The restaurant is not very fancy for the food they sell. It was not very bright and the tables, furniture, looked old. As for the food, we had quite a off experience where the appetizers were really bad so we were worried for our special dinner: aranchini was too sweet and had a weird aroma. Wedge salad was literally half a romaine with ranch dressing and some pork belly bits. HOWEVER - the main entrees were all AMAZING. We were mind blown. We had surf & turf, chicken parmesan rigatoni, scallop risotto, and miso glazed salmon. They were all spectacular! I would definitely go back and just skip appetizers Oh they also weirdly had a lot of ingredients missing that day so we couldn't order bunch of menu items or desserts but i think that was just a one time thing where they did not receive their shipment. read more

We had dinner last night and really enjoyed it. The space is cozy and intimate, with beautifully set tables that immediately set the tone. It's BYOB, so we brought a bottle of red. The food delivered. A fresh, well-balanced salad to start along a rich lobster bisque to start. The boom boom chicken (big flavor, nicely done), and sesame-crusted salmon that was cooked just right. I have now been here several times and I love it just as much each time! I was recently disappointed to see they took the scallops over risotto off the menu and changed the scallops to a meal with mashed potatoes instead. I will try another meal next time but I raved about the scallops over risotto to friends and family who have come here since just for that meal. I will say the last time I was here and figured out they changed the menu and told our server I only came there for that meal, adding in that this server I've had a few times before and at this point I am known to frequent this restaurant, they for a one time only made the scallops over risotto meal for me. My night was made. That was very nice of them to do and for that I am upping my review to five stars. However, I'd love for the scallops over risotto to be back in the menu. Tried Louie's for the first time. My first impression was the Ambiance was okay. They keep the lights dim to hide the faults of the old building. It was clean. The menu was expensive didn't expect it to be that high. But that's fine if the food backs it up. We ordered the potato soup special. It's tasty and it had the slab bacon cut up inside. That dressed up the dish. Smokey and creamy. They served warm bread with whole roasted garlic. Awesome if you love garlic. Entree 1 was lobster ravioli in a roasted red pepper vodka sauce. It was good. Just not sure if I'd pay that much to have it again. Entree 2 was a grilled salmon with mango salsa special. Everything was great except the salmon. Very happy to come back here! The service was fabulous when we walked in and we were checked on frequently throughout the night. Our waiter answered any questions we had about the regular menu or verbal specials menu. When you walk in, we were greeted and sat right away because of our reservations. It was very easy to make reservations for that night. We ordered the shaved Brussel sprout salad from the specials menu. It was really good but I would say this time an under dressed. I had the same salad a few weeks ago and it was perfect. For my entree, I ended up getting the crabcake starter which was really good. It was a nice size crab cake. I finally made it to Chef Jason's new Robbinsville restaurant, Louie's, for lunch this weekend. I was a big fan of his Cranbury location. Although, Robbinsville does not have the same ambiance as the former Cranbury restaurant, the food here is still top-notch. My husband ordered the Cheeseburger and I went with the Chicken Marsala lunch special. The fries accompanying the burger were fabulous and he enjoyed his burger. The Chicken Marsala was absolutely delicious! I substituted vegetables for pasta and the portion size was generous, with no upcharge for the substitution. Our server was very pleasant and our food came out quickly, but outside of us there was only one other customer. Louie's is certainly a new restaurant to put into your rotation of places to eat in the area. read more

Pros- the staff was attentive. The ham was delicious! Cons- when we first sat down we learned that there was no lemon for the water. I was under welcomed with the turkey and extremely unhappy to find out there wasn't any cranberry sauce!! Thanksgiving just isn't complete without cranberry sauce in my opinion. Also, as someone who detests vodka sauce I was quite unhappy to find out that I couldn't get any other type of sauce on the pasta/ not even a basic marinara. I think a wiser choice would've been yams instead of pasta altogether. At the end of the meal we learned that there was no pumpkin pie...only apple. It was like the cranberry sauce as over again! Great meal and dining experience from start to finish. The gentlemen that took care of our table were timely, friendly, and great at servicing our table. The food was amazing - enjoyed the Braised boneless short rib which was so tender you could glide a fork through it and it melted in my mouth. The risotto was not only perfectly cooked but one of the best I have had. My coworker had the Seafood Fra Diavolo and loved the fresh and tender shrimp with exceptionally cooked linguine. I started with the Mexican corn chowder soup which was a combination of corn and peppers pureed. The poached pear sacchetoni was out of this world! All desserts are made in house. Lemoncello cake was so yummy! A definite local gem. The owner is very welcoming and the service was excellent. My wife and I have been here for dinner once and lunch twice, and we really enjoyed ourselves! First, the restaurant has a reasonably large parking lot, so it should be pretty easy to find parking at most times. In general, the staff are decent but it does sometimes feel like they're a little absent. For example, two out of three meals, I walked in and had to wait around for a minute or two for someone to pay attention to me. There should really be staff at the front of house at all times, you know? Especially during normal meal hours. Similarly, the servers do a decent job but I wish they checked on water refills, etc. more frequently. Maybe they need to hire more bussers? I also have to agree with some other reviewers that the decor is not great, although it's not hideous or anything. I'm sure they'll spruce it up over time! The reason why I gave the restaurant 5 stars is that the food is delicious. The short rib (sandwich for lunch or entree for dinner) was tender and tasty, and the bread pudding was an awesome dessert (even though I kind of regretted eating it because I was so stuffed, haha). I got the Boom Boom Chicken most recently and it was very good but I think I'll stick with the short rib next time :) Overall, this is one of our favorite restaurants in the area, and we'll definitely be back! read more

