I really want to love this place; and for the most part, I do! But when you have an absentee owner and no manager--stars are lost! Went in last Friday night after discovering they have a fish fry! It's $25--which, to me, is a little on the pricey side for a fish fry, but we like this place and the vibe...so we tried it. The fish was crispy and fresh and hot and delicious! The mac and cheese was good, hot and gooey. The coleslaw, which is a newer item on their menu, tastes oddly like grocery store macaroni salad--the kind with the little pieces of carrot and sweet pickle?? I suspect it was made with miracle whip and I don't eat miracle whip...but that's not what cost them the star!! I just chalk that up to personal taste...not good taste...but not for me. The server offered dessert, cheesecake or peanut butter pie. The owner of this restaurant, btw, owns a bakery. We opted for one of each. My husband got the cheesecake and there was a dried up chunk of something that fell off another dessert!? Nope...his cheesecake was dried out...literally to the point that I could lift it up by the sides and set it back down without my fingers having anything on them--still dry. So I tried my peanut butter pie. Also so dry that I could lift it by the cut sides and thump it on the plate and it didn't even fall apart!!! Shame. On. Them!! The server explained that they were probably in the fridge for "a day or two"...I think possibly more?? They were taken right off the bill, but when I asked to speak to a manager, I was told they don't have one. Please note...for the most part this is a local restaurant we like and frequent. But when you have owners trying to get by with that kind of nonsense, it's an embarrassment! I felt bad for the server and disappointed by this. Hopefully this is a problem they will fix. The caprese salad was not good, and came with what looked like old toasted (not seasoned) bread - certainly not up to Italian restaurant standards. Came to Louies on a Saturday night and sat at the bar since we had no reservations. The staff was friendly and we were attended to quickly. Seems this place is popular and many locals visit. I ordered the tour of italy which came with a soup and bread, not pictured but will say it was AMAZING, and could have ate that soup 100x times. The pasta dish i ordered was also perfect in amounts of food, flavor and variety. Also shared a 6slice margarita pizza between my 3 friends, was a perfect size and also amazing flavor we did not expect to be so good! Tomato soup and the Reggie chicken were tasty, both very creamy (and a little too salty in my opinion). The chicken itself was okay, nothing special. We followed suggestions we read in the recommendations on yelp and by locals who highly recommended Louie's. They weren't wrong. Get the garlic knots. They are cheesy deliciousness in garlic butter. Stopped here for lunch and very happy we did! I got a chicken parm sandwich. The chicken was very juicy and the breading very flavorful. I loved the marinara sauce and there was a good amount of cheese. The bread was really good and completed the sandwich. I could only get through half of it. Very nice inside, with a modern/ traditional flair. The Bar looked very nice, but I had a glass of Malbec. Naturally I ate the Veal Parm, they included a big knife with the plate. Which was of no use to me at all; the veal could have been cut with a spoon. Our waitress was kind, and stopped over a few times to make sure we were all good. We made reservations for 6. Our waitress had 2 tables. Ours with 3 people and a party of 12. The waitress did not even acknowledge our existence for a half hour. We obviously had our orders ready, however she continued to cut us off anytime I had a question or my husband tried to order. For example, we ordered milk for my daughter. She said 'we don't have milk' and turned to my husband for his order. I said, well then can you bring her water? We ordered milk because this is what we saw on their website: All kid's meals come with a choice of soda or milk & cookies. By the way, never got cookies. Our meal also indicated bread. No bread. So, we received our food at 7pm. An hour after being there. My husband and I both ordered chicken parm. Mine came with a knife, his did not. We asked for another one and she said they didn't have anymore. Our food was good. Don't get butter noodles for the child's meal. Literally noodles with butter. I thought maybe a butter sauce, but nope. It was gross. When we got the check, my husband noticed that they charged for my daughter's meatballs that indicated on the menu that came with the noodles. She ripped it out of my husband's hand and walked away. When she came back, she said that's how it is in their system. Also the chicken parm was $1 more than indicated on their website. Took another 15 minutes for her to take my husband's card (even though at this time the party was gone.) We asked a busser if we had to take the check to pay at the bar or something. As he went up front, he found the waitress. All in all, we were there almost 2 hours. We kept trying to be understanding but all in all, Louie's seems to be very mis-managed. read more

