My first appointment on 01/23/19 will undoubtedly be my last. While the office has a nice comfortable vibe, the actual practice of the office could not be any more substandard. I booked my appointment with Dr. Lowe through the Delta Dental website, as she was a local provider. I wish I would've reviewed the Yelp page prior to confirming my appointment. My research was anything but extensive. Upon Googling her name and practice, I was informed that she was a Veteran of the US Air Force. As a Veteran myself, this was all I needed to feel comfortable confirming my appointment. I showed up to my appointment approximately 30 minutes early, arriving at 1:30 for a 2:00 appointment. I was not taken back to the chair until approximately 2:35. What is the point of an appointment if it is not kept? The fish in the waiting room were nice, though. Upon Dr. Lowe's initial review of my teeth, it was a sales pitch from there on. I needed a laser treatment, I needed a fancy toothbrush, I needed to gargle Holy Water from Jesus himself. I was informed that I did not floss or brush correctly, which I have never been told before. I floss after every meal and brush twice a day. I'm not saying my teeth are perfect, but I know I do enough to at least maintain decent oral health. However, they made me feel as if my teeth looked like Keep in mind, I was merely there for a check-up and cleaning. I was informed that I needed to pay my co-pay before they would initiate the cleaning. Co-pay? I have never paid a co-payment for a cleaning and my insurance is middle to upper tier. It is my fault for not questioning the $100.00 "co-pay", but I needed a cleaning and figured that I would deal with it after the fact. Apparently, this $100.00 was for an 11-minute laser treatment. Anthem Blue-Cross Blue Shield confirmed that there should be no co-pay for a routine check-up and cleaning. This is a warning because they will bring in multiple papers having you sign them, going as far as insisting it is a co-pay and the insurance will not cover 100% of the cleaning. Completely dishonest sales tactics. I'll take the fault for this, as I should've halted service to review. There are just very few businesses left with actual ethics or morals. The cleaning itself was without doubt one of the worst I have ever been through. I'm sure the hygienist was thorough as she is a professional in her field, but I couldn't tell if they were flossing with floss or barbed wire. See attached picture for my gums post-cleaning. With no exaggerations, my mouth was sore until the next day from a simple routine cleaning. I inquired about a quote to fix a chipped tooth and was given a quote of $316. I understand that dental work is not cheap, but $316 seemed to be a little inflated for a simple resin job. On my way home I stopped at another Dentist for a second opinion, who thought I was joking after informing her that had I just gotten a cleaning. Boom a quote for my chipped tooth, $56. Hopefully, they clean up their act. It is not cool to pressure people into spending their hard-earned money on services in which they do not understand, nor consent to. Which I'm sure their idea of consent is one of the signatures they force upon you. I was literally told the $100 was for my insurance co-pay, that my insurance would not be covering the whole cost of my cleaning. Ridiculous. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, as well as issued a complaint with my financial institution over the $100 "co-pay". Sad I even have to ask for a refund.

After I received my Explanation of Benefits from my insurance, I noticed several issues and called the insurance company to verify. They confirmed that my concerns were valid. The main issue was that my secondary insurance had been billed as the primary insurance. Delta confirmed they had no record of my primary insurance on file, only a note stating that I had another insurance plan. I worked with a Delta representative, and they explained that everything would need to be resubmitted either by the dental office or through a claim filed by me. When I brought this to the office staff's attention, I was not looking for an argument. I was simply trying to point out the issue so they could review it and correct the billing. Unfortunately, the staff became defensive and rude. That experience is what ultimately caused me to lose trust in the office after being a patient there for five years. To be clear, this review is not about the doctor's performance. My concern is strictly with the billing process and the way the office staff handled the situation. A billing mistake can happen, but how it is addressed matters. Patients should feel heard and respected when they bring forward legitimate concerns.

She took the time to listen, explained procedures thoroughly, and ensured that I felt confident and at ease. Since it was my first visit, they did X-rays too. I was told the visit would be $25. I thought I'd be there for an hour. I was there for 2 hours and 15 min. They really should tell you that the first visit is going to be this long so people can plan accordingly. They told me to arrive 15 minutes before my appointment, but I waited a half hour before I left the waiting room. I had already filled out the paperwork online, so there was no need for me to be there so early. The dentist was pleasant and thorough . She did my exam and reviewed the procedures she recommended. Then, the insurance girl came in to talk about what my insurance covers. I told her all I wanted today was the cleaning. For some reason that price was now $75 instead of the $25 they told me it would be when I first arrived. I paid the $75. Finally, the hygienist came in to clean my teeth. She was very friendly and she did a great job cleaning my teeth. On my way out, I noticed they had a sign in the window that said a cleaning, exam, and x-rays was $59 for new patients. I'm not sure why I was charged $75, even with my insurance, if they're only charging other new clients $59. Overall, the medical professionals at this office were professional and competent. The wait time and total visit time took too long. And I feel like I overpaid considering they charged me more with insurance, than they do people without.

The dental hygienist and dentist I saw at Radiant Smiles were incredibly rude and dismissive during my visit. I was told I needed a deep cleaning that would cost around $500 just to clean half of my mouth. They also told me I had two small cavities that needed fillings and warned me that my teeth could eventually fall out if I didn't address the issues. Because of how serious they made it sound, I went ahead and had the fillings done. After my visit at Radiant Smiles, something didn't sit right with me, so when I traveled home I scheduled an appointment with my regular dentist for a second opinion. My regular dentist performed a full exam including X-rays, a full cleaning, fluoride treatment, and prescribed toothpaste. After reviewing everything, they told me that I did not need a deep cleaning and that the cavities I had been told I had were not actually present and the fillings were unnecessary. Another concerning issue was that Radiant Smiles didn't even attempt to run my insurance and instead presented everything as out-of-pocket costs. I also explained on my intake paperwork and verbally that I have an autoimmune disease and that my gums were swollen because of that. Despite this, they dismissed what I told them and insisted I needed antibiotics for my gums. My regular dentist confirmed that antibiotics were not necessary. Overall, the experience felt very fear-based and untrustworthy. I left feeling pressured into procedures that were not necessary and uncomfortable with how my concerns were handled. After comparing the care I received with my long-time dentist, the difference was night and day. If you value honest dental care and transparency, I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to treatment at Radiant Smiles.
