What an unforgettable trip! We had a wonderful stay at the Bowline Hotel. It ended up being the perfect family vacation, and we loved that we could bring our dog along for a small additional fee. It's surprisingly hard to find hotels that are this pet-friendly, so that was a huge plus! The building itself is beautiful, but the real highlight is booking a room facing the river. Waking up to views of the Astoria Bridge from your private patio with a cup of coffee was luxurious! We could even hear the sea lions in the distance, which made the whole experience feel peaceful and so unique. The outdoor saunas were an amazing touch and the heated floors throughout the room, made our stay extra cozy, especially if you're visiting during Oregon's colder months! They've got you covered. Within walking distance to so many restaurants and downtown Astoria, if you're planning a trip here, I can't recommend the Bowline Hotel enough. We were stuck in the area due to an illness and working with insurance to get us home for a week. They were exceptionally accommodating when we needed to keep adding on extra days. The location is beautiful and very easy to walk to most of town, which is eclectic and fun. The hospital is walkable from there, 20 min. Don't count on taxis. There's a trolley that stops close to the parking lot of the hotel. Our room was on the trolley side and it was not bothersome to us, and of course doesrun at night. They have a restaurant called The Knot. We didn't try any of their food, but I did have the tomatoes bisque soup 2x. It was delicious. The beds are super marshmallow soft. You are swallowed up initially when you get in. If you have trouble with a super soft bed -beware. Nice esthetics. Hand crafted tea assortment and sea salt for a soak. We stayed in Astoria Bowline hotel which is located right on the wharf it is a small hotel as you walk in there is a bar on the right side and in the right side center is the front desk and the left side is a lounge that serves meals and cocktails. They have an outside lanai area for dinning also. The room was located on the ground floor, the room was on the larger size with a balcony and side room. The bathroom was spacious with a walk in shower and a foldable seat in the shower. You can either valet park for $15.00 or park your car on the street for free which there were lots of parking around the valet parking lot. Valet parking is worth it. if you don't get it, you have to find a parking space on the street. Very walkable to the whole town. Once the car was parked in the lot, we never moved it. Super easy check in, friendly nice people. Well managed. Free welcome champagne. Historical photos on the walls in the hallways were really cool to look at. The room was huge! And the river view was gorgeous with a small patio. The cement floors are jarringly hard and very cold. Would've liked more rugs. The huge in-room bathtub was nice, robe and slippers a bonus. Bathroom shower a little anemic with non adjustable shower head. Shampoo, body lotion, conditioner, hand soap, bath, salts, all smelled fantastic, and made me google the makers. The bedside tables were tiny, and there were not enough plugs for me to plug in my phone between the lamp being plugged in and the sound machine... which was excellent-- I need to get one! Walls a bit thin. Could hear the TV on other side of the wall and a guy talking very loud. I used the provided earplugs for that. Big issue: I have significant back issues and found the bed incredibly uncomfortable and way too soft. We kept rolling to the center and it was a king. Pillows-- need a variety of thick and thin. Coffee and tea in the room with the electric kettle was really nice. The pour over coffee bags worked far better than we expected. Having a fridge with a freezer on top was an unexpected bonus-- we found a little store and picked up our own yogurt and some fruit to store in the fridge for breakfast one morning and it worked great. The looseleaf teas in the little vials was pretty cool. Note to visitors that the fourth glass vial is brown sugar cubes. Honestly, it was all about the view.. watching pilot boats and huge vessels come and go had us download a nautical app to see what they were and where they'd been. On our last day we spotted seals! Bring binoculars! Saunas were great! If you're a light sleeper or need complete darkness you might not like this place. It's essentially on a dock and the thumping of the waves hitting supports can be pretty loud and shake the rooms. And the curtains are tall and don't completely close. because of the bed, and the price, I'm not sure we will be back. But it was an interesting stay. read more