Definitely has fallen off since owners of Giuseppe's took over. The pepperoni pizza there was the best anywhere around here. Now it's literally Guiseppes pizza with a similar pepperoni sometimes. Such a shame. Why change a great restaurant into a fancier looking clone of a pizza restaurant up the street? Even the Louies Pasta which I loved turned from a great pasta dish with quality meats into overcooked pasta, bland sauce, and obviously frozen meats. Ruined the best local place. We chose a booth, the server came by dropped our menus and asked for drink orders. I asked for an Old Fashioned unmuddled. I got a shot of burbon with a cherry, slice of lemon, lime and orange. We asked for 2 appetizers and ordered the tour of Italy and the chicken parm. After a short time we were told the mushrooms were sold out. So we ordered a Calamari and the Greens and beans. Calamari was typical frozen Sysco type, the bean very tasty. Main course was ok but for an Italian place the sauce was raw, not cooked well and very acidic. They say they make the dough daily with "premium" ingredients. If that's true, it seems they're rushing the process. Maybe more gluten development or doing a slow, cold rise of the dough would help. Haven't been to Louie's for dinner in awhile since new owner took over. Big disappointment overall. Salad used to be mixed greens and now just iceberg lettuce. Bread used to be better and was served with seasoned olive oil for dipping. No more. Asked for wine list, but they said they don't have one, but they do serve wine. Wife asked that her shrimp scampi be cooked without butter as she is lactose intolerant. They said they could do that, but when it was served they totally left out the garlic, so she said was not very good. I have been there recently for lunch quite a few times. The couple of sandwiches I had were not very good - bland bread overwhelming the inside contents. Pizza was good however. I guess if we go back it will be for pizza and a Peroni. read more

My family went to Louie's last night for my mothers birthday dinner. We have heard plenty of good things about Louie's so we decided to give it a try. We had a party of 6 so it's a decently sized party however, not big enough for the problems we faced. We came in and the waitress Alicia came and got our drink orders; we waited over 15 minutes for our drinks to come to us. The waitress came and brought us our drinks and got our food order. My father's stomach was hurting so he ordered a salad for his entree and bruschetta for the appetizer. Between 15-30 minutes later they bring out our salads 5 of us had salads and my father didn't (due to ordering a salad entree) BUT they didn't bring out our appetizer of bruschetta. My father waits until everyone is finished with their salads before the waitress even does a table touch. He simply asks where the bruschetta is because it's a APPETIZER so it's supposed to be out with the salads and it never came. She gave my father attitude and said that she makes the salads and the cook makes the bruschetta and WINKS at him. So, my father tells them to cancel the tables order. The cook approaches us as well and says "good f*cking leave then." Even after ALL of this a manager or supervisor never came to reconcile or see what went wrong. Needless to say Louie's will NEVER get my business again. read more

This is a small corner restaurant located in Hanover Square in the village of Horseheads. It is one open dining area with tables, a small handful of booths, and a semi-open kitchen. Not fancy, but neat, clean and a little chic/cool in its own way. You may even get your water served in a plastic cup (and that's ok!). A nice menu with good variety, not huge (which I personally like not having 100 different choices), but certainly something for everyone. The parking is on-street parking, but we have never had an issue finding a space. First off, let me tell you...they have the BEST Garlic Ties I have ever tasted, and anyone whom I have ever dined there with agrees wholeheartedly! Homemade bread knots sprinkled with Pecorino cheese, fresh torn basil, and then drizzled with an olive oil/butter/fresh garlic mixture. To die for!! Trust me and order these - you