I've driven past Lovey's a few times and finally had the chance to try it out. It's not a big place, you may even need to share a table, but it's so warm and cozy. There are a lot of nice tea options along with a variety of tea services. I came with three other ladies and we each did a tea service that included one pot of tea, two different sandwiches, slaw, salad, a scone and a cookie. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the sandwiches, but be sure to ask for the sandwich of the day . . . it seems to be extra special. I have to say those are the best tasting scones I've had in a long time, possibly ever! I really liked it with the lemon curd. The service was excellent as well. read more

I came to Sunnyvale to visit my sister. I love afternoon tea! So my sister, who is not a big fan, agreed to go with me. Well, she was SO IMPRESSED! And that takes some skill. The service was warm and friendly. The food was delicious! And the tea was served HOT, as it should be. ((Nothing worse than lukewarm tea!)) The space is cozy, charming and beautifully decorated. Lovely small cozy tea shop in the most unassuming location. I would bring my tea fan friends and know that they would enjoy it. The staff is really sweet, the decor cute and charming, and the scones soooooo delicious that I wanted more. One major negative is that the tea shop doesn't have AC and it was incredibly hot inside. We ordered 4 "High Teas" which included 2 sandwiches, a pot of tea, a scone with cream and preserves, shortbread, and salad for about $20. We added the chicken pot pie and a couple sausage rolls. The food was extremely tasty and well done; teas were aromatic and flavorful. Decor is perfectly English Country without being overly floral. The service was fantastic and it's always so cute to see little girls having their birthday party there. Definitely recommend getting a reservation. There is usually easy parking out front but I would get there 10 mins before your reservation just to make sure you snag a spot since it does get busy. I took a friend here last Sunday for her birthday and we had the most wonderful experience. The service was impeccable, our server kept refreshing our tea pots with more hot water to keep the tea from getting too strong, and the food was fab. This is my favorite tea place. I love the small place with all the high tea stuff. We found this place while staying at the hotel during our 25 years anniversary. We came back many times. I also buy some cute stuff from them as well. As a tea going person, I feel this place has good tea, good price and perfect location!!!(near the water)!!!! I have been here a few times for their tea service, and each time the food, tea and staff have been wonderful! They were the first place I thought of when I was tasked with throwing a Bridal Shower! I made sure to plan it early since I wanted to buy them out of a space of time, which they were able to do for me. They answered all of my questions and were very organized for what they needed from me. They were even able to make PB&J sandwiches for me (since we had kids and the Bride loves them). The event went smoothly and the staff did a wonderful job working with me and my games that I wanted to play! I would definitely go back for just tea service, but I would also love to plan another event with them, since the guests enjoyed it as well! read more

This tea shop is cozy enough, but very small and kinda loud because it's right off the highway. Sandwiches weren't too fresh. Bread was stale. Fresh, soft bread is crucial for tea sandwiches. Otherwise, $49 for the Queen's Tea (includes mandatory 20% gratuity) for a party of five) is better well spent on higher quality tea shops that are consistent with the freshness of their food. My daughter and I had the sweetest experience at Lovey's. We made a reservation for a memorial celebration of a beloved family cat. After seating us, Gillian asked us to share the kitty's story, which made our visit feel even more special. The two of us shared the Queen's tea which came on a three-tiered tray loaded with goodies. The sandwiches were pristine and the warm scone and crumpet were deliciously satisfying. Everything about the meal and service was spot on. Had no idea what to expect but a friend recommended we visit Lovey's. Went with the kids and another family with kids and it was a fabulous experience. The tea was quite flavorful - I had the Decaf Black Vanilla. The food was quite tasty and fresh as well - I had the "Healthy Tea" meal with salmon, salad, crackers, and fruit. We had been to Lovey's before, in person, and enjoyed it. My daughters really enjoy going to tea with me, and we have visited most locations in the Bay Area. With the restaurant closures and restrictions during our current situation, I have been trying to support our local favorite places. Lovey's started doing tea to go, and we have ordered several times! It's so nice to still be able to have a fun tea time with my girls and support local at the same time. All the items are packed so carefully and well. The sandwiches are so tasty, and my older daughter just loves the crumpets. Food and tea were good. We booked this place for my friend's birthday. We were having a good time. Time limit is supposed to be 2 hours but the waitress kicked us out of our table before our time was up, even though there were other table that had just been unoccupied. And as we were leaving the waitress was complaining about her tip in front of the other customers. If she had a problem to begin with she should have brought it up to our attention before she even kicked us out of the table and while we were paying the bill. It's very disappointing because this was the second time we had come to this place as we really enjoyed it. Unfortunately due to this bad customer service we will not be coming here again. read more

