I'm a fast-casual-restaurant-kind of gal. "Lowcountry" in South Loop, therefore, is an ideal place for me when I want to eat out, except having seafood boiled-in-a-bag cannot exactly go "fast" because some crustaceans need to be "processed" before delivering to the mouth. There's no server in the dining room, and ordering is done at the register. To make our lives easier, we simply went with the "combo for 2" the first time hubby and I were there. For $52 (as of 09/01/2018), we had 1 lb. of shrimp (heads-off), 1 lb. of snowcrab, an order of potatoes, corn, and signature jalapeño corn bread. On top of all the food, two (2) bottle or can drinks were included. We stayed with the level 1 spice and everything sauce (combination of garlic, lemon pepper, and Cajun). We spent the next two (2) hours to devour all that deliciousness. There was no time (nor capacity) to check our phones and go to those petty social media sites. In other words, we had great fun chatting and enjoy the quality time we had together. Yes, bring a date to "Lowcountry" if he or she doesn't mind the strong, garlicky, mixed spice smell. I certainly don't. Their weekday (M to F) happy hours (5-7pm) have some awesome deals! Mussels and fries are for $10, along with half-off wine and beer and $24 sangria pitcher. I don't typically have much appetite after getting off work because I take late lunch, so this much food is enough for me and I get to relax and unwind a bit. I actually prefer the South Loop location because paid street parking can be found on Wabash by the Jewel-Osco. We came to Lowcountry on a recent visit to Chicago. I've previously had their food at another location and dreamed about being able to come back to enjoy. We both ordered a boil, one combo and one make your own with everythang sauce. I'm a little sad we both got the same sauce because it just didn't taste right. I'm not sure if the lemon used had rind on it or what but the sauce tasted acrid and made some of it inedible. We of course loved the corn bread and ordered extra for our train trip home but it was a disappointing trip to lowcountry this time. The seafood was cooked really well it's just the sauce that ruined the flavor. I'd give it another chance in a future visit to Chicago but may think about other options first. This is a casual, fun restaurant. Venue: you are assigned a table with an order number, then you place your order at the counter. The restaurant is lively and has TVs throughout. There is a community sink to get water and wash your hands, grab towels, etc. F&B: the food is cooked upon order, so takes a bit (we bring activities for the kids to keep them occupied when waiting, so this was handy). It comes out in a bag with everything together, a little bun for shells, and a few tools for cracking the shells. The kids (9/11) loved it. The younger one wasn't able to crack the shells and the 11 yo wasn't much better - but they really enjoyed giving it their best. We had a great time and the shellfish was great. We also ordered the fried Oreos and cornbread. I ordered way too much for the group, but loved having the corn/potatoes for leftovers. I liked the Oreos, but my kids did not. read more

Came to get dinner from here yesterday. We got some seafood boil, fried pickles, fried Oreos and jalapeño corn breads. I would say fried pickles is pretty good. Not too much breading. The corn bread was not bad either. Have a little sweet in it. The seafood we got two pounds of snow crabs, one pound of mussels and side of sausages, corns and potatoes. The sauce we got the everything sauce. This is my first time trying at this place I always see a lot of people taking order from here. The sauce I'm not a really fan of it...I'm use to the buttery and more spice. I love garlic but this is too much garlic and salt too. Maybe I pick the wrong sauce. This location was similar to the one I had previously been to in Chicago but was smaller and in size and menu offerings. However, it was no less tasty. As previsouly, the food was delicious! We opted for shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn and broccoli, seasoned to perfection. And the honey jalapeno cornbread is pure bliss! Oh, how I love that cornbread! My husband and I were in a mood for seafood! We expected there would be a lengthy wait, however, we were greeted by Deonte and the wait didn't seem long at all. Deonte escorted us to the bar where my husband order the rum punch and frosé for me. I was surprised at how strong the frosé was, I liked that! Shortly after, we were escorted to our table where we were handed two menus and it was explained to us that we had to place our order at the register. At each table sits rolls of napkins. After placing your order you are given a bucket full of utensils, gloves and aprons. The decor was festive, I like how they incorporated the Mardi Gras theme. The music was hip, we were jammin' and eating! We ordered the popcorn chicken, fried pickles, a bag of snow crab, king crab, mussels and shrimp. That alone came with cornbread, potatoes and corn, we added sausage. I assumed the popcorn chicken and cornbread would be spicy considering the jalapeños, both were seasoned well and our son was able to try them. Now I love fried pickles, these were decent but could be better. They pair it with ranch dip. For our bag we chose the everything sauce. It was bomb! Next time we go, I have to crank the heat up! It is listed with 2 $$, Needs to be more like 10 $$. My husband and I ate there tonight, each getting the 1# King Crab legs for $75.00 each and waffle fries. After waiting 60 minutes, they brought our waffle fries out... they were cold. 25 minutes late they brought out our King Crab. Both our orders were in 1 bag and when we opened it, there were 4 pieces of crab legs, each about 5" long. That was supposed to be a total of 2# of crab legs? We said something to the waiter and he brought out another 5" leg and had the manager come over. She stated that it was indeed a total of 2# of crab. When we cracked one of the legs open, it was ice cold! For spending $220 I would have expected a better meal. One and done, won't ever go back and definitely would NOT recommend it. read more