won't be disappointed! I have not sampled everything on the menu, but have never been disappointed in a single thing I've tried. Personally I love the pasta entrees: especially the Chicken Riggies, as I love the spicy kick the cherry peppers adds to the dish. I also love Louie's Chicken Carbonara with mushrooms, pancetta, and a wonderful creamy carbonara sauce. Every dish has a nice presentation, Apis very consistent, and the prices are in line with the quality of the food. The service is friendly and attentive. I was pleasantly surprised to find a vegan option on the menu. I ate a cheese-less pizza covered in a great variety of vegetables, with fresh basil and pine nuts. YUM!!! What a great spot! My friend who still lives in the area insisted we stop into this gem. I had a cup of the soup of the day (a little bland honestly, it was chicken noodle but whatever) and the italian sandwich. It was a ton of food and I had to take the sandwich home. I saw awesome looking pizzas at the other tables and I know what I will be gettting next time! The sandwich I had was built with italian meats, lettuce, tomato and cheese. SOOO good! If you're headed north to the Finger Lakes region, I recommend stopping by Louies Hanover Square for a nice meal. The restaurant is centrally located in a town called Horseheads. A nice plus is that street parking was easy to find around dinner time. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by the waitress/hostess and were free to choose our own seats...we took the last booth. Looking around, I noticed the decor is clean, modern, and hip. It took me a while to figure out what to get because the menu had a lot of variety. I think this is a good thing if you're dining with a big group. There's something for everyone here. I finally decided to get the chicken quesadilla for appetizer and the chipotle chicken pizza. My bf ordered the tomato soup with swiss cheese (pomodoro) and the penne vodka. I have to admit, one taste is all it took. That soup is marvelous! It was creamy, smooth, perfectly warm, a nice balance of tomato and swiss cheese. I wish I had ordered it myself! The appetizer, chicken quesadilla, was crispy and not overly cheesy. Same thing goes for the chipotle chicken pizza...loved the spice of the chipotle and jalapenos. It set my taste buds on fire! The only entree that we weren't raving about was the penne vodka. After tasting the soup, the sauce in the penne vodka tasted like some of the soup we just had earlier. I had hoped for a thicker vodka sauce with the pasta. There was also too much sauce in the pasta dish...so by the end, there was a pool of vodka sauce in the bowl. Nonetheless, our experience was great and the service was excellent. There was only ONE waitress for the whole restaurant that night and she was above and beyond. I'll be glad o tell you all about it how I've had this problem and a intrusion of privacy by a person that doesn't know when to stop talking , yelling to make a point of to just be able to hear himself talk !! I , unfortunately don't think it would be effective in persuading him to be less aggressive with his actions and his behavior in order to obtain some social manners and respect for others and to respect his boundaries, with regard to others and to be respectful to his own personal areas and his personal items that are important in his life but , it's treated with no highbregargj, or even the slightest bit of care to his clothes , or his very extensive collection of his Carpentry tools either !! He refuses to take time for these things to get into a routine of he could be living. It's a shame, especially for his inability to control his temper with a very tiny bit can trigger these multiple scary , bully and loud as a means of communication with me , threatening me for something relevant or not but the poorly understood nature of his behavior and how wrong itos too much too often also , Anger Management here is tantamount widen his horizons !! along with the reasonable explanation of the situation, how to make changes to live a much better way to make these learning process es and adaptations for a much needed change to prevent physical harm to himself and others that could trigger his bullying and poor judgement on how to not act out in any situation I'd say , he could use a smudge to read more

We had a phenomenal experience here tonight. We had the garlic ties, and they were excellent. I had the steak with garlic butter, garden vegetables, with a side salad. Jen had the gnocchi special with the tomatoe soup. Josh also the soup, and the ravioli. They both thought the soup was fantastic. My steak was cooked perfectly, the garlic butter was also very good.
