We heard good things about Norm's Diner so decided to breakfast there one weekday morning recently. Street parking is available, but it's tight - even at 0800 AM. We dined indoors, but outdoor seating is available. The inside retains some of its old timey look; complete with metal steam hot radiators. The room is open; even cavernous. Bright, fresh clean. Loved the fresh wild flowers in tiny table vases! The time of morning was early enough that there was still plenty of seating. Kadie, our bubbly, knowledgeable server took the orders and remembered the additions and deletions my party requested. My companion raved about the fresh off the griddle, large, hot pancake received along with extra butter and REAL maple syrup. Indeed, i tried a bite, and it was light, fluffy and oh so delicious. I asked for the Egg and Pimento Cheese sandwich. The large sausage patty tucked into the sandwich was very flavorful. It was an excellent choice! I cannot speak highly enough about this spot. In fact, I have to say I'm angry with myself for taking so long to get out here. Obviously I have seen all the people posting about their pancakes, and yes, they are the size of hubcaps. For real reals. The guy next to me ordered them and my eyes almost popped out of my head. But when I walked into this cute little spot on Agnes in West Village, right there on the wall, on one of those dark boards where you slide the letters in (I think they are called felt letter boards) were six glorious words: This Week's Specials - Fried Bologna Sammy. Well there you have it folks. Decision immediately made. Here's the caveat though, it wasn't your typical thick sliced baloney (yes, I know what I did there) with some American cheese on a bun. Nope nope nope. This was pan toasted bread, pickled onions, lettuce, cheese and her bed mayo that was nothing short of spectacular. I didn't know if I would like something more than what I usually had and I can emphatically say yes I did. Had a delicious cup o' Joe to wash it all down and honestly was the happiest fat boy in the whole wide world. The service was fantastic, the food was fantastic, the experience was fantastic. Heard good things about Norm's Diner and since we were on that side of town, we decided to drop in for lunch. The restaurant is located in an area that gives a small town vibe. It's bright and clean and well staffed. I ordered a Tuna Melt, which was very delicious, one of the best I've had. I was a little hesitant about having it on white bread, but it was especially good and perfectly matched the sandwich. My friend ordered the Club and really enjoyed her choice as well. We popped in here on a Monday around noon and there were a few tables open. I found it a little tight in there, the tables are a tad close together. Guests of a "certain size" may need to opt for the chair not the bench, like I did, to avoid butt swiping the table next to you. I ordered the egg and cheese sandwich, without the spicy pimento cheese (they have cheddar available). I found their sausage to have a bit of a heat to it, but my SO thought I was crazy, so that's just personal preference - I like a sweeter sausage. I also got a side of the breakfast potatoes and schmear. They say "smashed" on the menu, but I was pleasantly surprised by the full mini potatoes. I could slice them up how I wanted and could choose my level of schmear to dip. I found them very good. The SO got pancakes and a side of sausage and enjoyed them both. They came around a lot to ask if he needed a refill on coffee and to top off my water which was nice. The food was out extremely fast, helps to have a limited menu! This has been on the list for brunch for a while and we really enjoyed it here. Believe it or not, it was my first time in this charming area is Detroit and I immediately fell in love. This is an old school diner. We enjoyed sitting at the "bar" for our breakfast. We ordered Biscuits and gravy and a fried bologna sandwich. The Biscuits were cooked perfectly, but I wasn't a fan of the gravy. It was served with a fried egg on top. The fried balogna sandwich had cheese and lettuce and onions and tomatoes and an herb mayo. I hear it was delicious but it was devoured before I could get a bite. Their pancakes were enormous and they had an intriguing cookies and cream waffle that I should have tried. We stopped by Norm's Diner today and caught it closer to closing, so there was no wait. It is usually packed, but the late timing made for a relaxed experience. Service was smooth and easygoing, and sitting at the counter gave it that classic diner feel. We ordered the two eggs with sausage, crispy potatoes, and toast. It is a generous, hearty plate. The eggs were just slightly over-seasoned for our taste, and the sausage leaned a bit rich, but the toast was excellent and the potatoes with garlic schmear were a nice touch. We added pancakes, which rounded everything out and made it feel like a proper diner breakfast. Overall, a solid 3.5/5. The cobb salad was the standout. A full wedge of iceberg, perfectly chilled and crisp, topped with hard-boiled egg, avocado, bacon, bleu cheese, crispy chicken (the go-to), and that garlic dressing. The dressing alone makes the dish worth ordering again. Easily a 4.5/5. Overall, it was a really pleasant visit. I heard a lot of hype for Norm's so maybe that raised my expectations. I dropped by once to an endless wait (to learn people had reserved to get in line online? Can that even be?) and I couldn't stick it out. I went back on a weekday, determined to see what the fuss was about. The atmosphere is pleasantly basic. The coffee is good. Service is swift and solid (as it should be in a small-diner environment.) I had the breakfast salad. My daughter had the turkey club. Sadly, neither was particularly memorable. I love salad and a nice egg - so I wanted to love this. But meh. The price was pretty fine - so there was value, but still. Meh. I may try again. read more

