the Lou Malnati's we've eaten at. We learned last year that the company is no longer owned by the Malnati Family, but by a corporation; and the restaurants are franchises, not consistently good. Sure enough, when we brought guests to the one on Roselle Rd. in Schaumburg, only the famous salad was good. The pizzas we ordered lacked the delicious tastes we had bragged about. Picked up a carryout deep dish cheese pizza for carryout. Ordering via the app, the estimated ready time was pretty accurate. The pizza tasted great as always. I also really like their thin pizza which I've had many times. But the reason why Lou Malnati's will never be my favorite pizza is that they use crushed tomatoes which sometimes leaves bits of tomato skin and core in the sauce which I really don't like. I also really like and would recommend ordering garlic bread with added mozzarella cheese rather than the 3 cheese bread. For picking up a pizza to go, there's a separate entrance door on the side of the building exclusively for carryout. First time having deep dish pizza and I had 2 different types. The Hot Honey Deep Dish was absolutely delicious! Great flavor and balance of ingredients, I really enjoyed it. The Lou Deep Dosh wasn't my favorite. It tasted a bit bland to me and the piece I got had some uncooked dough in some parts which made the texture weird. The wings were pretty good but the salad was a great mix of flavors! Our server was great, she was attentive and stopped by to check in multiple times. We pre ordered as they suggest on the website. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes, I finally got a person to take our preorder. When we got to the restaurant, the preorder ticket at our table was all wrong. We got the servers attention and she put in the correct order but we had to wait 40 minutes for our pizza. Then when she brought the bill, she said she discounted the wrong pizzas, which we never got anyways. Horrible customer service. The server was nice and not her fault. My family and I had a wonderful time eating their delicious Caesar salad and their classic deep dish pizza, oozing in cheese and sausages. The vibe of the establishment was great for our large family gathering, and staff was accommodating by seating us near each other so that we can talk and pass food around the tables. Love the deep dish pizza here! I've tried deep dish at some other chains but this one is the best. I didn't know Lou has other locations as well. The one on Jefferson Ave is the one we always go to and love the location as well as the food. We usually get the Lou pizza - their standard vegetarian pizza. The crust is one of a kind and I can't get enough of it. Spinach bread is a pretty goo appetizer. We got the Malnati salad recently and really liked the slightly sweet dressing. It was my first time trying a deep dish pizza in Chicago and it definitely hit the spot. We ordered a create your own deep dish and they did not skimp out on any toppings! The pizza was good but the service was probably the worst I've ever experienced. They have kids working everywhere, most of whom seem more concerned with talking when they have downtime than helping their co-workers when they are swamped. Our server seemed like a good guy who got hit with 5 tables at the same time. He seemed to struggle with running someone's credit card for quite awhile. At some point one of the handful of employees should have taken notice and stepped up to help him. I placed an order for a deep-dish pepperoni pizza for delivery at 5:45 p.m., with an estimated arrival time of 6:58 p.m. After two hours had passed with no delivery, I called the store, and the employee was unable to provide any information about the status of my order. At 8:10 p.m., I finally received a thin-crust vegetable pizza--which was cold and clearly not what I ordered. When I contacted the manager, she offered a series of excuses. Her tone was dismissive/annoyed, and she failed to acknowledge the store's responsibility. While I understand Saturdays can be busy and weather can affect operations, there was no communication about delays and I should not have to wait another 2.5 hours. I wasn't calling to complain about timing initially, but her lack of accountability and attitude made it into a problem it shouldn't have been. Customers do not want excuses--they want accuracy, accountability, and basic service. A simple, sincere response such as, "I'm very sorry. I'll refund your order, have the correct pizza remade immediately and picked up first," would have gone a long way. Instead, I was told I would receive a refund and a replacement pizza, but it was followed by yet more explanations about delays. I was on the phone for no more than 5 minutes and the replacement should have been put into the kitchen at 8:15pm. I am still waiting for the refund... I asked to be notified when the replacement pizza was picked up. The manager stated it would take 35 minutes and that I would be prioritized. If it was put in right away I should have gotten a call around 8:50. At about 9pm--with no call--I had to follow up again. The staff could not tell me where the driver who was supposed to pick up the pizza was or provide an ETA. I was also told the order wasn't entered until 8:27 p.m., almost 15 minutes after my call to the manager, with no explanation for the delay. The manager argued with me and continued to assign blame elsewhere, which was unprofessional and frustrating. it is not the customer's fault that she failed to properly staff the operation or ensure the pizzas were marked. She said it was coming out of the oven now (at about 9:05) and waiting for a driver. I went to bed, tired of waiting. I finally got a call that it was picked up at about 9:25 which means it sat there waiting for a driver for 20 minutes. Texts indicate that the second pizza appears to have arrived around 10 p.m. (No wonder the pizzas are cold, taking an hour to get from the oven to the customer) long after I had gone to bed, and it was still sitting on my doorstep the next morning. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've had issues with this location. Orders are frequently incorrect or delayed, and this most recent experience was the final straw. I don't think I will be ordered from this store for a long time. After so many years of pizza delivery being a simple, established service, it is disappointing that this location consistently fails to get even the basics right. When we entered, there was a weird smell that almost made me want to leave but I was the only one who thought it was that bad. After a brief wait, we were seated. We ordered a large deep-dish pizza with sausage and pepperoni. The menu states that the large serves 4 but I would argue that it serves 6, I was disappointed by that because we had so much pizza leftover. We also ordered a house salad and added cheese with ranch dressing, it was delicious.
