When you walk in it literally looks like someone's house which is kind of cool, the atmosphere is really cool and very inviting. We ordered drinks and I had a Mojito, the 1st Mojito I ordered was REALLY sour, I could tell that there was no Simple Syrup at all in it, when I told the waitress about it she went back and made another one with the Simple syrup and it was so much better. I ordered the Chicken & Waffles, the amount of chicken they gave you for the waffle was outstanding, it was about 7 pieces of chicken on 2 pretty big waffles. I have tried to go to this restaurant numerous times for brunch but the wait time was longer than I was willing to hang around for. After going I am so sorry for not trying this restaurant sooner. It was such a great selection of breakfast and lunch items as well as a full bar and coffee selection. I went with friends so I was able to try several things. I highly recommend the breakfast smash it was a delicious Sammy on fresh grilled challah bread. I also really enjoyed the Shakshouka which I think was a seasonal dish. The service was great the server was very helpful with recommendations. The space is small so it is not the greatest for larger groups, but great for a party of 2-4 people. I would say this place is on the more expensive side for the amount of food but definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for a good brunch spot. read more

We always enjoy visiting Babo. Located in mid-town, cute store front brunch spot on Woodward. A fair amount of seating allows easy access without a wait on most weekdays. I assume there is a wait on weekends. Greeted by friendly staff quickly and offered a menu to pursue. Selections covered all the basic brunch items without being "too much." The ambience is warm and casual though ambient noise makes quiet conversation a challenge. Our server appeared to be newer and somewhat nervous so there was not much chitchat. Babo does not offer decaf coffee, a big disappointment. I settled for tea. The server was not aware of this decaf option until I asked. Our food came quickly although it was not super warm for either one of us. The syrup for the waffle was very cold, also a disappointment. Other than these two drawbacks, the flavors were wonderful and the pricing seems right in line for this area. Babo is a solid brunch choice in this are. This spot was a very popular option for breakfast/brunch! It's a cute cafe with a variety of options including breakfast, brunch and comfort food! I'm so sad we didn't get to have any drinks (we were preparing for our half marathon the next day) but they had an amazing drink menu! I ordered the Korean beef cheesesteak and if I'm honest It didn't taste quite like I expected. I got more of a sloppy Joe tasting sauce over a Korean beef sauce but it wasn't bad. The truffle fries were a little too tangy for my liking as well. Definitely would have to come back for drinks. They had a Chai Tea Martini, Apple Cider Mimosa, and various beer and wine options. I ordered a sprout omelet and my husband ordered the crem brûlée french toast. It was supposed to work out that we each eat half and switch. Neither of us wanted to switch. We tasted each other's breakfast and admired how very good it was also, but chose to eat what we ordered! :) I know you cannot fall in love with food... but hear me out! The brussels were not simply chopped. Nope. The care to peal them apart leaf by leaf, and cook them just enough before adding the parm and smoked bacon... OMG! I cannot wait to go back. Visited Babo on a sunny Sunday and was able to get a table very quickly. The servers were up beat and seemed to enjoy working there. My server specifically was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some great recommendations. Started off with a delicious espresso martini and raspberry cheese danish as a starter. For my mains I ordered the Frida skillet without the pecans. This dish was so unique and tasty. It was light but packed full of flavor. I especially loved the onion confit next to the roasted sweet potatoes. I also tried the crème brûlée French toast which was to die for! It was not too sweet, perfectly balanced. The toast was buttery and thick with the crispy sugar layer. Pairing each bite with a strawberry and whipped cream made for the most perfect bite! Overall I would recommend this place for a nice weekend brunch with friends or family. I will definitely be going back next time I am in Detroit! read more

