We were shooting a movie scene In Eagle Rock and learned that our line producer was celebrating a birthday. Where to get a cake at the last minute? Searching Yelp, I found Ruby Bakery, and I hit the cake jackpot. I selected one of the vanilla strawberry cakes they had on display, the staffer quickly and expertly added a "happy birthday" message, and I paid a very reasonable price for a cake that ended up feeding over 20 people. For a small additional amount -- I think under $1 -- I bought a plastic cake cutter, since of course I'd forgotten to bring one. The cake was a huge hit! Light, flavorful, fresh-tasting. It disappeared quickly. (We have had two prior birthdays where people brought in sheet cakes --from other bakeries -- that ended up getting mostly thrown away.) I wish I were closer to Eagle Rock, as Ruby Bakery would be my go-to for celebrations. Those of you fortunate enough to live nearby, I don't think you can get a better cake anywhere in LA, especially not at this price. They do not take credit cards, but Zelle works! read more

Been coming here for years so it's tough one to be upset about. However, the cake in my opinion looked very rushed and sloppy. The icing ropes looked melted. And on top of that, my daughter's name was misspelled. They "fixed" it and I got back a horrible correction. It looked so bad half scrapped off. Who does that?! And the solution? Take your cake and $15 back and that's it. I get it, errors happen but even with this being THEIR error, the young girl behind the counter gave me nothing but dirty looks, eye rolls and never offered an apology. I'm guessing she's not the owner so I'm sure she doesn't care. At least the two older folks were trying to remedy their error. Either way, I was so disappointed that the cake was ugly and misspelled. I feel like I got completely ripped off. I paid way too much for this. This cake was embarrassing to present for pictures. Cake flavor was good. Cake image was terrible. read more

I've been going to Ruby's bakery for years and it has never disappointed! My favorite pastries are the eclair, the butterfly and of course the chocolate and coconut kisses. I've always found them to be really good cakes. They're never dry and are always a hit at parties. Recently, I wanted a birthday cake for my mom. I asked my lady to call and place the order for a cake that would feed 15-20 people. I wanted it to be a chocolate cake that was half banana and half strawberry. She ordered a 1/4 sheet sized cake after consulting with Ruby Bakery staff. They were very helpful. Needless to say, the cake was a hit with my entire family who had it and sampled both flavors of it. But more importantly, my mom enjoyed her birthday cake a lot. The cake was moist and the chocolate cream was delicious. The strawberry was great and so was the banana. I think, for me, I liked the strawberry a little bit more than the banana. But both were delicious. One detail I've always liked on their cakes are the shaved almonds all along the sides of the entire cake. So good. Metered street parking out front. Located on Eagle Rock Blvd near the intersection with Colorado Blvd. Staff was friendly. Bakery showroom floor was well kept. Display cases were clear and easy to peruse.