The Bowline Hotel is a true masterpiece of coastal hospitality and it provided the most incredible weekend getaway we could have imagined. While we were already excited based on the photos online, the reality of the experience surpassed every expectation from the moment we arrived. As soon as we stepped out of the car, we were greeted by the iconic sound of sea lions barking below the pier which immediately set a perfect maritime tone for our stay. The service began with a level of care that was truly impressive. The staff valeted our car and even ensured it was fully charged while parked, which was such a thoughtful and convenient touch. Heidi handled our check in with such warmth and professionalism that we felt like honored guests right away. We were delighted to be upgraded to a suite and the accommodations were stunning. One of the highlights was having the sauna pods right outside our door on the pier. It was an invigorating and peaceful experience that made the stay feel like a luxury retreat. The atmosphere at night is absolutely magical. Watching the cargo barges drift by while they are fully lit up is a beautiful sight and the historical trolley runs right outside the hotel for easy exploration. The location is perfectly placed within walking distance to a variety of excellent restaurants, coffee shops, and local activities. We really wanted to love the Bowline Hotel, but unfortunately our stay was a big disappointment. First, the beds were awful--far too soft, and both of us rolled into the center all night, which made it impossible to sleep comfortably. For a hotel at this price point, I expected much better quality. There's also no closet in the room, which felt very impractical for travelers who want to unpack or hang anything. The biggest frustration was the lack of air conditioning. Instead, we were handed a big industrial box fan--still in its packaging--that we had to unbox and set up ourselves. It felt really unprofessional and not at all in line with the kind of hospitality we expected. Finally, at checkout, the front desk interaction left a bad taste. When asked how our stay was, I shared my honest disappointment about the bed, and the older woman working at the desk gave us attitude in return. Rather than feeling heard, it came across as dismissive and unwelcoming. Astoria is such a wonderful town, and the Bowline has potential, but for the price and reputation, the basics--like a comfortable bed, AC, and genuine hospitality--should be standard. read more

The bar is cozy and has creative cocktail options as well as fun wine selections and the bartenders were super engaging. I had no noise issues. I've been to several hotels in Astoria and this is by far my favorite. The service was excellent. The room was great. We found the beds very comfortable. You can NOT beat the view. We didn't find it noisy at all but we were farther away from the lobby, I would probably not stay in room 1 or 2. They are practically in the lobby. The location could absolutely not be better. The room we were in had a balcony that was basically on a pier over the water. The Sea Lions were everything, but if you don't like nature, you will not like this place. The decor was exactly what you want from a boutique hotel, not pretentious, but details were paid attention to. The staff were friendly and happy to accommodate ground floor needs. The parking is street or valet only, but there was plenty of street parking within a block on a Thursday evening. For those with disabilities that prevent walking the valet lane is right by the front door with a ramp at either end of the walkway. The floors in the hotel and wide and flat for straight shots to the room. They had both a ceiling fan and a rotating fan in every room, a gas fireplace controlled by the thermostat. A balcony door and two windows that are easy to open. Mini fridges in the room can hold more than usually found in a hotel room. Electric kettle in the room with three tea options and coffee bags. Water carafe and water glasses. Book selection in every room was on point =) The downsides, which are only things to be aware of if you have physical issues. All furniture is lower, so if you have trouble with knees or back, that's could be an issue. The bed is super soft, a debate for the ages. We just happen to be people with back problems that do better on firm and both woke up with neck issues. Overall, the hotel was wonderful and I would stay there again, just be a little better prepared for the furniture. read more

