I was there Sunday May 19th with my son. I ordered the skillet potatoes. It was horrible. My son had a French toast sandwich that he said was good. I didn't even eat half of the skillet potatoes. The price for skillet potatoes and French toast sandwich with a cup of coffee and glass of OJ was oVer $55 with an 18% gratuity automatically included. A young's man with short locs. Our group ordered mimosas flights which were good, the deviled eggs as well. My grits made it to the table after I had finished my skillet and I took my time eating and asked several times. The skillet was good, I just would have like to enjoy my order together. Servers response time was very slow considering the size, number of table and amount of servers. Another person in our party had an issue with their order and the young man seemed to have gotten annoyed. Also sounded like there was a fight or yelling going on in the kitchen that was distracting. I regret that I didn't listen to the negative reviews. Firstly, they don't take reservations at all. I knew that since they didn't take reservations it would be a wait, but I didn't expect to wait that long. I had a party of 3 and they said it would be a 30-40 minute wait. Fine. An hour goes by and a table still isn't ready. After waiting about an hour and 30 minutes we should've just left, but we decided to still give them a chance. When we finally get seated, our server tells us that the kitchen is backed up and we can't place our order for another 20 minutes. We thought the the food would make up for the extremely long wait but we were highly disappointed. The food wasn't hot, we were missing items, the service was just horrible. We asked for syrup and ketchup from one server and they never bought it out. We then ask another server and she says ok, but then she proceeds to go clean tables instead of bringing us condiments. At that point we felt like they didn't care at all. I really wanted to live this place but it was a big no for me. read more

Although there is a food truck (which is delicious!) this review is for the newly opened brick and mortar restaurant. I have been excited about it for a long time since I live in the area and frequent the food truck. Overall, I rate this a 4.5 experience. First, it was slightly confusing of how to enter the building from the Jonesboro Rd/Black Coffee side. It is nice that the parking is free and right in front of the building. We simply had to go up a short flight of stairs. I am not sure if an elevator is available. We were promptly greeted and seated at a table. The service was really great! We had the Love at First Bite Pancakes and the Smoked Gouda Chz Grits bowl except I substituted the shrimp for salmon due to an allergy. (This request was hassle free.) We also had a parfait. My boyfriend would have liked to have had coffee, but since it was the opening day for the business they did not yet have the appropriate cups. (It was no problem to get coffee from the great coffee shop Black Coffee.) The food was really, really tasty and I am not sure if I ate more from my own plate or my boyfriend's. I can't wait to see how this place is enhanced once they get a few days/weeks of operation under their belt. It was definitely LOVE AT FIRST BITE! read more

I gave this restaurant a three rating based on three things. 1. The music was SO loud until we had to scream at each other to converse. The restaurant is too small for loud music and voices trying to talk. 2. We ordered the Breakfast Skillet with chicken sausage. Literally, there were about seven, mini sized pieces of sausage in the skillet. Either slice the sausage larger, or give more. 3. We weren't aware of the Service Charge on the menu. The servers should bring that charge to the customer's attention when ordering. Between the service charge and tip, we paid about $19... the same price as one of the entrees we ordered. It was only two of us. The bill was approx. $63 It is our desire to patronize black restaurants, but please make sure the smallest of details are made aware to the customer. read more
