Been hitting the town of Cranbury recently to just get out of Dodge and this place continues our streak of great choices. Blue walls creates a cool atmosphere (much welcomed on this hot day). The staff all seemed to rotate their responsibilities (like Trader Joe's) and all were proficient in their work. The lightly marinated vegetables which came with some bread (gratis) were a special treat and a surprising "welcome" to our meal. We shared the eggplant rollatini appetizer - delicious. First, we were greeted and seated quickly, served water and the waitress took our orders after explaining food preparations and favorites. Before our food was served, the waitress Broussard a plate of very good marinated vegetables. The pasta carbonara and calamari were wonderful. The main courses were grilled salmon and chicken franchise were very good. No room for dessert though the dessert tray was inviting. Very good restaurant. Casual dress. Superb food. The food was great, but what really swayed my rating further upward was their stellar service. Our waitress (didn't catch her name but the check said Sasha!) was outstanding! My husband and I came in with our three littles to celebrate our anniversary - yes, it was absolute chaos but her calm demeanor and welcoming personality made our experience so much more enjoyable. Anyone with children knows how hard it can be but everyone was so accommodating!  For food, we were huge fans of the Contadina pizza - best artisan pie we've found in years! The rigatoni alla vodka was delicious - saucy just the way we like it! Our waitress brought out a huge tray with a display of desserts and there were an array of treats to choose from. .. truly something for every sweet lover.  We've added Tony's to our list of repeat restaurants! Hey, just dined at Tony's open kitchen in Cranbury and the food was amazing as well as the service. The owner really knows how to make some traditional Italian food. I've ordered takeout from them many times, the food is always on point . Tonight I dine in and the service was exceptional. I've gone here twice. The food is excellent. The Pizza's always spot on I always get the plane with the pep. The service is awesome. Everyone's happy, smiling and the atmosphere and ambiance is excellent. It's like a upscale sports club, but not so upscale. You feel uncomfortable. Period every age can go. Tony's Open Kitchen is a great Italian addition to the neighborhood. I recently went to dinner her with a group of 10. Everyone enjoyed their food. The pasta entrees were a hit and the Regolare Pizza was great (ohh.. that sauce). The service was fast and efficient. I ordered then eggplant parmigiana, which was awesome and a plentiful portion size. I liked the fact that it was not deep fried, but instead lightly battered and baked. The accompanying vegetables were all so flavorful and delicious. The complimentary bread was hot, fresh and tasty out of the oven. It's a BYOB, so that's a plus. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other entrees. Note: They charge 3% for using a credit card and will only do up to 3 credit cards per table. That created a bit of an issue with 10 people, since not everyone had cash on hand. read more

I have passed Tony's (Scotto's) many times and finally decided to try it with some friends. It's in a new strip mall and the outside entrance of the restaurant looks small but it's very open and spacious inside with ample outside dining. The open kitchen gives you a nice view into what's cooking and the entire staff are very welcoming. Once seated, they brought complimentary fresh focaccia with grilled eggplant- very tasty. We ordered pasta, chicken dish and pizza - all were freshly made with ample portions. Will come back to try more of the menu items and eat outside on a nice evening. We also enjoy the other Scotto's on Rt 33, which is very popular in the Monroe area. read more

I noticed this place when I searched Hot and New Restaurants on Yelp. We came for a family lunch and we all enjoyed it. The spacious and newly opened place was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon. There is even a patio when weather and crowds permit. We ordered 2 salads, a pie called a la Tony, and the baked zitis with sausage and meatballs. The salads were huge and well prepared, sorry no photos but the farro and veggie salad were both enjoyed. I concentrated on the pie, the ingredients were onion, garlic, mushroom and artichoke, I requested well done and was very happy with the results. This is grandma style and perfectly crisp on the entire bottom. I loved it. My uncle enjoyed his pasta dish, perhaps the meatballs more than the sausage. And they were a generous portion too. Customer service was friendly but unsure. I think some servers were new and were not at all familiar with the menu. There were a few hiccups but nothing major, and not in the food quality. I'd definitely return to try other items, but would likely order another pie. read more