I'm obsessed with this place!! It's so cute and gives a small town diner feel. The hospitality is amazing and the menus are so cute you can even color on them. It's very nostalgic. The food is incredible. I think it's my favorite breakfast in Detroit. My favorite are the pancakes and the potatoes! But I've had other things here that are also good. Wonderful diner that puts creative spins on classic dishes. I've yet to have a bad meal here, and the service is always friendly. The dining area is a bit small and fills up quickly on weekends. If there's a wait, there's a coffee shop next door with seating where you can hang out until your table is ready. The biscuits and gravy were phenomenal. They also used to have a lox plate on the breakfast menu that was absolutely to die for. Norm's is such a cute diner in the West Village but keep in mind there is no reservations ao if you're going to go during a busy time get your name in early. This is such a cute spot! I absolutely loved the diner vibes but the food was way better than anything I've ever had a diner - I would say this is a bit of an upscale diner. I had the BLT and I am still dreaming about it. It was perfect. My boyfriend had the chorizo biscuits and gravy which wasn't bad but we probably wouldn't get that again. I'm thankful to finally have a restaurant in the West Village with regular operating hours. Most restaurants around West Village have odd hours or are only open in the evening. For that reason alone, Norm's has quickly become a staple for breakfast and lunch. I find myself coming here a lot to meet people for lunch because there aren't many other options in this neighborhood. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre and overpriced and has gotten worse since it opened several months ago. For example, in December, I ordered the Caesar Salad with Crispy Chicken, and it was decent, with the same chicken used in the Crispy Chicken Cutlet entrée. Several months later, in February, I ordered the same thing and was given lower-quality chicken different from what was served in the Crispy Chicken Cutlet entrée. In addition, the sodium content was super high for both my salad and the side of fries I shared with my friend. I could not believe the amount of salt in both dishes. I don't even know how or why there would be so much salt in a Caesar Salad. I haven't had the Crispy Chicken Cutlet since December so I wonder if that has changed as well. The Two Eggs Breakfast is okay but you can get a better and bigger breakfast at nearby Coney Islands. Great new diner in west village. We put our name on the list about an hour before being seated. This Diner is small so prepare for a wait in the weekend brunch hours. We got the fresh soup, fries and a shake. Everything was absolutely delicious and they also accommodated our baby twin girls. We went to pick up pies for Easter at Sister Pie right down the street so took advantage of the close Proximity to try out Norm's Diner. I wanted to try it before I took a larger group I am scheduled to bring there in May. It's such a cute little neighborhood spot, just fell in love with the atmosphere, location and the food was really good as well. I had the yogurt bowl and the egg McMuffin special and my husband had the 2 egg breakfast. The yogurt bowl was unique and very filling. Could only eat part of it but the rest travelled well. It was really creamy yogurt mixed with turmeric with berries and granola on top. The sandwich was a special of the day and was their version of an egg McMuffin. It had sausage, scrambled eggs, cheese and hash browns and covered with hot honey. I got it without hash browns because I'm not a fan of them. The hot honey on top was the ingredient that made me order that don't did not disappoint. A little messy but worth it. My husband go the 2 eggs scrambled (served with cheese), bacon and toast. Everything was cooked to perfection and came on a timely basis even though they were super busy. I'm excited to go back just hoping they have room for my larger group. read more

