I am so happy that I found the Magnolia Cafe in Durant, Oklahoma! This is the best run cafe I have been to in a long time! The manager, Chris stays right up front and is a real hands on style manager. He makes sure that the customers are well taken care of by the wait staff( who are all friendly and knowledgeable as well as hard working). The decor is attractive and spotlessly maintained. The kitchen staff gets the food out very promptly and the bacon, eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy were all cooked and seasoned to perfection! Everything was so good that I drove through a flooding deluge of rain and lightning to eat there the next morning! Chris remembered me(after only one visit) and greeted me by name! I will definitely be eating here on every trip I make to Durant! read more

Was visiting from out of town and this place came highly recommended however somehow, it missed the spot for us. We arrived and got seated, the waitress was plenty friendly, made suggestions, made sure coffee cups stayed refreshed. However the food just seemed to be lacking. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and literally it was a biscuit with white gravy no sausage or seasoning that could be tasted. I had specifically asked that the hashbrowns be cooked crispy. However what was served was far from that. The skillets were more like a scramble. The creamer container was filthy where the server ended up taking the container from the table. We were asked if we wanted to go containers which we declined. It just didn't meet our expectations based off the reviews we had read nor the recommendations given to us, to which we left disappointed. I'll start with Mary cause she was great. Just a really pleasant person that brought an aura of calm and sweetness to our table. She seems like the type of person that smiles and laughs easy. I really enjoyed her as a server. Next up, coffee. I drink mine black so it has to be good. It was! It tasted like they brewed it fresh just for me in that moment. I suspect they are cleaning their pots regularly so the burnt taste doesn't carry over like in some of the large chain breakfast restaraunts. This place was great service and wonderful food. The ambience is diner with fast moving waitress and waiters that are knowledgeable with the menu and tentative.One can order breakfast all day, and there is lunch or dinner. I had chicken fried chicken with beans and fried zucchini wasn't up charge because I've insured for having a fried zucchini. All of it was very good. My husband had a hamburger and onion rings and he said it was good as well. We will go back. They have great desserts, but we were too full for dessert this day. Oh my! We came here with friends after a night at the casino. This had the best breakfast reviews in Durant and we had high hopes. Inside is a quaint diner type restaurant. They were busy for a Sunday morning but the service was spot on!!! I had the chicken fried steak and eggs that was scrumptious! Every cooked just as I would want and oh boy that CFS was so good! My wife had the cinnamon swirl French toast and loved it. Our friends had the Mexican skillet , which she said was excellent. Even the basic sausage and eggs plate was perfect! My beauty decided to go to Choctaw for a get-away (we don't gamble) and we slept in at the hotel across the highway and missed the free breakfast. She found the Magnolia on Yelp and wanted to go. They didn't disappoint. Old town feel driving in, reminded me of my home town growing up. Great people, great food. Sometimes, we just need to settle down and relax. You can here. Mother's Day, we knew what to expect. Every restaurant in America would be packed. The strategy for eating at Magnolia Café, get there early, before church lets out in the small town of Durant. This strategy was flawed. Every family took mom out for breakfast. The parking lot was overflowing. Little hopes of getting in quickly, but willing to deal with the wait. Surprise, Magnolia Café had a couple of booths open. The restaurant was prepared, staffed, organized for the event. The varsity team waitstaff. "They were on their A-game!" There were several specials. The waitress suggested the Chicken Fried Chicken. Sold! Make it two, with green beans and mashed. A side salad for me with Thousand Island. There was almost as much dressing as there was salad. No slackers in the kitchen either. The restaurant was packed, yet our food arrived in minutes. So my buddy and I usually end up at Choctaw Casino on a regular basis, and we often have vouchers for free food. Today, we didn't, so we headed into Durant and discovered the Magnolia Cafe. This place is a real gem. It's very homey and comfortable. The staff are all very friendly. The menu had a lot of comfort food available, including breakfast served all day. The food was excellent. My buddy had a burger and fries. The burger was decent size with a respectable amount of fries. I had the chicken fried steak, which came with a choice of potatoes, pinto beans or the vegetable of the day, side salad or the soup of the day, plus Texas Toast. The chicken fried steak appeared to be hand breaded and properly cooked. It was decent size and plenty of cream gravy. The prices were especially good and reasonable. If you find yourself at the casino, or are just passing through, this is definitely worth the stop. read more

What an amazing experience. Magnolia brings up certain expectations. This place didn't fit those images. I looked at the menu and was f impressed. I got the chicken strips and my wife got fried catfish. Those chicken strips were amazing. Absolutely the best I've ever had. The fried catfish was equally amazing. And their French fries - so crisp and good. After I was stuffed, I saw their pies. I so wanted to get a piece of pie to go but we're on the road. Fantastic food in a small space with awesome service and more than reasonable pricing! The portions are ample and everything is just like mama cooked it. We stopped in for dinner one night and liked it so much that we came back for breakfast the next morning. The fried fish, chicken fried steak, pinto beans, and homemade ranch from the dinner menu are definitely something to write home about. The buttermilk pancakes that you can get all day are some of the best I have had, and I have had A LOT of pancakes in my lifetime. & Don't even get me started on those sinful hand pies. The rating is based more so on where it's located. There's not a whole lot in Durant as far as restaurants go so this one was relatively good. Ordered the biscuits and gravy - that was pretty average. Also ordered the breakfast tacos and there was 5/5. The salsa could've used some work but combined with Cholula it did the job just fine. After a 2 hr 45 min drive out of OKC I arrived in Durant. We quickly accomplished our work and then set our sites on a places to eat. I did my usual Yelp search and did look at Magnolia Cafe among others. However, my colleague said he had been here previously and food was good.r have been the first time I was undecided about lunch but ultimately decided on the Wednesday Special. The discussion was Egg Noddles w/Beef Tips asking with a side salad. Everything was quite tasty. Unfortunately I passed on dessert. Venturing out to try something local proved to be a great experience! My husband's meat lovers omelet and cup of beans with cornbread were a perfect harmony of flavors. The beans were incredibly flavorful and the cornbread was simply divine. His omelet was a true delight! We also had the opportunity to try the French toast, which was absolutely delicious! I opted for the chicken fried steak, and it was tender, flavorful, and had a light, crispy batter. The tomato basil soup was a creamy, dreamy blend of flavors, with generous chunks of tomato. While the fried zucchini wasn't bad, it lacked a personal touch. I am from out of town visiting Lake Durant- placed an order togo today. I travel for work and love to support local- Bill was $27 ($30+ with tip) for 3 chicken strips, fries, and a Philly Cheesesteak. The Philly looked like garlic bread with some meat tossed on it. They forgot my side with the Philly but was already back at my Airbnb when I realized. Food tastewise was pretty decent. Called to ask if they could maybe sub the side or refund and it just kept ringing. Surely did not feel like it was worth the price or wait time.
