Lowcountry may be the best seafood boil spot in the city! The ambiance of the place is super chill... it's equipped with picnic table setups with white and red checkered tablecloths. You order both food and drinks at the counter and then they bring the food to you. My group of four ordered a boil with mussels (biggest I've ever seen), crab legs, corn, sausage and shrimp and it was delicious. We ordered a spice level 2 (highest is 4) and it had just enough heat for me (i have average heat tolerance). Do not sleep on the jalapeño cornbread, either!! The boils is SO flavorful you literally want to get down and dirty in the bag and lick every last ounce of the sauce. Don't worry, there's a hand washing station and bibs for easy cleanup! This location is inferior to Lowcountry Lakeview. Think watered down quality. I kinda have a feeling why but I won't go there. If you've been to the lake view one and come here get ready for disappointment. The lake view restaurant was the best seafood boil in my life. We had an attentive waitress. The south loop location first off was an hour wait when we finally get a table it was another 35 + minutes to get our food. The floor is sticky and be prepared cause kids may be running back and forth through the restaurant with no supervision. I won't blame the restaurant for that but it certainly didn't help things. And you don't get a waitress, you have to order at the register first. The food was good but not like how I remember it. The server brought out our seafood boil. I had Cajun snow crab legs with potatoes, corn on the cob, cornbread and beignets. Now let me tell you who brings out snow crab legs and don't bring out crab breaking utensils?. The last time I visited Lowcountry I had ordered my food for carry out. This time, my friend and I took the time to savor our food and the restaurant ambiance by dining in. It was another successful meal done by Lowcountry!! The restaurant is very casual and they have lots of seating to accommodate large and small groups of people. The tables are fashioned as picnic tables since the dinner style is more family style meant for sharing. They even give you bibs so you don't get your clothes dirty! I love it! The staple menu options remained the same from my last visit but they definitely stepped up their game by adding some new menu options. Their happy hour deal of 1 pound of mussels with french fries for $10 is a great deal. We tried it and thought it was delicious. The mussels were huge and meaty! Wow! During our visit they also offered red curry mac and cheese. It sounded so exotic we just had to try it and we're glad we did because it was also delicious. To round out our meal we also ordered the 1 pound shrimp combo which included shrimp, potatoes, corn, corn bread and a drink. Its a great deal for all the items you get. All of it was delicious, especially in the level 1 spice "everythang" sauce (a mix of garlic, lemon pepper and cajun spice). For dessert we ordered the beignets. I was so happy to see that the beignets were covered completely in powered sugar. It was delicious and had just the perfect amount of sweetness to it. It also was not greasy at all which I appreciated. The service provided by the staff at Lowcountry was above and beyond. This restaurant is a self service restaurant where you first order your food/drink, then pay for your food, and then grab a table to eat at. I was not expecting any type of service but when the food was delivered, they cut up the bags for us to enjoy!! Then during our meal someone checked on us not just once, but a handful of times, just to see if we needed anything to make our dining experience more enjoyable. Again, definitely more service than I was expecting at a self service type restaurant. I wasn't sure how to take my leftovers home but one of the staff here directed me to an area in the restaurant where they have boxes and bags for the left overs. How lovely!! I do think they can add a few ppl at the register and if your asking us to wait to be seated please have someone checking the front area for new guest so we aren't waiting forever. FOOD- meh If I had to chose between here and two fish. Two fish definitely wins on flavor but service is a whole other story whoa Chile....I digress. This boil is NOT flavorful at all. The shrimp were very non relevant corn was yummy potatoes to mushy. The fried pickles were actually tasty just too many. Fries really represented And that cornbread HUNTY smack yo mama good! I would go back just for that. But it's a boil place not soul food so.... So my next gripe is that it was Fa-rezzin in there. It's December in Chicago only about 28 degrees and they have the fans going no heat with the biggest draft ever. Don't even think about sitting close to the door if you can help it. I definitely enjoyed this location downtown. The ambience was great. It is a tad bit expensive than any other seafood restaurant with the same items in other areas of the world. The only issue I had was that they needed better combo options. I think I spent over $100 for everything I ordered . But I was