Bowline is one of my very favorite hotel stays. Ever. We visited Astoria for a quick trip last fall. We looked at a couple different waterside lodging options, but everything just paled in comparison to Bowline. We stayed in the ice house, and if you can swing it, as much as I hate to share, it was definitely the best spot! We were on the top floor so it was the most private and had the best view, in my opinion, of anywhere you could stay in the hotel. No matter what, though, spend the extra for a river view room. While the decor is gorgeous and any suite will be comfortable, don't forget that's the real draw. From our room with its massive windows, it really felt like we were just sitting right on top of the Columbia (which you kind of are). It was such a calming joy to just lay in bed and stare out at the lapping water, watching giant ships as they floated by. You can even view the river from the lovely bathtub. We also got to watch sea lions swim about, poking their heads above the water and just generally being adorable. Be forewarned, they are loud, but they are sharing their home with us! Bowline provides ear plugs, but I never travel without my white noise machine, and I am a very light sleeper. I slept fine with the machine on. We did not eat at the restaurant, but we did get bread pudding delivered to our room one night and it was a solid 4 stars. They have indoor and outdoor (with a fire pit!) seating for the restaurant, so if you're curious about staying at the hotel, it's a fine way to dip your toes in and see how you like the setting. Service was stellar from check in (complimentary wine!) to check out and everything in between. They have two steam saunas and provide robes and slippers in your room so you can comfortably venture to them. I did not realize how much we'd enjoy this but we ended up taking advantage of them three times during our fairly short stay. The saunas have large bubbles on the river facing end so you even get to enjoy the beautiful view from inside! Astoria is one of the cutest little towns, and you can't really go wrong just wandering downtown and seeing what strikes your fancy. The Bowline is in a perfect walkable location, in fact the only negative I can give is that due to their enviable spot right along the river walkway, parking is extremely limited. Our visit was not at the busiest of times and we had to park further down the road. Let's put a positive spin on it, though, and just say you have easy access to all the goodness Astoria has to offer. For dinner I highly recommend Busu, for snacks, check out Frite & Scoop, and for shopping, Short Wave and the Sunday Farmer's Market. Don't miss exploring batteries and the Wreck of the Peter Iredale in Fort Steven's State Park, and honestly, take a little drive across the glorious Astoria-Megler bridge to Washington's Cape Disappointment, too! read more

I think that this hotel is better suited for colder months. There is no AC. They include a small fan in the room but that can only help so much in warmer months. There are ear plugs and white noise machines in the rooms for drowning out sea lion noises though that was not an issue while we were here. The beds were outfitted with very nice sheets and were very comfortable to me however some people may not find them comfortable due to the fact that the mattress is very soft. For the price I would expect better. read more

If you were planning to stay here, be sure to check whether the sea lions are around - because if they are, prepare for a sleepless night. they gather beneath the hotel and bark nonstop through the night. Earplugs and white noise helped a bit, but I felt terrible for my poor pups who couldn't get any rest. Honestly, I should've asked for a refund and left after the first night, but I stuck it out for two. I won't be returning. I was looking for a lite lunch and didn't want the typical Sunday Astoria theme. I randomly drove to the end of the road and in front of me was a cool looking little scene of tables, patio chairs, and the Columbia River. And there was an upfront ADA spot AND they allowed dogs AND it wasn't loud. The staff were super nice and recommended that I try the salmon chowder and they had a few mushroom tarts left. Not your grandmas chowder. More a lite curry broth, potatoes, greens, and salmon. Both were great. The seals barking had my dog amused too. I did not stay at the hotel, but will be back! read more

We decided to get away for a long weekend and chose Astoria as our destination. This hotel looked amazing with the views of the Columbia and the modern looking rooms. The rooms were nice looking. There isn't much insulation, you can hear everything/everyone in the hallway and the people in the rooms next to you. The bed was too soft and I felt like I sank to the floor when I layed down. We had gnats in our room that were coming out of the sink drain. We told the front desk we didn't need housekeeping but the message was not passed along. There is no parking for the hotel. You have to find street parking or pay for valet. The view from the outside dining area was beautiful and their drinks and appetizers were good. The waitstaff was friendly as well. Would we stay here again? No, a bit too overpriced for what you get. read more

