We have been going to Louie's for years and still love it. It is our go to place for dinner on Friday nights. Great margaritas but they are strong so be careful. Anything with the brisket is great as well as the enchiladas and fajitas. They also do a really good burger. We've always had wonderful service and love the friendly wait staff. I just had to submit my opinion after reading the last review. this place has great food and nice people. Unless I have an awful experience I always like to give a place another chance. Not the case here though, I've had great food and service the three times I've been there (I tried their burger the last time I was there and it was one of the best I've had in a while!). As a business owner I know it can take a little time to iron out the kinks. Until you open your own be a little lenient on the new businesses as long as they seem to be doing their best. My wife and I joined another couple along with their toddler for dinner here the other night. Mixed reviews hadd me nervous and In the end this it was a mixed experience. I will starrt by saying that it was our mommy friends birthday and so I didn't want to spend the vening critiqueing or asking her to critique her food, so this review will be based on my food and mine and my wife's food. For the record, our dinner companions had neither positive or negative things to say about the experience. So, let's start with some pluses: Us guys got their first and were happy to see a full-sized bar. he bar is "sports bar" sized (though this is definitely not a sports bar. The draft selection is poor, but not unusual for a mexican restaurant in Columbus: Modelo, Bud Light, Bud, and Tecate. My buddy had the Modelo, while I had the Margarita (Grande). The Margarita was good, a bit sweet, but good, could have been stronger. I specifically asked for a Cuervo margarita (more about that later). Margarita: B+ Let's talk ambience. When I heard "Latin Fusion" I was thinking,, swank and lighting and maybe some slick furniture, etc...not the case. Louie's is "plain ol' cafeteria decor. Metal stacking chairs, and compressed board tables. No tableclothes or design features to the room, just tables and chairs (with about 3 or 4 booths along one wall). Ambience: D Food time. I ordered the Chicken fajitas. Admittedly, I was not finding alotof stuff intereting on the menu so I went with an old standard. I order CHk. fajitas just about every time I go for Mexican. It was served on the sizzling skillet as expected. It was served with corn tortillas, which is a little different than normal. Most places serve them with flour tortillas. Overall, the Chk. fajitas was a dissapointment. The chicken was slightly overcooked which made it dry. Also, I could not detect any flavor in the chicken or the veggies. Literally, no spices seemed to be used in the preperation of this dish. Sadly, the corn tortillas-which I thought would be an interesting flavor addition to the standard fajita-turned out to be the only flavor in the dish. Fortunately, even unflavored mushrooms and onions taste good when carmelized. Fajitas: C- My wife ordered the "Fettucini Caliente" She said she liked it. She doesn't like critiqueing food and so I will give it a generous B for lack of input. Menu and pricing: The menu was much more Mexican and American than it was fusion. It had several standard mexican dishes (chimichangas, enchiladas, fajitas) some american burgers and then three or four "fusion" type dishes like the Fettucini caliente my wife ordered. selection gets a C Price was a little higher than a standard Mexican restaurant, my dish was 14.99 while my wifes was 12.99 (not much higher but a bit. What surprised me was the cost of the Margaritas which I had expected to run around 7.40 or 8.00 for the grande but my check said 10.50 each. I inquired and was told that Cuervo was a "top shelf" tequila. I didn't argue with them but in my experience Cuervo isn't Top Shelf tequila anywhere in the world. It is a "sugar added" gold tequila that is actually looked down on in better tequilerias. Big surprise to me that they would upcharge close to $4 for cuervo vs whatever else they normally use. Pricing gets a C-, mainly for the tequila reason. It would have gotten a C just for being "slightly" higher than normal (especially considering the cafeteria ambience). Final grade: C- Not enough for me to want to go back. For what this place is I would pick El Vaquero everytime. read more

We ate there on a Sunday afternoon. Not busy at all. We suggest that you check your bill carefully because our bill was 10 bucks too much. Server changed the amount without any appearance that mght have said, "Sorry about that." We deduced from the way the bill was added up that the overcharge was deliberate. The food was jus so-so. Went there based on a friends recommendation. Maybe it was a bad night, as my friend is a big fella with a love of great food, but here's my experience: Waiter brought 2 waters. My glass had food all over it. Sent it back. No worries, I am not a huge restaurant complainer, but I will not quietly drink from a glass with funk on it either. Waiter sucked. Looked at me like I was unreasonable, there was actual baked on food from the dishwasher on this glass. Idget. Not much of a grasp of the English language, not a good waiter in any way, but smiling and nodding took our order and got around to us eventually. I noticed chips and salsa on other tables, we never got any and he was not around enough to inquire about how things were going etc. My first bad tip in a loooooong time. 2 bucks for this clown, maybe he will get the picture. I ordered a beef brisket chimichanga. Sounds like a great idea right? It would be and someone that knows how to cook should make one and sell a couple million of them. There was very little brisket into what was mostly a mostly flour tortilla, deep fried. I will say that the flavor of the little bit of brisket that was in there was pretty good, but I really couldn't get a great handle on how good, as there was not nearly enough in it to justify a 12 buck burrito. A couple of ounces tops, no kidding at all. The bed of lettuce that accompanied the scant other needed garnishes kept nudging me to leave as it had that just pulled from the bag vibe that makes me certain. Could have used some salsa, but the waiter was nowhere to be found...Oh, and an 'artful' squirt of sour cream on the burrito was done is such an amateur fashion that I was kind of embarrassed as the attempt to be 'fancy'. Rice good, beans dry and needy...just weak and like a 3rd world dining experience. Wife had a salad with blackened salmon on it. The fish was quite good really, and cooked well. The salad did not seem to come from the same bag that my chimi did. Tthe dressing on the salad was (hopefully) largely olive oil with a squeeze of lemon - again, weak and it confirmed that this amateur rip off of the former employer down the road is no threat to its forbearer, and most likely will not be around in a year. Louie needs some management to line up the staff and get them to perform or get rid of them. Looks like crony and amigo hiring policies, which leads to entitlement, shitty service, bad food, and ultimately losing everything including all of your friends who pissed at you as they run your dreams into the ground. Get some help Louie, these people you have working for you are sinking your ship. Execution of cooking, quality control and service could be tuned up to make this a good place, but it ain't happenin at present. read more