This place is absolutely adorable! I've been here twice with friends, and each time was magical. The first time I came, my friend who has Celiacs was delighted to find that they have a selection of gluten free products, all equally as delicious as the regular menu items. The bottomless tea that comes with each selection is probably my favorite part--the servers are very friendly and attentive and constantly making sure your own personal tea pot is refreshed. There was almost nothing I didn't love about this place, from the eclectic decor to the delicious scones to the wide selection of teas. The only downside was that it is a bit crowded, especially with the bridal shower happening in the corner, but we had a reservation and were well taken care of. I heard wonderful things about this tea shoppe, and considering it is the only business I've seen succeed in a difficult location for more than a year, I had high hopes. My first experience was a bridal shower Queen's Tea in September. The tea was good...sandwiches were marginal and the scones were tough. Loved the decor and the eclectic, non-matching china. I was less than impressed at the rudeness the waitress showed when turning other potential customers away (the bridal party rented the entire place). Yesterday, I came for a reservation for a high tea birthday party. For nearly 30 bucks a person -tip included- you would hope to not be packed in like sardines. I really suspect this place routinely exceeds fire marshal recommendations. I felt like I had to climb over strollers and other customers to get to my seat. The tea was still nice, but the sandwiches were very dry. To say it was *storming* yesterday was an understatement. Our group paid and tried to take a quick picture inside before heading out...only to have the waitress become extremely rude and tell us to head to the door. It's just not worth the price, lack of seating, mediocre food and snarky service...there are much better places for a decent tea in the bay area. Yeah..I won't be coming back. read more

My husband went into Lovey's to see what is on their menu. We have just started a strict Keto diet so we weren't sure there would be anything for us here. Gillian was sure they could meet our needs and went and got Nina who sat down with us and asked about what we could and could not eat. They presented us with the most wonderful lunch, all Keto friendly. Spinach and Cremini soup with coddled cream, smoked salmon and cream cheese, turkey with Dijon mustard, roast beef with horseradish, cucumbers, tomatoes, mixed greens with a balsamic vinaigrette. Not to mention a wonderful tea called Dragonwell. We have a lot of favorite restaurants, but this was by far the most accommodating. Very tasteful and affordable. Extremely rude service! I came in here once before with my BF and had a great experience. Everyone was really nice and quick to get us everything. However, when I tried to make a reservation there for my birthday two months ago they left me a message the day before demanding that I change my reservation to a different time because they "didn't want to be sitting around waiting for us all day" so they could leave early (note: the reservation was only at 1 or 2 in the afternoon). Like wow, really? If you didn't want to be open on a holiday you should've just kept it closed for the day. I ended up just canceling my reservation and went to a different tea house. Lovey's? LOVE it. Short of hosting an afternoon tea myself or going over to the UK, this is the best afternoon tea I've had outside of San Francisco. I got incredibly lucky with a reservation - usually it takes advance notice to get a reservation but I placed one last minute through their online app and got a call a couple hours later saying they had an opening. Score! The atmosphere was absolutely adorable, the food was spot on, and the best part: they KNOW tea. That's always something that has bugged me about other places I've gone. If you're serving me afternoon tea and don't know how to steep it or how it ought to be served then what are you doing? (That said: I also cannot stand snobs who judge you for breaking tea 'rules' - if I want milk in my earl grey, I'll do without the horrified look. The waitress and owner both were very welcoming and accommodating, so it was absolutely perfect in that regard as well.) I hate to hype up a place too much, because then it ruins the 'surprise' - so go try it for yourself, just make sure if you have a party larger than 2 that you make a res in advance! read more