My first visit to LowCountry was prior to the pandemic and we enjoyed our visit. I ordered my favorite Combo A, a side of fried wings and of course Beignets. All yummy for my tummy. Our food was packaged tight and no spillage before I got home. The shrimp were seasoned to my liking not too much but just right. I'm not a fan of crab clusters but man the meat was soft and tasty I wanted more. The cob corn, cornbread and diced potato's were a perfect compliment to my seafood. While many restaurants have lost their mojo after the pandemic I was hesitated to return but this business have not. We went in 2021 and the food was still amazing, the only hiccup was my Beignets had a little too much powder sugar but it's all good it's dust and wipes away easy. Coming from SoCal, I've always been skeptical of boil style places in the midwest because the OG of cajun style seafood in a bag comes from SoCal and we were by the ocean. Having recently moved to the South Loop, I can see Lowcountry from upstairs in a high-rise because of its twinkling patio but never knew what they're about. My friend, who's in love with cajun, was like we should totally try this Lowcountry since she's been to the one in Lakeview. At this location, it is order at the front and they bring the bags to your table. It is spacious inside which makes it perfect for large groups (we've been here with 10 people before, sitting at a high bench). There is also a bar with draft beers and Japanese whiskey cocktails amongst the basic cocktails. The atmosphere is pretty great. When the food came after about 10-15 min since ordering up front, we were all ready to dig in. You can find plastic gloves near the sinks (where you can wash your hands after as well)! We all have our bibs tied around our necks and ready to dive in with our hands. Usually, we (1-2 girls, 3-4 guys) order 2lb of shrimp, 1lb of mussels, and 1lb of snow crab legs with sausages, potatoes, and corn orders mixed in there. The pricing is great, to be honest, we usually end up spending a good $20/person split. PRO TIP: GET ONE FLAVOR PER BAG instead of just THE MANIAC (combo of all flavors). This way you can dip and mix each sauce as you'd like. The Combo flavor is really good too with a bomb of flavors in your mouth, making you salivate for more. We usually get the level 2 spicy, sometimes the 3, and it does vary at times. The spicy is thrilling and takes you on a journey for sure. It's definitely a love/hate relationship. Only been in the South Loop for 3 months and we've already been to Lowcountry at least 5-6 times. The host is always friendly and tries to get us in even though it can be packed at times. I would call this okay/good. I would not come back, however, is very interesting and a fun experience. I'm glad I tried it once. I do feel it is a great meal to share between 2 & would be a great first date. The fact that it is a little messy is a great factor to me. And they do supply you with all the tools to stay clean! We were taken to a table, a number was placed in the holder, and then the host left us. It was very odd. You walk up to the counter to order and the side that we all wanted to naturally enter is the exit. There is no sign for the entrance and we had to walk around a sink in the dining room. You get gloves to eat the food with so I don't really understand the sink. It feels a bit odd. The Feng shui could use improvement. The cashier seemed impatient with us, but it could've been a bad day who knows. We did not have to wait for a table and the food came quick and hot. The food was flavourful and tender/juicy as it should be. The flavour was good and present, which I DEFINITELY appreciate. There was some sort of odd taste to me, however, and the "everything" didn't taste like the everything that I am used to. This doesn't mean you should avoid it, but it was different. On my last day of my vacation I seen this place on yelp and seen the reviews and couldn't help myself. Arrived 30 mins early and there was a longline(But it was worth the wait trust me) there was employees outside greeting customers and directing them. They were very friendly. As I walked into the restaurant the atmosphere was awesome. It was cozy and had great music. So since it was my first time I was beyond excited. The girl at the register was very friendly and helped out alot. I got 1 pound of king crab legs and headless shrimp with all the fixings. The food came out super hot and all I can say is O M G it was so delicious the flavors the juice was everything. This was worth every dollar. Unlike their other location in Lakeview, when you arrive, you are given a table and a number, and when you're ready, you order in the back at a counter. The menu is pretty straightforward. Choose