We popped in here on a weekday after having a nice local birthday dinner - had no idea what to expect. Luckily, if you've been to your average bowling alley its about the same! Super friendly staff showed us around, including the very cool Goonies tribute/display (one scene in the movie was filmed inside!) Lots of people playing, having a great time but there were a couple lanes open. We got our shoes, picked out a couple balls and started rollin! Wife had a beer, I had a coke. Prices were extremely reasonable. Cool graphics on the automatic scoring screens. And FANTASTIC local artwork murals all around. Definitely coming back! Went bowling here and despite them being busy the customer service was great. We got set up quickly with the last lane, which was my lucky number 3. They also gave us a pitcher of water and cups that we could have on the ledge behind our lane which made it easy to keep hydrated. We had a couple issues because a pin moved over and the person working was very helpful and fast about getting it fixed. Will definitely be back to bowl again. read more

I Never will forget this place! Time machines supposedly don't exist but there is something super incredulous going on with this structure. You would drive by this building without a second thought. You would walk down the street and walk straight past the entrance and store front without a second glance. But, this is a magical place. Enter the front door and you are warped to a different era. The inside is small and dated at first glance. Something magical happens here. You play a game for a few bucks. The bells and whistles aren't the fancy technological features in the modern bowling allies today...rather the feeling of family you will get. Simple bowling and family fun from another era. The owner is super nice. Head to the back corner and sign Chunk ' s guest book. You can put a dot on the map o indicate where you are from and you will see all the other dots from everywhere. My favorite bowling alley! We go here every time we take a trip to Astoria, which is usually a few times a year. Unlike the pretentious, overpriced bowling alleys in Portland, LC Bowl is a simple and classic bowling alley like the ones I grew up with in the Midwest. Beers on tap and in cans. Families and couples having fun. And it's just around the corner from Buoy Brewery! On my last visit, we happened to catch the Cosmic Bowl that goes from 9pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday. $14 for unlimited bowling... that's $28 for 2 people to bowl for a few hours! We had purchased a Groupon deal for Lower Columbia Bowl before we arrived. Two games of bowling with shoe rental and a pitcher of beer or soda for $16. We thought it was well worth the price. They also sell food, drinks and light snacks. The bowling alley has some history behind it, featured in the 1985 film, The Goonies. It also used to be a former car dealership before the bowling alley took over in the mid-'50s​. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time to the 1980's/90's. The lady managing the counter was very friendly and helpful. She was still getting used to the Groupon coupons but we managed to redeem​ our deal. Just your typical fun afternoon hangout bowling alley. The one downside was that the smallest ball was 8 pounds and it was hard for my 8 year old sister to bowl, they also didn't have any kid ramps for the balls to roll down. I love coming here. I don't like posting bad reviews. Today the hired help was rude so rude. I asked for our pitcher of soda and she threw her hands up screaming "everbody wants something at once". Then as she was filling the water she said " I can see how perched you are just standing there" She proceeded to yell at the kids and tell them to use the lids for their drinks. I then asked for more cups and lids and her response was "for what" See Im only 4'11 and my parents had told her theirs kids were coming.... It wasn't until I told her that I had worked 30 hours in the last 2 days and was vary pearched (Im also diabetic) Im also here on my 1 hour break on my double. I have never come so close to fist-fighting a woman as I just did at Lower Columbia Bowl. I can handle outdated aesthetics, and I can deal with a lopsided assist ramp that dumps my son's bowling balls into the gutter no matter how well we line it up, but I will never again put myself in a position where I have to interact with the lady who runs the counter at this place. Her face could take the rust off a bumper, and her attitude is ten times worse. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever again. I hate her. read more

Huh? I have no idea what the negative reviews are all about! Super clean and super nice people. We had a blast with our kids here on vaca in Astoria, so much so we returned the next night. The woman at the counter even told us about coupons to save some money and told us we could print them at the library. They even had cute socks for sale when we showed up in flip flops and were super patient with our crazy 5yo son. Love this place! Looking forward to visiting again on our next trip! read more

Really weird bowling alley. We were assigned to lane 3, which was uneven and very slippery. Extremely hard to bowl.

I first must say that I was there solely on a Goonies expedition. After having seen the place, I really want to go back and enjoy the bowling. The place looks like it did (I assume) in the 1980's, which is pretty fantastic. The staff was very nice to let us just come in and look around Chunk's area. Friends and I have gone here a couple other times, and each time I go I am more disappointed. The lady that runs the counter is not friendly, nor does she try to be. The thing that REALLY upset me was what happened the other night. We had a group of 15 people, and a two year old. Earlier in the night, I had asked if they had shoes and a bowling ball for a little kid, and the lady replied "Not his size". Not even an hour later, she saw that he was sharing a ball with his dad, and said he had to bowl on his own. She then brought out little shoes for him. I honestly have no intention on coming back here again, though my friends will probably make me. If I could give this place HALF a star, I would. read more

Bowling has gotten very expensive over time. When I was a kid everybody bowled and it was very affordable for the average family. Columbia Bowl has $2 per game and $2 beers on Monday nights. The place is clean, and the lanes are well maintained. My spot stays consistent through the night and I am told it's because they switched to synthetic lanes 3 years ago. Maybe that's not very unusual, I don't know, but my throw never stayed the same on the old wood lanes. read more

All I can say if you want a good time with no hiccups don't go here. I went here, really excited to have a good time, paid for me and my friends to attend cosmic bowl only to be disrespected by the older woman with long brown hair and glasses. 1st she spilled beer down my friends back. Then I asked her for another lane and she asked me, "what for?". She REFUSED to give it to me even though the place was EMPTY. I said the 2nd group would like their own lane. She said "we don't do that". I was naturally confused and I told my brother who was with me and he went to clarify and asked, "so would we have to leave and come back and pay again in order to get another lane", and she told him that would be pointless since there's only 45 minutes left. He said but with time aside? Is that what we would have to do? ........ your guesses it. The answer was , "we couldn't do that even then". This lady is obviously in some power trip for whatever reason but all I know is that I will certainly not refer nor return to this place. Also this building hasn't had the carpets cleaned since I was 8 years old and I am now 25. There needs to be an update with some of the technology. They were not able to accommodate one of our friends with bumpers who had arthritis with out making her bowl alone. You can do this elsewhere. Apparently the bumpers won't be able to handle the rest of us so she would be in her own lane... that we weren't allowed to have. read more

My family and I came here on a Friday afternoon. Nobody in line in front of us. 5 minutes pass and the two ladies behind the counter are still trying to figure out how to run the machine before we get a hello. 7 people in my party. After our shoes are done we go to the lane. My daughter wanted to use the 6 lb ball. It gets stuck every frame. Their lecture to my daughter when she complained of it being stuck often was that it was a known issue and she should have gotten a heavier ball. I wouldn't give this run down place another shot if you paid me. Go to Seaside if you want to bowl. 15 minutes is the difference between a good time and not. I hate this place and it will never see me again. read more
