I have been going to Lovely Nails for years now. I'm baffled by some of these reviews because this is by far the friendliest nail salon I have ever been to. I usually go to Vee. But everybody who works here is great. They have different types of polishes (gel, dip, regular) with a multitude of colors. They are extremely convenient as you can walk in at any time or make an appointment. I am constantly complemented on my nails and always being asked where I get them done. I walked in about 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon. The shop was about half full. A woman asked me what I wanted with no greeting or smile. I asked for a leg wax and pedicure. She said ok and it would be a minute. Five minutes later I was ushered into a back room. When I went to lie on the table she barked at me that she wanted me on my stomach and said "haven't you ever had a wax before?" yes I have but usually I start on my back but I told her that was fine. Ten minutes in she said that she had a one o'clock nail appointment and could her sister come in and help finish the wax. I was already uncomfortable but said ok. For the next ten minutes they spoke in Chinese and were laughing and giggling which made me extremely self conscious. Overall it was a good wax and one of the fastest I've had but I was made to feel very uncomfortable and wouldn't go back. The pedicure was fine but rushed. I'll be looking elsewhere for my neighborhood nail/waxing place. read more

Nice folks but pedicurist cut too deep into both of my big toes. Ouch! It was so bad that I had to ask her to get some alcohol to put on the cuts. Ouch! Place smelled heavily of incense - not necessarily a bad thing, but not what I'm accustomed to at a salon. Price was very good ($35 for Mani/pedi combined) so I'll probably try again. FABULOUS!! Fast, short wait, cheap, clean, efficient, good polish selections, OPI, Essie, China Glaze...I'm not telling who I go to...she's too busy as it is!! But everyone there is excellent. Everyone. They do take appts, but walking in just as good. Note: better tippers get taken first. Throw in a few extra bucks and you'll be taken immediately. Worth it! Also, you must tip in cash and credit card minimums are $15. Just plan in advance. But they are very polite about you running to an atm or the Giant to get money and come back. A lifelong nailbiter, in recent years I've succumbed to the lure of maincures in hopes of keeping my hands out of my mouth. In those years, I've tried nearly every nail place that I've come across in the Rockville, Gaithersburg, Bethesda area and Lovely Nails is by far the best. They're reliable, not usually crowded, very clean, and reasonably priced. Very thorough job done, always a nice hand massage, polish doesn't chip as readily. Walked in and received an instant attitude from the staff. No hello or greeting, instead everyone who was working (that clearly saw me walk in) ignored me and went about their business. It was minutes later until someone acknowledged my presence . l told them I wanted a pedicure and I got "then pick out color." when they told me to sit in the chair and when I did I waited another 10 minutes for someone to come over and do my pedicure. I was actually just about to get my stuff and leave when someone finally came over. I got a few dirty looks from other employees and The overall vibe was just negative. The pedicure was decent, nothing special but the guy shaped my nails crooked. I couldn't get out of their fast enough. I haven't even left the place yet and I have to yelp. This is my very first yelp so it's a shame that I it has to be a negative one. Honestly this place is horrible. I'm VERY peculiar about my nails and I'm a bartender so I'm the same when it comes to customer service. First and for most when I walk in there was absolutely nothing said, no greeting at all so I was just standing this looking around awkwardly. Finally I walk up to the nearest tech who also seemed to be the manager of the day. The entire time she spoke she gave me complete attitude. I try not to make this this reason but I honestly feel that the Asians in this stop a racist. The male tech decided to do my gel polish change at the manicure table so I couldn't see anything he was going. There was no kind of communication at all. All of sudden he started putting the gel on without asking me how I liked the shape. They manager lady came up and started giving me attitude on top of bullshit and proceeded to argue with me when I mentioned that I wish the guy would have filed my nails a bit shorter. I will NEVER spend a cent in this establishment everrrrr again. If you're thinking about going to this place don't. At one point one, one of the other techs was yelling at her guest. I asked for coffin acrylics and got a more squared shape than i did coffin. The nails on my hands are all different lengths. Some nails are skinny while others are more blocky. When applying the nail she put glue on my real nail then dipped the acrylic tip in a purple liquid then applied it to my nail and it sizzled and burned making my nails hurt for 4 days after getting them done. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars so I guess 3.5? They are cheap and get the job done. Come here if you need to get a service done frequently and you're a student/can't afford to frequent high-end salons. If you're looking for a "relaxing day at the spa", this isn't really it. But, if you just need your nails done and you want to be in and out, come here on a weekday and there most likely won't be much of a wait. Weekends do get busy though and you could end up waiting for 40+ minutes. But there's a Giant nearby so go get your groceries done while you wait. read more

