Cute little dive place. I had the chicken gyro and my fiancé had the lamb Gyro. Love the tzatziki sauce.

Obviously I have seen all the people posting about their pancakes, and yes, they are the size of hubcaps. For real reals. The guy next to me ordered them and my eyes almost popped out of my head. But when I walked into this cute little spot on Agnes in West Village, right there on the wall, on one of those dark boards where you slide the letters in (I think they are called felt letter boards) were six glorious words: This Week's Specials - Fried Bologna Sammy. Well there you have it folks. Decision immediately made. Here's the caveat though, it wasn't your typical thick sliced baloney (yes, I know what I did there) with some American cheese on a bun. Nope nope nope. This was pan toasted bread, pickled onions, lettuce, cheese and her bed mayo that was nothing short of spectacular. I didn't know if I would like something more than what I usually had and I can emphatically say yes I did. Had a delicious cup o' Joe to wash it all down and honestly was the happiest fat boy in the whole wide world. The service was fantastic, the food was fantastic, the experience was fantastic. What more could you ask for ?

The interior does look nice, they updated it a lot but still kept some of the wood features from before, which I liked. That said, the service and overall customer experience definitely needs improvement. We stood in the lobby for quite a while with no clear direction. It wasn't obvious whether we were supposed to wait somewhere specific or if a hostess was coming, so there was a lot of confusion until someone finally let us know there was a wait. Once we were seated, it also took a long time for our waitress to come over. By the time she did, we'd already had plenty of time to look over the menu and knew exactly what we wanted. When I asked a few questions while placing my order, she seemed a bit irritated, which didn't feel very welcoming. As for the food, everything on the menu felt overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. We ordered a variety of items to try different things. The cinnamon sweet potato pancakes were definitely the standout, they were really good. The grits bowl was good, However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing. It was just one biscuit for $6, no meat at all, and the gravy tasted a bit off. Overall, the pricing for breakfast felt steep, and I was honestly a little taken aback by it. The mimosas were delicious, but again, not quite worth the price point for me. Nothing I had really stood out enough to make me feel like I have to come back for it, which was disappointing because I wanted to love this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, so I might give it another try to see what the hype is about, but as of now, it was just okay. Solid three stars.

Once we sat down, our server had waters at our table already and was quick to come take our drink orders. My friend ordered the very berry Bellini and loved it, so she ordered a second one. My friend ordered house made corned beef hash with eggs, & cheese grits (gave it a 9/10) the grits needed some salt & pepper; and a Cinnabunn pancake (we give that a 12/10). The pancake was fire!!! I tasted a piece and wanted to order my own. My other friend ordered the crème brule chicken & waffles - she gave it a 9/10. I ordered an egg white omelet with turkey sausage, chicken, spinach & bell peppers. It was good but a little too runny for my liking. It came with fruit and whole wheat bread. I asked for strawberry jam and they brought me a homemade strawberry sauce that was soooo good! I give my meal an 7.5/10. Overall, the place is cute and pretty spacious with lots of seating. Babo does not offer decaf coffee, a big disappointment. I settled for tea. The server was not aware of this decaf option until I asked. Our food came quickly although it was not super warm for either one of us. The syrup for the waffle was very cold, also a disappointment. I also really enjoyed the Shakshouka which I think was a seasonal dish. The service was great the server was very helpful with recommendations. I was searching for a Restaurant that Truly supports a GF person So many say they are yet ( pre read their menus and nada) This was a test visit for guests that ARE ABSOLUTELY GF. I called for a Reservation. Oops no same day Res, yet I was told there was one Res left for 12:30 ( if We didn't make it the wait would NOT be long. We were a bit late yet our table was waiting for Us... This is a cozy scratch kitchen restaurant with a Greenwich Village vibe. Table seating for 16 bar seating for 3 Yet it didn't feel crowded. We were asked if it was our 1st time? Yes. Menu was fully explained and even b4 I could ask I was told what was always prepared GF and for other dishes what could be substituted...I purposely chose the GF waffles. May I say AWESOME. I had 1 suggestion....add the Tart cherry crafted jam that came with my husband's biscuit as an additional add on with the syrup. with the waffles I blended syrup and jam and. Then my Latte. I asked for a Hot cup. It was creamy smooth. If You can't have dairy ( and they asked) there's options. I need not have worried; there was parking closer by. Oh well. The restaurant is tiny. And it maximizes the space by lining its walls with colorful bottles of wine, chic and cher containers of olive oil, and pots of artisanal honey hiding here and there. My friend pointed out the breathtakingly beautiful bouquet of dried flowers hanging over our table. I should have taken a photo when I had the chance. I started with the spiced brown sugar latte, made with oat milk. Delicious and sweeter than I thought. Even though the menu is small and curated, I could not decide between the nosh plate, the biscuit brekkie, or the quiche, which was the special of the day. So I ended up with the quiche but added the biscuit and bacon - I did not want to miss out. The crust of the quiche was fine, but the custard-like filling was divine, more like a savory crème brûlée or flan. Service was quick and efficient. Our reservation was made for one of the predefined 90-minute blocks, so the staff was on top of getting and delivering our meals and bussing tables as soon as they emptied to make room for the next group of guests.