highly satisfied with the quality taste and quantity of the food I order. I got lobster, snow crab and shrimp and potatoes and corn. They even give you Mexican cornbread which by the way was the best of its kind I tasted ( they know something lol). I order the flavor everything I think I got medium. That flavor omg was soooo good! I put them on my overall top list of seafood places. Heck with the others this one to me was the Best! If I'm every in the area I would definitely visit again. There are a few crab boil places now in the city, which is great because for the longest time it felt like they were everywhere else in the country already. Places like Boiling Crab were legit destination spots while visiting the west coast. Now, not only are they in Chicago, but one opened up not far from home. The first time I came here was for happy hour, which is on weekdays from 5pm-7pm. At the time they had half off beers and $10 for mussels and fries. It was actually a pretty fun time, since it was pretty easy to just put in another order of mussels as more friends joined in, and it's hard to beat the fun of having a large tap on your table. The mussels and fries are a great drinking snack, and the spice and flavoring is just enough. The wife and I also recently came here for dinner, and crab legs are one of her most often craved foods (along with pizza and sushi). We got a bag with crab, shrimp, and mussels with their everythang sauce and level two spiciness. Level two is perfect if you like heat, but don't want it to blow out your palette. The everythang sauce was super savory, rich and garlicky with hints of citrus popping through. We could probably have used more citrus or limes on the side, but it was still good to the point where we were happily peeling and dipping the night away. It was surprisingly busy for a cold weekday night, but not so busy that we couldn't get a seat, and the food didn't take long at all. I came into this establishment yesterday, excited to celebrate a recent accomplishment. Upon walking it, I was greeted with the MOST FRIENDLY HOST, who sat me at the table. The second I got to the table I realized I left my phone in the cab I just got out of. The host allowed me to use the phone to call my cab who was still in the area. My phone is attached to my wallet which meant I was stranded at the restaurant. You may be asking what this has to do with low country.. well.. The host was so COMPLETELY FRIENDLY and was the MOST HELPFUL HUMAN BEING OF THE DAMN NIGHT! That he made a really bad and stressing experience for me, better, simply by being a supportive person. Fast forward 3 hours, and a lot of stress and panic.. I was finally able to get a taxi so I can go and get my phone. Which was a hour drive from the restaurant. Once I finally got my phone, I had an option of going home.. or going back to the restaurant. I went back to low country and ordered my large fest, (that I was wayyyy too exhausted to eat) simply because of the positive experience I received. I wish I asked his name, and the other individual who periodically came by to check in with me. Both of these young men came in the clutch for me last night and I truly appreciate it. Even if you don't like seafood, I recommend this establishment and location, simply because of their VERY helpfully friendly staff. It was a cold, blustery night where you needed something warm to eat. Enters my seafood haven. We walk in and immediately get seated on a Friday night. It's usually packed on the weekends. You have a menu on the picnic tables, you go through and chose what you want by the pound, choose your sauce and sides. You go up to the front to order food. We are use to the boil bag so the concept wasn't foreign. The flavor was good but I've had better. Way too much seasoning in the bag and not enough butter. We had to ask foe butter and it kinda taste like movie theatre butter. They have basically have two different price list. Ordering from the bar there will be a forced 18% gratuity included with your bill. The prices ordering from him on top of that is another 10% higher! The atmosphere genre or music was Rap. I've always been a fan of the lowcountry in Wrigley, so I was excited to know that one opened up in the South loop. I have been many times since it's opening so this is a super duper late review. First difference from the Wrigley location, no servers. On most days, you can seat yourself, you fill out your paper, you walk up to the register and pay for your food and wait for the food to come out. On second thought the whole "no server" thing is really wierd because there are people walking around offering to help you order, and the food is brought to you so really, the difference is you pay before you eat. The flavor and quality of the food is hit or miss. Some days it's really good, other days not so much. Are mussels supposed to taste gritty? Because good Lord I feel like I'm picking them right off the beach and throwing sand in my mouth. On a good cooking day, they have a pound of mussels for $10 during their m-f happy hour and it's worth it. The real