On Saturday, September 29th 2018 my wife and I decided to try this location for dinner. We have been to the other location because of its proximity to our home. When we arrived we were placed on the waiting list which was cool it was a thirty minute wait but we only waited for twenty minutes. This was all fine for us but the difficulty came with Service. If we had know it was self serve we would have not stayed. We got our food and the garlic noodle tasted off and just was not as appetizing. Second we had to get up to retrieve water which intruded the enjoyment of our meal. The seating was cramped and we felt too close to other patrons. The options for drinks was rather expensive and limited. Overall our experience was not the best at this location. We still love the food but the atmosphere at the South Loop was not one for us read more

No effing way. The highball, unavailable up North, is an exceedingly fizzy water-based drink with a hint of alcohol. Juuuuuust a hint, in case that's what you wanted. Luckily, the limeade, a standout drink, is still the same. Ah, the taste of familiarity. The food is the same, and big bags of so-good seafood and tasty calamari provide a savory feast are at the South Loop location as well. The decor is unique, the space big, the TVs more plentiful. But so much is wrong here. I don't mind going up to the register to order and pay, but you can't stand at the bar, because that is table space for other patrons. So you'll be ordering a drink...while in the middle of another party chowing down on their food. Awwwwwkward. A lot of people will love this, because they don't have to go north and deal with all that entails, but if you want a great, laid-back LowCountry experience, go north. I will note that there wasn't a server. There were workers who brought out your food and would bus the table but you went up to a counter to place your order, and you had to get your utensils, napkins, gloves, and everything from a concession counter. There was a water cooler where you got your own (super small) cup of water, and if you wanted alcohol you had to go up to the "bar" and order that yourself as well, separate from where you place your food order. I did see quite a few guests get confused trying to find this location...not sure why but that doesn't affect this review. My friend and I were here around 6pm on a Saturday. It was surprisingly empty. The host told us we could sit wherever we wanted, gave us a menu and explained how to order. You go up to the cashier to place your order and you'll get a number to put at your table so the food can be brought out to you. There is a bar in the back of the restaurant too. There are a couple tables back there right in front of the bar if you want to have super easy access to the alcohol. My friend and I ordered the 2 person combo, added cajun fries, and I upgraded my drink to the housemade strawberry effervescent water(extra $2). We went with the everythang sauce(garlic, cajun, lemon-pepper) and hot for the heat. The sauce is literally everything! The heat was just a little kick...enough to make my nose run. The combo came with a side of cornbread which was really moist and had pieces of corn and jalapeno in it. I'm glad we ordered the cajun fries too...you can never go wrong with these. They provide bibs which is necessary when eating this kind of food. There are sinks too. The whole place is really cute! It got super busy by the time we finished eating and rightly so. You place your order at the counter, a server brings your order to your table, they still cut your bag open for you, just like the Lakeview....... that's it, that's all. You eat and if you have any leftovers, you wrap your own food. I miss the person that takes your order, comes back about 5 minutes after your food arrives and ask "How is everything?" The South Loop location has combo deals, which I wish the Lakeview location offered, but I can't have it all, I know, I know, I can't have a waitress, a sever and combo deals. Overall this place is a good place to go to get a crab boil. If you go get the boil only, personally I wasn't a fan of their drinks, or sides. Also, I wouldn't get the sausage in my boil again, it didn't taste great like the other options, I.E. crab, lobster, shrimp, etc. I would get potatoes and corn and your favorite proteins and no higher than hot or mild, because the spice is very spicy. I like the hot but i love spice so it was great. I couldn't imagine how hot the other two higher heat options would be, i think it would take away from the enjoyment of the food. Also, they need to make some updates to the menu, it really isn't a good quality to reflect the business and isn't very clear. I would suggest that they revamp the menu, and add some broccoli to their boil to get some more green vegetables in there. I would suggest that they have some greens or a great simple salad on their menu, i always want some greens for my nutrition especially when eating out. Be prepared to part with your money since the cost isn't cheap but the food taste is good enough. Pros: very good tasting seafood options and boil flavor! My brother ordered crab legs, corn bread, and green beans and his sauces were more hot and Cajun style! I tried a little bit of his and it was too spicy for me!! Was here on a Friday around 7:30PM and was seated immediately. Being that it was our first time, we needed some instruction on how things worked at Lowcountry. After ordering our food, we got drinks and within 10 minutes or less we had our food that was piping hot. I saw on Yelp the Crawfish was especially good, so we ordered that with snow crab. We had to ask a server to instruct us how to eat the crawfish and right away he assisted us so we didn't look silly trying to eat our meal. I've been to this location several times. One of my favorite steam bag seafood restaurants. Table tops and bar available to dine. My wait time was limited to 5 mins or less on all my visits. Bar drinks are pretty good. I enjoy bourbon and often will order ole fashions. They have a nice selection of top shelf tequila. This last trip I decided to partake in my own custom tequila flight. Lol. Good news is that I made it safely to my sleeping quarters. The last trip I ordered 2lbs of the crab legs, jalapeño cornbread and fries. The cornbread has always been my favorite. TIP: If you sit at the bar, the bartender will take your food and drink order. If you sit at the table top, you will need to go up to the counter and place your food and drink order. I had shrimp headoff with potatoes, corn, and broccoli with level 2 heat cooked in Cajun sauce. It was superb. The heat even for level 2 had some kick to it, but was not overwhelming. The potatoes were a good size and soft in texture. The broccoli was cooked well and the corn was good too. The shrimp of course is the main item and they were both delicious and plentiful. The price tag is hefty, but you get so much food that I guarantee you will get your money's worth. I had a piña colada as my alcoholic beverage of choice. Underwhelmed is an understatement. Although we sat at the bar and the bartender took care of us by taking 30% off our bill (even though he was cool and and apologized because it was not his fault, so thank you for that), the food, the hosts who seat and greet, and the guy who brought out our food could really use some training. Here's why: - The male host was dismissive. He was dismissive when he seated us as well when we called him over about our uncooked appetizers. -Both he and the female host didn't say one word when we left. No, "thank you for coming" or "I hope you enjoyed your food." They were too engrossed in their own convo in the front of the house. - Our appetizers looked as if they were fried in .00076 seconds. They weren't even golden brown. In NO WAY are you to serve undercooked fried green tomatoes or calamari. -We asked for the waiter to replace the green tomatoes. They weren't any different than the first batch, so they just sat there. We didn't even bother with the calamari at that point. -There were NO potatoes or corn on the cobb in my order although they were included in the menu option. When I asked for what was supposed to be in the order in the first place, I received literally over a half dozen of red potatoes and a half dozen pieces of corn on the cobb. I'm not exaggerating. A total waste of food as I couldn't eat all of that, nor did I ask for that much. -I even brought that up and the waiter just stood there with a blank look on his face. -You really don't know how much you're spending until you receive the bill. Our bill was over 170.00 bucks (ended up being $40 bucks less after the discount) for a meal we did not enjoy. The way everything's listed on the menu, it's not clear that what you add will be at additional cost. It was an extra $47 bucks for king crab. The additional price was not on the menu, so that was a little shock to me. I think maybe the lackadaisical atmosphere may stem from the type of customers the get on the weekends (I've heard stories), but that still is not a valid excuse for our experience. It's unfortunate that I have to add another restaurant to my list of "what not to visit." read more
