We had breakfast at the Lovely Bear Cafe, a charming new restaurant in Lakeside near Pinetop, and it was such a fun little find! The café is small, quaint, spotless, and filled with playful bear décor that gives the whole place a warm, cheerful personality. It has the cozy feel of an old-fashioned country diner--the kind of place where you can settle in with a hot cup of coffee and enjoy a hearty, homemade breakfast. And let's talk about the food and those portions--OH MY! I ordered three eggs, bacon, hash browns, and homemade biscuits and gravy. Everything was cooked to order, arrived surprisingly fast, and tasted wonderful. The biscuits and gravy especially satisfied that serious comfort-food craving I had that morning. They were warm, filling, and exactly what I needed! The coffee was a good, strong black brew that fit the country-café experience perfectly, and the prices were exactly what I would expect to pay for such a generous breakfast. The restaurant was busy, and with only two waitresses working, they could definitely have used another set of hands. A few guests had to ask for coffee refills or their checks, but this is a brand-new restaurant, and I am sure they are still working out the little details. The staff was working hard, so bring a little patience and enjoy the experience. My husband and I were really impressed with our experience. The food was just the right temp and so good. I got the #1 with sausage. Really sausage. The waffle was perfectly cooked. My husband got the bacon burger no cheese with fries. He's raving about it. Said the burger is great. He gave me a piece of the bacon and wow! Even the table behind us was raving about their burgers. And silly add, but how do they make even the tea so great? Tea is not something I would normally notice but the tea here is amazing. Great place! Will be sure to eat here when we come to town again. Best Burger ever! I want expecting a freshly patted, thick burger. The meat was superb! Cooked to perfection. The av I adore I got on it was sliced in such​​ a way that half an avocado was spread nicely across the entire bun. My husband had huevos rancheros - Christmas. He was surprised at how good it was (with it not being in NM) He preferred the green. Huge, homemade flour tortilla!!! Was excited to try this place with all the 5 star reviews. Unfortunately it fell short with us. The waffle was so tough I could hardly cut it with a knife. They used frozen blueberries which I don't like, hard to find the lemon curd, the amount was so small. Hubby had biscuits and gravy, the biscuit was hard and stale. Service was good, and food came out fast. Food was just mediocre. With so many choices for breakfast, probably won't be back. read more

This was the best breakfast I have ever had in the Show Low area. I love the mixed menu of country classics like biscuits and gravy, fancy benedicts and Mexican desayunos like chilaquiles. And everything is affordable. The atmosphere is not fancy just clean and orderly with uniformed bussers and servers feeding people. I'm going to focus just on what I ordered -- the green chili omelette. I thought this might be Chile Verde but not quite. It was a delicious mild Spanish sauce with bits of veggies and beef in it. It was on top of (as opposed to inside of) a cheese omelette. It was rich and perfectly seasoned. The pepper jack cheese inside my omelette was the only heat. Just right! The star was the biscuits and gravy though. Read my other reviews. I am constantly comparing and contrasting this deceptively simple American dish every chance I get. Lovely Bear gets a 10. Homemade buttermilk biscuit split with homemade gravy on top and lots of it. I'll never understand why some people order toast when B&G is an option. Bits of sausage and black pepper were in the gravy which can be used as a dip for the hand cut roasted potatoes that came with the omelette. My Mom got the chorizo eggs benedict, which had a healthy portion, some of the best chorizo we had tasted and good home fries. I got the Lovely Bear Plate, with a Belgian waffle topped with berries, lemon curd and vanilla whipped cream along with perfectly cooked soft bacon & scrambled eggs. I walked in to the small of Lysol spray. I'm sensitive to chemicals so that wasn't pleasant!! I ordered huevos rancherous over medium eggs with well cooked onions and received over easy with runny whites () and raw onions. My friend ordered her bacon well done and it wasn't. The waitress didn't check in with us until the end so we could not get it fixed. I did talk to the manager and he made me a new plate to go, but the waitress was very indifferent. Took the kids for lunch, 2 teens and a 8 year old girl. We ordered regular meals which were ok. Youngest ordered off kids menu, chicken tenders and fries for $9.99. She was brought a child's size drink. When i got the bill I was charged for all full sized drinks at $3.00 each. The kids meal doesn't come with a drink, so the kids meal was a total of $13.00. Not really appropriate to serve a child size drink at full price. It's not a huge deal but it rubbed me the wrong way. read more

We had called in advance for a reservation for six, when we had showed up they had sat a party where we were told we would sit. They told us to just sit ourselves outside, not a big deal honestly but the table was a bit messy. They came out immediately with menus but took a good while to bring out waters and wipe it down. After that it was perfect, very busy so it took a bit to get everything but the food was delicious. Server wasn't too friendly or too mean, honestly for how busy it was her patience was great. Would recommend going as long as you're okay with waiting and being patient, food was worth it and it was a pretty spot. read more

I had the red chilaquiles w/chorizo. Very good. Eggs over medium were done just right. Good sausage gravy ( and I am really picky about my gravy). I was not a fan of the biscuit ( my preference only) since it was more of a cornmeal crumbly biscuit and not the fluffy type, but otherwise good food. Small place and it gets busy. I normally do not write reviews, unless it's really bad or really good. Anything in between seems to be a waste of time. So this review is definitely worth my time in writing it. If I could give this cafe 10 stars, I would. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. Seated immediately, had menus and drinks within minutes. The hostess stated Jackie would be our server. We were given ample time to look over the menu and Jackie was right there to take our order. As if she knew we were ready to order. Nice touch. Our food came in a timely manner, hot, presented very well, condiments included. And the taste!! The absolute best burger I have EVER had. My sister had a different burger - best she ever had. The balance of meat, tomatoes, thinly shaved onions, lettuce and cheese was perfection. My sister had avocado on hers - not a spread - REAL cut up avocado. My husband had the chicken strip basket. He ate every thing. It had to be really good for that to happen. Prices were more than reasonable - especially taking into consideration the excellent quality of the food. We will definitely be back.