If you are not a regular, (even though I don't see how you could become one), they disregard you. I have visited this salon a few times. I had a good experience the first time. I was serviced by a very creative and on trend technician. She did a fill and chrome nails for me. The second time I came back to see the same tech and the owner said she doesnt do fills. I disagreed with her and she said no my other daughter does fills. I went to the other daughter and she was horribly new. She didn't know how to do a fill correctly or shape nails. I had to get them done in another salon two days later. The third and final visit was absolutely horrible. I arrived to find out that no one was available to do my fill-in. The owner said the tech just left in an uber. Just so happened I saw the tech leaving. It was the creative tech who did my nails the first time. The owner lied to me the second time saying that she doesn't do fill-ins. I will never step foot into this shop again. The owner lies, the salon is understaffed and underskilled. Didn't find them to be "cheap" like everyone else said in their reviews. The technician was rushed and very harsh with her movements while doing my nails (strong filing, pinching etc). I've been here a few times before and would never get greeted. The staff there are always all so harsh and with a bad attitude. Since I like how my eyebrows always look I've returned a few times. Went in today for my eyebrows. My expiarance was horrible. The owner (not Mai) the other sister had the most nastiest attitude ever. I've never been given my wax and told to trash it myself!? To top it off the guy Tim who did my nails was a creep! I felt so Uncomfortable that I almost walked out. Where do I begin?! I love this place. Especially, V. I've been going here for maybe 10 years and have yet to have a bad experience. I've had everyone there do my nails but V is my main person. She's great! They're ALL great! The one thing I love most about this nail salon is how dedicated they are to ensure you're happy before you leave. If there are any issues, i.e. nails are too thin, too thick, the color isn't what you expected, etc. they make the effort to ensure you're happy before you leave. The prices are affordable, the salon is clean and they do everything from regular mani to powder which is what I have now. Love it. Love the staff. First I called to make an appointment and the guy that responded was very dismissive. That's fine, I just need my nails done. I get there and it was fine, I pick my color and that's it. When I called I said I needed my toes and eyebrows done, they never told me they were out of wax whn I called. As I sit down to get my toes done I ask for the man who is doing my nails to let me sit a little to soak my toes, they were not busy so I didn't see the problem, that obviously did not work for him and he went on to do my nails. He proceeded to ignore me as he did my nails, fine I am not paying for convo so that's all good. I get my toes done (badly), I'm ready for my eyebrows to get done and the lady flat out says I'm out of wax, wtf? I had specifically asked for that when I called??? I said " a nail shop with no wax?" She dismissed me saying " there are other places you can go, just look around". I left and will never be back. I don't pay to be treated this way. I can't help but be sure this is due to a great disrespect for people of color with a deeper hue than them. Ok. Will try to add a photo. Had not had nails done in long time, they (Kenny) convinced me to do acrylic with white tips for French manicure look instead of brush painted on and the tips cover my whole nail almost. So embarrassing and i cannot get them off right away. Came here years ago and read the reviews here. It is true techs are very rude many times. I will add a photo later and you cannot believe how FAKE my nails look. Who wears a French manicure that covers their whole nails and the acrylic is way too wide for most of my nails. I was there once before, and they were ok, not great but ok, and I was a walk in. This time, I made an appointment for a pedicure for myself and my daughter. We arrived there, and first, the water was far too hot. I could not keep my feet in it. The woman who did my toes was rude, extremely rough, and was rushing like she had a plane to catch. I never, ever had a pedicure in 20 MINUTES! I was not even done that she told me to move away, did not come with me to turn on the fan or anything - maybe I am spoiled! -. On my daughter's side, the guy rushed her too, and made a face when she said she wanted a French pedicure. He rushed as well, the white was not even on every toe, and the brush he used to apply the clear must have touched some not dry pink before since her nails become pinkish even on the white. We were out of there by 6:25 when the appointment was at 6:00 pm. Rude, and rough. I will never ever go there again. read more