It was a Lions game day so we were a little worried we wouldn't get in right away but we were seated immediately by very friendly staff who continued to be prompt and helpful. How have I never heard of this gem until today?!?! I went with a couple other art teachers after a teacher event at the DIA this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it! We had to wait 45 minutes on a Saturday at just before noon. Not a huge deal. Our server was so pleasant but clearly very busy. However, he never seemed stressed about it. What was ordered: cappuccino, latte, sangria (x4 ), waffle and berries, and some breakfast hash with eggs. Everything was phenomenal. The sangria though, that was top tier. I would go back and wait just for that. We didn't feel rushed, even though there was a wait and we decided to stay for a round of sangrias after we paid for brunch. TIP: you can make reservations. Do yourself a favor and do it. It was an expensive 45 minute wait...I bought some perfume at the Peacock Room while waiting. read more

The omelette was good. The avocado was okay I have had much better anywhere else. The bread was dry and they didn't put anything on it. The breakfast smash was flavorless. Almost everything needed a sauce or seasoning other than the truffle fries and the lemonade. The lavender lemonade and the regular lemonade were very good. Excellent lunch at Babo on a beautiful Sunday. We lucked into a just-open table and the vibe was busy but never frantic. The cinnamon honey latte was super flavorful and not too sweet with rich espresso. The brussel sprouts hit every note with a balanced honey maple glaze, goat cheese, and apple and the sprouts were nicely crispy. The wild mushroom & truffle omelette carried a light truffle aroma with earthy mushrooms and the chilled side salad was fresh and lightly dressed. The breakfast smash on challah felt surprisingly light for a breakfast sandwich and the home fries were freshly crisped. Stopped in for lunch about 12:30 the other day with a friend. Smallish restaurant that was busy, but we were seated immediately which was very nice. The service was great. Fast, not hovering but also there when needed. Very friendly atmosphere. I came in wanting to try the babo burger and I'm so glad that's what I ordered. The table next to me had the chicken and waffles and the french toast; both looked very good. The babo burger was delicious. Everything was seasoned well and the toppings complimented each other wonderfully (bacon was awesome). My only negative on the burger was I finished eating it with a fork/knife. It was SLOPPY. Do not order this if you're on a first date lol. The structural integrity became more compromised as the burger was being eaten, but I can overlook most of that because of how good the burger was. The french fries were also great. The fries were adequately salted (something most places struggle with). I would have loved them to be a touch crispier, but very good nonetheless. The breakfast menu is high quality, and just about everything is good to try once. I had the best chai tea latte (w espresso) my last visit there, and the mushroom omelette. Interesting place. We stopped in for a business lunch and while it fulfilled our need, it struck me more as a cool Sunday brunch or Saturday morning hangover recovery place. Nice twist on items like a Korean Philly cheesesteak or chicken tacos. One table mate had waffles and said they were amazing. Sweet potato fries were also a hit, but since none of us shared food, I can't really comment on multiple food items. Parking is street parking but easy to find. My husband and I popped in when downtown a few days ago and had a good first visit, armed with some knowledge that I think will make our second visits even better. We came in with about a 30 minute wait for two but they did have two seats available at the bar, full service. We were hungry and didn't mind bar seating so we bellied up. The bartender/server behind bar that took care of us was awesome. Really friendly and genial. I needed coffee so I went with a honey-cinnamon latte and oh boy was it so good! The syrup is housemade and delicious. I'd order that again and again for sure. It was hard to narrow down my choice but ultimately I went with the mushroom truffle omelet with a side of fruit and my husband went with the chorizo omelet with a side of fruit. We were both trying to be healthier going with the fruit but we both agreed that for the cost and a more filling meal we should have gone with the potatoes as the fruit side was a little on the smaller side. Everything was delicious, but after a morning of walking around the city we could have probably both used a lil' more oomph. I did like my omelet a lot, tho. The wild mushrooms inside were excellent. I just wish there had been a lil' more goat cheese and I didn't really pick up on a lot of truffle flavor, but I personally ordered it for the mushrooms so I was ok. My husband wished his had a bit more chorizo. So yes, everything was good but I think neither of us have quite found our go-to order here yet (aside from the latte, of course). The service was quick, they seated us without a reservation but it might be recommended to not be disappointed.