We were in the area during a weekday and didn't intend to drop by for tea. Twice i wanted to go for tea but they were closed (see business hours), and this time I wanted to stay out of the rain and they were open during my walk, so i took a break before heading back to my car. We ordered rose tea (i preferred chai but they didnt' have it on the menu) and ordered the Queen's afternoon tea. The tea came in a big pot and it stayed very hot. The food was ok. I didn't see much of space, so it seems to be difficult for them to create the pastries from scratch. My food came with some salad and cucumber in the salad. Cucumber is so easy to go bad, it should not be pre-cut and can be so easily cut spot-on. I dont think that is the most ideal location for a tea shop, simply b/c it's not quiet and there needs to be a bigger space for an appropriate kitchen to bake the pastries. It should smell like a bakery! For $30 per person (tea time isn't cheap!) i expect the quality to be at a decent bakery or better. We had tea in Japantown and the food was very fresh (they baked it there multiple times daily) & there is much more foot traffic. Prices seem to be comparable to other places. But b/c it is on Hwy 1, as one reviewer mentioned, you will hear traffic whizz by. Not exactly relaxing if you want to have a nice tea session. :) read more

Well I do root for the little guy every chance I get having been a small retail business owner, but try as I might I can't overlook some basic disappointments with Lovey's. I had booked an afternoon spot several months ago anticipating a special birthday trip from Nevada. About a week ago got a call that the tea shop was expecting a large party and could we move our time to later? I try to be helpful whenever I can so no problem I say and that would probably make our tea more relaxing in any case to not do it at the same time. So the day arrives and we drive through congested San Fran traffic from our hotel in San Rafael and are excited to have our tea. We show up right at the scheduled time and there are several tables seated and only 2 tables for 2 open in this tiny shop. We stand around for several minutes pretending to browse and are passed by a wait person until finally a different person noticed us. Bear in mind this place is so small that 3 long strides would cover the distance from end to end. I finally get asked if we want to have tea and I say yes we have reservations. The place is hot even with 4 small fans rotating in different spots - our choice to sit is crammed in next to a mewling baby and mother and absolutely no air, or right smack in front of the open door, complete with astoundingly loud traffic and astoundingly "dim sum restaurant" loud large parties. Okay - I try to push away the feelings of doom. We sit. The wait person asks what we want - the tea choices are sparse - some uninformed commentary about our tea knowledge (i'm sure I had more than the wait person) based on the limited choices made. We go for high tea. Waiting for tea we note the rather uncomfortable chairs we are crammed into, we cannot sit across from each other but at a sort of "L" around the rickety table. The noise is astonishing. Is this really an English tea shop?... With paper napkins not cloth? Tea comes as we try to paste smiles on our faces for the sake of the wait person. As our plates are tilted onto the too small table, someone who knows the wait person hollers across us that they are leaving, and the wait person in turn, standing near me, hollers next to my ear to reply to the person. Holy shit. I am not believing this experience. Food- quickly-- which is how we ate it in order to get the hell out of hell's kitchen - scone was good, little sandwiches were good, a bit bland but marks for carrying Branston pickle chutney. The tiny shortbread cookie was not really a complement to the meal. Tea was just okay. I have had many many afternoon teas from US, Canada and England and all I can say is don't go out of your way unless you like the sound of roaring traffic and the smell of exhaust in your nose as you try to enjoy possibly the most uncomfortable tea you will ever have. I cannot praise this place enough. My mom and sister threw my bridal shower at Lovejoy's in SF, and I had no idea the two were related until today when a friend and I went in to check it out. I was so glad, because I already knew it would be super good. The tea selection is impressive, and the waitress helped us choose our teas. We went with the Vanilla Lavender Black Tea, which was impossibly delicious(especially considering I don't usually like floral teas too much), and the Chestnut tea, which is homey, rich and perfect on a cold day. I had to buy both to take home with me. The scones are SO GOOD. And the lemon curd, the preserves, and the crumpets! I'm not a huge fan of the sandwiches, but there's a great selection and my friend liked them a lot. I stuffed myself and managed to drink at least a pot or two between the two teas we ordered that were consistently refilled. It's such a special place. The place is small, but it adds to the quiant, ecclectic atmosphere. The tea sets are charmingly mismatched, and most of the artwork and tons of tea supplies and gifts are for sale. The owner has such great taste; everything just belongs. It's a bit pricey for light fare, but it's completely worth it. You HAVE to go, there's really no other place like it on the Peninsula. The spot is notorious for revolving restaurants, but this one is already so popular I hope it's here to stay. GO! read more
