I had lunch at Lovejoy's for the first time in December 2022. I ordered the Full Turkey Sandwich, not the half. When my sandwich arrived, I had to peel back the bread to see whether it actually had any turkey on it. I found two slices of processed turkey, just enough to cover the bread. My father ordered the Grilled Chicken sandwich. That came with 2 slices of processed chicken that was cooked on the flat top. This is Texas. They should serve a real sandwich. read more

What a gem in Whitesboro! Stopped for lunch and this place reminds me of my hometown. Everyone was so friendly, the food was delicious - and you have to have the carrot cake and the coconut cake! And the Chicken sandwich with the special sauce! Oh and the shop up front has so many unique gifts. I already did some Christmas shopping and of course has to buy me something as well. From the outside, you would never guess there is a cafe and soda fountain inside. At first glance it looks like a clothing store. If you walk to the back, there is a small cafe (open M, W, F for lunch) and a soda fountain (open everyday except Sunday). Great little spot. The owners and all of the staff are so sweet. I love how Mr. Lovejoy comes to talk to all guests and gives suggestions of what to order. The have the best desserts and a cake of the day. We had a Kringle topped with blue bell ice cream and we got a coconut cake to go. It was hard to choose what to order. So many good options. The desserts are delicious and will remind you of the desserts your grandmother made with love and care. The boutique is quaint and you can almost always find something you need or can't live without. The baby clothing and toy area is very sweet and will make it easy to find the perfect shower gift the next time someone you know is having a baby. The owners are personable and will sit and chat with ya and before ya know it you'll feel like you've been a regular here for years. We had malted chocolate milkshakes that were made by Hank Lovejoy, himself. Unbelievable, how quickly I can slurp up a milkshake that's made so perfectly. It should be no wonder, since the guy who's making it has been doing that for over 50 years! Hank, and his lovely wife, Rita, are the original soda-jerks of Whitesboro! The place they own has been in the family for decades. Four generations of this family have worked at and operated businesses in this location. Lovejoy's café is only open for lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The café serves different sandwiches, pasta salads, and has lunch specials when it's open. You can get ice cream, milkshakes, and baked goods any day of the week they're open. Women's clothing and unique gifts made by local artisans are sold throughout the front part of the store. Stopped by for lunch while driving around the area. Warm comfy feel, treated as if we were old friends. For lunch they were serving 4 Panini to chose from and we were a party of 3 so tried the chicken salad, roasted chicken, ham and cheese. They were great. Served with a few chips, pickle and a little watermelon. All three of us had strawberry milkshakes. I would highly recommend if you are in the area and not in a hurry that you swing by and meet the wonderful Lovejoy family. read more

Happened onto this cute shop with an authentic soda bar today while driving through Whitesboro. The building and eating area in the back have been decorated to reflect the character of a vintage Main Street store and eatery. The sandwiches looked amazing but we had already eaten...however, we couldn't pass up an old-fashioned vanilla soda! So good! Enjoyed visiting with the owner's granddaughter and employee. Very pleasant girls who shared the history of the family business. We really enjoyed the stop, found an adorable stuffed pony for our granddaughter, and plan to return on our next trip through the area! read more

We only get to camp in the area once or twice a year, but we always make a special trip to have lunch. They only serve lunch on Monday. Wednesday and Friday so it's a real treat to eat there. They have the old time soda fountain. The food is great and the service is prompt and super friendly. read more

If your reading this and wondering if you want to stop....STOP! Immediately and enjoy the best shake in Texas. My wife says chocolate of course. The ice cream isn't your basic everyone buys from the same place ice cream...it's different and much better. Let's see,how about the bread pudding I had, mmmm with the vanilla ice cream well let's just say I wasn't disappointed! My entree was chicken salad on a homemade croissant that just melted in your mouth. Ok enough about that let's speak of the strawberry tea... folks I am about speechless with words to describe it, yes I know some want it more sweet no! I don't like too sweet and it it wasn't, I don't like a real strong tea flavor and it wasn't, it was a mellow mild made me think I was sitting under a shade tree flavor that I will return for! I was told the syrup "strawberry" was homemade. Love this place and the ambiance was just cool. Definitely worth the short side trip off the main road. read more

A wonderful little place. Only open MWF 11-2. But the food is worth it! Made from scratch daily and oh so mouth watering. The flavored tea is delicious and not sweet. The strawberry lemonade was absolutely perfect too! We had the spinach salad and quiche that day. Both were incredible. The lemon cloud was beyond amazing. We went there for lunch on a weekday and it was moderately busy. But it took over TWO HOURS to get a ham and cheese sandwich with some pre-made potato chips. The server was rude & unattentive and when we complained a little (asking where our food was), she acted like we were a pain in her butt. Our drinks were empty most of the time. When we finally got our lunch, we inquired about their "famous" ice cream and milkshakes. The waitress didn't even know what flavors they had. It took her 15 minutes to come back with a selection. We politely asked "Will it take a long time to get a milkshake?" she said, "yeah, it probably will" so we left without that experience. When we went to the front to pay, I made mention of the poor service and excessive wait time and the two old ladies at the counter actually defended the waitress' behavior and offered no discount or compensation for the ridiculous wait time for a dang sandwich! I have been a waitress before so I am COMPLETELY familiar with the job and tasks, what is and is not the wait staff's fault. I left a respectfully negative review on Facebook and they actually deleted my review and blocked me from their page! I guess you can only go here if you're in NO rush whatsoever and if you only have great things to say. I will NEVER patronize this place again. read more

I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been said about this little gem of a store / café, but I'll try. On a whim and in spite of the weather, we traveled to Whitesboro yesterday and decided to visit this little store. It was about 15 min. before closing time and as soon as we walked in we were greeted by a nice lady who was busy cleaning up after the day. We noticed that the place just smelled delicious and were surprised to find out that there was a little café tucked in the back of the store. Needless to say, we had to go back and see what this was all about and as we were admiring the café I noticed a couple sitting back and relaxing. Without hesitation they came over to us, again, let me remind you this is approaching closing time, and began talking with us and suggesting that we try some of their delicious cakes. What followed was an almost 1 hour visit over coffee and cake and sharing stories of their lives together and of the surrounding community. I can say, without hesitation, that we walked away deeply humbled and appreciated the kindness and hospitality that Hank and Rita extended to us. If you're traveling through the area take the time to stop and get a sense of what it use to be like "back in the day" and meet people who are genuinely kind hearted. We will DEFINATELY return and we can't wait to visit with Hank and Rita again while trying some of the other items on the menu, of course. read more

Worst. Service. Ever. I have been a server and it's been a LONG time since I didn't leave a tip. The waitress seemed new (not the problem) but she was rude and inattentive. It took over an hour to get sandwiches with a side of potato chips for six people. I reported the wait to the cashier (management?) and she said "I noticed that y'all have been sitting here a while". So even she knew we were there a long time. When our food was ready, the waitress practically slammed everyone's plates down and walked off, not to be seen for another 20 minutes. Drinks were consistently empty and the server acted as if we were an inconvenience to her. We wanted ice cream but she didn't know the flavors. Instead of finding out and returning immediately, she went and took care of another table and came back a few minutes later. We asked if it would take long to get it to go and she said, "Oh yes, you'll have to wait a bit". Now, I could see they HAD been busy when we first got there, but this was nearly 2 pm and most people were finished...exactly how long does it take to scoop out some ice cream? I will never go back to this place. The menu is extremely limited, and management didn't offer to make anything right. Instead, she actually made excuses for the waitress, the wait and the poor service. I can make the same sandwich at home in 3 minutes for 1/3 of the price. No thank you. read more