We enjoy eating at Tony's from the wait staff to the quality of the food. The dinners we've had are flavorful. Sometimes we go simple and inexpensive with a shared salad which is more than enough for two along with a personal pizza which again is enough for two. We have dined here multiple here, multiple times, as many as 10 people, and as few as 2. The service has always been good, and the food has been much better than many local restaurants. I have had meat dishes, pasta, pizza( their personal pizzas are great.) The owner is in kitchen, and circulates thru the dining room. For a local place, it is accommodating and consistent. I feel horrible to have to write a bad review but felt it was needed. We went for business to this place and it was our first time, and sadly will be our last. Service was slow, and the waitress's seemed clueless on what to do. They didn't check on us to see if you needed anything or drink refils. In addition, the quality of the food wasn't enjoyed. If this is supposed to be an authentic italian restaurant, i am sorry, but you guys need to revisit your dishes and how they are prepared. The chicken was tough and chewy, with a horrible taste. We came here after receiving poor service at Zinna's. The food was excellent as was the customer service. The host, waitress and chefs were all professional, bt personable. Their main objective is to keep the customer happy. We brought friends (from Nashville) last week and again they delivered wonderfully! Thank you. An underwhelming experience from the start, when we were told the kitchen was out of butter. For apps, we had the calamari, which did not have cherry peppers (as indicated on the menu) and mozzarella in carrozza for appetizers. Both were served significantly over cooked and under seasoned. For entrees I ate the veal piccata. Sauce wasn't bad, but it was a little gooey for my taste. I was also confused by the choice of vegetables served with the dish, as sweet potatoes did not complement. Dish just seems lazy. Vegetables were under seasoned. My husband got the veal parmigiana with penne. Pasta was over cooked and bland. Veal was cooked well. Everything was under seasoned. UPDATE: Our second trip to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The fried calamari was spot on, and the Contessa white pizza was out of this world. The Contessa may have been the best pizza I've had since relocating to NJ. Julia our waitress was very pleasant, and Tony the owner was very cordial speaking with us at our table. This was our second visit to Tony's. We decided to return to try the pizza even though our first visit there was very disappointing. There were 6 of us including 2 kids. We arrived and were seated right away in the relatively empty restaurant. The very pleasant server asked for drink orders (coke and water) and then described specials. We opened the beer we brought for two of us and then the server asked for our orders. We started to order pizza and she said " we don't have pizza today". They were short handed so no pizza. No sign on the door. Didn't tell us when we sat down. Didn't tell us when told us the specials. One entire side of the menu is pizza. We left having to leave opened beers. We will NOT return. They did not charge us for the 2 sodas we did order but small consolation. Went down the road to Cranbury pizza for less expensive pizza and salads. read more

Very disappointed in the food. First we had a margarita pie as an appetizer the sauce tasted like tomato soup sauce. Then I ordered a special of salmon and mussels with the same tomato sauce. Half the mussels were not open the ones that were full of sand. My friends had eggplant rollatini that came out warm and dry with the same pizza sauce as my dish. As that wasn't the end after coming I was sitting on the bowl for two hours. read more

Definitely a "must try." My daughter and I went there over July Fourth weekend. We were greeted, seated and served by Sophia who was fantastic and provided excellent service. We had the buratta app special which was delicious, my daughter had the ravioli which she couldn't stop raving about and I had the Branzino Acquapazza which came with a very nice sized filet and an incredible sauce. Four of us had a nice dinner at Open Kitchen. We started with calamari which was good but not crispy enough. Not rubbery but not crispy. We also hated the stuffed long hot peppers wrapped in prosciutto. They were excellent. Also shared an arugula salad which was big and very good. For dinner I had chicken parmigiana (which is my go to first dinner at a new place) it was very good. Thin and crispy with spaghetti cooked perfectly (finished in the sauce not boiled with a spoonful of sauce on top. My wife had the salmon special and enjoyed it. The other folks had mixed seafood on pasta that was good also. The service was excellent. Our server(Katie?) was attentive but not annoying. We brought wine with us and made for a nice meal. The restaurant is nice but needs to fight the pizzeria feel if they want to have a big eat in dinner crowd. The acoustics are not optimal. Polished concrete floors and lots of windows to bounce sound. Pricing is what we would expect, $130 for the four of us. Overall very nice meal well prepared and served. The food here is excellent! We ordered the salmon and shrimp risotto with a lemon sauce and it was exquisite. The pizza regolare is simply the best pizza around. Fried squid was the best I have had in years-very fresh and juicy/tender. The desserts are hard to resist- grandmother's cake, chocolate cake, tartufo -all delicious. Portions are gigantic!