I walked in for a full set on an early morning. I was the first person to arrive. After saying hello to the two technicians on site, I was shrugged a hello back. I was then told to choose a nail polish color, which I happily did. I was taken care of by a man in the first booth next to the entrance. He didn't acknowledge me at all. He did a good job applying the acrylic but when it came time to file the nails and shape them he did a terrible job, when I asked him to fix it (very politely) he started speaking to another technician in a foreign language. The nails were slanted and uneven. After asked to correct the uneven length he forcefully started manouvering my hand... Then yelled again to the technician. I am oblivious to what he may have said but it doesn't take rocket science to have picked up on to his outlandish gestures and visible frustration in his monologue. What I am incapable of understanding is this fact: I am a working class individual I work for my money every minute of it, as they do. So when I come to them wanting to get my nails done for however price I expect for them to do a spanking job. It is so unfair for them to act in such a despicable matter and treat people as if they're dogs. This is their job and I do not understand why they get so mad and frustrated when you pleasantly ask that they alter something, that they screwed up in the first place. It is their JOB! And they seem mad to have to serve their customers, choose another profession in that case customer service IS how you build your customer base in this field. Anyhow enough about the ranting. The nail polish job was hideous. And I asked him to redo it but as expected he told me that he couldn't do it any better.I left disappointed and very much regretful. I'm not someone who regularly gets my nails done, though I've gotten the occasional summer pedicure. I went in this spring before my sister's wedding to get both mani and pedi, lured by the lower price and later hours - $32 for both, and open till 8. My pedicure was fine, though I noticed later that it was messier than I could tell from standing up - there was extra polish on my skin, not just neatly on the nail. But my manicure was terrible. Cuticles and surrounding skin ended up as dry and messy as they normally are. The polish chipped the next day. I had a bit of dirt under my nails from gardening the previous day, and not even that was cleaned up. I could have done a better job myself, though I had hoped for something more professional. It may be that others at this salon are better, but the man who helped me did a terrible job. I won't be going back. read more

I was a regular here for about 3 years until I changed jobs and moved a few months ago. I get acrylics every 2 weeks and pedicures. Kenny, May and Vi do all the acrylic work and they are are very, very good. They are also really friendly and seem to have a great relationship with all their regulars (of which there are many). 2 stars is me being nice!!!Seems overpriced for certain things. Never does the price actually match their price charts. Charged $8 to fix one broken nail. Then I find it very rude to not give the customer what they are specifically asking for but instead try to persuade them to do what you want. Always looking for extra ways to charge money. I came to them and got a full set which did not last and began to lift she then instructed me to get another full set and for basic nails only color was $70. Then told me she can only give me the shape I want if I get them a certain length which she charged for then she said they were too long and I should pay to get them cut down! Please stay away from this nail salon! They are just horrible. Today I went in for a full set and an eyebrow wax. The guy who did my nails did a horrible job where he just didn't care. For my eyebrows this obnoxious lady did it and she waxed half of my eyebrows off. I have uneven brows. Both people didn't care and when I complained they simply said sorry and tried to justify themselves. How do you justify stupidity. I wanted a round tip for my full set and he made them square. This place is terrible terrible terrible customer service. the man at the shop is very rude they have signs everywhere directing the customer how to behave for example not hold in hand more than one nail polish at a time or they will be charged 3$ if it is broken when their nail varnish is old and they have to put at least four coats on to make it look decent .