a combo or create your own. My favorite are the snow crab legs, so I usually get a pound of those, cajun spice, and level hot. I love spicy food, and I can confidently say their hot level is HOT! When the waiter brings your bag out, all the ingredients inside are still cooking. So the moment you open your bag, get to work! They provide you all the tools you need to crack, break, and tear into whatever protein you've decided. Pros: Food was good, really good. But, the garlic sauce was a lil bit too salty (but very tasty). We ordered the Payday w/a pound of shrimp, beignets, and fried oreos. Left full and even had a few shrimp for the next day. Cons: Customer service can be better, im still in awe that if I ordered claws, why do I have to get back out of my seat to go and specifically request a cracker? And when I asked, I get a blank stare like you don't know what I'm saying. What a real inconvenience. You took my order...give them to me, ugh! Not a total disappointment. 1st visit: after a 2 hour wait (in 2020 I believe- very new at the time), the set up caught me off guard as they don't provide waiter service. You could easily sit and waste valuable time expecting someone to come take your order. Although the sink is needed (washing hands) having it the middle of the room amongst diners can be sort of gross. Someone literally washed their whole face and mouth and proceeded to hawk and spit in this sink while I dined. Food was good. 2nd visit: (June 2022) I knew what to expect. Didn't waste time, but you can tell that they've now found the matrix to their operations. It's giving - cook the food ahead of time and reheat when we open. My corn was hard and cold. And compared to other seafood places, this one uses a little too much seasoning with their "liquid" ratio. Meaning their boil bags are drier making the food too salty/garlicky/spicy (whatever the seasoning choice). Additionally, after dining in numerous seafood establishments (and seafood ain't cheap) it appears that this place is definitely pricier. Came to eat on a Sunday not knowing they closed at 9pm, the couple before my friend & I was seated then they told us they were no longer seating people and they had closed at 9, however they seated that couple at 9:11 pm. If you close at 9 I would think no one be able to be seated. I really wanted to try, but if they are that selective don't know if this is a place I want to spend my money. Came here for a good ol boil and that's exactly what I got! To start off, the atmosphere here is wonderful. There's fun sailor detailing on the walls and TVs! It's definitely somewhere to go with a group. The four of us split a two person boil and got about five sides. The seafood was fantastic! The shrimp and crab legs were perfectly cooked, i loved the everything sauce- and it wasn't too spicy! We got the jalapeño corn bread and it was to die for!!! I'd totally recommend! I didn't know it's not a full service restaurant so when you arrive you have to wait to be seated then after you're seated you have to go order your food, get your silverwear and water if you want. This place opens at 4pm and there was a line of people waiting outside! I didn't have a reservation but we were able to sit right at 4pm and took the only available seats which was by the bar. They have a combo menu but our party of 2 decided to build our own. We went for shrimp, Alaskan king crab, everything sauce, potatoes, broccoli and a side of garlic noodles. We went with a very hot sauce level and we both have a high tolerance for heat and spice. However, next time we will stick with just hot. Very hot was REALLY very hot!! They were on point with it lol. If you also love sauce and like to drench your food in the sauce, I recommend ordering a side of sauce. The sauce in the bag wasn't as much as I would've liked. Next time I will be ordering more sauce! The bartender was super sweet and she took good care of us. I usually always go to the Lake View location, but I'm glad there's a location closer. Lowcountry may be the best seafood boil spot in the city! The ambiance of the place is super chill... it's equipped with picnic table setups with white and red checkered tablecloths. You order both food and drinks at the counter and then they bring the food to you. My group of four ordered a boil with mussels (biggest I've ever seen), crab legs, corn, sausage and shrimp and it was delicious. We ordered a spice level 2 (highest is 4) and it had just enough heat for me (i have average heat tolerance). Do not sleep on the jalapeño cornbread, either!! The boils is SO flavorful you literally want to get down and dirty in the bag and lick every last ounce of the sauce. Don't worry, there's a hand washing station and bibs for easy cleanup! Seated scanned menu , went up placed order and gave table number. He ordered the Payday snow crab shrimp corn potatoes and added eggs and sausage and flavor was everything sauce, which isn't for everyone. Food came out in timely manner and waiter cut bag open. The smell that hit me was garlic powder and lighter fluid , I'm not big on seafood but I usually follow lead. My Friend stated it smelled delicious. I proceed to eat the corn potatoes and sausage and maybe 3 shrimp , but the taste of garlic and lighter fluid wouldn't let me be great. So instead I ate the warm soft jalapeno cornbread, And I don't care for corn bread. Overall he enjoyed his meal , but next time I will just order regular mild or garlic .
