Doug and I had about 9 months to plan our January 2017 wedding. Straight away, we really focused on the important stuff. The cake. I don't like eating other people's cakes, so I would've made ours if it was possible. Luckily it wasn't realistic because, otherwise, we never would have found LoveCakes! We really wanted to find somebody local, and at less than a quarter mile from our house (according to Yelp), LoveCakes could only have been more local if Angie, the owner, was baking out of our own home kitchen. We met at a local cafe for our tasting. Typical tastings are $25 for 3 flavors (2 cupcakes of each flavor for a total of 6 cupcakes), but we had such a hard time narrowing our flavors down, we paid for two tastings and had six flavors. (All tasting fees were applied to the final order.) Doug ended up being thirty minutes late to the tasting, so Angie and I sat around talking while we waited. She immediately won me over with her personality. It really felt like sitting down with a friend, not some business owner trying to push a product. Doug and I ended up going with three desserts: chocolate brownies, orange carrot cake cupcakes, and our very own custom treat...root beer and rye whiskey cupcakes with a cutting cake to match. Everything was a hit with our guests and, more importantly, us. It was so good, in fact, that we ordered a second cake 10 days later for my birthday. In addition to custom orders, you can also find Angie at local events like the Odd Market and The Left Bank's comedy nights.