We decided to stop driving when we reached Astoria. We found that they had vacancy while we were on the road. Thankfully, they did because I just adore this hotel. We arrived shortly after 10pm. We had the BEST TIME and will return for sure as we didn't have time to enjoy the Saunas on the deck. We loved the common area and the (slight) privacy of our deck alike. The vibe was just super chill and we can't wait to visit their other properties. Loved the minimalist décor, functional and adorable. The bed sat super low but was sooooo comfy, the pillows were amazing. I know it seems that there are more Cons than Pros, but I'm just trying to be detailed LOL! Stay here, you won't regret it! CONS -Parking is horrid, we were not offered Valet or we would have gladly taken it -Very limited menu (but sooo good) -We had A LOT of dog hair in our room...on the headboard and the floor, I have a fur baby so while I wasn't super happy about it, it was not enough to ruin the stay or take away a star, when you're pet friendly it comes with the territory. -Noisy, when I saw earplugs on our nightstands I was instantly concerned about how loud it would get. Roll up a towel and place at the bottom of your door (do this at all hotels IMO) and it helps. The Husband sleeps through everything, me...not so much. There was a fairly constant "banging" noise, it was the waves hitting the pylons holding up the building, once I realized what it was I went right to sleep without the earplugs. I mean, you're on a dock with moving water beneath you, the people complaining about that should apply a bit of common sense IMO -With the view came one startling issue, 1:30am the building shook a bit and outside the window were massive bright lights. We jumped up and ran to the deck, a tug/tender swung in about 30 feet from the deck did a quick loop and ran up next to the biggest cargo ship I've ever seen. The shaking didn't last long and we laughed our a$$es off but for a hot second I was sure this was going to be my demise! LOL! It was not a deal breaker and added a wonderful story from our trip. We decided to splurge a bit and book a nicer room here and when we got there they offered us a upgrade to their suite for an extra $50- we are so happy we did this! Most beautiful room with private balcony, huge bath and fireplace. The staff were incredible and the location was perfect. Could not recommend this enough! Only issue I could see for someone is the loud seals if you're a light sleeper, but they also provide ear plugs for this too, and wasn't a problem for us So impressed! read more

The Bowline Hotel turned out to be a surprising find. It had an excellent fully stocked bar, food was limited but exceptional. The ambiance of being on the water and having close access to downtown was why we made this selection in the first place. We only stayed a night, but wished our travel plans would have allowed us to stay another day or two. We had an excellent room rate, very close to the posted rates of the Holiday Inn Express, and less than the Hampton Inn. We are already planning our next trip to Astoria, OR. read more

We ended up at the Bowline Hotel after a poor experience at a motel nearby, and boy did we wish we'd found this place first! Heidi, the host and bartender, was amazing! We ended up upgrading our room once we arrived, and when we got to our room we were blown away by the cleanliness, comfort and attention to detail. Everything about the is place was spectacular. There were thoughtful, tasteful details everywhere in my large room, like elegant scoops for fine coffee, a svelte but large fridge, deep blue floor-to-ceiling velvet curtaining, Grown Alchemist toiletries, and a copy of the book Astoria. (I didn't buy it then, but have since started reading it!) The Columbia river, right outside, was more compelling and magnificent than even the Oregon coast: I saw breathtaking double rainbows, container ships, sunset and sunrise through my large windows. I fell in love with the town, which reminded me of my native N.Y.C. The chatter from the restauarant was loud but it stopped at a reasonable hour. I can't wait to come back. read more

We were in the ice house suite & every detail in the space was perfect: excellent coffee & tea in suite, a beautiful soaking tub AND walk in shower for two, a huge & very comfortable bed, a main room (with a fireplace & books) that looks out over the water. I didn't take any photos bc I was too busy drinking cocktails while listening to sea lions, soaking in the tub & drinking coffee by the water. I have wanted to visit since Bowline opened (as I'm already a big fan of Adrift in Long Beach) & was still blown away by how nice the stay was. Most importantly of all, my dogs loved it. read more