We ordered the Brussels which came floating in a pool of sweet syrup sauce that destroyed the dish; one tenth would have been the right amount. The seafood Fra diabolo had no spice at all, the pasta was dry and overcooked even though there was a lot of it. The only thing that was good was the Bottle of wine we brought. Went here for Easter Sunday dinner 2024. I had rack of lamb. It was cooked to perfection, but I was surprised to hear that there was no mint jelly. The accompanying asparagus was overcooked. Service was slow. I'll try it for lunch, but they need to polish things up a bit. read more

Located in what was the former Shrimp King on Rte 130 Northbound in Robbinsville, NJ, Louie's by Chef Jason has a terrific menu of what is billed as "redefined American Cuisine", what I might call "upscale comfort food", with selections for most every taste. In the spirit of farm to table, some current seasonal selections include Braised Boneless Short Ribs with Wild Mushroom Risotto (tied with Short Rib Mac 'n' Cheese for my personal favorite); Day Boat Scallops with Smoked Slab Bacon and Saffron Risotto (my wife's favorite); Crab-Stuffed Shrimp with Street Corn Risotto; a 16-oz French Pork Chop with Brussels Sprouts and Mashed Potatoes; and Swordfish Cioppino with Spinach and Roasted Potato. Plus, a wide selection of appetizers and shareable. Service is friendly, and the food even better. And ample portions warrant a take home container, unless you happen to be *really* hungry! I've now eaten there a couple times; have ordered takeout; and even had them cater an event for 40-some people, and I've been *very* pleased each time. First visit and it did not disappoint. We were seated at the front of the restaurant by the window which I would highly recommend. Although the dining area was full it felt more open sitting by the entrance and windows. The meal began with delicious bread with whole cloves of garlic. It was just the right amount of crispy outside to soft inside and overall flavor to provide a good start to the meal without making you feel stuffed. We ordered two appetizers. PEI mussels were cooked in a delicious broth which was worth asking for more bread to soak up its deliciousness. The octopus appetizer could have almost been a meal by itself with its paring with white beans, olives, and arugula. The octopus was seared grilled just right. The pork tenderloin was cooked to tender perfection. The richness of the pork belly paired so well the flavorful spices of the chorizo and the crispy yet succulent Brussel sprouts. I will be enjoying leftovers since the portion size was very generous The Filet Oscar was a perfect balance of well cooked meat, savory crab cake, and delicious sauce. An expresso ended the meal as there was no room for dessert. Although there were options made in house which were tempting. Overall great meal at a restaurant within 10 min of our house. We keep seeing the rave reviews online. Went with my co-worker last night and was not disappointed. We did make of reservation which I do suggest. It was quite busy for a Tuesday night. Where we sat wasn't the best. We had a view of a bright doorway which looked like it led to the bathrooms. They either need to hang a curtain or put some kind of door there to distract from the bright sterile looking hallway. Our servers were very nice and attentive. The bread that they serve is amazing. It's excellent Italian bread in oil with whole cloves of garlic on top. Definitely worth splurging the calories on. The menu looked amazing. But we heard the specials and decided to go with them. Ended up getting the sweet and sour shrimp and sea bass. The entrees were very good, although the sea bass was a little drier than I prefer. But still very good. We definitely want to go back again and decided we'll stick to the regular menu. Would love to try their boom boom chicken, calamari or the steak Don, which I've heard is very, very good. We were told about a fairly new and very good restaurant in Robbinsville serving farm to table fare, so we investigated! After all, we live in the Garden State (and Chef Jason makes full use of it)! We've been there twice, so far. It is a rather small, casual BYOB (which is fine with me, as we like to bring a good wine and not have to overpay!). The staff is first class and very friendly. Both times we were there, Louie himself greeted us at the door. Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Chef Jason, as he was extremely busy in the kitchen! One of the waiters, Garret, is very personable and we chatted with him for a while. I particularly like that it is unique in its eclectic offerings. All the meals are cooked to Chef Jason's take on the dish (and he is very good!) He is doing his own thing and it really works! For example, Arancini, that is Italian rice balls, stuffed & coated with breadcrumbs and then deep fried, are usually with red sauce. Instead, Chef Jason serves them with a squash puree that is absolutely delicious! The first time we were there, I began with the Mexican Street Corn Bisque (charred corn, poblano pepper, petite greens), which was wonderful, and Jon had the very tasty Lobster Bisque. I then ordered the Chicken Cacciatore, which was pleasantly different! It was in white wine with very generous chicken portions, the sauce had a extremely nice taste. I couldn't finish that night and took it home for the following day! Jon's main course was the melt in your mouth Braised Boneless Short Rib (wild mushroom risotto, spinach, truffle scent, bordelaise), which I tasted. And that is exactly what I had the second time around! I loved it! For his second time entree Jon had the Surf and Turf special (8 oz center cut filet mignon, lobster tail, julienned vegetable, whipped potato, browned butter, herbs) which he said was perfect! Both times there we ordered the side of Brussel's Sprouts (smoked pork belly, cherry pepper jam) because it is soooo enchanting! First time trying Louie's. If you want an amazing steak, this is your place! Chef Jason knows how to cook a steak! Our server was very attentive and super nice! No ice, what restaurant has no ice? This place does not. You get your water from the tap, that's it. The pork chop was good, nicely cooked and moist. The Boom Boom chicken was just what it really is chicken parmesan with pasta and vodka sauce, so why call it anything else. Lastly everyone around here knows what this building was before this restaurant. However, the musty smell of the old establishment still somewhat remains despite some new paint and modern fixtures. The service was attentive and it appeared this would be a very light evening for the staff. If you happen to be diabetic there is really nothing on this menu that falls well on the glycemic index. This will not be a first choice for me in the future. Four stars is too much three is based on the pork chop alone. read more