Fried plantains are the best, especially with the creamy salsa they give you to dip them in. And the staff is the nicest staff I've ever encountered, one of them even changed my tire after showing me it was flat. I would definitaly recommend going there, and make sure you take care of their staff. read more

I've been here twice and the food was delicious both times. Especially the ground beef nachos. The service is pretty attentive as my drink never got low and my order was taken quickly, however my fiancé asked for no tomatoes on her salad and it was brought with tomatoes, might have been a language barrier with the waitress. read more

Great, authentic, FRESH food. I've never had an item on the menu I didn't like. Everyone that works there is very friendly and nice. Super family friendly place. Open seating, so it's perfect for large parties, typically without a long wait. I HIGHLY recommend Louie's for a unique dining experience. read more

We used to love the fish tacos here but on my recent visit I found them to be very disappointing. Stale tortillas and horrible frozen fried fish. They looked like popcorn chicken from Long John Silvers and tasted even worse. 90% breading and zero flavor. Very upsetting. read more

I had a chimichanga and at first they brought me someone else's order and they seemed surprised that I didn't want something that I didn't order. They asked if I was sure. Yeah...I'm sure I want my correct order. The margaritas were okay. My boyfriends meal was pretty good - he had jambalaya but then he had a terrible stomach bug for the following two days. Second trip was horrible. I was seated by a woman who could barely speak english. I ordered the shredded beef chimichanga for 11.99....it was flavorless and the red sauce on the outside was almost unedible. I gummed it down with the white rice overed in black beans. They were bland and needed a dose of salt and pepper and yet still tasted flavorless. My son's kids spaghetti tasted better than my food and this is supposed to be a mexican restaurant. I will never go back to this place. If i have a need to eat mexican food again in Hilliard I will go to Fiesta Mariachi on Main st. Its cheaper prices, free chips and salsa unlike here were its tacked on your bill and it is better quality on every dish. So avoid this place at all costs. And im saying this when i used a groupon on this dinner and the final bill was 37 dollars....so with my 20 dollar groupon it was 17 dollars i paid,. And yet it still was sub par and wasnt worth 17 dollars......Taco Bell would be a better choice than this place. read more

Although I had no idea what to expect my first time there, Louie's really came through for me. The service was polite and quick while the food was much better than I anticipated. My first time, I had the Cuban sandwich along with fried bananas and since going there initially 3 weeks ago, I have been back another time! Can't believe its been here this long and I hadn't been there until so recently. The prices although are more than reasonable for what you get. I will say that it is not great from a bar perspective- this just isn't its primary function although you can sit there and catch some sporting action while of course having a drink. One last thing to note, I just learned at my last visit that on Thursday and Saturday nights they will have live music in the form of a keyboard player. Again, I highly recommend Louie's! read more

Louie's Grill is NOT affiliated with Starliner Diner. The two brothers who run the place used to be cooks at SD. They took SOME of the recipes when they had their falling out with the owner of SD and started a joint of their own. They are clueless about running a restaurant. The place may be clean, but the food is nasty! I have eaten there more than once and will NOT be going back. The meat tastes old and chewy. The sauces taste watered down. And who charges for chips and salsa? Save your money and your tummy--find somewhere else! read more

I feel bad panning a local independent restaurant, which my husband and I like to support, but this one just isn't worth your time and money. I was excited to see many interesting dishes that seemed like Starliner Diner fare on the menu and hoped that it would at least be as good, but LouiE's Grill didn't make the cut. In a location where the last two or three restaurants have gone under in just a couple months, LouiE's might not last long either unless they pull thing together. Despite being a slow weekday night with only two or three other parties in the restaurant, our table had rice on it when we arrived, which is not usually the best way to start off a meal. The service was very slow and at many times there wasn't a staff member in sight to wave over if you needed something. The food we ate was okay, and my husband liked the ropa vieja, but I thought it was missing something acidic to brighten the taste and tried to wait patiently until we could get some lemon before eating. The sweet potato fries and plantains were not as good as Starliner, with too little flavour in the sweet potatoes and a somewhat unripe taste to the plantains. While there is a chance that this is not related to the restaurant's food, my stomach was sour for about the first half of the next day- not an enjoyable experience. Overall, I thought it was expensive ($25 for a shared appetizer and entree, no drinks) for what we got. In the end, I'd rather wait for a table at Starliner or go for a different type of food. read more