The classic breakfast with a small stack of pancakes (4/5) is exactly what you want it to be. Portions are very generous, even the smaller size, and the vinaigrette ties everything together without overpowering it. The halloumi was the highlight and delivered exactly what I was craving. A solid 4/5. Overall, The Twisted Apron is a solid brunch spot with good food, efficient service, and a polished feel.

I later found out the area serves two purposes...1. a huge farmers market on Saturdays and 2. a big safe area for tailgaters for the sports teams. The servers and cooks were A1. Except in this case the food was good and no greasy spoons anywhere, lol. I would definitely come back here for breakfast or even lunch (menu look yummy) if ever back in Detroit. Also ordered a Greek salad with feta on the side, they would not allow me to get a turkey Reuben, because it's not on the menu as such, even though they offer a turkey avocado melt. $49.29 Guess I will only be eating a salad for lunch today then. We will have to go elsewhere then. They only allow you to order off the menu on the weekends as is, seems rather rigid. This is a first to be told that a place doesn't want my money for a turkey Rueben when the beef version is on the menu and they have turkey sandwiches as well. Odd that my hubby's plain black coffee comes in a styrofoam cup, my green tea is in the usual expected ceramic mug. My husband will wait for a ceramic cup. The extremely rude waitress brought out a ceramic mug, after I asked for a ceramic mug. She made us feel most unwelcome during our entire visit. The staff member that brought us our food and brought me the Greek dressing were much more pleasant and warm. They do charge you for using a credit card here, around 4%, of course they do. Seems kind of high for a CC charge. Huevos isn't bad. They only gave us three flour tortillas. My husband wanted one more, but this place is so cheap, so we figured they would charge us for that, since they don't allow for any substitutes of ingredients or charging just an up charge instead of charging for full price item sides. Got the Greek salad, but no dressing at all. Am I supposed to eat this thing dry? I had to ask another waitress for some dressing 7 minutes later, since our waitress had no clue she hadn't brought any dressing at all. The red onions look so old and are thick cut rings, tossed them on the side. The tomatoes aren't ripe. Salad core in the salad. At least they use Romaine, spinach and greens. Salad is not special, dressing tastes like ranch with some beet juice added to it. Green tea is meh, coffee too. I believe our waitress needs some retraining on her job, she's not so good at it. Our waitress never checked on us once after the order and bringing our coffee and tea. She couldn't be bothered it seems. Not a good experience today at all, made worse by our main waitress. Odd her name is Tootsie, would have thought she would be a tad nicer though. Huevos was decent. Greek is worth a pass. Try to get anyone else but Tootsie, unless you like being treated indifferently and invisible.