The place is on the smaller side but really liked the club sandwich. The bread was fresh and so soft and a good amount of food. Where do I start about this quaint little gem in Detroit? Nestled in an adorable neighborhood with a delicious coffee shop and cute bookstore, Norms is on a well travelled but relatively quiet street. The cute modern diner vibes make it a great hang out spot where you can probably get lost for hours with good conversation and a great meal. From arrival to departure the staff was friendly, attentive and extremely helpful with the food suggestions. My sole visit was for the LDW burger and fries special which had boasted on social media to taste just like a McDonald's burger and let me tell you that burger was nostalgia in a bite. Delicious, juicy, buttery and the LTOP with the aioli was *chef's kiss*. I hope this makes another menu appearance (or becomes a staple!). Our other dish which was such a delicious refreshing plate was the panzanella, heirloom tomatoes, garlic bread croutons, mozz cheese and some balsamic - we added some protein with the crispy chicken cutlet and it was the perfect filling but fresh and light dish. Just be prepared that the very basic diner paper menu in front of you doesn't actually describe some of the dishes you may receive- Ex., the $10 yogurt bowl sounds fairly average: MI honey, house granola, berries - and now look at my pic. The yogurt is a beautiful yellow/orange hue (from tumeric) and a good bit of kick- I absolutely loved it and will try to recreate it again home but others might be surprised that it's not the plain yogurt they were expecting Similarly, the "Texas toast" on the $14 BLT is actually just toast (see pic) so again, expectations might go awry The $5 Breakfast Potatoes are just stunning- I could order multiples! It's a new place that this neighborhood truly needs with fabulous food! From generations of restaurant family, I promise you they'll make changes/streamline as they settle in- they're highly overstaffed and they'll figure out how to cut some costs as they go but for now, get in there and try this food! Hallelujah! A diner in West Village. I went to Norm's on opening day and had the best turkey club with heirloom tomatoes and herby mayonnaise. My friend had the pancakes and a malt. I'm telling you, this place could be half as good and it would still be great. I almost went back today but I "you have food here"-ed myself and what was that food? The other half of my turkey club! Still delicious cold, sitting two days in the fridge. They are open 8am to 4pm, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I know it's too much to wish that they were open 24/7, one thing I miss about my previous city. But that's one thing I miss among a million I do not miss, so I'll be grateful for a diner that's open 8/5. Service was very friendly and good. What I noticed was how chill and efficient it was for an opening day, food was coming out at a good pace, coffee and water was refilled, they checked in on as after we got our food and again about midway in. I also really love the design and decor: it's very thoughtful without being overwrought. It's beautiful and bright inside with the large windows overlooking Agnes Street. I love the creme and burgundy color scheme, and the counter and the stools (nice, plush stools, not the evil metal ones!), purse hooks. It gives a 50s diner vibe with a sleek Swedish aesthetic. In addition to the hot food they also have a cooler with some grab and go things. If you're planning on coming, use their wait-list app which is on their website and Instagram. Street parking is free but can be sparse at times. I feel like a lot of people had walked there so we were able to find parking pretty close. The food is good, the service is efficient and friendly, and the location is great, but the place is tiny and it's crazy expensive.

Detroit holds a special place in my heart. A few visits ago, I walked by Norm's before it opened and thought, "That's great branding." Turns out the great branding comes with great food. As I sat at the counter eating, I kept thinking, "If this place were close to me, I'd be a daily caller. Bottom line here is that Norm's serves up amazing standards that are well... above standard. With Norms Diner being added to the West Village area it's such a great addition to the neighborhood! The inside is small so it definitely was packed. I arrived around 12 noon I was able to get a seat at the counter. During peak brunch & lunch hours it gets very busy so prepare for a wait when going. I ordered an Arnold Palmer to drink which was refreshing. For my food I got the yogurt bowl to start the granola added such a perfect crunch to the sweetness of the berries which balanced it out very well. I ended off with the Crispy Chicken Cutlet which was fried to perfection and was so tender. It paired well with the green goddess dressing on the bottom of it I like that is was topped with that frisée salad really tied it al together. Norm's dinner is such a cute place,a fantastic addition to West village. The menu is simple sticking to classic diner favorites. The soup djour was dill pickle and it was out of this world delicious. The turkey club was perfection. Also ordered the chicken cutlet which was so perfectly cooked crispy, juicy with such a bright fresh sauce and greens accompaniment. Food took longer than I would have liked and both meals didn't come out together. At least 10 mins apart. So that wasn't good but don't let that stop you from trying this place out. Loved everything about the ambience, the food and the service. They'd only been open for a week or two so I'm not rating lower for having to wait a while into our meals for coffee refills. To some diners this is very important. My friend's fried potatoes were amazing and her food allergies and dietary needs were addressed and met. Was really excited to try Norm's, but after two visits, I think it's overhyped. Pretty expensive for breakfast food and they still need to work on their consistency.