winner of this place is the bar and music. They play nothing but hip-hop, and the bartenders are cool and give a nice pour. I guess what I'm saying is, the place is good depending on the day. Dined in on a Tuesday night, there was only about a 5-10 minute wait when we got there. As others have said, this place is first come first serve so it really depends on chance and the dinner rush! As far as parking, street or lot is going to be the main way to go considering this is the South Loop, but it's right next to the Roosevelt stop if you're down with the CTA. We were a party of 3 but ordered the dinner for 2 as well as an order of fried pickles and it was definitely a good amount of food for all of us! The cornbread was AMAZING, definitely a favorite of mine from the meal! Fried pickles also hit the spot very well, they were very nicely cooked! As for the seafood boil itself, I would say it's decent and something that's definitely worth the novelty, but I don't think it's something I'd crave and want to come back for solely. Make sure to ask for gloves as the smell of the seafood Cajun seasoning is definitely going to stick on you even after multiple hand washes! Overall very cute execution and dining area, love the little bibs they give you and just the overall simple experience that eating here entails. You advertised EVERYWHERE that you would! 3. You wouldn't answer the phones! Not even a voice mail message to explain in person orders only. Just a busy tone (took the phone off the hook). 4. When we went to order in person, you told us a 1.5 hour wait for food and accepted over $200 for our bill. 5. After waiting 1.5 hours you said we would have to wait ANOTHER 1.5 hours. 6. After waiting yet ANOTHER 1.5 hours you said wait still ANOTHER Hour. We had spent since 3:30pm trying to place and get an order. We placed our order around 4:30pm. Us Sloopers have been waiting for a place like this for a long time! I'm a huge fan of the lakeview location and this one is even better. It's always packed, but we haven't had to wait yet. The decor is legit, makes you feel like you're in a clean modern swamp. Everything has a good balance of string lights, fake trees, and wooden furniture. The ordering can be a bit confusing because people approach you and sit you down, yet you still have to go order for yourself. I always see the owner when we go there, it's a good sign when the management is hands on. Most importantly, the food: -Garlic noodles are a must your first time here. It's a ton of garlic but that's what makes it so good -Cajun fries are actually good, they had a nice strong cajun flavor and it was also sweet. It's a pretty small basket for $6, so probably not always worth it -Jalapeno cornbread... the wife loves this.. the jalapeno bits in there make it delicious, otherwise pretty standard cornbread -Crawfish... this is the only reason we come here. The sauce and flavor is strong af, it's what you want and we can't get enough of it. The owner has a good eye for quality of crawfish so he picks the good quality and sized ones. The hot is not that hot, so if you like spicy i'd go up one level. At $13 a lb, it is kind of steep, but that's a geographical limitation, it will always be pricier up here than in the south. We usually get 3 lbs of crawfish and 2 sides for 2 people. We always leave too full, so I'd only get 1 side.. good luck picking that one side :) read more

The food was delicious I chose "everythang" my server recommended spice level 3 .. Love the Look of Lowcountry restaurant. It was my first time here so I call to see if they're Handicap access. Call leaving message but never got a call Back?? That's why I took 1 star away. Now the Restaurant is Beautiful with green Plants hanging from Ceiling and Picnic tables. Each table has a Roll of paper towels . When you first come in you are Welcome with a Smile asked how many in your Party and your Number card to keep on your table. Then you go to the Back and Order your FOOD!!! IT'S MY DAUGHTER BIRTHDAY so we had the Meal for 2 add Garlic noodles with Alcohol Drinks. She doesn't like spicy food ( DAMN) so we #1 not spicy but lots of GARLIC. Totally delicious yumminess. The Drinks were very nice!!! Our meal had 1lb Head off Shrimps, 1lb Snowcrab leggs, corn, red potatoes can't forget the Jalapeno Cornbread Buttery yummy. The food didn't take to long to come out, they give you a pail with Bibs and crackers to open the Crab legs and plastic gloves if you want them. Not for Us we got Down and Dirty so Food on the table and they asked if we them to Cut the bag open or just untie. We just untie it and the Wonderful smell of Garlic Garlic SLAP SLAP you in Face!!! We love Garlic in our Family so we were Happy!! The Shrimps were nice size very Fresh also the Crab Legs. The Butter Garlic sauce is all over the corn and potatoes , Seafood YESSSSS . Just dig in and Lick your Fingers. Found my New place for Seafood.to take Family and Friends you can add Lobster tails or clams to your Bags. It's Plenty of food with the Garlic Noodles and still had food to take Home. GO you will LOVE IT!!! read more
