Had an awful experience with this shop…read more I had ordered and paid in full for wine to be delivered for a dinner that evening. I waited all day in my apartment but my delivery never arrived. When I inquired, I got JONATHAN on the phone. He told me my wine was left at my apartment door. I told him there is no wine at my door and no one knocked or called my cell phone. He insisted they knocked but I didn't answer...then he added this incredibly obnoxious comment...'We just assumed you didn't want to give a tip so you didn't answer your door, people do that all the time.' I was stunned that he would say such a thing. I assured him I had been home all day (with a tip ready to go!) but NO ONE knocked on my door, no one called me and there is no wine in front of my apartment door. I began to get very upset. He was offering no solutions to help me, he was agitated and he just kept insisting my wine had been delivered to me. I asked if he could send the delivery person back over to show me where he left my wine because it clearly must've been left at the wrong apartment. He was behaving as if I were lying and wouldn't even consider the possibility that his employee might have mistakenly left it at the wrong apartment. He refused to send the delivery guy back over and then became really nasty. It was surreal. He said he would refund me (never did), called me names and then threatened me. This is a man who has my name, address, phone and cc info threatening me. There is something very wrong with this person and I believe he is the owner. At this point I'm inclined to go to the police. Just unreal.

The bottles tasted like straight vinegar, having clearly sat in high heat for some extended period of time. I emailed the store about it twice, offering to return the remaining unopened bottles in-person in exchange for store credit, with no response. When they finally responded after two months, they refused to do anything and mischaracterized the spoilage as variance due to style and vintage, suggesting that I "store and revisit the bottles in a few years". Turns out 2 months is the window for filing a credit card dispute. What a coincidence! Lesson learned.

I guess I do live in Bushwick and not Chelsea. However, I am a sucker for experience, aesthetic and community. (I am from the NW) When I heard of Henry's I knew it was the place for me. It is only a few blocks further than my usual liquor store but entirely worth the commute. I have known bartenders for as long as I can think back to my semi adulthood. (I did live in Germany at the legal drinking age of 16) And when I arrived at the shop it's like it was holding it's arms open for me. I completely nerded out and had the most recent article of Bon Appetit that had the new best wine distributors cheat sheet. The first bottle I looked at was from one of these distributors. Talk about the cream of the crop! The guy helping me was not pushy at all but instead informative and passionate about the product. I learned that biodymanic means even more clean and less tampered with than even the organic. When I walked to the counter there was cute letterpress boozy cards. And then I noticed a new interesting bottle of Fernet. Fernet is every "cool" bartenders choice of shot. This bottle came from San Fran of course and the artwork on the label was just as impressive with gold accents. The lady at the counter was very informative. And even explained the little box packed with 3 crafted small bottles of gin. Talk about Merry Xmas to me. I am a huge gin fan so it's a must on my booze shopping list and necessary for my up and coming home bar. I also loved that there was very cool modern art hanging on the walls, bold colors and plants. And I have to mention the box wine as I walked in had a huge and adorable pig. It's nice to know that people are focusing on the outside of wine as well as the inside. I left with two bottles of red wine for turkey day. And in the famous words of the terminator "I will be back". Side note: Please have tags of descriptions of featured wine. If you are looking to pick things up for the weekend, definitely go Friday evening when they hold their tastings. He started out as a salesman for Brooklyn Brewery during the 1980s. Eventually he founded his own beer imports company called Raven Importing Company. Raven ultimately wanted to open his own craft beer bar and bottle shop where he could offer consumers microbrews and high quality European brews. The new business, dubbed Brouwerij Lane, was the first of its kind in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood. Brouwerij Lane has 19 rotating draught lines as well as 150+ cans and bottles of local, imported, rare and unique craft brews. Raven also teamed up with brewmaster Chris Prout to open the Dirck the Norseman restaurant and brewpub in 2014. It later evolved into Greenpoint Beer & Ale Company, but it sadly closed its doors in 2024. I recently visited Brouwerij Lane while I was in Brooklyn to see a concert. I arrived early in the day so I could explore some beer bars and shops throughout Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Both neighborhoods have bustling craft beer scenes. Brouwerij Lane has been on my list of places to explore for a while. The interior is small but cozy. There were maybe six other customers enjoying beers when I arrived. I grabbed a table and then looked over the impressive draught menu. I decided to start off with a pour of Mighty Squirrel Brewing's "Volare" (Italian Pilsner). Italian Pilsners are my favorite variety of pilsners, and this one was excellent. Dry-hopped with noble hops, "Volare" (Italian for 'to fly') was crisp and delicious with a nice blend of citrusy notes and hints of freshly baked bread. I also had a look at the shop's impressive can/bottle selection and purchased a can of Brown Girl's Brew's "Lemon Pound Cake" (Lager) to take home. Before leaving, I enjoyed a pour of Brouwerij Van Steenberge's "Tripel De Garre" (Belgian Tripel). This was an AMAZING Belgian beer that had some excellent spice notes. I had an excellent experience at Brouwerij Lane and I highly recommend them to craft beer aficionados or those who want to learn about craft beer!
