I'd like to start by saying I've been purchasing cakes from their stores for over 15 years - they have been my go to for every birthday, special moment and random craving. Back in February, I ordered custom cupcakes for my son's 6th birthday. When I arrived to pick them up, I was told they had mistakenly given my order to someone else. Thankfully, they were able to pull enough from the bakery shelves to patch something together so I didn't show up empty-handed. We made it work and my son was none-the-wiser. Last week, I placed another order for my boyfriend's birthday: two dozen gourmet cookies, a dozen donuts, and a custom cake with a printed photo. When I showed up today, the cookies and donuts were there--but no cake. After speaking with the staff at the RL location (she was wonderful and understanding of my frustration) I got mixed answers. First I was told the order was missing information and therefore not made (they have all my contact info in the system from multiple orders over the years), then after a follow up question I was told the ticket didn't print and was missed. Regardless of what actually happened, the bottom line is the same: the cake wasn't made. They did refund the cake and gave me two smaller cakes with similar flavors, which I appreciate--but this is now the second time I've had a major issue with a birthday order. I'm not sure how half the order got fulfilled and no one noticed the main item was missing before sending it out. I get that it's just a cake, but for me, it's the principle. These moments matter. And when you're planning something special for someone you love, you want it to be right. Long time customer with 1st time having an issue. Picked up a cake that I had ordered for a birthday. It's one of their standard cakes, strawberry parfait that i wanted to make sure they had available day of and super fresh! They brought out the cake to me in a huge box and slightly opened for me to peek inside. I get home to get a good look and there is crack on side and you can totally tell this is one that has been sitting in the fridge for pick up and go cake. We get a lot of cakes here. It's conveniently located and has plenty of cute and tasty cakes, as well as plenty of other pastries such as coffee cake, muffins, cookies and many others. This time we bought a cake shaped like the grinch for a Christmas themed party. As it turns out, they didn't have any containers or boxes that fit this cake. So the box was taped together in a partly closed way which made it awkward to carry. After getting it home and carefully holding it from only the bottom, we found that they had still crushed the top a bit when trying to get it in the box. It was just the hat on the head, but it's still disappointing. You get a cake like this to display it and a smashed top really ruins the image. The cake was at least still very good flavor wise, but they shouldn't be making cakes that they can't fit into their boxes. read more

I could not be more disappointed. The price of the cakes continues to rise for less cake meaning a smaller size cakes that ate premade than they used to sell and whats worse is they cannot even decorate them for you how you want them. The cakes are generally good but not worth it if they cannot make it my own when needed. I sure hope wedding cakes keep them in business because it is the smaller occasion cakes that make people try and lear. To like them so they would want to buy a wedding cake. read more

I'm giving 1 star because the cake was delicious. I ordered wedding cake for my daughters wedding. I asked for cake to feed 150 guests. My venue said I had enough cake for 500. I had 3 full sheets left over after following the recommended order amount. More frustrating is I have tried to call (at the venues suggestion) 3 times and been asked to leave a message for the manager, which I did and which has never been returned. I then drove there twice (I'm 30 minutes away) and was also asked to leave a message. Still no response. I've been very nice. Just wanted to let them know my order was WAY over the amount needed hence much more expensive than necessary. Cake was so good but customer service severly lacking. Disappointed. read more

I went to pick up the tray, and the girl brought it out saying "They did not have your order. They only sent a regular pastry tray." No sorry, no explanation ,no here's what we can do... I was fighting back tears. She then said "We don't make the stuff here. They make it in Antioch. I can give you $15.00 off." I explained that I had ordered what I did for very specific reasons. We did not want anything with coffee/mocha flavors/fruit fillings/etc.... We wanted brownies, Christmas trees, eclairs, and cheesecakes. We got TWO Christmas trees, three brownies, three eclairs, and cheesecakes covered in fruit. We got a lot of mocha and fruit filled stuff. The girl ended up giving me a refund. I felt guilty, sad, disappointed, and most of all, let down, because my big Christmas dessert was ruined. I had ordered this before, so I do not know what happened. I have gone here for years and I believe they have a new owner. Went in to purchase cookies and order a stolen. One line for cookies- 15 minutes. It happens- Saturday, Holiday Season and 3 people. But to order? After paying I have to start in another line. Every single person who came in the store for the next 32 minutes - yes, I detailed because I wanted to make sure I wasn't blowing this out of perspective- they were each taken before me. That includes all retail walk-in customers. One employee left- and I got to watch as they walked from finishing out an order, looking around, making a phone call, then walking out back. The same one who rang me up in the first place. Yes, I objected at that point and they said she'd be back. THEN took the next three retail customers! When they took my order, it took literally 3 minutes with only- " we have one register so-" As we look at three registers. They did my weddings and so many more but this is absolutely the last time I will ever go here. The lack of interest- not one smile for anyone- and complete disregard for customers and common sense is more than I'm able to support. So so disappointing read more

When I went, the sign said Open, but the doors were locked. Employees and customers were still inside, but they wouldn't open the door so I could purchase a cake quickly. Price: Paid $78.09 for a simple three layer chocolate cake to serve 35 - chocolate mousse icing and chocolate fudge filling between each layer. 4. Iridian: She was very sweet the day the cake was made. I called to request a photo of the cake and she sent it to me quickly. I really appreciate the effort the decorator made to match the font. It looked different than their typical cake writing, and they clearly worked to match the font I wanted. Cons 1. Lack of effective communication to place order. * I sent a detailed email describing the cake and when I'd need it. Next morning, I received a response asking when I'd need it. (?) * I called after receiving the email, was told I'd get a call back, and never did. * I called again before closing; was told they'd likely have to call me next day. * I called again the next day and finally talked to someone. 2. Attention to detail: * They got the color of the cake flowers wrong, despite: * Over the phone, I asked for pink flowers and said no red flowers. * In my initial email, I sent a mockup with the correct color of flowers. * Also in my initial email, I sent a link to party flowers, asking to match them. * I STILL GOT RED FLOWERS ON THE CAKE. Kind of irritating for the price. My suggestions when ordering from them: 1. Be prepared to possibly have some communication frustrations. 2. Make sure your INVOICE includes all your specifications - such as specific colors you want on the cake, whether a photo will be matched, etc. If it does not, call them AND email them right away to specify again. After some errands in Antioch, decided to take a local drive back to V Hills. Figured I'd find some bakery or local grocer with some local yum I could share with family. On the drive through I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the name Lovin' Oven! I had to stop.... #petitfours my absolute favorite! This shop isn't as decorated as the one that closed in Libertyville. Though whomever is choosing the layout and desserts for display in their many refrigerated showcases is doing a great job. The colors pop and draw your attention to just about everything. There are so many desserts, cookies, donuts, cupcakes and more it is very easy to miss out on something interesting. The best part of the experience is that, no matter what you choose, there is always a reason for another visit. (I just wish the trek wasn't so out of the way for me.) Two favorites of mine; their donuts and large petit fours. Recently I wanted to get a tray catered for an event, unfortunately due to timing near the 4th of July, I just couldn't get it done. It's a good FYI to check their calendar via website to see when they are available & planning breaks from the bake shop so that you don't run into a similar bummer. read more

I just can't seem to win with this bakery. Over the years their quality has declined. This used to be my most favorite spot for sweet treats. We decided to attempt to give them one more go for my daughters first and sons 9th birthday party. I called and asked for a simple request. The request was a smash cake for my girls 1st birthday. This was a special cake for us because we have been exclusively breastfeeding for a whole year. She's my first after 3 babies. I asked if they could make me a smash cake in the shape of a breast.
